Speaker:

Welcome back to another edition

of the daily Bible podcast.

2

:

Today is Friday, June 21st, 2024.

3

:

And today we're looking at

three chapters, only three.

4

:

I should be done in less than 20 minutes.

5

:

God willing.

6

:

We're looking at first Kings

chapter 10 and 11 and second

7

:

Chronicles, chapter nine.

8

:

I'm still missing.

9

:

Pastor PJ nothing's changed.

10

:

My heart will go on.

11

:

Thank you.

12

:

Celine Dion.

13

:

I do still miss him.

14

:

But we're going to carry on.

15

:

Thanks for joining me.

16

:

Let's jump into first Kings chapter 10.

17

:

Okay.

18

:

We have the introduction

of a new character.

19

:

Her name is the queen of Sheba.

20

:

Next we don't know her name.

21

:

That's her title.

22

:

She comes from a modern day.

23

:

Yemen.

24

:

That's our best guess.

25

:

And she comes with a large entourage.

26

:

And she comes with hard questions

to test king Solomon and much to

27

:

his credit king Solomon does it

greatly, she's responsive to it.

28

:

She starts singing that song by Berlin.

29

:

Because there's no more breath in her.

30

:

And she says, man, blessed be the God.

31

:

Uh, the Lord, your God,

this is incredible.

32

:

Um, I'm impressed by your, your wealth.

33

:

I'm impressed by your wisdom.

34

:

This is incredible.

35

:

This is good.

36

:

And so she establishes a political

and trade relationship with him.

37

:

She gives him 120 talents of gold.

38

:

Which is about 9,000 pounds.

39

:

Give or take 9,000 pounds of gold.

40

:

That's a lot of gold.

41

:

Um, not that he means it.

42

:

King Solomon has plenty of gold.

43

:

Which is actually kind

of the problem here.

44

:

In fact, If you scoot on down to

verse 14 in chapter 10, it says

45

:

here Solomon's great wealth.

46

:

Now Solomon's great wealth.

47

:

On the, on the outside can

actually look quite good.

48

:

But wealth turns out to not be

a great thing here because it.

49

:

Superficially showcases success.

50

:

But the underlying truth here is that

they're struggling with spiritual decay.

51

:

But let me just show you what's going on.

52

:

Take a look.

53

:

Uh, in verses 14 through the end of

here verses:

54

:

You have Solomon's great.

55

:

A great wealth expressed in gold gold

on everything gold on the computer.

56

:

Gold on the kids' gold on the

ceiling gold on the floor.

57

:

This, this is plated in gold.

58

:

Everything is gold.

59

:

Shields are gold.

60

:

Why is a gold everything's

gold, which is great.

61

:

Right.

62

:

It sounds great, but it's ornate.

63

:

It's extravagant.

64

:

I mean, you see just

some crazy wealth here.

65

:

I don't know if you've

ever been to Beverly Hills.

66

:

Um, I have not, not often, but I

would go there every now and then my

67

:

family and I would drive by just to

kind of see what the hoodie toity.

68

:

you're doing.

69

:

And sometimes you'll see extravagant

wealth on display, you know, is

70

:

he really fancy cars or something?

71

:

You know, wearing really expensive attire.

72

:

No, no, no.

73

:

It's kind of interesting to GOC into stair

and to see like, oh, what's that like, I

74

:

wonder what I'd like to drive in that car

when it was like to wear that stuff here.

75

:

Well, Solomon has it all.

76

:

In fact, he probably is the

wealthiest man to have ever lived.

77

:

Some suggestions about his wealth,

put him in the $2 trillion range.

78

:

2000000000002.3 choices.

79

:

Some estimate estimate suggest.

80

:

That's crazy wealth.

81

:

I don't even think their wealthiest man

alive right now has that kind of wealth.

82

:

I think the most wealthy

people alive are billionaires.

83

:

Solomon looks at them and says, ha.

84

:

Trilia the buddy trillions.

85

:

So this guy is doing really well.

86

:

Right.

87

:

He excels all the Kings of the earth

and riches and wisdom verse 23 says,

88

:

and then on top of that, Uh, verse

26 says that he has a verse 26.

89

:

He has 1400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen.

90

:

So on the exterior, it looks like he's

got all these things going for him.

91

:

However, let's look at

first Kings chapter 11.

92

:

Notice here, the heading

and your ESB Bible.

93

:

Solomon turns from the Lord.

94

:

That's a bad place to start.

95

:

Isn't it.

96

:

And in fact, that's a bad finish for him.

97

:

We just finished reading.

98

:

Ecclesiastes, these.

99

:

Uh, hearing some of his reflections.

100

:

And I wonder if this is when he might

have written it when he's turned from

101

:

the Lord and as he prepares to exit or.

102

:

Exit life and exit the kingship.

103

:

If some of these things come

to the forum, but in any case,

104

:

here's what happens in chapter 11.

105

:

Notice in verse three,

the end of verse three.

106

:

Um, well, He's got 700

wives and 300 concubines.

107

:

And his wives turned away.

108

:

His heart verse four says when

Solomon was old, his wives turned

109

:

away as hard after other gods.

110

:

And his heart was not

wholly true to the Lord.

111

:

His God, this is awful.

112

:

He starts worshiping the asterisk,

the Astra Roth after red MILCOM chemo.

113

:

Shh.

114

:

Molek I mean, all the guts, he just

welcoming them all and all because

115

:

of his connection to his wives.

116

:

Which of course scripture does not commit.

117

:

He's not supposed to do this.

118

:

Let's let's also be reminded here

of Deuteronomy chapter seven.

119

:

And in fact, let me just give you

a couple texts to look at here.

120

:

I want you first to

write down in your Bible.

121

:

If you're still, if you're working

with me here, Deuteronomy chapter

122

:

seven, verses 14 through 20.

123

:

And then ju.

124

:

Excuse me, chapter 17, Deuteronomy

17, 14 through 20, and then

125

:

Deuteronomy seven one through five.

126

:

Those are two important texts because in

both of those texts, God tells Israel.

127

:

No.

128

:

Uh, well, for first of all,

for the king, he must not

129

:

acquire many horses for himself.

130

:

He shall not acquire many Ys for himself.

131

:

Nor shall he acquire for himself?

132

:

Excessive, silver and gold.

133

:

And on top of that, He should have a copy.

134

:

Of the book of the law approved

by the Levitical priests.

135

:

In other words, he was not to do these

things and to make sure that he knew this,

136

:

he was supposed to have his own copy of

the word of God so that he could follow

137

:

this closely for the rest of his life.

138

:

And Deuteronomy chapter seven.

139

:

What you find is that.

140

:

He is.

141

:

And all Israel are not supposed

to intermarry with the idolaters.

142

:

And that's precisely what Solomon does.

143

:

Consequently God responds to Solomon in

judgment by raising up three adversaries.

144

:

The first one being, Hey dad, the Edomite.

145

:

The second reason, the son of Aleida

and third, most significantly.

146

:

Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

147

:

Now Gera boldness and of knee

batch is approached by a hijab.

148

:

The Shilah night Shilah night.

149

:

It comes from Shiloh, which is, was

the religious epicenter of Israel.

150

:

You might think of Samuel

and his time of the judges.

151

:

Uh, hydro approaches, Jera Bowman says

I'm going to give you 10 shares in Israel.

152

:

And then the S I'm going

to save one, share.

153

:

For Solomon and for David,

I'm going to keep one in Judah

154

:

and you get the other 10.

155

:

The last I counted, there were 12

tribes and that's likely because either

156

:

Simeon is being included in Judah or

Benjamin, and Judah are included as one.

157

:

You'll see this later on, but notice

here, this is all in response to

158

:

Solomon's infidelity to the Lord three

adversaries in response to his infidelity.

159

:

Verse 40 Solomon saw therefore

to kill Jeroboam because

160

:

Jeroboam had this prophecy.

161

:

Uh, prophesied over him

and he's upset about this.

162

:

Finally the end of chapter 11,

you find out that Solomon's reign

163

:

concludes for after 40 years of

leadership, which is incredible.

164

:

Think about that.

165

:

You have 40 years of

leadership for one man.

166

:

Uh, in the United States, we understand

what that's like, at least partially by

167

:

only having someone in power for at most

eight years, which is still a long time.

168

:

But you have Solomon

in charge for 40 years.

169

:

That would be incredible.

170

:

Solomon had a strong

start, but a sad finish.

171

:

First Chronicles, chapter 10,

uh, I believe, sorry for a

172

:

second Chronicles, chapter nine.

173

:

Uh, it says much of the same thing.

174

:

So we're going to leave that to you

just to read by itself, but we've

175

:

covered most of the territory here.

176

:

Big takeaway for us.

177

:

King Solomon had the word of God.

178

:

He knew the word of God had his own copy.

179

:

And yet to know the word of God is not

the same thing as to do the word of God.

180

:

God blessed him greatly.

181

:

God loves Solomon.

182

:

He favored him and even still.

183

:

Solomon's heart straight from the Lord.

184

:

Sometimes we can.

185

:

Easily, let her heart

stray by not being careful.

186

:

Attentive.

187

:

Vigilant over our hearts.

188

:

It's good to have a healthy

suspicion of yourself.

189

:

It's good to say.

190

:

You know what?

191

:

I don't, I don't trust

myself to do the right thing.

192

:

I want to make sure I stay

as close to God as possible.

193

:

I think we should be careful.

194

:

To do what James says, uh, James in

the new Testament is often called the.

195

:

The Proverbs of the new Testament.

196

:

James chapter one.

197

:

Verse 22.

198

:

He says something simple, but be

doers of the word and not hearers.

199

:

Only deceiving yourselves.

200

:

For, if anyone is a hearer

of the word and not a doer.

201

:

He's like a man who

intently looks intently.

202

:

At his natural face in a mirror.

203

:

But then he forgets what it looks like.

204

:

That's essentially what he's saying.

205

:

He says in verse 25, but if.

206

:

The one who looks into the perfect law,

the law of Liberty and perseveres being

207

:

no here who forgets, but a doer who acts.

208

:

He will be blessed in his doing.

209

:

Hey.

210

:

I thank God that you're reading

the word of God with us.

211

:

I praise God that you're learning it,

that you're seeking to understand it.

212

:

But don't make the mistake of thinking

that, understanding it and even memorizing

213

:

it is the same thing as doing it.

214

:

Unless you like king Solomon lose your

way and perhaps lose the blessing of

215

:

that close relationship with the Lord.

216

:

So great job reading proud of

you guys are making it this far.

217

:

Keep going.

218

:

But again, make sure that you're

staying in the word to do the word.

219

:

That's where the ultimate blessing is.

220

:

Thanks for joining me today.

221

:

I look forward to seeing you guys

all tomorrow for another edition

222

:

of the daily Bible podcast.
