Target has begun selling THC-infused cannabis drinks at select stores in Minnesota, marking a significant step in the normalization of cannabis in mainstream retail. The move comes as Congress debates legislation that could recriminalize hemp-derived products with THC. Industry leaders view this as a positive development, arguing that more regulation, not less, is needed to ensure safety and quality standards. The article also notes that other major companies, like Home Depot and Amazon, have made policy changes to adapt to evolving marijuana laws. The mainstreaming of cannabis beverages is driven by growing consumer demand, with surveys showing that many Americans view marijuana as a healthier alternative to alcohol. Overall, the article highlights the rapid integration of cannabis into the mainstream commercial landscape.[0:1:23.06]]And now the Cannabis Boomer reviews two recent cannabis science publications.

First up is Cannabis and Tobacco Co-Use Predicts Psychosis in Clinical High Risk Cohorts by Bello and others. Here is my take. Cannabis and tobacco co-use predicts the development of psychosis in individuals at clinical high risk for psychosis. Here is what I found interesting. More frequent cannabis and tobacco co-use was associated with greater psychiatric symptom severity, including psychosis, anxiety, and depression, and increased risk of conversion to psychosis. The study used data from the North American Prodrome Longitudinal Study 2, a multi-site prospective study of individuals at clinical high risk for psychosis and healthy controls. The findings highlight the importance of addressing co-use of cannabis and tobacco in clinical high-risk populations to prevent the development of psychosis. Some methodological challenges are that The study did not examine the potential mechanisms underlying the relationship between co-use and psychosis, and the generalizability of the findings may be limited by the specific clinical high-risk population.

The next article today is A naturalistic examination of the effects of chronic and acute cannabis use on cognition and perceived symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder by Stueber et al. Here is my take. This study examined the effects of chronic and acute cannabis use on cognition and perceived symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in a naturalistic setting. Here is what I found interesting. Chronic cannabis use was associated with poorer cognitive performance, while acute cannabis use was associated with improved perceived ADHD symptoms. The study used a naturalistic observational design to assess cognitive performance and self-reported ADHD symptoms in individuals with and without ADHD, with and without chronic or acute cannabis use.The findings suggest that while chronic cannabis use may have detrimental effects on cognition, acute cannabis use may provide some relief for ADHD symptoms, highlighting the need for further research on the potential therapeutic use of cannabis for ADHD.The results are interesting but keep in mind that The study's naturalistic design limits the ability to establish causal relationships, and the reliance on self-reported ADHD symptoms and cannabis use may introduce biases.
