Part 1: Meet the investor

In today’s episode, we are speaking with Caitlin Wale, Senior Associate at Counteract. The UK-based fund was started by 3 serial entrepreneurs that invest in and supports pre-seed and seed carbon removal founders in their fight against climate change. The firm aims to use their portfolio to contribute to the removal of 5 gigatons of carbon by 2050.

I was excited to have Caitlin on the show, an incredible woman who grew up in South Africa where she started working in the mining industry as an engineer and ended up investing in and supporting early-stage climate tech founders by joining Counteract.    

Caitlin will share her extensive knowledge in a deep overview of the Carbon removal ecosystem today. You will learn the 6 different areas where natural processes and technology can accelerate carbon capture. She will also cover their carbon capture potential, and some of the existing methods, challenges, and benefits that are associated with each of them. I learned a ton and I feel each of those areas could be a deep dive episode in itself.

Then, she will cover in detail how they select and support founders and how they measure the impact that they base their investment decisions on. She will go on to highlight underdog areas in carbon removal, in which she sees exciting potential for investments and growth.

Following that, Caitlin will share her view on the important role women can play in the climate tech ecosystem and how you can be involved in the growing climate tech movement today.
