Quest Happens is: Corey Keller, Nick Jackson, Lauren Keller, and Nathan Guidry.
Welcome to Quest Happens, a slapstick noob friendly actual play Dungeons and Dragons podcast where our players search for the meaning in their lives while suffering from never ending side quests. Will they ever find their own personal main quest? Or will they be cursed to wander the lands bouncing from quest to quest?
I guess you'll have to find out in Quest Happens. Previously on Quest Happens.
Nick:My name is Nick Jackson. So my character's name is E. Louis, a level three monk. He's a dwarf.
Lauren:My name is Lauren and I'm wife to the dm. I am Esmeralda Fitzmonster and you can call me Easy if you want. I am a halfling fighter.
Nathan:My name is Nathan. My character's name is Stump. Stump is an eight foot tall Goliath.
Corey:The world Sindeo was a creation by a group of new demigods, fresh graduates from the Celestial Academy of Creation. Their assignment, build a functioning mortal realm.
Their result, an unhinged plane of chaos where physics, logic and morality all took a backseat to aesthetics and vibes. These demigods were left alone with no guidance and unwilling to wait for guidance. They took it upon themselves to spice things up.
Their lack of knowledge and understanding of creation led to chaos and major oopsies. You see, every year a new world is created to reincarnate all that have passed away.
Everyone dies and everyone is reborn and the patch notes are applied. Normally, reincarnations are randomized. New bodies, new species, new memories.
But due to a divine bug in the code, everyone was reincarnated as themselves. And furthermore, to make matters worse, everyone remembers something from their past.
Now the three of you all awaken like newborn babies, opening their eyes for the first time as your old selves in the same bodies. But something feels strange. Plain clothes, no weapons, and all the same scars and skins that belong to you.
You are reborn, the same age and same body you perished in. And you can only recall one thing. Your own death. And that you were once heroes. But it all seems cloudy now.
Slowly, as you take in your surroundings, you see what appears to be a waiting room of sorts. Long lines of humanoids waiting to speak to a representative at a desk. You see the letters DMV etched across the desk. Division of Mystical Voyages.
Nick:Okay, not what I was thinking.
Nathan:I was thinking a different thing.
Nick:Yeah.
Corey:You slowly begin to recover fragments of your memories from each life you've lived before realizing the horrible truth. As you look around, all of the people around you are your former victims.
Nick:What?
Corey:All right. Hey everyone. Welcome to the very actual first episode, Episode one of Quest Happens.
Hey, if you're joining us today and you did not listen to episode zero, the setup of the world, that's okay. It is fun to go back and listen to, but you don't necessarily need it to get into what we are doing with the world in the episode.
But it will give you a little bit of backstory. But with that being said, welcome to the very first episode.
This is Quest Happens, the D and D podcast where we actually play the game and have some fun. Today I'm joined by some awesome people. We have. Who are you again?
Nick:My name is Nick Jackson.
Lauren:Lauren Keller.
Nathan:And my name is Nathan.
Corey:Hey. That is your Quest Happens crew. And I am Corey, your dm.
Lauren:So.
Corey:So, everyone, what did you think of the setup episode?
Lauren:Questionable.
Corey:Speechless.
Lauren:So good.
Nathan:Questionable.
Nick:I felt like we were really put on the spot there.
Nathan:Some decisions were made and actually really enjoyed it.
Lauren:Things happened. Quests.
Corey:Lots of things happened.
Nick:Things were said that maybe shouldn't have been said.
Nathan:Things were brought into existence that maybe shouldn't have been brought into existence.
Corey:That is a very accurate statement.
Lauren:Not from me.
Nick:Well, that's Jeremy.
Nathan:I was about to say that. I was up and I'm thinking about Jerry. Jeremy.
Corey:Jeremy.
Nick:Did I get his name wrong last time? I thought it was Jeremy.
Nathan:Is Jerry short for Jeremy?
Nick:Jeremy?
Corey:Possibly. It depends on where you're from. I guess he.
Lauren:Whatever you want it to be.
Corey:Yeah. So, listeners, if you're wondering what the heck we're talking about, like I said, you'll find that on session zero, the episode before this one.
But like I said, you don't necessarily have to listen to it. But I don't know. Are you all ready to just, like, jump on into this world?
Lauren:Yeah.
Nathan:I mean, we left on kind of a cliffhanger a little bit.
Corey:Yeah, we did. Let's do it. All right, so after the events of last episode, this is where we will begin. You all get your bearings.
The haze in your brain begins to clear. It feels like you've slept for an eternity. You find yourselves in this waiting room of sorts.
There are about 60 people in this one large room, round open room. The building is made of some sort of steel that looks polished with a. With vaulted ceilings that lead to a centered point. High above you.
Near the peak are multiple openings that let the daylight in. And that is what lights this place up. You see three large desks on the far side of the building from where you are at.
You see something manning each desk. They are tall metallic beings with painted blue finish, each with a rune right in the center of their foreheads.
A person is at each of the desks talking to these beings. And the rest of the people here are all seated in chairs in rows, waiting. Each has a number in their hand.
And everyone here seems to have a look of confusion on their face, as if they are also seeing this place for the very first time. The only door you see is behind the desks. As if this wasn't confusing enough, each of you recognizes about a third of the room each.
And that's when it clicks. You are responsible for the deaths of everyone in this room, whether intentionally or unintentionally.
And after a few minutes of panic setting in, you hear one of the beings at the desk say, number 27. Elui. You look at your hand. You are holding number 27.
Nick:So Eloi looks up and, you know, decides to start walking toward the big metallic blue painted guy with a rune in his head.
Corey:Absolutely. Yeah. Think like Vision from Marvel.
Nick:Oh, yeah.
Corey:You know, kind of got kind of that style look, but like a metallic body.
Nathan:Yeah, I don't know. Vision. Can I get another cultural reference, please?
Corey:Silver Surfer.
Nathan:Okay, gotcha.
Corey:Just kind of that like, I guess Silver Surfer probably would be the better one, but.
Nick:But with the vision jewel in his head.
Corey:Yeah, with the vision jewel in the.
Nick:Yeah, okay. He says, I'm 27.
Corey:Oh, sweet. So it's kind of like right across the room. Pretty good walk. You know, you're gonna have to walk past some people.
So as you're making your way to the desk, it's the first desk on the far left side, you kind of scan the people that are here again, you know, a lot of them are just kind of like, what's going on? But at least a third of these people, you're like, I know their faces.
Why don't you point out one in the crowd and let us know how you were responsible for their death.
Nick:So as I'm walking down, he looks over and he sees like, what looks like a sweet old lady with a walker. And she's got these big horn rimmed glasses on and she's got. She's got gray curly hair and it's all bunched up around her head.
Nathan:She sounds adorable.
Nick:Yeah, and she looks adorable.
Lauren:How dare you?
Nick:And. But as soon as. Just wait for it.
But as soon as Eloy sees her, he just gets this, this feeling of terror and he's like, oh, my God, how did you get here? And of course, I don't know if she's probably too far to talk to, but at least that's what he's thinking.
Corey:Okay, I was about to say. Do you want to say that out loud, or is that just what you're thinking to yourself?
Nick:You can see it all over my. All over Elu's face. He's just totally surprised.
And actually, the story is kind of complicated and it probably takes too long to tell, but let's just leave it at this. This old lady is not what she looks like, okay?
Corey:And you were responsible for her death, okay?
Nick:Oh, yeah, big time. By the way, elui is not sorry for that, okay? And he's a pretty sweet guy, okay?
Corey:So he's a very sweet guy, but he was not sorry for what he did to this old lady.
Nick:That's right.
Corey:Gotcha. Okay. She kind of locks eyes with you as you kind of, like, you know, you're freaking out as you see, like, the chair hits your face, okay?
She's sitting there just kind of hunched over. She's, like, knitting while she's waiting here. And she looks at you, and she just still has that kind of confused look.
So she looks at you for a moment, and you start to, like, fear maybe she's recognizing you. And then she kind of just turns and starts looking at everyone else. Just that confused look.
And she's, like, even looking at her hands while she's knitting, like, why am I doing this? You know, so she hasn't really.
Nick:And. And as. As she looks at Eloi, he, like, almost loses his bowels.
Corey:Wow.
Nick:Yeah.
Corey:It's okay. He's like, I can't wait to dive into this more.
Lauren:Okay.
Nick:Also, he's a little older, but there's that.
Corey:Okay.
Nick:All right.
Corey:So as you make your way, you know, you start passing a few people. You. You lock eyes with a few along the way. But luckily, from what you were kind of, you know, obtaining from this, no one really seems to notice you.
But you definitely notice them. Like I said, eventually you get to the desk, and as you stand at the desk, you hear, are you this being. They're about 6 foot 5. They're good tall.
So he, like, it is, like, looking down, you know, while it speaks. But you do notice, like, where the desk is.
There's, like, a spot where everyone's been standing in the center, but to the right, there's like, a little step stool with, like, four steps that kind of goes up to the desk. Sweet. So, you know, brings you up a little higher so you can see over it, right? And you hear. Welcome to Cindo. It's a world shaped like a donut.
It is separated into three Sections. The outer rim, also known as the Sprawl. It is the most habitable and safe. The inner rim, also known as the GFZ Gravity Flux zone. I wouldn't go there.
Just trust me. And the third section is the descent. It's a giant hole in the center of our land. And gravity doesn't always do what you expect.
To go there is certain death. No one has made it back from there. Actually, no one knows what's really down there. A cat and dog God run things.
People have unions and laws about mowing. And volcanoes occasionally sneeze.
Lauren:It's true.
Corey:There's rumors of a whale that show up. Sometimes barfs and is considered lucky. Magic exists, but mostly wizards deal with it. And stay away from the hole in the center.
That's pretty much it. Enjoy your stay. You will be given a name and uploaded with an identity. Please hold out your arm.
Nick:Okay, so he. Louie is just totally bewildered. And he's kind of like, now what?
Corey:Now please hold out your arm.
Nick:And so he pulls out his left arm and puts his arm out.
Corey:And you hear a sink as this needle comes out the wrist of this guy. And he says, you will be uploaded with an identity. Please stay still. And he, like, starts to slowly get the needle towards your arm.
Nick:Okay, so Eloi kind of starts sweating and starts looking around. And can he see that anyone else is doing this on the, like, in line, or is he the only one up there?
Corey:There is someone else in line. One of the. One of the victims. But you've noticed the difference between you three and. Well, actually, should we do our first roll of the game?
Nick:Yeah, why not?
Corey:Yeah, why don't you roll me a perception check?
Nick:Sweet.
Corey:Very first roll.
Lauren:What is it?
Nick:Okay, got a 19, baby.
Corey:I think that's probably gonna work.
Lauren:That's good.
Corey:Okay, I will say this. As this metal being is reaching for your arm, he's kind of like, got it. The needle's getting closer.
You do kind of look over and see that on a couple of the other desks. Some of the victims, we call them, they're getting the injection. But the one thing that you notice between you.
Well, I will say you haven't even necessarily noticed the other players yet. It's just you. You have noticed that, like, we'll say you notice them with this high roll.
So you notice that there are two other people in who are actually, like, looking around and focused and, like, what is going on, you know? But everyone else you see is just deadpan. Just that look of, like, deadpan confusion, but, like, with, but complying.
Nick:Okay.
Corey:You know, almost like they don't have like any thoughts of their own. Okay, but you seem to know, like me and maybe two other people seem to be at least aware.
Nick:Okay, so Yi Lui actually says, oh, excuse me, sir, actually, I've already had my shot. I don't need one, thank you.
Corey:And you hear his. His rune lights up, ping, negative. You are not in our system.
Nick:Liar. And he goes, oh, well, there must be some mistake, I've already had one, but thank you. And he turns, he turns around to.
Corey:Start to walk off, but he's kind of got like a grasp on your wrist still. And you hear another bing on like his forehead of the, the rune.
And you see the needle, the needle shoot back like into his wrist because he notices or something triggered and like sent a mess to this, this being in front of you. And when he looks at you, he says, we have an anomaly. Anomalies, Please wait in the waiting area.
And you see just to the other side of the desks there is like a, a roped off area with like maybe 10 seats right in there. And he's pointing you to there. And he says, anomaly, please have seat. Someone will be with you.
Nick:He says, oh, okay, I will do. Thank you.
Corey:And then you hear number 28. So while the number's being called, you're just gonna go have a seat in the anomaly area.
Nick:Yeah.
Corey:Okay.
Nick:And can I look around for like any type of escape or any way out or.
Corey:Yeah, sure, if you want to roll me another. Let's do an investigation check this time.
Nick:Okay. So I'm investigating for some way out of this situation where I don't have to sit in the waiting room. Some exit.
Corey:Oh, six.
Nick:But wait, I am really bad at investigation. So negative one makes it a negative one.
Corey:5. The only door you see is behind the desks.
Nick:Okay.
Corey:With these large metallic beings.
Nick:Okay. Eloise will sit for now.
Corey:Cool. Yes, you go and like there's like a little tiny entrance into this roped off area. You know, you take a seat, you're the only one there.
And then you hear again, number 28, stump. As you look down in your hand, you see the number 28.
Nathan:Stump hears that and he's like, oh, I wonder who that's going to be.
Corey:Then you hear Bing number 28.
Nathan:Hello, 28. How are we gonna be here all day?
Corey:And then you see that the being that is behind the desk calling the number his rune in his forehead. It actually shoots like a light, like a spotlight. And you see it's like, right on your face. And then it's like, 28, come to the desk.
Nathan:Stump is like, oh, oh, yeah, I'm 28, I guess. And he like, looks at his number and he's just like, I thought is definitely 29. And he goes up, he's like, ah, yes, what you require of Stump.
Corey:And so as you make your way also up to where he is calling you, you, same thing. You are starting to notice some of these people. There's some like, itching feeling like, oh, I kind of recognize them. Why don't you let us know?
Point somebody out, point everybody out. However you like to let us know how at least one of these is your victims. Like, how, how did you end their life?
Nathan:I have like a little flashback. So if we can do do do do do do do back to the past. Stump is traveling. He does a lot of traveling.
And while he's traveling, he hears through some trees, he hears some screaming. And Stump, being the nice guy he is, he runs through the trees to see if anybody needs help. And he sees a railroad track.
And down a ways on the track there's a split. And on one side is one person who's tied to the tracks. On the other side is, like five people tied to the tracks. And then, poof.
A wizard appears in front of Stump. And he says, hello, warrior. I have a test for thee. Would you like to participate? And Stump says, what is this? What are you doing to these people?
And he says, there is a train fastly approaching. You don't have time to save everyone. You can pull this lever and diverge the train to the left or the right.
If you turn it to the left, you will take the life of a sweet mother who has never done anything wrong. If you move it to the right, you will take the life of these bandits who have lived a life of violence and terror. What do you choose?
And Stump says, well, I don't have to choose anything. Stump save everyone. He runs over to the tracks before the train comes, and he grabs the tracks and lifts them straight up. The train comes.
Explosion, fire everywhere. There's pieces of, like, train falling down all around him. And the wizard goes, oh, my God.
Corey:What have you done?
Nathan:There was like a hundred people on that train. What's wrong with you? And Stump's like, what? And he says. And then he waves his. The wizard waves his hand and the people on the tracks disappear.
And he says, they were just an illusion. I was just trying to teach you a lesson on the hypocrisy of morality. I can't believe I'm getting the fuck out of here.
Lauren:This is crazy.
Nathan:And he disappears in a puff of smoke. And Stump is just standing there in silence.
And then cut back to the present and Stumppole is looking around at all these people and he's like, these kind of look like people that would like train.
Lauren:Oh, Lord.
Corey:Oh my gosh. So to save six people, you killed a hundred. Got it.
Lauren:You've failed the trolley problem.
Nick:Yeah.
Corey:To save six fake people. Oh my gosh. That has got to be the funniest thing.
Lauren:Okay, good job. All right.
Nick:That's super unfortunate.
Lauren:Yeah.
Corey:So as that kind of flashes through, you know, you begin to continue making your way up to the desk. And as you get to the desk, you hear, welcome to Sendo. It's a world shape like a donut. It is separated into three sections.
The outer rim, also known as the Sprawl. It is the most he and the same speech.
Nick:Yep.
Nathan:One more time.
Nick:Oh, yes.
Corey:Welcome to Sundayo.
Nick:It's a world.
Corey:Welcome to Sundayo.
Nathan:It's shaped like.
Corey:Welcome to Sunday. It's a world shape like a donut. It's separated.
Nathan:Wait, what? What donut? What is this?
Corey:Welcome.
Nick:Eloise at the side, watching this whole thing go down. And he's like, what kind of place is this?
Nathan:Wait, stop. Know what donut is? Donut is delicious.
Corey:Did you say your name is Stump?
Nathan:Yes. Stump requires your donuts.
Corey:The. The gem, the rune on his forehead blinks again and he says, we have an anomaly. We have an anomaly. Head to the anomaly waiting room.
And he points to where you see one lone dwarf sitting by himself.
Nick:Illui's kind of waving with a smile on his face.
Nathan:Stump kind of is confused, but he's really flattered. He doesn't know what an anomaly is, so he's kind of like, oh, Stump, must be very important to be some kind of nomoly. And he goes over to Ilui. Yep.
And says, so this is where the donuts are.
Lauren:Please sit on his lap.
Nathan:Hello down there. Can you hear with your ears? Stump has great hearing.
Nick:Louis is staring at this, this Goliath of a person and he's still smiling and he's, he's like super intrigued and he's. He says, he says, you must be lost like I am.
Nathan:Stump leans down and gives you a smooch on your forehead. You are very cute to stomp.
Nick:And he literally goes.
Nathan:Wow, do you do that every time? Stump kisses you again.
Lauren:Do I notice what's going on? I don't know these people, but am I In a place where I like watching what's happening to these streams.
Corey:He's definitely noticing what's going on.
Nick:He's looking over like, what?
Lauren:And I'm feeling left out.
Nathan:Yeah, everybody.
Corey:Yeah, you're definitely noticing this. So as Stump kind of makes his way over there, you know, you take a seat. This, this is going on between them.
You just see smooch, laugh, smooch, laugh. And then you hear number 29.
Lauren:Oh, I was hoping it'd be 69. I was hoping you'd say that number.
Corey:And then you look down and you see in your hand, Esmeralda, also known as Easy. You see your number 29.
Lauren:So I see the former people go up there and I just like look around and I, I trip. As I walk up there, I'm really nervous and I'm like shaking and I'm like, yes, sir.
Corey:So hey, as you're like walking up there and you trip. Yeah, you, you see, you, you know, you hit the floor about halfway there and you see just this deadpan based person reach down and like help you up.
And then as you turn to look at them, like you, you definitely know who this is.
And this person, for the, for the first time, like after seeing everyone's face, this person actually has a little more of like a. Huh, like, look at you.
Lauren:They know me.
Corey:And they go, you look familiar. Do I know you?
Lauren:No.
Nathan:Most believable no ever.
Corey:And then they say, oh, my mistake. And they go back to just like sitting with their like deadpan look.
As you get back up, why don't you explain to us how you were responsible for this person's death?
Lauren:So I have just to let you guys know, I. There are things that I wish that I were better at doing and I. And animal handling is one of them. I'm not, I'm not too gifted in that.
Maybe one day I can, you know, become proficient in that. And so, but as it currently stands from my stats, I have negative ones.
So, I mean, I was in town and it was sprawling and lots of people shopping and doing their thing and I, I don't know, come across like, oh, let's, let's say say a cow. I don't know. So I go up to this cow.
Corey:And try to handle it.
Lauren:So, and I, and I, and I'm like, I think it's so cute. And I'm like petting it and I'm trying to talk to it and it's not having it.
And then, and then this cow starts talking to another cow and they go in Cahoots. And then essentially a few minutes later, I kind of start a stampede within the town. And so actually.
So it's kind of similar to little Stumpy over here. There's a lot of people that got trampled.
Corey:This was just one of the people.
Lauren:Got trampled in town. And just due to my ignorance and. And so it was.
Nick:I can.
Lauren:I kind of like Kool Aid man. Like, out out, you know, or, you know, just like, you know, as you, like, bust in and then you kind of like creep out, back out. Yeah.
And so that's really what happened. And so you.
Nathan:You pet a cow so bad that it went to the other cows and was like, fuck these people. Yes, let's go trample some people. They're so bad at petting.
Nick:So bad.
Lauren:Like, just not good at petting a cow. And so that's essentially what happened. It's really embarrassing.
Nathan:That's amazing.
Corey:Okay.
Lauren:Wow.
Nick:So as you kind of just really unfortunately, also unfortunate. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Corey:As you kind of figure that out and you're like, that's processing through your head, you. You get back up. You're like, you know, make your way to. To the. The desk. And as you get there, same thing. The.
The being behind the desk says, welcome to Sandeo. It's a world shaped like a donut. It is separated into three sections. The Outer Rim, also known as All.
It's the most habitual and safe interim, known as the gfz. I wouldn't go there. Just trust me.
Lauren:In the third, do you have any cows?
Corey:Welcome to Zendayo. It's a world. So eventually get through the spiel again. A new identity will be uploaded. Please hold out your arm.
Lauren:I don't know. I. Go ahead and hold it out.
Corey:Okay, so you hold out the arm.
Nathan:So you're gonna do it.
Lauren:So I hold out my arm like I'm a good person.
Corey:And do you say that out loud? Yes. The minute you say that out loud, you say, I'm a good person.
The thing goes off on its head and the needle goes back in and says, we have an anomaly.
Lauren:Being a good person is an anomaly.
Corey:So in case you haven't noticed so far, the three of you have actually are coherent. Yeah.
Nathan:And everybody. Yeah, I was noticing that everybody else is weird. And we're the ones that are not weird.
Nick:Right.
Corey:So you are coherent, which means you are an anomaly. And so you see the same thing.
The creature points over to the waiting room, says, anomalies, please wait in the waiting room, and points to the room where you see this giant of a man and this small of a man.
Lauren:I go over and kiss the guy's forehead. So I saw that. This is how we're introducing ourselves. This person gets looked like fun.
Nathan:You must be the donut person.
Lauren:I wish.
Nathan:Oh, you don't have donuts? No.
Lauren:I'm actually kind of fearful.
Nick:What do you think we're doing here? What's going on? Well, I was looking for a way out that I couldn't see one. But just the one exit.
Lauren:I. I didn't start any stampedes, if that was your next question.
Nick:A stampede?
Lauren:No, I didn't. I don't know what. I don't know what those are. What are we doing here?
Nathan:Oh, that's kind of a really wild thing to just say. All of a sud.
Corey:Whatever.
Lauren:I just wanted to meet you. I just wanted you guys to know.
Nathan:Oh, that's good to know. Good to know. Also, while we're on the subject, Stump has never seen a train.
Lauren:A train?
Nathan:Nope.
Nick:What a weird bunch of people we have here.
Lauren:Do you have anything to say, cute man?
Nick:Oh, are you talking to me? Eloise? My name. Nice to meet you.
Nathan:Oh, Stump, completely forget about names. You probably don't know what Stump's name is.
Nick:Yeah.
Nathan:Would you like to know what Stomp's name is?
Nick:Can I take a guess?
Nathan:I guess. But you're not gonna guess it.
Nick:Could it be perhaps be Stump?
Nathan:How do you. How did.
Lauren:How did you know that I was gonna guess? Frank?
Nathan:He laughs all the time, not just for kids.
Nick:What a fine laughs to say Frank. You know his name's not Frank, don't you?
Lauren:I wasn't sure.
Corey:Wait, your name.
Nathan:Who's Frank? Your Frank.
Lauren:Having a good time?
Nathan:Stump like this guy, he thinks everything Stump says is funny.
Nick:Actually, I've got a splitting headache. Either of you have a pint of beer on you?
Corey:Always?
Lauren:Oh, yes.
Nick:Would you mind sharing my last?
Lauren:Yeah. So I hand my little.
Corey:You my little flask. You realize none of you have any equipment on you.
Lauren:So I go into where it would normally be. I'm like feeling around.
Nick:And Eloise says, would you like some privacy?
Lauren:No.
Corey:Yeah, there's no equipment, no weapons. You're in plain clothes at the moment. So that's kind of how you find yourself birth in here.
And you hear one of the closest who was on the third desk, which is not closest to your waiting room, being metallic being that's behind there that looks at you all and says it will be just one more moment.
Nathan:Okay, for what? Time's up. There goes moment. There Goes another moment. Oh, look at that. Three moments. Hey, little man. How many moments we at?
Corey:He says, do you think we ought.
Nick:To get out of here before someone shows up? We may not want to see?
Lauren:That's already happened.
Nathan:Why would we want to leave? They're treating us like celebrities.
Lauren:We're anomalies. Because I'm a good person. I'm a good person, and I'm an anomaly for it, but I actually do want to get out of here because.
And then I kind of just like, point in the general direction of the exit of, like, the people.
Corey:Oh, the people.
Lauren:Yeah, yeah.
Nick:Oh, yeah.
Corey:And then.
Nick:And then he looks over and he looks back, and his face is, like, white, and he's like, I agree with you. We need to get the hell out of here.
Lauren:I'm like, wtf?
Corey:And eventually, coming around or coming through that door that's behind the desks, you see a small gnome man wearing a suit and tie, kind of messy hair, looks very nervous and just holding a clipboard. And he comes running through. He's like, trying to, you know, put his hair back. Back to normal. And he. He walks into your area. He's like, oh. Oh, hello.
Hello. Hello. My name is Finch, and I've. I've been waiting for this to happen. I knew there had to be at least one or two. Oh. And he looks at his clipboard.
Oh, actually, I don't have. Do you have name?
Nick:Oh, question.
Corey:Yes, question. Do you have names?
Lauren:Oh, you are adorable.
Corey:Thank you.
Lauren:And I am Esmeralda.
Corey:And he, like, scribbles down Esmeralda.
Lauren:Fitz monster.
Corey:Fits in a monster.
Lauren:No, Fitz monster.
Corey:Fitz monster. I'm so. I'm so sorry. Please forgive me.
Lauren:How dare you.
Corey:I'm so sorry. So sorry.
Lauren:No, it's fine.
Nathan:Probably would fit in a monster, so you could probably write it back down.
Corey:And Chi. What is your name? You have a name, right?
Nathan:Yes, Stump has a name. Would you like to know it?
Corey:Stump.
Lauren:It's Frank.
Corey:Stump. Frank.
Nathan:Does everybody know who Stump is here?
Corey:So he begins writing that down. He's like, marvelous. Two have names. Are we gonna get two out of three? Are we gonna get three out of three? Do you have a name?
Nick:He says, you look like a nice lad. You can call me E. E?
Corey:How many E's is that?
Nick:E? It's just the one.
Nathan:Oh, just the one.
Corey:Okay, easy, easy. All right, so we have Esmeralda, we have Stump, and we have E. Oh, this is marvelous. Marvelous. Okay.
I didn't know we were going to have three anomalies. I'M sure you have many questions, but let me quickly explain what has happened here. I'm sure you're really wondering what.
You have past memories, don't you? Or at least an inkling of past memories.
Lauren:Just less than a handful.
Corey:But are there some?
Nick:Ay, there are some.
Corey:Oh, great. Goodness. And he starts writing down again. Okay, yeah, that wasn't supposed to happen. There was.
Well, there was an error when this world was created and you were supposed to be reborn as a new person. But you are the same, and you're the same here as you were in your past life. So sorry you didn't get a new being, but you are the same person.
We get a kind of, I guess, second chance. Well, this hasn't happened before. That's what happens when you have inexperienced creators. You know, they gave.
They gave the demigods a chance and they just screwed things up.
Nathan:Yeah, they sound really stupid.
Corey:He actually looks around. He's kind of scared that he, like, let that slip out of his mouth about like the dumb demigods. And he's like, he actually looks a little scared.
Like somebody may have heard him say that. Tell anybody.
Well, normally we would just inject you and upload you with all the information of this world, basically give you an identity and send you into the world, since you already. Oh, yes.
Nick:Not sure that we need to go through all that now, do we, lad?
Corey:Well, I guess no, because since you're already, you know, how you are, I guess I can just give you a crash course on where you're at.
Lauren:Let's do it.
Nick:That would be very kind of you.
Corey:Oh, okay, Okay. I never had to do this before, so. Okay. Kind of like tightens up his tie.
Lauren:I'm gonna try and hold his hand so he can calm down.
Corey:Okay? Is this something like in your culture? Okay.
And he like, kind of holds your hand for a minute, like, straightens his tie with his other hand and he's like, well, okay. He begins to talk to you like you're not necessarily dumb, but like you're just like, maybe coming to. He's like, you are in the dmv.
That is the division of mystical voyages. You see, these are scattered all over Sunday. Oh, by the way, Sendeo is the name of this world, world that you are in, okay? Sandeo is the world.
And this that you are in right now. This is the main hub, the spawning hub, the spawning dmv.
And you can use the DMV for long range travel through all our interconnected networks using the hydro tubes. That's Something we created. It is really awesome. And you can like travel between DMVs throughout the world. Throughout this whole world.
Now also, the DMV offers jobs to anyone who is willing to take them. You'll find them on our job board, listed in every lobby, all over Sandeo. They quite vary in what the quest is. You get paid by completing them.
So if you want to make some money, and most of the newbies here do that, are like first born into this world. You know, they start completing some quests, do some jobs, make some transactions that way, and they quite vary in what the quest is.
You get paid by completing them. They range from an S Tier one to an S Tier five. Tier ones are being the easiest. Obviously it's a one. And tier five.
Well, no one has actually completed a Tier five in all of Sendaio's history. They are quite dangerous.
Nathan:Give stump the tier 5.
Corey:We'll get there later, maybe.
Nick:What a strange occurrence this is.
Corey:Yes, it is interesting.
Lauren:This is great.
Corey:Oh, I haven't even gotten to the interesting stuff yet. Trust me, but here comes the donuts. Oh, yes, please. Yes. Our world is shaped like a donut.
Lauren:That is true.
Corey:So, a good tip. If you are looking for a place to live, look to the outer rim. It's actually much safer. And the gravity is way more stable than there.
And just so you know, Sandeo isn't like other worlds. It's different. It has flaws. So my advice? Be careful who you trust around here.
Nick:We're.
Corey:We're still working out the bugs.
Nathan:Oh, okay. But Stump, trust you implicitly.
Corey:Oh my goodness. Thank you. I don't think I've ever had anyone say that to me.
Lauren:And I squeeze his hand while Stump says that as like, acknowledgement that I agree.
Nick:You do seem like a nice lad.
Corey:Oh, thank you. I try my best. I. I kind of, you know, I'm the overseer of the DMVs and I work at least, what is it, 23 and a half hours a day?
Lauren:Oh my goodness. Are we on a.
Nathan:Kind of slacking on that one hour, don't you think?
Corey:I just. I just. I'm working all the time. There's just so much on my shoulders. Oh, I'm sorry. Think positive. Think positive. Finch, you got this. Think positive.
Nick:Okay.
Lauren:Yes, you do.
Corey:Yeah.
Lauren:Squeeze his hand.
Corey:Oh.
Nathan:That'S so cute.
Corey:Well, so normally I wouldn't do this, but since you're you, and since you technically don't exist properly yet, you can't be uploaded, named, or assigned housing until your anomaly. Your anomaly status is Cleared, which unfortunately means you can't leave the DMV network until you've been cleared as an anomaly.
Nick:And how would we be cleared?
Corey:Well, there's probably several ways I can do this. I can bring this up to the bosses and, you know, run it up the chain. You know, might take a couple days, see if we can get you some clearance.
And then all of a sudden you see, like, his. His clipboard. It kind of begins to like, shake on its own. And there's like, like a flash of light on his clipboard.
He's like, oh, oh, well, actually, I got some good news. My paperwork has just been updated and anomalies are now getting fast tracked.
Nick:Well, that's great news. That's great news. It's our lucky day.
Corey:And no, the bad news is basically something is going wrong in the DMV right now. I also got a message saying that something bad is happening down in our tunnel system. So that might affect us getting you out of here.
Nathan:Oh, well, Stump should probably go take a look then. And he starts kind of walking over to where he pointed.
Corey:Hold on, please. Hold on. There's procedure. There's procedure. This is, you know, we take our procedures very seriously. You know, I can get you a number.
Oh, I'm sure you're more thankful. You start to hear like a bunch of clanging coming from behind the door behind the desks where the beings are.
And they're still continuing to talk and they're still injecting people, but you start hearing a bunch of noises like, ah. Yep, that. That, that'll be it. That's the noise. You know what we could do?
Oh, my paperwork is now saying, oh, okay, I'm supposed to take you to the job board, actually. Hold on. And he like, runs to the job board and on the job board is different runes. They're like perfectly round and spheres.
And you see one light up and he grabs it and he holds it and kind of like looks into it and he says, okay, well, following orders, he comes back and he says, I found a job posting. It is called the Lost and Found Retrieval. Apparently the thing that is causing a lot of chaos in our tunnel system was.
Well, it was something that we confiscated and now it's kind of broken loose. Yeah, but it does say, and it is, it surprisingly has your names on this. And it says the payment is identity, identity clearance and a basic stipend.
Lauren:Is it level five?
Corey:No, this is only a tier one. I'm sorry.
Lauren:Oh my goodness.
Corey:I'm supposed to give this to you when you kind of hands stump this orb.
Nathan:Okay, Stumpp leans way down and he takes the orb and then he says, one moment. And he looks at Ella Fitzmonster.
Lauren:Right, Esmerelda. Easy. And I'm still holding his hand, so I'm like, yes.
Nathan:He picks up Fitzmonster and puts her on Eloise shoulders. And then he picks up the little gnome guy and puts him on Esmerelda Fitzmonster shoulders. And he says, there we go.
Okay, can you everything one more time, please?
Corey:He says, so I got a note to get you all fast tracked.
Lauren:Oh, boy.
Corey:You have to complete this job and your payment will be your identity clearance.
Nathan:When is donuts?
Corey:We don't see donuts.
Nick:Yes, we'll do it, laddie. Just point us in the right direction.
Corey:Yeah, so it's actually going to be in our tunnel system. So you'll just have to go through these doors and whenever you find the issue, contain it and just bring it back to us so we can recontain it.
According to my notes, it's not dangerous unless it gets wet, angry, or both.
Nick:Contain it. You say there's something there we're supposed to contain?
Corey:Yes.
Lauren:Is it an animal?
Corey:I don't know. I just got to note that it was something that was in our storage that has broken loose.
Lauren:I'm so ready to prove myself and start fresh here.
Nathan:You seem like someone who would be great at handling animals.
Lauren:I don't know, Stump.
Nathan:Have great intuition.
Lauren:Do not tempt me with a good time.
Nathan:Well, let's go. Let's handle this. And Stump winks at like, nobody.
Nick:And he says, well, if that'll be all, if you could kindly get off my shoulders, I'd appreciate it.
Lauren:I'm pretty hefty, so like.
Corey:And you're pretty hefty for last.
Nick:Not gonna lie though. You've got a lassie face.
Lauren:Yeah. Oh, I. Are you flirting with me? I hop off.
Nick:That's flirting. I'm way too old for you, lass.
Corey:Oh, we'll see about that.
Nathan:I love the like, gnome laugh thing you're doing. It's great.
Corey:Little dwarven laugh.
Nathan:That's bringing me a lot of joy.
Lauren:Okay, so it's a lot of joy too, apparently.
Corey:What would you all like to do?
Nick:Yeah, I think we're ready to go find the thing.
Nathan:So we know because he pointed. We know where these tubes are. Right.
Corey:He just pointed to the door behind the desks.
Nathan:Okay, I want to go through this door and then immediately do a perception check.
Corey:Cool.
Nick:Yeah.
Corey:You open the door.
Lauren:It's very astute of you.
Corey:Yeah, I'm sorry.
Nathan:That was out of character. Dmn. Can somebody else do that?
Nick:Yeah. Ego's behind, and he does let stomp. Go ahead, but as soon as.
And he's kind of, like, peeking over behind, you know, the side of his hip as he's going through the door. And then. Yeah, he wants to do a. He looks around.
Corey:Sure. Yeah. Roll a perception check.
Lauren:Oof.
Nick:We're gonna.
Corey:Nate, we got an eight.
Lauren:Can I roll two?
Nathan:Can we all.
Corey:Yes. Yeah, you all technically can roll.
Lauren:Yes.
Nick:Yay.
Lauren:Oh, my gosh. Everybody, my first roll.
Corey:That's a Nat 21-21-20.
Nick:You should quit right here.
Lauren:This is going to be a magical podcast.
Nathan:Of course, it was for, like, a perception.
Corey:I know. I wish you wouldn't have rolled the 20 right here, but.
Lauren:No, this is wonderful. This is. I'm starting my life one for one on crits.
Corey:That's true.
Nick:Come on, girl.
Corey:As you open the door, you notice that you just see a really long hallway that goes straight down and a little bit down the ways you see it kind of.
So, yeah, when you first open the door, there's a long hallway straight, and then just like, a few steps forward, there's a hallway that goes to the right. The things that you notice are there's, like, handrails along the wall, tubes that are on the ceiling that go down.
You don't necessarily what flows through these tubes, but something flows through these tubes.
There's a lot of, like, little cage boxes along the way where there's, like, some tools stored and just, like, some things that they use around the dmv. But you notice that, yeah, this is just kind of the.
Maybe just where they house a lot of their storage, where there looks like there might be some offices back here, maybe something like an engine room, because they said they do a lot of transportation around here. So this is just the hallway system or slash tunnel system that is behind the dmv.
Lauren:Okay. So I report that I, you know, to my comrades here and what kind of. And what kind of tools are they? Because we don't have anything on us.
So I think it might probably be useful for me to, like, steal to. Yeah. To look and maybe arm ourselves with, like, a pencil or. I don't.
Nick:Or something.
Corey:I will say, like, with your 20, what I will give you with your 20 is that sound of, like, clinking and stuff you heard while you're out in the lobby where Finch was like, yeah, that sounds like it. I will say it sounds like it's coming more from the Right.
So I will give you that since you're only at 20 now, if you do want to look in one of the cages for like tools, you look in the tools and you see that there's like, there's like a small hammer. It's kind of like a finishing hammer. So it's not like a heavy duty thing. But I mean, it's got, you know, an iron top to it.
So it's like a good little tack hammer.
Lauren:Okay. I take that and I say, hey, there's some tools in this thing. And I'm hearing some stuff to the right. So do what you will with that information.
Nathan:Anything else, like a stapler or something?
Corey:There is, let's see, also in there, there's like a. It's like what their version of like a monkey wrench would be.
Nathan:Oh, okay.
Corey:For like tightening stuff around these like tubes that are going up. It's very like rudimentary, but it's. It feels solid, you know, Stump picks it up.
Nathan:This must be some kind of gorilla wrench. Yeah, Stump can only assume not like monkey wrench stomp. See that before. This is slightly different.
Corey:Gorilla wrench, slightly. And there is one last thing left in that little tool. Toolbox. They're surprising. There's three things in here.
Nick:It's weird.
He walks over and as he's looking at it and checking it out, he does this thing where he kind of like takes his beard because it's got a six foot long beard and kind of just pulls it to the side. And he's got a very contemplative look in his face. And he's looking down. So what does he see?
Corey:Absolutely. What you see is about, I'd say about 10ft of like really thick braided rope.
Nick:Wow. Thick braided rope. Ten foot. Yeah. And he goes, oh, I think I can use that.
Nathan:I feel like rope is one of those DND items that's just like endless possibilities.
Corey:Yep.
Nathan:There's so much shenanigans you can get up to with rope.
Lauren:Rope shenanigans.
Corey:So you pick up your tools out of this cage. What do you all do now?
So like I said, when you first entered this hallway system, there was to the right and straight down to the right is where you kind of hear it.
Lauren:I kind of start going. And I like motion. For you guys to follow me and you can if you want.
Nathan:Well, I mean, yeah, we're on this job together. Stump is willing to get this job done.
Lauren:Yeah.
Nick:So he goes, and are we turning right? Okay. So as we turn right and e Is just kind of looking around to see if he can see anything out of the, you know, usual there.
Corey:So you kind of, like, look ahead.
Nick:Yeah, just. Just kind of being ready to. And looking down left. Right.
Nathan:So just to clarify, we're in a hallway, and Fitzmonster heard noises to the right. So it's like, in the wall just.
Corey:Somewhere down the hallway.
Nathan:Oh, down the hallway to the right.
Corey:Yeah.
Nick:And down. Further down the tube.
Corey:Oh, yeah. Okay.
Lauren:The tube.
Corey:Yeah. So it's like two paths. The right path is the one that she heard the stuff coming from.
Nathan:Gotcha.
Corey:So you're about halfway down this right tunnel. It's actually kind of surprising how long these things are.
Lauren:That's what she said.
Nathan:I'm gonna call for an immediate ban on all that.
Corey:That's what she said.
Nathan:Joe, can we put this to a vote?
Lauren:I don't know if I can.
Corey:We'll have a. It's kind of like a swear jar jar. We'll have a. A quarter jar for every time there's a. That's what she said joke. Recording it.
Lauren:Don't make comments that can be referred to penises. Continue.
Corey:As you are making your way halfway down this hallway, you begin to feel a vibration under your feet. Like the floor is starting to vibrate. The walls and the metal are starting to vibrate a little bit. And then you hear a popping noise.
And I need you all to roll a dexterity save throw for me. Oh, I got not 20.
Lauren:Oh, my.
Nathan:I'm wasting them early 18 on this.
Lauren:So great for you guys. Not as great for me. This. This go around.
Nathan:Did you get a one?
Lauren:No, I got a nine.
Nathan:It's not so bad.
Corey:What'd you get, E?
Nick:18.
Corey:18. And stump for dexterity throws. As a barbarian, you also get advantage on dexterity saving throws. But you're all the net 20, so it doesn't matter.
Nathan:Okay.
Corey:Yeah. So, okay, so stump and E. You're able to kind of. As you hear that pop, the shaking kind of subsides, and nothing really happens.
You still feel pretty grounded. Esmeralda, on the other hand, you feel. You feel kind of a pool in your body that, like, is pulling you up. You begin to actually float.
Lauren:Ooh.
Corey:Whoa. Yeah.
Lauren:Actually fun.
Corey:And you're kind of like.
It's almost like you're on, you know, the whole, like, in the space, and you're just kind of floating and you're getting pulled up to the ceiling, and they, like, bounce off the wall. As you two kind of hear clunk. You turn around, you see, just easy Just floating up there.
Nathan:You can fly now?
Nick:It's about.
Corey:The ceiling's about 8ft tall, and I'm.
Lauren:Wearing, like, heavy duty armor, so it's like, clunk, clunk, clunk, as I like.
Corey:Running bang into it. Yeah, but you two weren't really affected. You kind of started to feel something weird, vibration.
But, yeah, you turn, you just see Esmeralda just floating, just.
Lauren:And I'm waiting into things.
Nick:And he says, I think you ought to grab her.
Nathan:Oh, I mean, by the arm, Stump. No, it's.
Lauren:What else would he grab?
Nick:Or the leg.
Nathan:Do you require Stump's help, or is this something that naturally you like to do?
Lauren:I mean, I've never done this before. It's not bad. But I should probably come down.
Nick:Okay.
Nathan:Stump says, can I borrow your rope? I'll trade you for this gorilla wrench.
Nick:Well, I don't really want her wrench. And you probably could just reach her lead. But if you really would like the rope, you can see it for a moment.
Nathan:Stump show you. You're gonna love this.
Corey:Oh, okay.
Nick:And so he hands him the rope.
Nathan:So Stump takes the rope and he ties it around Fitzmonster and then kind of holds her like a balloon.
Corey:Just holds down enough to where she's floating up.
Nathan:And then he gives it back to Eloui, and he's like, I guess you couldn't have this since you wouldn't trade.
Nick:But, well, I think you. Stump, are you okay up there? Easy.
Lauren:This is fine.
Corey:And then after about a few, like, seconds of you doing that, like, well, I guess we're gonna walk like this. Immediately, that feeling that you had is just gone. And you just come crashing right to.
Nick:The floor with a smack.
Lauren:Well, I do have pretty good armor, but I do, like, feel it.
Corey:Yeah, it wasn't. You weren't necessarily, like, high enough to really, like, take some damage, but, like, it was kind of like. Kind of like. Yeah.
Lauren:Note first for future reference. If you get pulled up, just come on down before you go down. That hurt.
Nick:That was weird.
Nathan:Yeah.
Lauren:But thanks for playing along and making me a balloon for a little bit.
Nick:Yeah.
Corey:So, yeah, you kind of stand back up feeling, you know, not so weightless anymore. Y' all continue down the hallway.
Nick:Oh, yeah. E continues. And he's still kind of looking and listening, kind of trying to be alert.
Corey:Okay. Yeah. So you make your way down the hallway, and eventually it curves a little to the left, and it comes to an opening.
And in this opening, you see just a large square room. Probably, like, I don't know, 15ft by 15ft, this room is. You see some panels where there's some kind of clear tubes coming out of these.
These metallic boxes. And you see actually air, like, passing through. And it's also kind of cold to the touch also, if you were to touch it.
But over in the corner, literally.
Nathan:Cool.
Nick:Yeah.
Corey:Over in the corner, you see somebody actually just sitting down with their feet kicked back on a chair.
Lauren:Do they look threatening or do they look chill?
Corey:I don't actually look chill. In front of you, you see a man with a long white cloak, big hat, beard that rivals yours. This one's probably like 12ft long. Like, it is long.
And you just see this man sitting there, his feet kicked up, long robes, and he's just smoking a pipe.
Lauren:I'm like, hubba, hubba.
Nick:But do you say that out loud? Yeah, Easy says that out loud.
Lauren:Yeah. I'm like.
Nick:So he kind of takes a look at Easy and then kind of looks back at him and smiles.
Nathan:Oh, you. You know this man? Hello. Hubba hubba.
Lauren:I do not, but I like to.
Nick:And he says, hello there, kind sir. We're looking for something to fix the teleportation system for. To go back to the donut place.
Nathan:Yes, we are the celebrities. You probably have heard of us.
Nick:Well, that's not exactly what he said, is it, lad?
Nathan:That's exactly what he said.
Corey:Oh, I don't know who the hell you all are, but y' all just keep on walking them. I'm gonna break.
Nick:Not the voice I thought was coming out of this. I tell you what. Wizard looking guy is he. Wizardly looking guy? Yeah, he's got.
Corey:He's. This is the stereotype of a wizard.
Nick:He's got the robes, he's smoking a pipe.
Lauren:I'm even more like, like, attracted. I'm like, can I take a puff of that pipe?
Corey:Hey, you little one there, blushing like crazy. I ain't interested.
Lauren:That's. Wow. Okay, so.
Nick:So he wants to look around and see if this is the problem that we're. Oh, so. So maybe he could say, well, just a. Just a question, and we'll be on our way.
Corey:I'm on my break.
Nick:Who's the boy sitting in the corner? Oh, was there a boy sitting in the corner?
Corey:No, he's the one who was sitting in the corner.
Nick:Yeah, who are you? Okay, he was sitting in the corner on break. Okay, so I want to look around and see if, like, this guy seems to have caused any kind of.
Oh, he's a wizard that's been unionized. So that's why he gets it.
Nathan:Oh, my God. It just connected.
Corey:There you go.
Nick:That's hilarious. Okay, so he wants to look around and see, like, is what if. If this is the guy. That's because we're looking for a problem, right?
Corey:We're looking.
Nathan:Yeah. Can we hear, like, should I roll for hearing? Like, can we hear that?
Corey:Yeah, if you want to, like, kind of pause and, like. Yeah, roll to see if you hear something. For sure. So maybe I'd be just do handy Perception.
Nick:Perception.
Nathan:Okay. We could probably all perceive if we want to.
Lauren:I'm pretty good.
Nathan:Can we all please perceive?
Nick:I got a five.
Lauren:Oh, man. I rolled a nine.
Corey:Okay.
Lauren:I saw everything. And then I saw nine.
Nick:14.
Corey:14.
Nick:Yeah.
Corey:Okay, I will say.
Nick:And I'm just looking to see if this is anything to do with the problem or if we need to move on.
Corey:In this room, there is a door that. Or not a door, but the hallway does keep going straight past this room. And there's also a entry to the left. So, like, straight and left.
And you do hear a little faint, like, clunk, clunk, clunk. Coming to the left.
Nick:Okay.
Corey:And as you kind of hear that and you're about to, like, let everyone know, the wizard in the corner says, oh, here comes another one.
And you see him, like, take his, like, pull his, like, staff out, has, like, a crook on the end, and he, like, attaches it onto a pipe and, like, holds onto it.
Nick:Oh. And then I. And then he quickly grabs Stump's leg.
Nathan:All right.
Nick:And then I search for anything on the wall that I can also hold on to.
Corey:Okay. Roll a constitution saving throw.
Nathan:All of us.
Corey:Or you can roll it. But if you've grabbed onto something, you necessarily have to roll it.
Nick:Okay.
Nathan:Okay. I don't know what that stump did, so.
Lauren:Well, I. That's what I was asking, dude. I notice him hold on to something.
Corey:Like, I will say, you notice? Yeah. Okay, so do you grab onto something?
Lauren:Oh, yeah.
Corey:Okay, so you notice that the wizard did that. And you see that E. You just grab stump is all you do. Yeah, because I. I picture those fist monster.
Nathan:You grab something.
Lauren:I hold on to the wizard. Wizard.
Nick:Okay.
Nathan:And then Stump grabs to the wizard. Esmeralda.
Lauren:I run to his arms. Unfortunately, I need to.
Nathan:Yeah.
Corey:All right, so you'll need to roll the constitution saving throw.
Nathan:Okay, so you're grabbing the wizard. I'm grabbing you. Eloise grabbing Stump.
Lauren:Yeah, this is just.
Nathan:I'm gonna do a constitution saving throw. My constitution's plus three.
Lauren:Three.
Nathan:So I got 13. Plus three.
Corey:13 on this one. Okay, 16. Yeah. So this one affects a little bit differently. That's why I'm doing the constitution.
Because this one, you start to feel the room kind of shift in, like, color and hue, and you're not sure exactly why. You hear some strange noises, but you can't quite make them out. They're very faint.
But at the same time, you see that your body begins to rise just a little bit, though. Not a whole lot. It's just like. Not like Esmerelda, where, you know, she was up hitting the ceiling. Yeah, you do rise just a little bit. I'll say.
The weight of all of you. The wizard just looking at you all, just, like, shaking his head, you know, just like, why? But eventually it subsides.
You were maybe just a foot off the ground. Okay. And then eventually it subsides, and you. I'll pop back down.
Nick:And he says, what was that?
Corey:That's the thing that's on the loose around here. It's causing it.
Nick:There's a creature.
Corey:Yeah, something like that.
Nick:And where might we find the creature?
Corey:I'm on my break.
Lauren:Well, like, he's on his break.
Nick:If you'd kindly point us in the right direction, then maybe we can take.
Corey:Care of him back to that hallway that you heard. That noise. He, like, throws his thumb to that hallway.
Nick:Well, thank you kindly, sir.
Corey:Yeah, don't mention it. He, like, puts his head back down, smoking his pipe. It's about to take a nap.
Lauren:I love him.
Nick:Are you telling. Are you confiding in Stump, or.
Lauren:Yeah, yes, I'll confide to Stump.
Nathan:Stump turns to. And he says, before we leave, Mr. Hubba Hubba.
Corey:The name's Leester. Oh, Lester.
Nick:Wow. It does not sound like a.
Lauren:How's my grandpa?
Nick:Oh, sounds like a wonderful man.
Corey:I mean, just Leester. Leester. Family name.
Nathan:Well, then, Mr. Leester, just so you know. And he kind of looks behind and he says, my friend, like, likes you.
Lauren:And I start twerking.
Corey:And all. You hear this. This wizard man say. He looks at Esmeralda and he's like, this girl ain't right.
Nathan:Can. Can the gravity fluctuation hit right as fist monsters?
Corey:Sure. Roll.
Nathan:And a performance check.
Corey:Just a deck save will do.
Lauren:Oh, no. I'm torquing it to the sky.
Nathan:That's a three.
Lauren:It's a four, actually.
Corey:This time the gravity, instead of going up, it does go up a little bit, but it's actually pulling you into that room where the noise is coming from. It's like you're, like, floating away.
Nathan:Twerking in the air.
Corey:Just leaving.
Nick:I'm just curious what the expression is on your face on Easy Space. Right now.
Lauren:I am smiling, and you're just, like.
Nick:Having a good old time right now. Some kind of creature, monster, something. Okay, so E. E is. He's like, wait, wait.
Nathan:And.
Nick:And he kind of starts going after Easy into that. Toward that room.
Nathan:Yeah. Stump looks at the wizard janitor again and says, think about that. And then he leaves.
Corey:Okay, perfect. As you, my wingman. As you make your way after E. Easy, this hallway goes a little bit of a ways.
Eventually, you catch up to Easy and the gravity anomaly starts to wear off and you begin to float down, feet planted firmly on the ground. Again, as you keep making your way down this hallway, you eventually get to a room that seems to be pretty beat up.
It's like a lot of stuff has been punched into the wall. You see indentions all over this room. Like something maybe went crazy and was just bouncing into things.
Nathan:Gotcha. Well, I would like to do a. Either perception or investigation.
Corey:You can do an investigation.
Nathan:Check the room looking for just any kind of. Because we know it's a living creature. Just any kind of creature. That is an 11. And I have. I have a minus two in investigation.
Corey:Yep.
Nick:Yep.
Nathan:So that's a nine.
Corey:It's a room with a bunch of dents in the wall.
Nick:So as I'm as E is catching up with Easy. As E. Lui is catching up with Easy, so he's also kind of readying himself because, I mean, there was.
The clunking was coming from there, and so can he look? Can I look around?
Corey:Yeah, you wanna investigate?
Nick:Yeah, I wanna do investigation to see. I wanna try to. Oh, she's on the ground.
Corey:Yeah, she's back on the ground.
Nick:Okay. Okay, So I just wanna look around now that she's down and I've stopped twerking. Looking for this. Okay, you stopped twerking.
And you're like, I'm in a new room now. And just look for whatever's making this noise.
Corey:Okay.
Nick:Or what may have made these dense.
Corey:Yeah.
Nick:Ooh, that's an eight plus. Oh, my goodness. Or minus minus one.
Corey:Y' all suck at investigating.
Nathan:We're the worst detectives ever.
Corey:Easy. Would you like to investigate?
Nick:You got this.
Lauren:How do I have the highest intelligence? I have plus zero.
Nick:Yeah, I'm a negative one on the investigation.
Lauren:That's not good.
Nick:But I'm dexterous, baby.
Lauren:And I'm very strong. Oh, I had. I rolled a 19, but I have plus zero. So.
Corey:Hey, all Right. Just add that real quick.
Lauren:Oh, It's. Hold on. 19.
Nick:19.
Corey:Okay. Perfect. Okay, this is what you see with that roll. You notice a couple things.
One, you look towards the, the floor of this room, and there's like, Once again, there's, there's a lot of pipes in here. Obviously this is where they run a lot of what they're doing at the dmv. You notice one of the pipes is actually busted.
And there's instead of, it's, it's leaking water. But interestingly enough, instead of the water just leaking onto the floor, you see that the water, as it comes out the pipe, it actually.
And it hits the ceiling.
Lauren:Who was in charge of that rule?
Nick:I'm weirdly proud. I'm like, I'm proud that this happened.
Nathan:Does Walter usually go up? Stop trying to remember, but let me.
Lauren:Go ask the wizard. The hot wizard.
Nick:Elui looks at it very confused.
Corey:Yeah.
Nick:And he, he again strokes his beard. Yeah.
Corey:In your memory, you've never seen anything like this.
And as it goes up and like hits the ceiling, it starts to kind of spread out, you know, like it wouldn't on the floor, but it's up on the ceiling spreading out. And then as it kind of gets thinner as it spreads, you see some of it dropping back down to the floor.
And then as it builds up, the droplets go back up. It's kind of got this up, down situation going on in this contained room. So that's one of the things you notice. Another thing.
You notice something that catches your eye in one of the corners. You see it looks like a. From your memories that are slowly coming back and just things that you're starting to recognize as objects and stuff.
It looks like a plushie dog toy on the floor.
Lauren:Well, I'm, I don't know anything about that with this world. So I'm just gonna go towards it because I'm like, ooh.
Nick:Ooh.
Corey:As you go towards it, you reach down to pick this thing up. And right before you reach, you grab it, it begins to just shoot off. And it starts boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
Like hitting the walls and going crazy. The, the dog toy is. And then it falls to the ground again. Wow.
Lauren:Did you guys see that?
Nathan:Yeah, it was everywhere.
Lauren:I, I. What's that about?
Nick:Wow.
Lauren:Wowee.
Nathan:Small dog stump is not sure if it's real or not. Why did you do that? You start those dump.
Lauren:Are you talking to the dog?
Nick:So he, he's kind of just staring at stuff like, and he's like, what on the hell is Going through his brain, some people. And. And he just, like, walks over and picks it up.
Corey:All right, so you walk over to pick it up. The minute you go to touch it, same thing. It's beginning smacking everything and falling.
Lauren:Can I do. I don't have any bonus to this, but can I do, like, an arcana check?
Nick:Sure.
Corey:Roll. Let's see.
Lauren:Because I was like, there's something funky about this. And then I'm like. And then I roll 12.
Corey:12 something. Yeah. I mean, you get kind of a feeling.
I mean, you have really no magical sense about you, but it's kind of giving you both a creepy vibe, but also kind of like a. It's a cute vibe. You're kind of getting both from it. We'll say that with your guys.
Lauren:Cute and creepy.
Corey:But you also notice now it's starting to shake a little bit on the ground.
Nathan:Stump has an idea.
Lauren:Oh, boy.
Nathan:This is probably, like, really bad idea. Stump jumps on it. Like, one might jump on a live grenade in a war movie.
Nick:So, like, on your stomach, like, your arms out, legs completely in a complete.
Corey:You can jump on the grenade.
Nathan:Stomp. Stomp the dog.
Corey:Roll me a athletics check.
Nathan:Okay. I'm good at athletics.
Lauren:Oh, I am, too.
Nick:I'm.
Nathan:I'm an athlete. I'm a terrific athlete.
Nick:Wow.
Nathan:I got plus six.
Lauren:I have plus five.
Nick:Wow. You guys.
Nathan:It's an eight plus six, which is obviously 14 I got there.
Corey:Nice. Yeah, you. Are you gonna get, like, a running start and jump on it? Are you gonna sneak up?
Nathan:It's very dramatic.
Corey:Okay. Because it's kind of dramatic. It kind of gets taken off guard.
You run really fast, you jump, and this thing starts to, like, bolt away, but your weight lands on top of it.
Nick:Nice.
Corey:And the minute your weight lands on top of it, you feel this surge of, like, something go through this room, like a shock wave as you begin to just float up to the sky. And now this thing is shaking even more violently on the ground, and you see it begin to just, like, bounce and spin back and forth.
And eventually, you see a little ball of light come from it. And then another little ball of light and then another little ball of light as three little balls of light come from it.
And the light begins to dim, you notice three tiny metallic robot dogs that pop up. And as you say, how adorable.
Nick:Adorable. You hear.
Corey:Let's roll for initiative. Oh, no.
Nathan:Am I starting this fight floating?
Nick:Yep. Shoot.
Nathan:Decisions were made.
Lauren:Oh, man. Okay. I rolled a D20 on my tiny die. And then I've rolled, like, under 10 since then. So I rolled a five, but it's fine.
Nick:It's five. Okay. E is an eight. Eight. Okay.
Corey:He is an eight.
Nathan:I got an 11.
Corey:So the order is going to be the robot dogs and then it's going to be Stump, then it'll be Nick, then it'll be Lauren. So, yes, the robot dogs are gonna go first. They are. They popped out in the center of the room.
You all are kind of spread out a little bit from the nonsense that happens. Stump, you're still floating up a little bit. The first one. One is about 10ft from you. Easy. Well, they're all basically close to you.
So the first one is going to attack Easy. And you just hear a little from its little robotic body as it runs towards you. Think, think like a mini Doberman pincher.
Nathan:I. I was imagining like. Do you guys remember the eye dogs?
Corey:Yeah, there you go. Yeah. Imagine the eye dogs.
Lauren:How can you.
Corey:Those are pretty cool.
Lauren:It's not threatening, but we'll see.
Corey:We'll see. Ooh, 13 plus 4. 17 to your AC barely. So it hits you. So that is going to be. So you got hit for three points of chomp. Chomp damage.
E. You see one of these little guys also, it's coming right for your ankle. It's like right for your ankle. Ankle biter with a Nat 21st. DM. Nat 20.
Nathan:Are all of us gonna roll?
Nick:Natural 20s freaking ankle biters.
Lauren:Nick, you gotta roll one.
Corey:I forgot that I am gonna come up with special rules for nat 20s. But for now, for this episode, we're just gonna do double damage. So we'll just roll and then double the damage. So it's 1d6 plus 2.
So that's 4, so 8 damage.
Nick:Okay. So I'm gonna do deflect attack as a monk. Okay. Anytime I take damage, I get to roll a D10 10. And then I have a D10 plus seven to deflect. Awesome. One.
Corey:So you get deflect all eight.
Nick:So eight.
Corey:Okay. Well, because you have one plus seven. He said, right?
Nick:Yep.
Lauren:That's all you need, baby.
Nick:And so when that happens, I can actually redirect the bite. I'm gonna spend a key point or a focus point and then it's two unarmed strikes. Oh. But you have to do a dexterity saving throw of 12. Okay. Oh, yeah.
Stinking 18 wasted a focus point. The ankle biter got me.
Lauren:That was pretty awesome series of, you know, situation.
Nick:But you have another one.
Corey:I do have another little dog. Yep. This other dog is going to. Well, it's just actually just gonna sit there looking up. And just like that, Stump, because it can't really reach you.
So, Adren, Stump, you are up.
Nathan:Oh, down, boy. Down. Stump is going to enter a rage. He's very upset with these. With these dogs, and he. I don't know if he can reach or if maybe he can kind of like.
Corey:I will say you can use your movement to, like, grab one of the tubes on the wall and, like, pull yourself down.
Nathan:Okay, I'm gonna pull myself down to the dog and say, bad boy. I'm sorry about this. And he does an unarmed strike.
Nick:Cool.
Nathan:And I'm gonna do the damage version. So I make an attack roll against the creature, and on a hit, I deal one plus strength, bludgeoning damage. Okay, so I'm rolling a hit.
Corey:Got a five plus your strength.
Nathan:Modify strength, which is plus four. So that's nine.
Corey:Nine does not hit. I am sorry.
Nathan:Oh, he whiffs it.
Corey:He's a very small doggie. You're a big man. And he just can't quite.
Nathan:Stump swings, and now he's just, like, spinning barrel rolling in the air.
Corey:All right, E, you are up.
Nick:Okay, we are. E is gonna hit him with his hands. Because he's good with his hands, your whole thing. Yep. So we're gonna do an unarmed strike, and let's.
I guess we'll roll to hit here. And yeah, he's got a plus six to the unarmed strike. So 11 and six is 17.
Corey:That hits.
Nick:Oh, yoy. Okay. And on.
Lauren:What was that?
Nick:You know what that was? You know what it was? All right, we're on a 1D6 with the unarmed strike plus four here. And. All right, we're gonna go four plus four is eight damage.
Corey:Tell us how this little robotic dog just falls to pieces.
Nick:Oh, so elui does, like, this kind of this. Some of this weird, like, kung fu thing with his hand, like, cross over, back up to his ear, back down.
And then as he gets closer to the dog, the hand movements become, like, smaller and smaller. And then as soon as he gets right there, he just, like, flicks it with his middle finger.
Corey:And then you just see this thing, like, when you hit it, you're expecting, like, kind of the think of, like, really, like, thick metal, but it's almost like plastic metal. Like plastic. When you hit this, and it just, like, crumbles under your hand, do you giggle when it. Do you want to move around anywhere?
Are you going to stay where you're at?
Nick:Yeah, I would like to move closest to the next dog.
Corey:Cool. So that'd be. Yeah, right up next to easy, because that dog is right up next to easy from where you were at that.
So, speaking of easy, it is your turn.
Lauren:Oh, boy. Okay, so. So we don't have any of our weapons, so I have a hammer.
Corey:Yep. You can use a hammer as an improvised weapon, which would just be your strength because you're in a melee attack.
Lauren:Okay, so I'm just gonna be like, looky here, poochie. And then I take my hammer and.
Corey:Roll that and add your strength bonus 13. It hits roll 1d6, plus your strength modifier.
Lauren:Okay.
Corey:That's what I'm gonna give you for the hammer.
Lauren:Okay, so six.
Corey:Six. All right, tell us how this little plastic dog crumples and dies.
Lauren:I just. I'm not sure. It's so adorable, and I don't really want to hurt it, but it looks, you know, like, threatening, and so I just bonk right on the head.
And then it just.
Nathan:Just.
Nick:You just take the hammer and you just don't. Yeah, there it is. Right on the head.
Lauren:Yeah, on the noggin.
Corey:All right, it is now the last little puppy's turn. And it looks at you, murdering little puppy.
It looks at you, Stump, and, like, does the thing that the eye dog does where, like, puts his front paws out and does, like, the downward dog, like, kind of shaking its butt.
Nathan:Yeah.
Corey:And then it looks at you, and you see the mechanical eyes kind of, like, go up and, like, turn big, you know, it's like. And then it just, like, leaps out to bite you.
Lauren:Lift. Lift.
Corey:Oh, my gosh.
Nick:Wow.
Corey:That is a second at 20. I'm already rolling. He's got a way to die.
Lauren:Take that die away.
Nathan:I saw the way you rolled. That was suspicious.
Corey:Nick saw it. All right, so that is going to be two plus two is four. So eight damage, because it's double. So eight damage to you.
They're not very strong little critters.
Nathan:Trump's got some hit points. That's okay. And he's still spinning. And now the dog's biting him.
Corey:Yep. And now the dog's kind of spinning, and now the gravity is finally let go, and you now kind of gained your control, and you're back on the ground.
And, Stump, it is now your turn.
Nathan:Okay. Stump kind of steadies himself with his movement. So he stopped spinning, and he remembers the gorilla wrench.
He pulls it out, and he shows it to the dog, and he goes, gorilla.
Corey:Hey.
Nathan:Hey, boy, boy. Got something for you.
Nick:Hey.
Nathan:And he kind of gets his attention and throws it out of the room. Like, go get it, boy.
Corey:Okay.
Nick:Yeah.
Corey:So you throw it out the room and. Yeah, this little thing's like. It. It's like postures up and like, ears get. They, like, go up. Yeah. And it turns and you hear.
And it goes out the room towards it.
Nathan:We need that thing. Can someone get stomped down?
Corey:And since that thing has ran out of the room, we are now technically out of initiative.
Lauren:I jumped to try to reach, too.
Corey:Oh, no. I said. I said gravity. Already done. You're back on the ground.
Nathan:Okay, Stump plops.
Nick:Yep.
Corey:So after you've plopped and those little creatures ran away, you do notice that that dog toy that you jumped on is still in the room.
Nathan:Oh, okay.
Corey:So the dog toy still. So the lights came out of the dog toy turning those dogs, but now that dog toy is still sitting in the middle of the room.
And this time, like before, it was kind of like vibrating and moving, but now it just seems to be perfectly still.
Nathan:Okay.
Lauren:Do we need it?
Nathan:So I guess because it's not vibrating, maybe Stump could just try to pick it up.
Corey:Sure.
Nathan:Stump tries to pick it up.
Corey:Yeah, yeah. You pick this thing up and you squeeze. Doesn't make a squeaky noise. But the minute you pick it up and you're kind of looking at it.
Could you please roll me a DC12 constitution saving throw? No.
Nathan:Yes. Can I borrow your. Oh, that's the.
Nick:These are all you. If you want.
Corey:D20.
Nathan:That is a NAT one, sir.
Corey:NAT one.
Lauren:Okay, first one.
Corey:So this is what happens. You pick this up, and immediately you start to see a vision.
Nick:Oh.
Corey:As you pick this thing up, there's. It starts to vibrate in your hands. And then your mind just begins to be filled with space, like stars and galaxies.
And you see them just starting to swirl and move around, and it's very beautiful and expansive. And then it all seems to come together and fall, like, to this mass that's sitting in the middle of space.
And as it hits, you see these clouds, very puffy, very pillowy.
And then out of these clouds, you see this creature arrive with big pointed ears and, like, glistening furry skin shining and glimmering at light that is hitting it. You see a long tail curl from the back, and you see it begin to, like, lick its hands. And then it settles down for a nap.
And you see this, like, up in the clouds, and you're like, that really looks like a cat. Just like a shimmering cat in your mind. But you're not sure really who that is or what that is, but you See, it looks very peaceful and cute.
And then you see like half of its body, like long ways, like almost two tones. Like the left side of this cat is now that shimmering, beautiful stars color.
And the other half is now turned into this like dark, deranged, like oranges and reds. It's almost like it looks like a good and evil kind of situation.
Nathan:Okay.
Corey:This cat. And then you see it, like in your mind's eye. It looks like it's looking you right in the eyes. And you see it just stares right at you.
And in the distance you hear a. And you see this creature begin to turn tail and like float back up into the sky. And then your vision comes back.
Nathan:Oh, come back.
Corey:As you are holding this in your hands.
Nathan:Guys, I saw the most beautiful animal.
Nick:What happened? What did you see?
Nathan:Didn't you see it? It was in the ceiling.
Nick:No, there was nothing here.
Nathan:Stump, want to find this animal? It was chased away by some kind of barking noise.
Nick:Bark.
Nathan:Stop thinking. Figuring out what's going on here.
Lauren:What is it?
Nathan:All dogs are evil.
Nick:Well, that's a crazy thing to say.
Nathan:Something, perhaps. All dogs go to hell.
Nick:Now stop your blethering. That's not true.
Nathan:You didn't see what stumps are.
Nick:I'll forgive you that.
Nathan:But we got this thing. It. Stump was hoping it would squeak. But they don't squeak when Stump squeezes.
Corey:No, it did feel very funky in your hand, that's for sure.
Nathan:This is thing we supposed to get, right.
Nick:Well, it looks nice.
Nathan:This could be the lost and found item.
Nick:Oh, yes.
Corey:Oh, I forgot.
Nick:Back to the lab there.
Lauren:I forgot what we were doing.
Nick:Let's.
Lauren:Let's do that.
Nick:We need to take it to Finch.
Nathan:All right, let's go back. And Stump starts going the wrong way.
Lauren:No. And then. And I pull you. And then I try. I can't hold your hand, but like I just kind of tug on you to go the other way.
Nathan:Oh, yeah. Stump was, you know, going, right. Okay.
Corey:Okay, Perfect. Yeah. So you. They turn you around, you kind of begin to make your way back the way you all came in.
When you're walking back, Stump, you notice the thing starts to kind of pulse a little bit in your hand. Like you feel some weird energy coming from it. That's something you kind of notice. Very small.
But while you have your hand on it, it seems to like, not be shaking or anything, but you just feel kind of like a pulsing vibration coming from it occasionally.
Nathan:Okay.
Nick:Did you say. Does Easy say anything to Leester as we leave?
Nathan:Oh, yeah, we got to Walk by Leaster again.
Lauren:And I'm just like. Just like panting, but all you hear.
Corey:Is carry on there.
Nathan:So I was like, oh, the dog. Oh, that was.
Lauren:That was. Tells me.
Nathan:Oh, it sounded like another dog is kind of getting paranoid.
Corey:Yeah. So he. Leaster pays you no mind. He still got time left on his break. You know, he ain't doing any work he don't have have to do.
Lauren:That's a long break.
Corey:It is a long break.
Lauren:You know, I don't want to like call this, but, you know, he's probably somebody who can hear the auroras later on.
Corey:You don't know anything about the auroras.
Lauren:I'm saying that out of character.
Corey:Yeah, true, true.
Nick:Maybe.
Corey:Okay. Yeah. So you. So you're heading back to Finch.
Nick:Yep. So we go back to Finch and lead Stump the right way down the tubes.
Nathan:Thank you.
Nick:The tubular hallways and back out to the front holding the toy. The dog toy. The semi vibrating dog toy. Yeah.
Corey:So you. Yeah. Make your way down the hallways. You turn, you're heading back to get to the door.
Before you get to the door that leads back out to the lobby, Finch is already there, like behind the desk in that door. So that way you're not in the lobby when you return it. And he was just standing there kind of waiting. And he sees you, he's like, oh, oh, oh.
Nathan:Did.
Corey:Did you find it? Did you find it?
Nathan:Hello. We are back. We did it. It was so easy. Here you go. Nothing broken.
Corey:Oh, good, good, good, good.
Nick:I.
Lauren:What's the. What's the deal with Leaster?
Corey:Oh, did you meet Leaster in there? Yeah, he. He's basically. He's our handyman that works on things for us.
Lauren:Is he down to clown?
Corey:I'm not sure I know that phrase. I don't believe he works in the entertainment business. No.
Lauren:Okay.
Nick:He seemed to be a kind of wizard. That was a technician or something.
Corey:Oh, yes, yes. He uses magic. So in this world you'll find that most the magic users will. 99% of the magic users are wizards.
And so Leaster volunteers his duties to help us with fixing things. And he doesn't really have to get his hands dirty because he knows magic.
Nick:But he works at will. He's not a clown, does he? He's not in a circus.
Corey:He is not a clown or a circus. He does not fall down on the ground. Know.
Lauren:And I just like. Like you guys don't know. You don't know. Talking about.
Corey:Well, can I see it? Did you find it? Please can I see it?
Nathan:Oh, of Course. But, you know, I show you the prize, you show me the donuts.
Corey:Again with donuts. We don't. I mean, our world is shaped like a donut, but we don't have donuts.
Nathan:Stop. Losing his mind.
Corey:Stop.
Nathan:Stump, hear all this talk about donuts. And there has not been a single donut for. Stop.
Corey:There's. There's been one Talk of donut, and that's just the shape of the world.
Nick:The planet, man.
Corey:The planet. Eat the planet. You're on the planet.
Nathan:What?
Corey:And he hands you a box. He hands you a box that's like this box that you see, it has got some thick bars around it and it's got some really small runes kind of built around.
He's like, please put that in this box.
Nathan:All right. Stump puts it in the box and.
Corey:He closes it and he like latches it. And you see him put this lock in there. He's like twisting these numbers that go around. He's like, oh. Oh, thank goodness. Okay.
Nick:Wow. I'll get this.
Corey:I'll get this put back in the library. Oh, goodness. The library.
Yes, we have a library of that we also call our lost and found is just where we find matters of importance and store them there. Thank you so much for retrieving this. Oh, thank you. Oh. Oh, I guess a matter of payments, correct?
Nick:Aye, the payment. That's great.
Corey:He looks, he pulls out his clipboard. He's like. He marks on there. Cleared for identities.
Nick:Well, thank you very much.
Corey:And he gives you. Let me see. Make sure I got this right. Yi Louis, correct?
Nick:Aye, that's correct.
Corey:You are a dwarf. Yes. And you call yourself a monk. Aye, that's correct, Sir Stump. Yes, correct. Okay, you are. You are. Your people are known as Goliaths, correct?
Nathan:This is true.
Corey:Okay. And you are from a clan of barbarians.
Nathan:Yes.
Corey:Okay.
Nathan:Uh huh.
Corey:Okay. He just begins writing down Ms. Esmeralda fits in a monster.
Lauren:Fits. Oh, goodness. Finch. No, it is Fitz monster.
Corey:Fitz monster. Fitz monster. Okay, okay. Opposite, opposite. Got it. And. And he. He looks at you. He's like. And you are halfling, correct?
Lauren:That is correct.
Corey:Halfling. And you're a brawler, a fighter. Fighter.
Lauren:And then I. And then I wink.
Corey:Don't know what that means. You have an itch. Is your eye itch?
Lauren:Nobody understands me.
Corey:Okay, so writes it down. Okay? You are all now cleared. You're in the system. You are in the system now, so don't have to worry about that. Which means you can actually leave.
And he hands you all a voucher. He says, these vouchers are payment. That is the currency in cindo is vouchers. You can use these vouchers.
We basically we work on the trade system, the barter system. So, so you get paper vouchers. You can turn these in for things. It's like your currency. You trade it for items like donuts.
Nathan:So how many donuts could Stump gets with this voucher?
Corey:I don't know what a donut is. I know what the shape of a donut is.
Nathan:Hold on. Can you imagine an apple?
Corey:Yes.
Nathan:Make it a donut. That's what Stump wants.
Nick:Okay.
Corey:Maybe out in the world you can find somebody who makes those. But yeah, these vouchers you can use to trade with people. That's how our money system works. Also.
Are you all going to want a gravity subscription or are you just going to take your chances out there? A what?
Nick:A gravity description.
Corey:Oh, I forget, sorry. Oh, I still haven't told you everything.
Okay, so the way Sandeo works is, well, if you want gravity to like, you know, ground you and not just be floating and bouncing periodically, you're gonna have to pay a subscription.
Nick:Fe.
Corey:It costs one voucher per week and that it basically gives you gravity.
Nick:And if refuse the gravity, oh, you.
Corey:Can, you can leave, but you're just gonna float and hop around and you know. But if you make it to cities and villages, a lot of times they pay for like a, a town wide subscription. And so the town kind of pitches.
It's almost like taxes. Your taxes will pay for the town to have gravity. So the towns have gravity.
But when you're out and about and traveling, you're probably gonna want some gravity.
Nick:I'll, I'll take the blimey subscription for gravity. It sounds.
Corey:It's just one voucher. It'll last you a week. Who else would like a subscription?
Lauren:We do like a family pack.
Corey:No, we can only do town packs. And you have to speak with the mayor and then the mayor puts in the order. It's a whole thing.
Nick:What a regular Maru it is. Yes. I'll take the, I'll take one.
Corey:Okay. Anybody else?
Nathan:Well, I mean if one of us want to save some money, we do have that rope.
Corey:That is true.
Lauren:Okay, I'll, I'll save money.
Nathan:You want to save money and be a balloon again?
Lauren:Yeah, and then I'll just like wrap myself like with plush so when I crash, like it won't hurt as bad as bad.
Corey:Okay, so two. We're paying for two.
Nathan:So we pay this guy for it.
Corey:Yeah. Okay.
Nathan:Yeah. Stump.
Corey:Yeah. Any dmv they're the ones who handle the gravity subscription.
Nathan:Gotcha. Okay.
Lauren:Yeah.
Nathan:Stump would like to pay. Pay for some gravity.
Nick:And he pays one voucher for.
Corey:Okay, awesome. He like turns to the side and flips down this like pop out desk and reaches in. He grabs two rings. He gives you a ring. He gives you a ring.
Nathan:Thank you.
Corey:And then he takes out a room from his back pocket. He says, oh, first I need to voucher each, please.
Nathan:Oh, there you go.
Corey:So the ones he just gave you, you gave back. And he takes this rune and he waves it over your ring. And he waves it over your ring ring and it lights up.
Nick:Oh.
Corey:So your ring is like. He says when your ring begins to dim, you'll know what you're due for a new subscription. Okay. Now this will keep you grounded.
Yeah, it'll keep you grounded. It lasts for a week. And as it dims, you mean. You just need to find a dmv. We'll recharge it for you.
Also, just so you know, you have been assigned a starter home. You know, you all can share it. For the time being, it is just a home for the three of you to stay until you get your bearings.
You can go your separate ways. After that you can do whatever you need. Your starter location is going to be in the outer rim, which is where we are.
We are in the outer rim right now. We are all sitting in the Verdan grove, is the area of the outer rim that we are in.
And you all are being assigned a home still in the outer rim, which is nice, but you will actually be in the Whiskerlands Whisker then grow and the whisker. Yep, the Whiskerlands. It is.
Nick:It is.
Corey:Honestly, it's about a four days journey to get to the Whiskerlands from here. You are going to be living in a town called Tumbville. Tumbville in the Whiskerlands.
Nick:Yep.
Corey:It was a four days journey.
Nathan:This house stump a little bit bigger than these guys.
Corey:It is a normal sized house. You will fit. Yes, we looked into it.
Nathan:I made normal size. You say great. Everything always normal size.
Corey:And you will be able to say now it. Like I said, it is a four days journey. It is a little. For new people, it is a little undertaking to go out into the world. It is scary.
It can be overwhelming. You are more than welcome to hang out here as you get your bearings or. I mean, we do offer the hydro tube system.
The hydro tube system is our interconnected dmv. Like they go to all the towns and major cities and it'll get you, it'll get you a four day journey in like three hours.
Nick:Let me guess, it's going to be another voucher.
Corey:It's, it's technically three vouchers per rider.
Nick:Oh, I know it.
Corey:I knew it. It is three vouchers per rider to ride the hydro tubes. And they basically the DMVs are all the hydro tube stations. So that is an option.
You could stay and do some jobs and, you know, earn some vouchers.
Nick:And how many vouchers were we getting?
Corey:You were given one each for completing and now you're down zero.
Lauren:So you already.
Corey:But you are in the system. You're in the system now and you can actually leave the dmv.
Nick:Oh great. Now we can leave.
Corey:So you can travel for four days or you can take the hydro.
Lauren:If we work at the dmv, can we get a discount?
Corey:No one works at the dmv. Except the axioms.
Nick:Are there other jobs we can do for vouchers?
Corey:Yeah, the job board. You can do the tier quests or.
Nick:We just can go on foot.
Corey:You say yeah, you can go on foot. It's a four days journey.
You can pick up jobs at any DMV station if you want to earn vouchers or you can work for literally anybody in Sendaio and they'll give you like half vouchers or quarter vouchers. DMV pays out the highest vouchers depending on the tier jobs you do.
So you can stay here, work and work enough to make enough vouchers to take the hydro tube or you can, you know, walk for four days. It's totally up to you.
Lauren:Do you know of any, like, issues with counterfeit vouchers?
Corey:Like you can't fake the vouchers. The way our system works, like they're very, very high tech and no one really knows how to duplicate them. So.
Okay, we've got a one up on everybody on that.
Lauren:I just wanted to make sure.
Corey:There was one guy that came in one time and it said this is a voucher on a piece of paper and we didn't take it.
Lauren:Oh, okay.
Corey:Yeah.
Nick:Did you hear that?
Nathan:He tried. He tried.
Corey:He did try.
Nathan:It sounds like good idea.
Corey:But you're gonna love your, your home in the Whiskerlands. It is very beautiful. It's very colorful. Especially in Tomville. Everyone's super nice. I've been there a couple times myself. I've really enjoyed it.
It is one of the safer areas in the outer rim. Like just Remember the outer rim, Very safe. Inner rim, a little sketchy.
I wouldn't really go there until really, there's really no reason to go there. That's where a lot of the wizard sex live and wizard sex sex. Oh, I'm there. So it gets. It can be a little sketchy down there.
Yeah, definitely stay away from the center of Sendo. Do not go there. Trust me. Ever. So, yeah, those are your options. What would you all like to do?
Lauren:Please keep an eye on me as I might levitate.
Nathan:Oh yeah. So Stump ties the rope around Fitz. Fitz Mon.
Lauren:Like a leash.
Nathan:Yeah. And it's like, all right, here we go.
Lauren:Okay, hold.
Nathan:Hold on.
Lauren:Okay.
Nathan:Going to be all right.
Nick:What are we going to do, you guys?
Corey:Are we take the trip by first.
Nick:Looking to go do some work? I mean, I kind of feel the S5 challenge is calling her name. Yeah, I, I kind of like the idea of let's do it. Let's do an S4 or.
Unless we're like, are we trying to. Are we trying to push S1 and.
Nathan:And I mean S3?
Nick:Then I don't know.
Corey:You hear behind you, coming up to Finch, you see one of the axioms come and you. You've kind of gathered because you called them axioms like axiom number 30. Axiom number 31. Those are the. So they're.
They're t. Technically war forged creatures.
Nathan:Okay.
Corey:So which means they've been crafted, you know, and they're like metallic and they were originally made for war, but these ones are made for doing, you know, civic duty.
Nathan:That's so funny that the word robots are in a dmv.
Nick:That's. Yep.
Corey:He comes over, he says, we were able to recreate from their past memories their clothing and their weapons.
Lauren:Oh my goodness.
Corey:And you see them like holding these bundles. They give one to E. They give one to Easy and then they give one to Stump. And you have to.
Nathan:Stump is just like a piece of cloth.
Corey:He's like, oh, you were naked this whole time?
Nathan:Well, Stump doesn't wear armor. He wears kind of like a. Yeah.
Corey:Barbarians don't wear armor. So technically, yeah, they were recreated. They were able to get your weapons and they've handed that to you now that you're in the system.
They're like, this is what they had recreated from their memories. And now you have your starter weapons. You're. If you're wearing armor, you have armor now. So you've kind of equipped back up.
Nathan:Would. Would now be a good time to look at our options on the job board?
Corey:Yeah, you certainly can.
Nathan:Okay, is there anything that pays three vouch.
Corey:So when you move up to the job board, you notice that, okay, you see tier one, tier two, tier three to 45. And they see all the spheres. As each of you walk up to it, they're all lit up. But as you get closer and walk, you see the tier five disappear.
Four disappear, three disappear, Two disappear. Yeah, you only see one light up on the tier one, we're being funneled. And Finch looks at you. He's like, oh, I forgot to mention, you can't just.
Just go for the biggest. You have to kind of work your way. So typically. Typically after you've completed about three tier one jobs, then your options open up some more.
Nick:So E wants to look for the highest voucher paid. Tier one job.
Corey:Yep. You look at it, and you're expecting. Like, you don't really know what to expect. Like, it's going to give me my options.
It really only gives you one option right now. And it still says beginner tier. It says beginner tier on it, and it says tier one adventure. Unauthorized lawn. Whoa.
Nick:And. Oh, you say unauthorized.
Corey:Unauthorized lawn. What does that mean?
Nick:Okay.
Corey:And it tells you it is one day's travel away. It is a civil infraction, okay? In the verdant sprawl, which is where we are, threat level low.
Nick:Okay?
Corey:Pay is a stipend, which is two.
Nick:Two.
Corey:So it means you get two each.
Nick:Two vouchers.
Corey:You have two vouchers each. You will earn reputation, and you will get a stamp of approval.
Lauren:I gotta get that stamp.
Nick:We gotta do this.
Lauren:Oh, my gosh.
Nick:You're not so concerned about all the others, Just the stamp of approval.
Lauren:I need to redeem my past life.
Corey:You're like, okay, okay, we're gonna take this job. You give it to Finch. Finch is like, oh, okay, this should actually be a good try. So you're gonna stay here and earn some vouchers and. Okay, perfect.
I tell you what, we even. You can even sleep in some of these chairs, you know, while you're earning some jobs. It's. This has happened before. It's totally. Okay.
And you see him wave his hand on the side of the building. So the door where you all went in before, behind the. Was to, like, the tunnels.
But he waves his hand, and a door actually, like, appears in the metal sidewall, and the doors open into, like, a hatch. There's, like, another set of doors. You all walk through that first set of doors.
The hatch behind you close, closes, and then the doors open as the doors of the DMV slide open. You step out into Sendaio for the first time, and the world immediately feels too large to be real.
The ground curves gently away from you in both directions, as if the land itself is bending around something vast.
While above, a brilliant blue sky stretches endlessly stitched with towering puffy clouds and shimmering, murmuring auroras that whisper just beyond comprehension. You see water flowing upward from distant fountains and gutters, rising in graceful streams before vanishing into the air.
And far off, you can see forests so lush they seem to be swallowed entirely by hills. The grass around here also is so lush and tall and unkempt, it nearly covers E. And easy by how high it is.
You see a river that runs under the DMV with an entry and exit point. The water from this river flows upwards into a tube structure that has been built directly over the water, catching the water as it rises.
The tube follows the entire river and goes on as far as the eye can see. Inside the tube, you see what appears to be a transportation craft with someone climbing aboard.
And in an instant, a whooshing sound of air catches your attention. Attention as it pushes the vessel through the tube and its rider vanishes at a high speed through its system.
And as you all begin to, like, walk towards your next tier, and you're like, whoa. Taking this all in behind you, you hear Finch. He runs out, kind of breathless. He's like, wait, hold on. I'm glad I caught you really quick.
One last thing. This job that you all just did, and this one here, it wasn't actually supposed to go to anomalies.
Someone down in the system flagged you specifically. I think someone might be watching you. Quest happens is Nick Jackson as Eloi. Lauren Keller as Esmeralda Fitzmonster. Nathan Guidry as Stump.
And I am your dungeon master, Corey Keller. Catch us every other Thursday as a new episode drops and we'll see you in the next adventure.
Nathan:Oh, guys, remember. You remember Wife Swap? We don't have to put this in the show. Do you remember that show?
Lauren:I.
So when Corey and I first got married, you can come all this out, but when Cory and I first got married, we didn't have cable and we didn't really have. There wasn't any streaming services, really. So I watched daytime television. So I watched Weiss Walker.
Nathan:Yeah, what a wild show.
