Shownotes

In this episode, I want to talk about how our emotions help us tune into what’s next for us. If you’re new to money mindset work, maybe you’ve read a couple books and decide to get your money straight, right? But, maybe you’re avoiding tax or bill collector calls or letting bills pile up unopened. Are you telling yourself you’re not good with money?  That right there can keep you from making progress.

Emotions like anger and jealousy can actually tell you what it is you really desire and what you need to work on next. Emotions are there to protect you and they’re not bad, but you can’t stay in that space. We all have some trauma that is shaping your worldview and emotions are an indicator of where you need support.

Pay attention to your emotions this week.  On social media, what posts are giving you joy and which posts are causing you to question yourself or feel a certain way?  That’s where the work is.

Melisa Alaba:

Welcome.

Melisa Alaba:

Welcome.

Melisa Alaba:

Welcome.

Melisa Alaba:

Welcome to the Richmond where you podcast.

Melisa Alaba:

I'm your host, Melissa Alva.

Melisa Alaba:

Wow.

Melisa Alaba:

So time is just moving you guys, and I know this is your season to get

Melisa Alaba:

all the things that you desire today.

Melisa Alaba:

I really just wanted to talk to you.

Melisa Alaba:

About our emotions, you know, and how our emotions really help us

Melisa Alaba:

tune into what is next for us and the thing that we need to work on.

Melisa Alaba:

Right.

Melisa Alaba:

So, so many times when we think about money, especially folks who.

Melisa Alaba:

I haven't been known and money mindset.

Melisa Alaba:

You're new to this whole thing of like money mindset.

Melisa Alaba:

Like what's that you may have read a book, maybe you've, you know, you've

Melisa Alaba:

gone through Dave Ramsey's stuff.

Melisa Alaba:

You looked at Susie Orman, you know, every year.

Melisa Alaba:

You get in a year, middle of the year.

Melisa Alaba:

You're like, I'm going to get my money.

Melisa Alaba:

Right.

Melisa Alaba:

I'm going to get my money tight, but you have some behaviors, right?

Melisa Alaba:

You got some stuff going on.

Melisa Alaba:

Mail is coming in.

Melisa Alaba:

You ain't opening anything.

Melisa Alaba:

You don't even know what that looks like.

Melisa Alaba:

Bills are coming.

Melisa Alaba:

You have no idea what that looks like.

Melisa Alaba:

Same thing.

Melisa Alaba:

Like what your taxes have a debt collector or someone calls you.

Melisa Alaba:

You don't answer the phone.

Melisa Alaba:

You avoid that, but on social media, you may show up pretty amazing, right?

Melisa Alaba:

In your work.

Melisa Alaba:

You've probably just amazing.

Melisa Alaba:

And people love to have you around and everyone gravitates to you, but you have

Melisa Alaba:

this, this, the secret where you are just feeling like you're not good with.

Melisa Alaba:

And there are other people that are good with money, but you are not

Melisa Alaba:

that person they're good with money.

Melisa Alaba:

And sometimes your emotions get in the way of you literally

Melisa Alaba:

making progress in this area.

Melisa Alaba:

So I see a lot of folks, sometimes one of the things that they share

Melisa Alaba:

with me, like in my DMS, and my emails and even on calls is anger.

Melisa Alaba:

You feel angry and mad and even sometimes envious of other people who look like

Melisa Alaba:

they have their money story together or do have their money story together.

Melisa Alaba:

Right.

Melisa Alaba:

And you're seeing them going to trips, you're seeing them purchase

Melisa Alaba:

the things that you really desire or have the business that you really

Melisa Alaba:

desire, but you're feeling stuck.

Melisa Alaba:

I want you to know emotions, they're there to protect us.

Melisa Alaba:

They are also there to share with us and give us indicators of what our

Melisa Alaba:

next thing is that we need to work on.

Melisa Alaba:

So emotions are not bad.

Melisa Alaba:

Feeling envy is not bad.

Melisa Alaba:

What that does, or what that says is that that is something you actually desire.

Melisa Alaba:

Now, what we want to do is not stay in that space.

Melisa Alaba:

We definitely don't want to stay in this space of being envious or, or

Melisa Alaba:

even angry because something hasn't happened or maybe it did happen.

Melisa Alaba:

Maybe you did have the home.

Melisa Alaba:

Maybe you did have the business.

Melisa Alaba:

Maybe you did have the car, whatever the case, and you lost it because of life

Melisa Alaba:

circumstance, you know, that economy, loss of job lost of husband or spouse.

Melisa Alaba:

You know, for all my LBGTQ people out there, loss of self I've,

Melisa Alaba:

met people where they thought they were on one trajectory.

Melisa Alaba:

And then all of a sudden they just totally got burnt out with

Melisa Alaba:

the words that they were doing.

Melisa Alaba:

And so you're feeling like why hasn't it happened for me, you know?

Melisa Alaba:

And I also have women in my life who are multimillionaires and are free to leave

Melisa Alaba:

their job because again, the fear is.

Melisa Alaba:

I have this money saved up, but what if something happens?

Melisa Alaba:

So usually we have, you know, some trout hood trauma, some trauma that

Melisa Alaba:

happened in a relationship, some trauma that happened in the life circumstance

Melisa Alaba:

that now is shaping your world view.

Melisa Alaba:

And in that it is also now shaping how you live your life.

Melisa Alaba:

So.

Melisa Alaba:

Emotions are indicator as to where you need support and where you need help.

Melisa Alaba:

I want you to pay attention to your emotions this week.

Melisa Alaba:

Pay attention to how you feel when you go on social media, pay attention to

Melisa Alaba:

what posts give you joy and what posts cause you to either question yourself

Melisa Alaba:

or feel a certain way.

Melisa Alaba:

There is work to be done when you see that.

Melisa Alaba:

Even in everyday conversations with like a friend or a spouse or,

Melisa Alaba:

you know thoughts that come up or readings it's work to be there.

Melisa Alaba:

You're being triggered in certain areas because his work to be there,

Melisa Alaba:

I'm often sharing with my clients.

Melisa Alaba:

when we dig deep and we're doing money mindset work, we're breaking

Melisa Alaba:

through emotional barriers.

Melisa Alaba:

We're doing deep healing work as well.

Melisa Alaba:

It's not just one area.

Melisa Alaba:

Healing and different areas of your life allows for you to

Melisa Alaba:

have more flow in your money.

Melisa Alaba:

So again, one of my biggest prescriptions is less decluttered your emotions.

Melisa Alaba:

Let's declutter your emotions.

Melisa Alaba:

And it's one of my favorite exercises to do with my clients.

Melisa Alaba:

Let's look at an emotion that's coming up for you, and let's walk

Melisa Alaba:

back through that and see how it's affecting you and your money.

Melisa Alaba:

You know, so loneliness is an emotion and can definitely affect

Melisa Alaba:

how you show up in your money.

Melisa Alaba:

Feeling disappointed, like you're not getting what you desire or you never

Melisa Alaba:

get what you desire is an emotion and can show up how you spend money, how you

Melisa Alaba:

earn money, how you make money and how you show up in your business, you know.

Melisa Alaba:

Feeling shame, you know?

Melisa Alaba:

So if you feel shame or you feel unworthy, you tend to be a person

Melisa Alaba:

that may hide in your business.

Melisa Alaba:

So you're doing all the things to beautify the business on

Melisa Alaba:

the outside, but you literally.

Melisa Alaba:

Physically are not showing up.

Melisa Alaba:

Right?

Melisa Alaba:

You are showing up pretty on your website, but you're not showing up in public.

Melisa Alaba:

You're not showing up with your clients.

Melisa Alaba:

You're not showing up with your deliverables.

Melisa Alaba:

You're not showing up to ask for the sale, you know, at work you're not showing up.

Melisa Alaba:

You're you look good?

Melisa Alaba:

Girl, you look good.

Melisa Alaba:

I see you got that lip gloss on is popping.

Melisa Alaba:

Hair is done, but you haven't done a continuing ed class in years.

Melisa Alaba:

You have an Uplevel.

Melisa Alaba:

It's your yourself.

Melisa Alaba:

And.

Melisa Alaba:

In terms of your learning, you haven't, up-leveled your prices

Melisa Alaba:

in years, because again, you know, you really haven't fully showed up.

Melisa Alaba:

You've kind of done the minimal just to kind of keep going,

Melisa Alaba:

but yet you're powerful yet.

Melisa Alaba:

You're amazing.

Melisa Alaba:

And you're ready for an up level.

Melisa Alaba:

So a lot of times what I see when that happens is again, amazing person.

Melisa Alaba:

Amazing boss person, but needs to now decode these emotions and

Melisa Alaba:

do some healing work around it so we can get to the next level.

Melisa Alaba:

So that's it.

Melisa Alaba:

I want you guys to this week, get your journal out and let's ask the question.

Melisa Alaba:

What emotions do I need to declutter what is happening here?

Melisa Alaba:

That is holding me back, back from my money back from life

Melisa Alaba:

experiences, back from me living the life that I truly desire.

Melisa Alaba:

All right.

Melisa Alaba:

I love you guys.

Melisa Alaba:

Go out and have a rich and worthy life and I'll talk to you soon.
