PhD. Registered nurse. Former financial services professional. Denise Hancock walked three careers before she stopped pretending astrology wasn't calling her name. Born in rural Oklahoma with a fundamentalist mother and an atheist father who made her go to church anyway. She's been studying since 2001 — waxed and waned through nursing school, graduate programs, and Hurricane Katrina — and two years ago she started seeing clients. She runs the New Orleans Astrology Meetup and edits The Evolving Astrologer magazine. Capricorn rising, Capricorn Moon, Venus in Scorpio in detriment, Mercury the favorite. Traditional foundation, modern flex depending on what the client needs. We cover Neptune, the midlife transit sequence, fate versus free will, medical astrology, house systems, whether money buys happiness, and what the chart can and cannot tell you about a person. Know thyself. Balance your energy.

TAKEAWAYS

1. Denise holds a PhD in nursing education and spent a decade in financial services before committing fully to astrology — the chart was threading through every career chapter the whole time.
2. She uses whole sign houses for natal work and Regiomontanus for horary and electional astrology, following William Lilly's 17th-century method from Christian Astrology.
3. Traditional astrology describes external events that arrive regardless of mindset — modern centers the psychology. She reads from traditional foundations and translates into modern language based on what the client needs.
4. The midlife crisis is three transits in sequence — Pluto square Pluto destroys what isn't working, Neptune square Neptune brings the fog or the fantasy, Uranus opposition Uranus says you're free now.
5. Neptune is not the higher octave of Venus — it's Jupiter with no boundaries. Rose-colored glasses or beer goggles. Same lens, different dose.
