Shownotes
The nutraceutical industry is a strange place for a business to operate in some ways; the convergence of medicine, food and technology creates a battleground in which food and pharma companies compete for dominance of the sector.
Food companies have strong expertise in large-scale manufacturing and global logistics that reach into the mass market, but their research expertise is lacking compared to the pharmaceuticals industry. At the same time, the two markets are presumed to focus on different things: it can be said nutra focuses on wellness, while pharma deals with illness. However, it certainly seems the distinction between the two is starting to blur; recorded live at Vitafoods Europe 2018, Pierre-Albert Thomas, Global Technical Director, Rousselot, joins us to agree and discuss the business potential for pharma companies looking at nutra models, and the future of the nutraceuticals industry.
