Speaker:

Welcome back to another edition

of the daily Bible podcast.

2

:

Today is Saturday, June 22nd, 2024.

3

:

And we're looking at two chapters.

4

:

In fact, we're concluding

the book of Proverbs.

5

:

We're looking at chapters 30 and 31.

6

:

So let's jump on in.

7

:

Starting Proverbs chapter 30.

8

:

This chapter is written by a guy

named Agger Agur, the son of Jacka.

9

:

The Oracle.

10

:

No clue who he is.

11

:

And I suspect that it didn't really

matter because his words are preserved.

12

:

Even if we know nothing about him,

there's a few places where this is like,

13

:

in fact, our next chapter that we're

going to look at is similar situation.

14

:

Let's pick out a couple of these here

that might prove helpful . Uh, first let's

15

:

take a look at this verses five and six.

16

:

Every word of God proves true.

17

:

He has a shield to those who take refuge

in him, do not add to his words, lest

18

:

he rebuke you and you be found a liar.

19

:

So good that you're in the Bible

because this is the only place where

20

:

the Christian can find true words.

21

:

And then not to say that

there's not truth out there.

22

:

We're looking at the

absoluteness of God's word.

23

:

It's true.

24

:

Absolutely.

25

:

That means we can always rely on it.

26

:

It is proven true over and over again.

27

:

Now, this doesn't mean that we can't

get some things wrong about it.

28

:

If the word of God were in any way to be

disproven and I'm using air quotes here.

29

:

It would not mean that

God's word is wrong.

30

:

It means that we were

wrong and understanding it.

31

:

If that were to happen.

32

:

I think about the heliocentric

nature of the universe.

33

:

And how at one point in time, people

thought, well, the earth is the

34

:

center of the universe, obviously.

35

:

It's God's special creation to house.

36

:

His special creation called man.

37

:

And for a long time, that was

the prevailing wisdom and it.

38

:

It was apparently obvious

to those who read the Bible.

39

:

Of course has proved not to be true.

40

:

We now know that the universe does

not revolve around the earth, but

41

:

the earth revolves around the sun.

42

:

And so the word of God proved true,

even though we misunderstood it.

43

:

This is often what's at heart.

44

:

When we're reading the Bible,

we read it wrong, then it's us.

45

:

That's wrong.

46

:

Not the word of God.

47

:

So be sure as you read the Bible that

you believe the Bible, but also make

48

:

sure that you're understanding it.

49

:

Rightly that's a big part

of the equation here.

50

:

Anger goes on and he talks about

moderation and contentment.

51

:

Um, he asks something that I wonder

if any of you guys have ever asked

52

:

God, he says this in verse seven.

53

:

Two things they ask of

you did that deny them?

54

:

Not to me before I die.

55

:

Remove it far from me, falsehood and lion.

56

:

Give me neither poverty nor riches.

57

:

Feed me with a food that is needful

for me, lest I be full and deny you.

58

:

And say, who is the Lord or less IB, poor

and steal and profane the name of my God.

59

:

He prays that he not have

too much or too little.

60

:

I want to have just enough.

61

:

God, don't give me more

than my soul can handle.

62

:

Don't give me the less

than my soul can handle.

63

:

That's a very contrarian prayer for today.

64

:

And I think it might be good for

us to say something similar to God.

65

:

Words of agric continue on here.

66

:

And perhaps one of the

best places to stop here.

67

:

I.

68

:

I mean, I like this.

69

:

It's not one of the beds.

70

:

One of my favorites.

71

:

In verses 18 through 20.

72

:

Let me just stick with verses 18 and 19.

73

:

Three things are too wonderful for me.

74

:

For, I do not understand the

way of an Eagle in the sky,

75

:

the way of a serpent on a rock.

76

:

The way of a ship on the high seas

and the way of a man with a Virgin.

77

:

Okay.

78

:

The last one, I think you can but

I think the general gist of this

79

:

is keeping that sense of wonder.

80

:

Knowing how good it is to live

and to breathe and to have life.

81

:

Life is wonderful.

82

:

It is full of wonder.

83

:

If we have eyes simply to see it.

84

:

Wisdom gives us the ability to see the

world with wonder and to appreciate.

85

:

The beauty and the depth.

86

:

And the intrinsic nature of the way

that God has designed the world to work.

87

:

If you just think about it for a few

moments, it ought to excite your heart

88

:

with wonder, and that's a good thing.

89

:

Chapter 30, a Proverbs, lots of good

things that Agora has to say to us.

90

:

And I hope one of them or two of them,

or several of them stood out to you.

91

:

Let's look at Proverbs 31.

92

:

This proverb is written by king Lemuel

under the influence of his mother.

93

:

What a good thing that is.

94

:

If you have a mom, praise God for that.

95

:

That the customer for all of us.

96

:

Now make sure.

97

:

You respect mom.

98

:

In fact, we're going to talk about

mom and a few moments here, and we

99

:

may get to the end of the chapter, but

let's start with the beginning here.

100

:

The words of king Lemuel, an Oracle.

101

:

That his mother taught him.

102

:

And here's what she says.

103

:

This is incredibly wise, verse four.

104

:

It is not for Kings Ola mule.

105

:

It is not for Kings to drink wine or

for rulers to take a strong drink.

106

:

And she gives a reason why.

107

:

Lest they drink and forget

what has been decreed.

108

:

And pervert the rights

of all the afflicted.

109

:

Give strong drink to the one

who was perishing and give wine

110

:

to those in bitter distress.

111

:

Let them drink and forget their poverty.

112

:

And remember their misery no more.

113

:

So she's saying, look.

114

:

It is good for leaders to know

righteousness and justice and

115

:

not have anything hinder that.

116

:

They ought to be sober minded.

117

:

So that they can decree

what is right and good.

118

:

If someone's perishing someone's on the,

on their way out, let them have the thing

119

:

that helps them forget their sorrows.

120

:

Let them have the morphine, let

them have the painkilling drugs.

121

:

And this is why I think the end of

life situation, if you're in pain and

122

:

you're on your way out, man, that's

a time to take advantage of all

123

:

that medical science has afforded us.

124

:

We should take advantage of those

things, but if you're a Christian.

125

:

Being sober-minded is the right way to go.

126

:

It doesn't mean you can't indulge in, you

know, NyQuil, if you're having some kind

127

:

of sickness that you can't deal with.

128

:

But by and large.

129

:

Christians are known to

be sober-minded people.

130

:

Paul says in the new Testament,

do not be drunk with wine,

131

:

but be filled with the spirit.

132

:

And the spirit gives us a silver

mindedness that is so important for

133

:

us to navigate the world around us.

134

:

Those are good words from

king Lemuel, his mom.

135

:

Well, the rest of chapter 31 continues

with a prolonged expression of praise

136

:

for a woman who fears the Lord.

137

:

And this is often brought a lot of

pain to a lot of women, because it

138

:

seems like this woman is a superhero.

139

:

She's up early and she goes to bed late.

140

:

She doesn't sleep.

141

:

Apparently she does it all.

142

:

I don't think that's the point.

143

:

What you have here is a picture.

144

:

Have a godly woman, a woman who

lives up to the call of God, on

145

:

her life and in different seasons

of her life, she's doing different

146

:

things depending on where she's at.

147

:

I wonder with a newborn in the home,

it's not going to be as productive.

148

:

And I'm using air quotes here as a woman.

149

:

Who's, you know, got, she's got an empty

nest and she can do different things.

150

:

Now, of course, of course, a woman

at home with kids is productive.

151

:

That is a good noble work.

152

:

And certainly.

153

:

We want to honor and esteem that we do

esteem that this mom here and this woman

154

:

and chapter 31 works in the home outside

of the home, she's doing all, she's

155

:

doing all over the place kind of work.

156

:

And that's a great thing.

157

:

This woman is actively involved

in the lot that God has given her.

158

:

She's known here to.

159

:

Let's see verse 10.

160

:

An excellent wife who can find

she's far more precious than jewels.

161

:

And it speaks to the rarity of this woman.

162

:

She is valuable because she

is a rare woman to find.

163

:

And I praise God that by his

guidance, we have a lot of

164

:

women like this in our church.

165

:

I suspect.

166

:

She's the kind of woman who her

husband, uh, because she's so

167

:

such a good leader in the home.

168

:

She's strong.

169

:

Her husband is known in the gates when

he sits among the elders of the land.

170

:

That is, I think what's implied there.

171

:

Is that he's able to do his job well,

because she's doing her job well, she's

172

:

doing great stuff at home, which frees

him to do great stuff outside of the home.

173

:

Uh, her dignity and honor.

174

:

Reinforces and even feeds

his own dignity and honor.

175

:

Verse 25.

176

:

Strength and dignity are her clothing.

177

:

She is clothed.

178

:

She has the attitude of strength

and dignity, and she laughs at the

179

:

time to come, she's not anxious.

180

:

She's not worried.

181

:

She is bold in the face of the future.

182

:

Not because she's got such a great

husband or she's got such a great

183

:

home, but she's got a great God.

184

:

And therefore she trusts him.

185

:

She lasts at the future.

186

:

She opens her mouth with wisdom

and the teaching of kindness

187

:

is on her tongue she's wise.

188

:

And she's kind to people obviously.

189

:

Now the verse, the last several

verses are verses that are well worth.

190

:

Our attention.

191

:

Verse 28, her children rise up and

call her blessed her husband also.

192

:

And he praises her.

193

:

Here's what they say.

194

:

Many women have done excellently,

but you surpass them all.

195

:

Husbands and children, it is such a good

thing to affirm and to praise your moms.

196

:

Praise your wife.

197

:

If you're a husband listening to this.

198

:

Well, let me extend this.

199

:

That's a good thing to praise people.

200

:

It's a good thing to affirm people.

201

:

Man.

202

:

Sometimes our cups are so

empty because we just don't get

203

:

the affirmation that we need.

204

:

We need the encouragement.

205

:

Everybody needs this.

206

:

It's good to remember.

207

:

Mom often can be overlooked.

208

:

The wife can often be.

209

:

Uh, and not paid attention

to, so it's good.

210

:

The scripture calls us to do

this, and certainly we should

211

:

do this for our moms, our wives.

212

:

They deserve that.

213

:

They need that.

214

:

But this is true also for

everyone else in the home.

215

:

Don't forget that.

216

:

Uh, verse 29, many women have done

excellently, but you surpass them all.

217

:

Charm is deceitful.

218

:

Beauty is vain.

219

:

But a woman who fears the

Lord is to be praised.

220

:

Give her the fruit of her

hands and let her works.

221

:

Praise her in the gates.

222

:

Someday.

223

:

We're all going to get old and

wrinkly and we're not going to

224

:

be as attractive as we are today.

225

:

What is most valuable is not

the external, but the inside.

226

:

Scripture calls us to

adorn the inner person.

227

:

And for the woman who does this, nothing

wrong with painting the barn at the

228

:

Barnes Peyton and as J Vernon McGee

once said, but the ultimate painting.

229

:

The ultimate beautification.

230

:

If I can use that term.

231

:

Is the inner person.

232

:

And the person who's walking with

Christ is second Corinthians chapter

233

:

four being renewed day by day.

234

:

Being conformed into his image.

235

:

And that's the beauty, that's a

real beauty and that's the kind of

236

:

beauty that the church should esteem.

237

:

It's not the glitz and glamor

that we see on TV or on the

238

:

stream or on the YouTube channel.

239

:

Real beauty.

240

:

Real dignity real honor

is the inner person.

241

:

The person who is Christ-like.

242

:

Who is like Jesus in their demeanor,

like Jesus in their thoughts, like

243

:

Jesus, in their words, that's a kind of

beauty that the church should esteem.

244

:

Whether male or female.

245

:

And with that.

246

:

Thank you for joining me for another

edition of the daily Bible podcast.

247

:

I hope you'll keep on reading

and you'll join me tomorrow.

248

:

Forget another.

249

:

See you then.
