For most podcasters, post-production and editing each episode is where a lot of their time can be spent. Fine-tuning the sound, removing unwanted sounds and words, etc, can mean spending about 2-3 hours editing a 1 hour episode.

However, you can remove a lot of this time if you prepare beforehand. Here are three tips to save time when it comes to post-production and editing.

Here are 3 quick tips.

Number 1. Tweak your processing before recording.

Many audio interfaces and some mics come with onboard processing

to set your sound levels, EQ, compression and more.

Number 2. Have notes and bullet points, as well as follow up questions

based on where a conversation might shift,

so you're not struggling to fill space during recording.

Number 3. Ensure your guests, if you have guests,

are in the best surroundings with no distractions.

This negates the need for specific sound removal later.

By planning ahead and making the sound

as good as it can be before recording,

you'll remove a lot of the need

for post-production and editing later,

because the tricks you do in editing

have already been played during recording.
