What you are about to learn

Mirriam Webster defined commitment as an agreement or pledge to do something in the future. When we think about that - a pledge is a promise that we must put into action for someone, whether it’s a family, friend, or colleague. But how do we manage to keep our word and COMMIT?

Wish… Big Wish…. And Real Commitment…

Wish - This is where we often say, “Yes, I’m gonna.” you can tell by using those kinds of words and phrases and tonality, that it is not one of two things. It's not severe at all. But it's a wishful thing, “I'm saying,” “yeah, kind of,” “what I'm saying is,” this is something we hope would happen by itself, and it wouldn't require any intervention or effort from me. “Yeah, I'm going to mow the lawn this Saturday. I'm going to clean the garage”. “Yeah, I'm going to start my marketing,” “I'm going to get in shape. I'm going to lose weight” - I need to, I'm going to, yeah, I need to do that.

There’s a big possibility that the pledge could happen if nothing else gets in the way and if nothing runs out of other things. Then, it isn't a commitment at all, and those things all fall in the category of “Wishes.” They're very watery. They're very undependable, and you have no idea whether or not it's going to come true.

Big Wish - And this is the one that most people treat as real commitments. This is where we often include the word “promise” in our sentence. It’s a promise, and it’s real. This is the category where I would say that people most of the time have a strong intention to make it into action; this constitutes a real commitment. However, sometimes due to some broken promises regardless of the circumstance since we are not committed to doing what we oath to do, then we become untrustworthy.

Real Commitment - Now, let's talk about a real genuine and honest commitment that is guaranteed and bulletproof. A real commitment starts as a firm intention, meaning it has all the language of promise. It has the full intention behind it. But then it goes much further because you then take steps to put in actions and structures to guarantee its delivery. No matter what the situation is, you kept your word. You firmly did your oath and you stand for it. That is a real commitment. Putting things into action. Being a person of your word and no room for broken promises.

My closing remarks

Now, what does all this have to do with creating an ultimate life? Well, if you're going to change yourself into the person who is living a life of purpose, prosperity, and joy, that you create serving others with your divine gifts, the commitment will factor highly into that and being a person of your word, where your word is, your bond or it’s invincible, where you are your word is a big deal. I can tell you my own life and discover that the more I do that and live like that. The more I live every day, the ultimate life.

Key Takeaways

If you say, “I need to get up earlier”- Okay, that's a wish. If you say “I promise I'm going to get up earlier tomorrow so I can finish this project at work,” and you set the alarm You know that you hit snooze a lot, and you just set it by your bed. That's not a commitment. That's a strong intention. If you are up to the real commitment, you would do anything to make it happen, you will do anything to put the plan into action no matter what. - Kellan Fluckiger.

A real serious commitment. real commitment is one where you take steps and put in structures to guarantee its delivery. When you do that, then you know you have started on the road of real commitment. And I say started because it only starts there. So you can put in all the structures you want. - Kellan Fluckiger.
