Our guest today is Rachel Lipson, the founder of Blue Balloon Songwriting School, who has been called the “matriarch of modern music education.”

Rachel shares her journey from leaving a steady and secure full-time job as a school teacher to pursuing the uncertain path of teaching songwriting to children and creating her own business.

She talks about leaning into the unknown and how letting others in on the secret of your dreams can help you, financially, emotionally, and more. Whether it’s a Kickstarter or GoFundMe or asking people to support your goals in other ways, there is nothing more energizing or empowering than letting the people you believe in demonstrate that they believe in YOU! As Rachel says, “If you’re doing it, you care about it, so maybe it’s time to admit it.”

Rachel helps us understand how to thrive despite our fears and anxiety. She also shares tips on creating physical spaces that cheer us on when we need a boost and ways to stockpile evidence of our success when we need a reminder of how capable we are. As an added bonus, she also shares the biggest hurdles she hears from the entrepreneurs she coaches.

If you're an entrepreneur or considering starting your own business, this episode is for you! Rachel's story is inspiring and full of practical tips that you can apply to your own journey.

“Everyone has ideas. What sets an entrepreneur apart from anybody else, is that they have the ideas and they move forward with them.

I sometimes thought this is a great idea, but not for me. I mean, who am I? Why should I do this? I mean, somebody's better at guitar than me. Somebody's a better songwriter. Somebody knows more people,  has more money, has more, connections, and resources. There's a mile long list of things that could make me think I'm the wrong person to do this. And then I thought, ‘OK, well, there's not a line of people saying, ‘Rachel, if you don't wanna do it, step aside and I'll do it.’”

Make sure to listen to the entire episode and take notes on the valuable insights shared by Rachel Lipson. And if you're looking for more inspiration, Rachel recommends the book "I Want to Thank You" by Gina Hamedey or sign yourself or your loved one up for Songwriting lessons at Blue Balloon
