Shownotes

"You just shut your eyes and you're transported and there's so much to learn and there's so much to play and there's so many facets of it that I've been endlessly compelled by since I as a wee child." - Karina Rykman

Welcome Karina Rykman:

We’re joined on the Starline by a bassist who brings full energy to her every show. Her debut release is “Joyride”. We welcome a ball of energy and once banned from the French Roast in Greenwich Village Karina Rykman.

Karina, let’s go Beyond the Mic. You played in your first punk band in 8th grade, streamed over 1 million times on Spotify and conned promoters into letting you play. Why did music touch your heart and soul?

Jam band legend Trey Anastasio from Phish produced Joyride. What was the 1st lesson of many you learned from this experience?

You’re on a nationwide tour supporting Joyride. Which song is the one you want everyone to fall in love with?

The Rockin' 8:

It’s time for the Rockin’ 8, 8 random questions; answer with the first thing that comes to your mind. There is no Pressure.

1. You used to be a photographer before your music career took off, Canon or Nikon?

2. What was the color of your first pick you played the bass with?

3. Your mom shares a birthday with Joe Walsh and Duane Allman. What’s your favorite thing about her?

4. One thing you have to take out on tour with you?

5. Do you remember your SAT scores (especially after you burned your SAT books with your parents)?

6. You’re a foodie, so what’s the best place in New York that only locals know of?

7. Favorite Phish deep cut?

8. You said “I've said it before and I'll say it again and again: NEVER trust ANYONE who doesn't like Led Zeppelin,” but what’s your favorite Led Zeppelin song?

Sneaking in One More:

What’s the symbolism in you 12” vinyl having a Blue/Red/Yellow Quad design?

One Big Question:

What’s the one thing you want to achieve in your musical future and what do you consider success?

The Wrap:

She has to have her Nespresso machine, had a perfect English SAT (but don’t ask about her math) and wants you to try Oysters Rykman. Karina Rykman, best of luck with Joyland tour. Thanks for taking the time to talk with us today.

And that my friends is a Beyond the Mic Short Cut.
