Christian fellowship can develop wherever believers genuinely encourage, strengthen, and pray for one another. Dr. Dave’s devotional, “Fellowship Over the Airways,” uses 1 Thessalonians 5:11 to celebrate the kind of connection that can happen through radio, internet, and telephone conversations. A caller recovering from surgery simply called to declare that God is great, yet that conversation became something larger—a testimony of healing, endurance, shared joy, and mutual encouragement. Fellowship certainly happens within church buildings, but it is not confined to them. Whenever Christians honestly share their struggles, victories, laughter, prayers, and testimonies, God can create sacred moments of connection. Christian broadcasting therefore becomes more than delivering information; it can become a place where believers genuinely participate in each other’s lives.

Peter takes Christian conduct considerably further than merely refusing retaliation: when someone gives an insult, believers are commanded to respond with a blessing. Dr. Dave acknowledges that such behavior is impossible through ordinary human strength because everything within us wants to produce the perfect comeback. Yet God’s kingdom repeatedly operates opposite to natural instincts: Christians die in order to live, give in order to receive, believe in order to see, and bless when they are insulted. That kind of response requires the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit. Loving an enemy may demonstrate God’s power more profoundly than outward spiritual displays because it requires something the flesh cannot naturally produce. Peter connects this Christlike conduct with inheriting blessing and experiencing the abundant life found through surrender to Jesus.

Proverbs describes a fool as quick-tempered while identifying wisdom with remaining calm when insulted, making our response to criticism an important measurement of spiritual maturity. Dr. Dave emphasizes that insults may increase against Christians, making this instruction increasingly important in relationships with strangers, parents, children, siblings, and everyone else. Peter tells believers to turn from evil, do good, seek peace, and actively pursue it because God sees everything—our outward behavior, private thoughts, hidden motives, and internal reactions. His constant awareness is not an invitation to perform spiritually but a reason to live sincerely before Him. Jesus provides the ultimate example: He received unimaginable evil and insults, yet His response was to sacrifice Himself for the very people mistreating Him. The clearest answer to an insult is not a better insult—it is a response that looks like Jesus.
