In this week's Wellness Wednesday episode, Evan covers the last of the essential elements, air. Air just as the other 3 essential elements is crucial for life and survival. Connecting to the air element can both help to energize the body and bring it in to a resting state. Air teaches us to let go of that which is holding us back and to bring awareness to the health of our respiratory system. One of the main ways Evan enjoys connecting to the air element is through his breath work. Breath work is a great way to improve the health of your respiratory system, the health of your nervous system, and your overall health and wellbeing. Learn why connecting to the air element is crucial to your health and how these four essential elements can drastically change your health and help you to perform at your highest level.

Do everything with good intentions and connect to your elements.

Evan:

on, everybody.

Evan:

Welcome back to the Elemental Evan show on this week's wellness Wednesday

Evan:

episode, we are covering the last of the four essential elements that

Evan:

are key to improving your health.

Evan:

So for those of you who are just tuning into this episode and

Evan:

you haven't listened to the last few weeks episodes, I am cover.

Evan:

All of the elements that are necessary to connect, to, to improve our health.

Evan:

Because as you know, this show is called elemental evidence.

Evan:

I believe that through our connection to the elements, we can truly have

Evan:

our highest level of health and just be at our best version possible.

Evan:

And realistically, all of these elements make up different proponents

Evan:

of our health and if we can connect to them properly and really.

Evan:

Have the best quality in these elements, then we can really be the best quality

Evan:

self that we could possibly be.

Evan:

So that's why I'm covering these different elements.

Evan:

And if you haven't already heard the earth water or fire episode, then

Evan:

please go ahead and go back to those and listen them as well after this episode.

Evan:

But today I have.

Evan:

One of my favorite elements.

Evan:

It is air.

Evan:

And this one is obviously a very important element.

Evan:

It's an essential element because without it life here on earth wouldn't exist.

Evan:

When we think of the air element, it's, it's not only something

Evan:

that's residing outside of us, but it's also residing within us.

Evan:

Obviously when we take a breath, we allow air to flood into our body.

Evan:

And then obviously we expel that air out.

Evan:

But yes, air is definitely crucial to our survival.

Evan:

and to life in general, uh, when we think of air, there's a few

Evan:

different kind of attributes.

Evan:

We can tie up with air such as change, movement, flow non-resistance and energy.

Evan:

Those are just a few of the things that we can kind of think of air embodying.

Evan:

And when we think of air, we know it's important, but I think it's really

Evan:

interesting to look at it in this term.

Evan:

You can go, multiple days without eating, you go even a few days without drinking

Evan:

water, but you can only go a like seconds to maybe minutes if you're really good

Evan:

at holding your breath without air.

Evan:

So it is a very, very essential element and it's very important that

Evan:

we connect to it to really have good.

Evan:

Now our breath is actually the second portion of what creates energy within

Evan:

our bodies in Sanskrit, the term prana.

Evan:

So in terms of like pranayama, which is breath control or breath work, this

Evan:

refers to the word energy and breath.

Evan:

So prana is literally synonymous with both breath and energy, because even back in

Evan:

the day, you know, the people knew that.

Evan:

breath was energy for the body.

Evan:

And it truly is.

Evan:

I mean, now we have signs to back this up, but you know, this is in Sanskrit.

Evan:

They had this term, right?

Evan:

So for a really long time, we've known that our breath is our energy.

Evan:

Now, when you inhale oxygen along with obviously other gases that

Evan:

make up our air, the oxygen is going to enter into your lungs and

Evan:

then be distributed throughout the.

Evan:

and the oxygen along with the food that you're consuming is going to

Evan:

be used by your mitochondria to produce what's known as adenosine

Evan:

tri phosphate, which is also known as ATP or just in simpler terms energy.

Evan:

So we literally know you can go do your research on this and find out that our

Evan:

mitochondria, which are creating that ATP, that energy they are using oxygen and.

Evan:

Parts of our food combined to create our energy for our body.

Evan:

So literally your breath is your energy for your body.

Evan:

And it's actually really interesting because in pro Yama or breath work,

Evan:

a lot of the pro Yama that I would do when I was going under my, uh, yoga.

Evan:

Like my yoga teaching, uh, certificate, you know, uh, like when I was taking

Evan:

the classes for that, a lot of the, uh, the breath work or the pro Yama that

Evan:

we would do would include breath holds.

Evan:

And the reason they would do that is because if you can slow your

Evan:

energy, then you can also slow your thoughts because your thoughts are

Evan:

requiring energy to be produced.

Evan:

So when you slow down the energy in your body, literally holding your.

Evan:

You are also slowing down your mind and making it easier to get into a calm state

Evan:

of mind, which was really interesting.

Evan:

Uh, I did not know that before going and taking those classes.

Evan:

So, uh, that was really interesting how I figured I should share that

Evan:

on obviously the air element.

Evan:

So as I stated, air is a very, very crucial element.

Evan:

Does a lot of different things, obviously for not only us, but the

Evan:

plants around us and for landscapes it's, you know, literally helps

Evan:

to shape our world as we know it.

Evan:

And.

Evan:

Unfortunately over, you know, the last hundred years or so, our air has taken

Evan:

a huge beating in terms of pollution.

Evan:

Um, we haven't treated our air very kindly at all.

Evan:

And you know, this is really showing up in a lot of the diseases that are now

Evan:

manifesting such as asthma and you know, all these different kinds of respiratory,

Evan:

uh, diseases or issues that are coming up.

Evan:

And it's simply because our air quality is truly.

Evan:

Of poor quality at this moment in time, which is unfortunate.

Evan:

And, uh, you know, just as with our soil and our water quality matters, you know?

Evan:

And so does our air, you know, it's the same thing.

Evan:

The quality of our air really, really matters in terms of, you know, taking

Evan:

care of our respiratory health.

Evan:

So.

Evan:

In terms of connecting to the air element, uh, you know, there's quite a

Evan:

few different things that we can do, but the first and most important one is simply

Evan:

to get outside and into nature more.

Evan:

So when you're indoors, the air is quite stagnant there.

Evan:

And if you live in a big city, then definitely the air is gonna

Evan:

be not only stagnant, but probably having levels of pollution in it as.

Evan:

So getting outside into nature, or even just getting outside, but specifically

Evan:

into nature, you're gonna get a, a much higher quality level of air out there.

Evan:

And it's gonna just be extremely nourishing for your body.

Evan:

Honestly, it smells good when you're out in, you know, the trees and stuff,

Evan:

and you can smell the pine needles or whatever kind of trees are around you.

Evan:

Uh, it's very beneficial to get outside and to get that fresh air into your lungs

Evan:

and really purify the lungs in that.

Evan:

now for those of you who do live in a city and you spend a lot of times indoors.

Evan:

Getting some house plants is a really, really great idea to increase the oxygen

Evan:

output in the room and to also help kind of cleanse and purify the air.

Evan:

Uh, obviously the plants are going to consume the carbon dioxide that

Evan:

you're breathing out and they're gonna produce oxygen for the room, which

Evan:

is gonna make the air much better.

Evan:

You can also, uh, crack open some windows or a door and allow the air to

Evan:

move around so that it's not staying so stagnant, which is also going to

Evan:

help improve some of the air quality.

Evan:

Uh, obviously, if you do live in a big city, then it might be a little

Evan:

bit hard to get some fresh air.

Evan:

That's not, you know, like polluted or something or maybe just smell bad.

Evan:

Uh, so getting some house plants is definitely gonna be key or even some

Evan:

air filters can be a good idea as well.

Evan:

Now, obviously, you know, I'm not gonna do a whole podcast talk on air and not

Evan:

talk about breath, work, uh, breath work.

Evan:

As I already stated it.

Evan:

It's just incredible.

Evan:

Um, you know, the ability of it to help you get into deeper meditations,

Evan:

the ability of it to stimulate your sympathetic and parasympathetic

Evan:

nervous systems, meaning to either, uh, essentially wake you

Evan:

up or allow you to enter into a relaxed and restful kind of state.

Evan:

That's all through air that's all through breath.

Evan:

Your breath is a function of your autonomic nervous system, which the

Evan:

other functions of your autonomic nervous system are things like, um,

Evan:

temperature regulation of your body, uh, blood pressure, uh, digestion.

Evan:

You know, all these different things that you cannot control, uh, consciously,

Evan:

but your breath is one of those things.

Evan:

And obviously you can breathe without thinking about it, but you can

Evan:

also think about breathing and then breathe in a specific pattern and

Evan:

through doing so you can alter so many different things in your body.

Evan:

Uh, one that I really, really enjoy personally is just the fact that you

Evan:

can activate your parasympathetic nervous system and get into a

Evan:

relaxed state, which a lot of people are having trouble sleeping and

Evan:

just honestly relaxing these days.

Evan:

And so this is a great tool to use to.

Evan:

Help yourself sleep better.

Evan:

Uh, take a load off and to stop stressing about all the stuff that

Evan:

you have going on in your life.

Evan:

So I really, really enjoy breath work.

Evan:

Um, this was something that before my yoga teacher training, I

Evan:

didn't really practice that often.

Evan:

I would do a little bit of breath of fire, which is a really fast paced breathing.

Evan:

And I would do that typically, uh, just when I was doing yoga, I didn't

Evan:

practice it outside of the yoga class, but then when I went into my yoga teacher

Evan:

training and I had to do an hour of breathwork every single day, Then I was

Evan:

really able to notice that the effect of breathwork is very, very tangible and

Evan:

it's extremely, extremely beneficial.

Evan:

And if you love meditating and you haven't tried breathwork I highly recommend trying

Evan:

some breathwork and then meditating.

Evan:

It is a quite a game changer and gets you into a very, um, different

Evan:

state in terms of meditation.

Evan:

So definitely give that a go.

Evan:

And on top of that, you can also do specific breathwork practices that

Evan:

are cleansing for the lungs I have in my, uh, in my breathwork course that

Evan:

I created, I put in their preparatory PMA practices and they are essentially

Evan:

meant to cleanse and purify the lungs and prepare them for the day.

Evan:

So, um, if you haven't already checked out that program, then please go check it all.

Evan:

I'll have it linked it.

Evan:

Uh, I'll have it linked in the show.

Evan:

So you can check it out and, uh, get yourself on the breathwork course with me.

Evan:

I have five different Breathworks on there.

Evan:

One of those is the preparatory Prema, but I have one for the morning,

Evan:

one for nighttime, one for, uh, stress reduction, you know, so five

Evan:

different Breathworks in there and it's an extremely affordable cost.

Evan:

And, uh, honestly, I, I.

Evan:

Love sharing breathwork I think that the practice is so beneficial for everybody,

Evan:

and it's something that I really enjoy teaching and, you know, being able to

Evan:

guide people through a breathwork course.

Evan:

So hopefully you'all enjoy that, check it out.

Evan:

It'll be in the show notes.

Evan:

Um, and then aside from our breathwork, we can also practice exercise.

Evan:

So exercise is in one way or another really associated with every single one

Evan:

of the elements, one of the different elements and in terms of really,

Evan:

you know, connecting to the air.

Evan:

I really like to do things like walking or running, you know, very

Evan:

kind of like moving with the wind.

Evan:

Right.

Evan:

But also just flowy exercises.

Evan:

So this is kind of similar as well to.

Evan:

Uh, water element exercise, which would be like a Vinyasa flow or something

Evan:

like that, but just essentially, you know, not static postures, something

Evan:

that is very move movement based, you know, probably not really,

Evan:

uh, much weight involved in it.

Evan:

And we want to keep it light here, obviously being that this is the

Evan:

air element, but has a really great way to practice, uh, connecting to

Evan:

their element in terms of exercise.

Evan:

and then in terms of practicing more of a spiritual, uh, or, you

Evan:

know, emotional practice with air is simply just practicing, letting go

Evan:

of the things that are holding you back and embracing change, right?

Evan:

Because air is always moving.

Evan:

It's never the same.

Evan:

It's creating change all around the world.

Evan:

It's moving clouds from one area to another.

Evan:

It's picking up.

Evan:

From this area, putting it over here.

Evan:

It's, you know, making domes in, in the desert, it's doing

Evan:

so many different things.

Evan:

It's always a change.

Evan:

It's always a move.

Evan:

And so I think it's important for us to connect to the air element in that way, in

Evan:

which you are embracing the change that is constantly happening in happening in life.

Evan:

Cuz each day is going to be a different day, obviously and letting go of those

Evan:

things that are holding you back.

Evan:

The air is never, you know, it's not being held back by anything.

Evan:

It's, it's the movement of life.

Evan:

So, uh, that's a really great way to prac uh, to connect to the air element as well.

Evan:

And yeah, that's pretty much all of the practices for the air element.

Evan:

Uh, in the other episodes, I have mentioned that I'm putting together

Evan:

essentially a, maybe a couple week course, like two weeks where we really

Evan:

connect to the elements and, you know, as a group, like I would go through this.

Evan:

Two week class with all of you and really practice on connecting to the elements,

Evan:

just because the benefits of connecting to the elements are so incredible from

Evan:

improved sleep, to improved mental clarity, to improved digestion, to

Evan:

improved health, to improved looks, everything can be, you know, gained

Evan:

through connecting to the elements.

Evan:

So a lot to be had there, obviously, as a podcast listener to this

Evan:

show, you will be one of the first to hear when this course comes.

Evan:

And when it does, I will be so excited to guide you all through it and share

Evan:

the benefits of connecting to the elements with all of you, because it

Evan:

truly is the way to be at your best level and connect to your highest

Evan:

level of health and just really be your best self to give your best self

Evan:

to everyone around you, which is so I.

Evan:

So anyways, we'll be sure to let you know when that is going to be

Evan:

happening, but until then, there is always the seven day elemental

Evan:

health reset, which is on my website.

Evan:

I also have that linked in the show notes.

Evan:

So you can always practice that as well, which it is a, a week long course.

Evan:

That is really all about just connecting to the elements.

Evan:

And it's kind of a reset because obviously there's times in our lives

Evan:

where we get thrown off track, we're eating terribly, we're sleeping terribly.

Evan:

You know, we're just not living in line with what we want to be.

Evan:

And so it's a really great way to get yourself back on track and, you know,

Evan:

connect to the elements, but it really is like it's a full body and mind reset.

Evan:

So definitely go ahead and check that out as well.

Evan:

It's in the show notes, as I stated earlier, and if you have enjoyed this

Evan:

to all of you and continue tuning in and connect with me.
