Transcripts

Laura:

Hello and welcome to, who Are You?

Laura:

It's a Babylon five watch cast by a couple of former strangers, now friends

Laura:

who are continuing to get to know each other over one of their favorite

Laura:

shows from their childhood, Babylon.

Laura:

Five.

Laura:

I'm Laura,

Xhafer:

And I'm Ja.

Laura:

and today we are asking who should play John Sheridan.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Little fan re casting.

Xhafer:

Still no news on our reboot.

Xhafer:

But we're gonna continue this bit out of raw optimism.

Laura:

Just this unfiltered optimism over here, hoping

Laura:

that we will get this someday.

Xhafer:

if I can have one outlet of optimism in my life, it's

Xhafer:

gonna be this fan casting.

Xhafer:

And by that I mean, I have one outlet of optimism in my

Xhafer:

life, and it's this fan casting

Laura:

Boy, that's dark.

Laura:

I hope you have other outlets to fair.

Xhafer:

I do.

Xhafer:

But yeah, so we're, it's uh, Zaha Doom is a big Sheridan episode,

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

here to talk about today.

Xhafer:

So it seemed appropriate to recast our captain.

Xhafer:

And yeah.

Xhafer:

Who do you have in mind, Laura?

Xhafer:

Who are you thinking?

Laura:

Well, so John Sheridan's a hard one, right?

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

My head, at first I thought to myself, well, who's

Laura:

a real Bill Pullman type?

Laura:

Because I think there's a very very good connection between like Bruce Box

Laura:

Leitner and Bill Pullman vibes, right?

Laura:

I'm not

Xhafer:

Yeah, I feel that.

Laura:

this.

Laura:

Okay?

Laura:

And so I just started out googling Bill Pullman and I found out he's

Laura:

got a son that is in the right age range to play John Sheridan.

Xhafer:

Okay.

Laura:

So I was looking at Lewis Pullman he's recently been in Top Gun

Laura:

Maverick, apparently, and also played major, major, major, major in Catch 22.

Xhafer:

Okay.

Xhafer:

I watched that.

Laura:

Military stuff, we can, he can do this, right?

Laura:

He's, he's got military chops here.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

I'm gonna need him to like fluff up his hair more, though.

Laura:

He doesn't have fluffy enough hair for a John Sheridan for me and a lot of

Laura:

these headshots that I'm looking at.

Laura:

So we'll have to figure out some styling.

Xhafer:

Fluffy hair also factors into my fan cast, and I really

Xhafer:

appreciate that you bring out it up.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I definitely want him to have, like the other actor that I looked at was Adam

Laura:

Scott, cuz he's got some good swoopy dudes in some of his work, right?

Xhafer:

He's got the second Swoo pickiest hair in parks, in rec.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

of course, second only to John Ralphio.

Laura:

John Ralph, my fave.

Laura:

So I'm thinking, you know, if, if we can't get Louis Pullman's hair

Laura:

right, maybe we have to go with Adam Scott, but what about you, Jaire?

Xhafer:

Well so I had originally, like when we first talked about

Xhafer:

this bit, I'm like, I know exactly who I want to fan cast as Sheridan.

Xhafer:

Like this was the, like when we talked about doing fan casting, I'm a, like,

Xhafer:

I want Olivia Wild as John Sheridan,

Laura:

Right?

Xhafer:

and it's in my head.

Xhafer:

And this was.

Xhafer:

A while ago now, and when going to do research on Olivia Wilds to talk

Xhafer:

about this bit, having figured, oh, I've got this one in the bag.

Xhafer:

This is gonna be the easiest cold open I found out.

Xhafer:

She's actually said some really terrible shit.

Laura:

Ugh.

Laura:

That's

Xhafer:

apparently very homophobic from what I was able to find on online.

Xhafer:

She said some really homophobic stuff.

Xhafer:

So no, you don't get my fan cast anymore.

Xhafer:

Olivia Wild for that reason.

Xhafer:

So that was a bummer.

Xhafer:

So then I'm like, okay, well I've gotta think about who I want to be, my captain.

Xhafer:

And my immediate first thought, of course is Anson Mount, who

Xhafer:

I always want to be my captain,

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Oh, captain, my Captain Sen Mount.

Xhafer:

for sure a hundred.

Xhafer:

Yeah, he's great in strange new worlds and I don't care.

Xhafer:

I don't care.

Xhafer:

I don't care.

Xhafer:

I don't care.

Xhafer:

He'd be great as John Sheridan.

Xhafer:

But in the interest of not just projecting my dreams into reality and maybe picking

Xhafer:

something that is a little bit more grounded and also a little bit closer

Xhafer:

to what I originally wanted to do, cuz I thought it'd be fun to do Olivia

Xhafer:

Wild because of Tron and Tron legacy.

Xhafer:

So I want someone who's got some like 20 year old sci-fi chops that

Xhafer:

was kind of a young hot shot in a movie, and now we can see them

Xhafer:

progressed into a more mature role.

Xhafer:

I did go for something a little bit more military than Tron.

Xhafer:

I'm thinking Starship Troopers and I'm thinking Casper VanDyne.

Laura:

Oh, okay.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

hair.

Xhafer:

He has not said anything terrible.

Xhafer:

I could find over with about five minutes of Googling.

Xhafer:

And he's, he's got the look.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Full disclosure, I didn't Google to see a flu.

Laura:

Pollman was problematic.

Laura:

I just am enough of the Bill Pullman vibe, so hopefully he's not

Xhafer:

yeah, yeah, I think Casper got the look definitely has the background.

Xhafer:

Has done a lot of really terrible sci-fi movies and stuff, and like just b movie

Xhafer:

acting and I feel like, I feel like he could do a really good job with it given

Xhafer:

something that's got a little bit more.

Xhafer:

Seriousness to it.

Xhafer:

Like there are instances uh, and I'm sure we can all think of something like this,

Xhafer:

where a great actor can elevate dialogue.

Xhafer:

Like a great actor can take shitty dialogue and make it great.

Xhafer:

And a great writer can take as high caliber actor and elevate them with

Xhafer:

great dialogue written for them.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Sure.

Laura:

Sure.

Xhafer:

And I don't want to like shit on Casper VanDyne but he

Xhafer:

is like a b plus player at best.

Xhafer:

You know, he's, he's not out here getting Oscars for best actor.

Xhafer:

He's not someone who you think of when you're like, who elevates their craft?

Xhafer:

You know, he's not a Juan Carlo Esposito, you know, who can take

Xhafer:

DRL and make it interesting.

Xhafer:

So I think having someone like JMS in his corner would allow him to

Xhafer:

elevate his craft to the next level.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I'm looking at, you know, just the basic Wikipedia here, and I'm seeing that

Laura:

he not only rode the Starship Troopers train, he rode it all the way to Starship

Laura:

Troopers three, which can't be great.

Xhafer:

It's not, I've watched all those movies.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

There's a lot of really, really bad ones.

Xhafer:

There's a, I think the two was not great.

Xhafer:

Three was bad.

Xhafer:

The animated one was real rough.

Xhafer:

guess for VanDyne, that's my pick.

Laura:

Yeah, I like.

Xhafer:

All right.

Xhafer:

Well lacking a good segue.

Xhafer:

I will, I do want to call that this episode was directed by Adam Nemoy,

Xhafer:

which I thought was super fun.

Laura:

Oh really?

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I can see why we had Adam on this one, cuz it needed a strong

Laura:

director and I think we got one.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

There's for sure, there's lots of very uh, wide open, kind of very

Xhafer:

scenic style shots that I think his, his eye lenss itself well, too.

Xhafer:

We've got season three, episode 22, Zaha dumb.

Xhafer:

Did I say that right?

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I mean,

Xhafer:

I'm, I'm gonna let myself make that

Xhafer:

once.

Laura:

it, right?

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

That that's what it looks like.

Laura:

Right.

Laura:

Nailed

Xhafer:

Nah.

Xhafer:

Season three, episode 22.

Xhafer:

Saha to

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So we get a last time on as we open.

Laura:

We see where we left off in the last episode.

Laura:

Anna Sheridan showing up in the middle of the night,

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

breaks the snow globe.

Laura:

And then we all are shocked and

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

That Anna's here.

Xhafer:

Anna Sheridan.

Xhafer:

We get some flashbacks to the Icarus and Mr.

Xhafer:

Morden reminding us how dead Anna is.

Laura:

Yeah, yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

That, that good look for Sheridan episode comes back up.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So then once, once we've wrapped up the, the past there a little bit Sheridan's

Laura:

just kind of slack, Jad staring at Anna.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

And she's kind of a jerk, like right off.

Xhafer:

She's so len's just like, nope.

Xhafer:

And gets the hell out of there,

Laura:

That's

Laura:

fair.

Xhafer:

good on her.

Xhafer:

I, I gotta imagine I would do the exact same thing in a similar situation, just

Xhafer:

like you guys got some shit to figure out.

Xhafer:

I don't need to be here for that.

Xhafer:

But

Xhafer:

there was a minute where it looked like John was gonna try and stop her like he

Xhafer:

goes to, and then he just stops himself.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

That is the right move.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I don't know if, if she was thinking if Dylan was really thinking about

Laura:

it, like, the only way this person is back here is somehow related to

Laura:

this big enemy that we're fighting.

Laura:

Like maybe you shouldn't leave.

Laura:

Like should you leave him alone with her?

Laura:

I don't know.

Laura:

But.

Laura:

I get

Laura:

it in the

Laura:

moment.

Laura:

That freaks you out.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And the second she does, Anna's all like, what do you mean you thought I was dead?

Xhafer:

Dalen didn't tell you I was alive.

Xhafer:

Dalen knew I was Del Livo.

Xhafer:

You trusted

Laura:

Ooh, ooh.

Xhafer:

Just takes that ax and starts the wedge them apart

Xhafer:

immediately and nothing grinds.

Xhafer:

Sheridan's gears quite like being manipulated and you can tell immediately

Xhafer:

because the first thing they do is go down to med lab to be all like, okay,

Xhafer:

well you're getting checked the fuck out.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I mean there's, this is the logical first step at least, right?

Xhafer:

I would hope so.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

gotta get this checked out.

Laura:

So we go to theme and back from theme, Kar has found some nuclear weapons.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Just some nukes.

Laura:

Just a

Laura:

few.

Xhafer:

a, bunch of them,

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

It's like 50 or something, right?

Laura:

It.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

It was like 50 or 60 nukes from the guy.

Laura:

uhhuh.

Laura:

These are like special nukes.

Laura:

They're not gonna show up on scanners.

Laura:

Extra powerful.

Laura:

And of he's showing these off to AANA of a Of course she's thrilled.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Really weird that they'd bring up these nukes and then just turn away and not

Xhafer:

bring it up for the rest of the episode.

Xhafer:

Huh.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Weird place setting, I feel

Laura:

in that for later.

Xhafer:

Right.

Xhafer:

I d normally jms, I don't want to call this sloppy,

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

But having this scene in this episode is a little like,

Xhafer:

It's un, it's, it's not his style.

Xhafer:

I feel like we should have gotten this at a Z minus four, which by the way, where

Xhafer:

the hell was the Z minus in this episode?

Laura:

Oh, I thought, hmm.

Laura:

You know, I thought I was writing those down and I didn't write one down, so.

Xhafer:

Yeah,

Laura:

there wasn't.

Xhafer:

I don't think there was a Z minus in this one.

Laura:

guess it's just Z now we're

Laura:

there.

Laura:

Interesting.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

No, sloppy is not the word I would use.

Laura:

I have a different word for it, but I'm gonna save that till the rating.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

That's fair.

Xhafer:

So after this, by the way, so we go down into me lab after we hear about the

Xhafer:

nukes, and Franklin is checking out Anna.

Xhafer:

And it's only been two days since he was stuck in a wheelchair and forced

Xhafer:

to delegate, and he is now actively moving around med lab with a cane and

Xhafer:

doing everything himself all over again.

Laura:

Huh.

Laura:

Hmm.

Laura:

I wonder how well that lesson stuck.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Go to

Laura:

Hmm.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Let's hope he's seeing the chief counseling officer or

Laura:

whatever, off screen somewhere.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So he th he's confirms This is Anna, right?

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

The DNA matches, you know, everything.

Xhafer:

Every check that he can run, he's like, I've got a couple more tests.

Xhafer:

But it's, it's not looking like it's gonna be easy pickings here.

Xhafer:

This isn't just an hard No.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

There, there's this thing maybe on her neck.

Laura:

I gotta look at it a little closer back of her neck.

Laura:

Kind of weird.

Laura:

I don't know,

Laura:

but it seems fine.

Xhafer:

So after this Sheridan goes and talks with Delan Wall,

Xhafer:

Anna's still getting checked out and he is pretty upset,

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

because if she knew that his wife was possibly still alive, just

Xhafer:

even the slightest possibility and then entered into a relationship with him,

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

there's definitely some unethical implication there on Dalen and

Xhafer:

Dylann's.

Xhafer:

Like, look, they either killed her or she volunteered either way.

Xhafer:

That's not your wife no more.

Laura:

yeah, I mean, she's not wrong.

Laura:

Uh I think Bruce Box Leer did a really bang up job in this episode.

Laura:

I wrote that down pretty early.

Laura:

With his, emotions around these two ladies, especially around dead wife.

Laura:

Like it was all really good, really believable.

Laura:

And you know, I think one of the things Dylan says is that part of the

Laura:

reason they didn't even entertain the idea that Anna could be alive is that

Laura:

she and Kosh were both afraid that he would take off and go to Zha dom and

Laura:

they both know for some reason that he should not go to Zha Doom, right?

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And he's been told he can't go to Zaha Doom enough that when it comes

Xhafer:

up this time, he pulls out his phone, buys a Delta Comfort plus ticket,

Xhafer:

one way to Zaha, do immediately

Xhafer:

in his mind like he is going, and he is gonna be comfy for the ride there.

Xhafer:

He has already decided.

Xhafer:

If I can't go there, I must go there.

Xhafer:

It is a ball.

Xhafer:

I'm a five year old then you have told me no.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

And he's not the kind of man who can accept mysteries in life

Laura:

and that some things don't have answers.

Laura:

And he knows his answers are on z hadum.

Laura:

I

Laura:

mean, he's gotta get him.

Xhafer:

He's gotta get him.

Xhafer:

Dalen owns up that Anna basically cannot be the same.

Xhafer:

No one leaves.

Xhafer:

Aha.

Xhafer:

Unchanged.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I wonder if that's foreshadowing.

Laura:

Hmm.

Laura:

Put a

Laura:

pin in that

Xhafer:

about this whole thing.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

There's one, there's one cute little line that I just wanna call out,

Xhafer:

which is Dylan says she loves him and if he never believes another

Xhafer:

word that she says to believe that

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

that

Xhafer:

that was nice.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

But speaking of people who are pissed.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Not the only one.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Wado is a little bit distraught at being promoted.

Xhafer:

He's not happy about it.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

He's talking to Veer and he's had a messenger or, or, you know, some

Laura:

sort of message that the Royal Court wants him to be an advisor.

Laura:

He's been promoted.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

And he's just like, well, one, I should have gotten this job 20 years ago

Xhafer:

when I was young enough to enjoy it.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

Fair.

Xhafer:

I, I get, I, I don't know, I, part of me feels like that's skeezy as fuck.

Xhafer:

Like that's a really skeezy comment to me.

Xhafer:

But also I have said that about a job that I've had in the past.

Xhafer:

Because I was, I spent five years traveling around the country for work,

Xhafer:

and I did that in my mid to late twenties.

Xhafer:

And it was a great time to do that.

Xhafer:

You know, when I did not have any kind of real obligations tying me to

Xhafer:

an area, I got to just go and explore and stay in cities over the weekend

Xhafer:

when I wasn't working and just like see America on the company dime.

Xhafer:

And I'm super fortunate I was able to do that.

Xhafer:

And if I were to do that job now you know, I'm a couple years away from 40

Xhafer:

I would not have the same experience.

Xhafer:

I would go home or I'd go to my hotel room and sleep and I'd come home on

Xhafer:

the weekends and I'm sure I'd do some stuff sometimes, but not nearly to the

Xhafer:

level that I did when I was younger.

Xhafer:

And so maybe I should give Londo the benefit of the doubt, but maybe

Xhafer:

I should remember that Londo is a fucking genocide and we can't

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

He, he, it's very entitled to say, I should have had this 20 years ago.

Laura:

You know?

Xhafer:

Yeah,

Laura:

Well, you, you didn't for some reason, huh?

Laura:

Weird.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

And then while they're having this discussion, alluding that Lando

Laura:

is going to have to go home to the cent entire home world, at some

Laura:

point a mysterious guy shows up

Laura:

and says, Hey, if you wanna live, you should get off this station.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

We have mutual associates and fears, just all like Morden and

Xhafer:

Orlando's, like, who the fuck else?

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

There's one person we call an associate on this damn show.

Xhafer:

Right?

Xhafer:

Human dressed in all black without a sky.

Xhafer:

P cycorp pin must be morden.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Must be shadows somehow.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Franklin finds something in Anna's brain scans, which we get

Xhafer:

really quick before it moves on.

Xhafer:

And uh, then we cut over to Anna who basically says that her old self is dead.

Xhafer:

And without saying it exactly she's like, look, I'm doing

Xhafer:

important work on Zaha Doom.

Xhafer:

I'm going back.

Xhafer:

Anything that remains between, like there's, I'm not staying

Xhafer:

on Babylon five with you.

Xhafer:

I need you to come back with me to have this meeting.

Xhafer:

And that's all she's really interested in talking about.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

She's very flippant about having been on Zha Doom for so long without messaging

Laura:

her husband, seeing her husband.

Laura:

Like if Anna was unchanged right.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

And she had just stayed on Zha Doom and not called Sheridan at all this whole.

Laura:

Like, dude, that is not your wife, but like, even if she hasn't been manipulated

Laura:

by shadows, like who does that?

Laura:

Who does that?

Laura:

So,

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

She's like, there is no conversation that exists in her mind that is

Xhafer:

about them getting back together.

Laura:

mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

Like that is not an option that her mind is considered or something

Xhafer:

that she's interested in talking about.

Xhafer:

That's done.

Xhafer:

Th their marriage is dead, and she does not make any pretense to save it.

Xhafer:

She's all like, you need to come back to Saha Doom to hear what

Xhafer:

my bosses have to say to you.

Xhafer:

Not even to come stay with me because my work is so important

Xhafer:

and I can't leave it behind, you know, or to come join this work.

Xhafer:

That's not what she says at all.

Xhafer:

You know, that's not what the interest is.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

And it's not come with me because I love you.

Laura:

Like there's no.

Xhafer:

Yeah,

Laura:

be lies.

Laura:

I mean, it would be lies at this point.

Laura:

But Sheridan is starting to crack, but he's not gonna go

Laura:

with her without some answers.

Laura:

First

Xhafer:

yeah.

Xhafer:

So we get a little bit of backstory on what actually happened with

Xhafer:

Interplanetary Expeditions and the Icarus.

Xhafer:

We learned the source of the location of Zaha Doom wasn't a probe, as we had heard

Xhafer:

in a previous episode, but rather a beacon that they had placed on the shadow ship

Xhafer:

on Mars that we saw back in season two.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Gu Baldy told us about this ship at least.

Laura:

Right.

Laura:

And that he and Sinclair happened to see it, both of them.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

When they were stationed on Mars.

Laura:

yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

She says that an accident killed the crew of the Icarus.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And some kind of accident Killed a thousand people.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

So not everyone died, obviously cuz she's here.

Laura:

Right.

Laura:

But uh, killed some of them.

Laura:

They got to basically just stay and study the shadow technology in

Laura:

exchange for not contacting anybody

Laura:

and playing dead.

Xhafer:

After this, when we cut over to Sheridan's office he gives Garabaldi a

Xhafer:

reason to get the crew off of the white star and some miscellaneous tasks, which

Xhafer:

Guerra Baldi puts together immediately.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And he's just like going over this list.

Xhafer:

It's all like, make sure no one gets back on the white star aft until this.

Xhafer:

Sure, whatever make sure that Dalen gets this message in case, you know, I don't

Xhafer:

get a chance to record or whatever.

Xhafer:

Make sure two nukes end up on the whites, and he's like, what?

. Laura:

This is a lot of trust, a lot of trust between Garibaldi and Sheridan here.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Xhafer:

And the, the, the story of their ability to trust each other.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

This is the first, like, remember the first time

Xhafer:

you were on a roller coaster

Laura:

Maybe.

Xhafer:

and it started, it started pulling you up.

Xhafer:

And like you have that moment of anticipation knowing that this something's

Xhafer:

happening and like you have a general idea of what's gonna happen, but the

Xhafer:

exact emotion of it is still foreign.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

That is this moment, that moment on the rollercoaster as you

Xhafer:

start to get pulled up the first time and this moment with the two of them

Xhafer:

and the trust, it's that same moment and the ride, that the relationship

Xhafer:

that is these two is about to take,

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

starts moving.

Laura:

Mm.

Laura:

Garabaldi takes the list and he agrees.

Laura:

And then when they see each other again, they're going to talk about the weather.

Xhafer:

If it was all done.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

That's the code word.

Xhafer:

Sheridan starts getting ready as the ghost of Kosmas past,

Xhafer:

reminds him that he's gonna die.

Laura:

yeah.

Laura:

As if he could forget this.

Laura:

Everyone keeps telling him.

Laura:

You're gonna go to Za.

Laura:

If you go to Zaha Doom, you're gonna die.

Laura:

He's not only heard it from Kosh, he's heard it from Future Dalen too.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

And I would think Future Dalen would have a pretty good handle on that.

Laura:

It's her past.

Xhafer:

Right.

Xhafer:

Well, she doesn't say he's gonna die clearly, and he knows that he's

Xhafer:

in the future, so he must survive,

Laura:

yeah.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

But she did tell him don't go.

Xhafer:

yeah.

Xhafer:

Well, yeah.

Xhafer:

She tells him don't go, and we find out why in a couple of episodes.

Laura:

But also he of course, as all humans do in this sort of thing, when

Laura:

you're confronted with that sort of time, travel, past, future, what happens

Laura:

says, well, well, what if it all happened because I listened

Laura:

to her and didn't go to Zaha.

Laura:

So I have to go?

Xhafer:

No.

Xhafer:

No, she would, she would've said, go to Zaha Doom.

Xhafer:

Then if she had figured it all out,

Laura:

yeah.

Xhafer:

but that's

Laura:

travel.

Xhafer:

He gets on the white star with Anna and they head out, and

Xhafer:

then dramatically after he leaves, Franklin reveals that he found

Xhafer:

something wrong with Anna's scans.

Xhafer:

And also Sheridan knows there's something wrong with Anna's scans, like this

Xhafer:

clue's communicated to him before.

Laura:

yeah, we saw at the end of like his conversation with Anna, a screen

Laura:

that showed the two brain images or whatever, so we know it was in his hands.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Sheridan and Anna make it to the shadows base.

Xhafer:

She takes his gun as they head underground, but we know he packed two,

Xhafer:

uh, we saw him pack a second gun already

Xhafer:

and they enter the room with Justin and Mr.

Xhafer:

Morton.

Xhafer:

Sheridan asked Justin, who are you?

Xhafer:

And it's great because he just refuses to answer that specific question.

Xhafer:

He dances around it and doesn't answer it at all.

Xhafer:

it's great.

Xhafer:

It's just like he's, he says a bunch of cryptic shit and then he is like,

Xhafer:

oh, but you can call me Justin.

Laura:

Yeah, it makes him visibly uncomfortable to be asked this question.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

Just like it was visibly uncomfortable for Anna to be on a partially voor on ship.

Laura:

Yes.

Laura:

Yeah, she did not like it.

Laura:

She voiced it a couple of times.

Laura:

I think that she was not comfortable here.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

She didn't even try the bed.

Xhafer:

Right.

Xhafer:

So point of order here.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

How long do you think they're on the white star together?

Laura:

Yeah, that we don't really get a sense of that, do we?

Laura:

Like how long it takes to get from Babylon five to Zaha doom?

Laura:

It happens very fast.

Xhafer:

I feel like this is why we lost our Z minuses, because we were at

Xhafer:

Z minus two days when Anna showed up.

Xhafer:

They can't be on the station together more than 12 hours top.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Like they don't go to bed, you know, there's no sleeping.

Xhafer:

It's the same d she shows up at midnight or whatever, and they get

Xhafer:

on that ship before the end of that.

Laura:

Yeah, totally.

Xhafer:

So that means we are Z minus a day and a half

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

of travel, just hanging out with Anna on the white

Xhafer:

star for a day and a half.

Laura:

It's so strange to me that if that's, if this is true, that Zha Doom

Laura:

and the sight of his wife's demise was a day and a half away this whole time, and

Xhafer:

I mean,

Laura:

was never tempted

Xhafer:

fast, but yeah, it's like I know that there's like a

Xhafer:

consistent set of traveling that the show pretty much adheres to.

Xhafer:

But at the same time, Traveling through hyperspace, JMS has

Xhafer:

been all like, it's different on purpose because hyperspace changes.

Xhafer:

So it's like he's gonna, it's like he set up the thing of it for his own plot

Xhafer:

convenience, so that he wouldn't have to worry about being told by nerds.

Xhafer:

He was wrong the whole time.

Xhafer:

So, so good on him

Xhafer:

for that foresight.

Xhafer:

Having been to a Star Trek convention before making this show clearly,

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

No.

Xhafer:

having sat in the room where people were asking those questions at

Xhafer:

a Star Trek convention before but yeah, it's like a day and a half and like that

Xhafer:

has to be the most awkward car ride ever.

Laura:

Oh yeah.

Laura:

With someone who is like clearly uncomfortable with and disdain your car.

Xhafer:

Right.

Laura:

And that you don't know what they are anymore and

Xhafer:

Yeah, it's a whole thing.

Xhafer:

It's so awkward.

Xhafer:

Anyways, back to where we were.

Xhafer:

Justin gives this whole speech I don't, I tuned it out.

Xhafer:

It sounded like boomer shit.

Xhafer:

Dalen gets her message from Sheridan uh, who notes that, his

Xhafer:

experience in the future from before.

Xhafer:

And as we inform mentioned, you know, maybe we can avoid this thing.

Xhafer:

And just like the raw bravado to just be like, well, pass me fucked up.

Xhafer:

Well future me fucked up and future, you told me that.

Xhafer:

Pass me fucked up, but I'm gonna do better this time.

Laura:

You, yeah.

Laura:

The hubris.

Xhafer:

Right

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

Sheridan, good luck.

Laura:

Uh, yeah.

Laura:

we cut back to Zha Doom and both Justin and Morden are like trying

Laura:

to justify the shadows position.

Laura:

You know, the, the wars and the shadows were the races that stayed behind after a

Laura:

bunch of older races moved on, that they were supposed to shepherd these younger

Laura:

races into something better, I guess.

Xhafer:

yeah.

Xhafer:

This is the worst Anne Rand timeshare pitch in history.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

He just wanted his blender and he's stuck listening

Xhafer:

to this for six hours, I'm sure.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

And the shadow.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Right.

Xhafer:

The shadows are just like, we're just weeding the garden of life or whatever.

Xhafer:

Genocidal, sociopaths tell themselves to sleep at night.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I feel like this is come up in human history before.

Laura:

Hmm.

Laura:

Yikes.

Laura:

They, they say basically that their, the uh, their philosophy is to

Laura:

make others stronger by conflict.

Xhafer:

Yeah,

Xhafer:

let them kill off the weakest and the strongest will flourish.

Xhafer:

And

Xhafer:

that's that's not how any of this works.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

Like if you take 20 minutes to think about survival in a of the fittest

Xhafer:

in any regard that isn't specifically like hunter prey, kind of like who's

Xhafer:

the best at catching dinner style, the second you bring civilization into it,

Xhafer:

the entire thing goes out the window.

Xhafer:

It has no legs to stand on whatsoever.

Xhafer:

And when you then, when you start factoring in things like

Xhafer:

weapons of mass destruction or.

Xhafer:

Guns the, the, the vacuum of space, like all of these things

Xhafer:

are immediately out the window.

Xhafer:

Survival of the fit is, has not applied to civilization in thousands of years.

Xhafer:

And will continue not to.

Xhafer:

And it's just like,

Laura:

there are lots of situations where cooperation trumps strength every

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

I wa I'm trying to think of something I said earlier.

Xhafer:

Not even on this podcast but I think it might've been on my old podcast

Xhafer:

draft of the universe, I said that Thanos has the understanding of a

Xhafer:

15 year old who read the dust jacket of the tragedy of the commons.

Laura:

yeah.

Xhafer:

I feel like the shadows have the understanding of a 15

Xhafer:

year old who read the dust jacket of Darwin, like it's just absurd.

Xhafer:

Like they, they, they heard a thing and they thought they made a connection

Xhafer:

and they've decided to base their entire civilization around it without

Xhafer:

questioning whether or not it was a good idea in the first place.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

The,

Laura:

It reminds me of something I heard once that Economics 1 0 1 has done a

Laura:

terrible amount of damage in our country in the last, you know, couple of decades.

Laura:

Everybody takes Economics 1 0 1 and they think they understand economics, and

Laura:

yeah.

Xhafer:

yeah.

Xhafer:

You, you spend 10 minutes learning about malice and you think you're

Xhafer:

a fucking expert, and you're like, oh, well, disease in war will just

Xhafer:

happen to bring the population down.

Xhafer:

It's like, no, you're, you're a fucking idiot.

Xhafer:

You're, you missed the point entirely.

Xhafer:

Congratulations.

Laura:

Yeah, that's the

Laura:

shadows.

Xhafer:

That's the shadows.

Xhafer:

Ugh.

Xhafer:

Oh God.

Xhafer:

I could rant about people who think they understand economics, but don't.

Xhafer:

For

Xhafer:

literal, I've done it for days.

Xhafer:

Days.

Xhafer:

I've spent days of my life doing this, and I will for the rest of my life.

Xhafer:

Such as the curse of actually studying economics.

Laura:

but on Babylon five, we have a shadow fleet that is descended

Laura:

all of

Laura:

a sudden detected in

Laura:

C N

Laura:

C.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

They just show up.

Xhafer:

They're just here to hang.

Xhafer:

They got the invite, you know, it's four 19.

Xhafer:

They know it's going down.

Xhafer:

They're just ready to hang out, you know, they're like, we

Xhafer:

just showed up a minute early.

Xhafer:

No bigs.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

Big panic in c n C.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

They are not happy about this.

Xhafer:

They are.

Xhafer:

They are fucked and they know it.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

They try reaching out to draw, but they can't get through

Laura:

Yeah, that's, I'm glad we brought that up because draw should be, Draw

Xhafer:

Draw should be firing from, from the planet right now.

Laura:

Yeah, draw shouldn't, should know that they're in distress.

Laura:

Right.

Laura:

Even if they can't reach him, especially if they can't reach him.

Laura:

Right.

Laura:

He can see the shadows right there.

Xhafer:

I think Draw can kind of see everything and so I think the reason Draw

Xhafer:

doesn't act is because he knows it's okay.

Laura:

Oh, he knows that Sheridan's on Zaha doom

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

He knows that this is the backup plan right now and that what he knows, that

Xhafer:

he knows that Sheridan's got the nukes.

Xhafer:

He knows Sheridan's plan.

Xhafer:

He is, I don't think he is concerned for Babylon five.

Xhafer:

And that's why he doesn't just fire,

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

That, that.

Laura:

I will buy that.

Laura:

I'll take some head cannon there.

Xhafer:

The time chair pitch continues.

Xhafer:

The VO ones are fascists, which yes.

Xhafer:

Yes, yes they are.

Xhafer:

But just because you're fighting fascists, actually uh, which, which camera's po

Xhafer:

at Stalin and Dick Cheney right now, I wanna, I wanna make sure they hear this.

Xhafer:

Just because you're fighting fascists doesn't mean you're not a piece of shit,

Laura:

It, these two things don't, aren't necessarily mutually exclusive.

Laura:

Yeah,

Xhafer:

right?

Xhafer:

Just, just because you don't like the fascist doesn't mean that you

Xhafer:

aren't a fascist or a genocide or a terrible sad excuse for existence.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

You can, you can be fighting fascists and also be a fascist like I can.

Xhafer:

Yes, lots of fascists fight fascists.

Xhafer:

They're competition.

Laura:

Good point.

Laura:

So the volans have been unfairly manipulating this, this

Laura:

process and chaos evolution.

Laura:

Is this better idea according to Mr.

Laura:

Morton?

Laura:

they know about the volans seating telepaths around.

Laura:

Which we learned about in book club specifically the,

Laura:

the actual process of that.

Laura:

And uh, yeah, they've, they've decided to get into that.

Laura:

So they've confirmed that they have a presence in Cycore.

Laura:

They've decided to turn these weapons, the volans we're creating against them.

Xhafer:

The shadows are like Sheridan.

Xhafer:

We just want you to get everyone to stop playing.

Xhafer:

Nice.

Xhafer:

Because then humanity will win and that's what you care about, right?

Xhafer:

Humanity winning.

Xhafer:

Humanity's a grace.

Xhafer:

It shows great promise.

Xhafer:

So just let all these other weaker races fight it out.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Some humans will die in the war, but whatever.

Xhafer:

You know, y'all fight amongst yourselves.

Xhafer:

He'll be fine.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

We, we can't just kill you

Laura:

because if we

Xhafer:

Thelen will take your place.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

The, the

Xhafer:

I'm gonna kill Thelen.

Xhafer:

We gotta kill Marcus.

Xhafer:

I'm gonna kill veneer.

Xhafer:

Like the list goes on.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

We need you to go back and so discord instead.

Laura:

You can't, you can't just uh, become a martyr here.

Laura:

And Sheridan's pretty pissed.

Laura:

I mean,

Xhafer:

yeah,

Laura:

this whole episode is Sheridan being in an emotional state of some kind.

Xhafer:

yeah.

Xhafer:

Rightfully so.

Xhafer:

So he plays his hand.

Xhafer:

Look, I know that's not Anna.

Xhafer:

I know she was put into a shadow ship.

Xhafer:

Like I know way more than you think.

Xhafer:

I know.

Xhafer:

And just like I know this shadow is sneaking up on me right now.

Xhafer:

And he grabs his pistol and starts blasting.

Laura:

Yeah, Justin tried to tell him that she chose poorly.

Laura:

So at least he can, you know, go out knowing that the real Anna

Laura:

did not wanna serve the shadows.

Laura:

And so this is literally just her body.

Laura:

And the person he loved didn't dramatically change other than dying,

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

didn't betray him in any

Laura:

way.

Laura:

Yeah, definitely a dramatic change.

Laura:

But she didn't betray him.

Laura:

She didn't betray what he thought she was and the person that she was.

Laura:

So that's gotta be some sort of comfort, right?

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

We Cut over to Kar, who tells us that two nukes are missing, so we can cut back

Xhafer:

over to Sheridan, who's a fucking wreck.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I wanna know what, like what was the fight

Xhafer:

is the implication here?

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Did he just like fight off at least a shadow,

Xhafer:

like an actual shadow, like that was crawling up on him

Xhafer:

with its giant knife hands?

Xhafer:

Did he like fight that thing off?

Xhafer:

Presumably Anna Morden and Justin,

Laura:

Uhhuh.

Xhafer:

like he had to get all, he had to get away from all four

Xhafer:

of them with a, with a pistol.

Xhafer:

And he was surrounded.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Did he like get to beat Morden's ass this time?

Xhafer:

He looks like he was in a physical fight, like he is.

Xhafer:

He is not just br bloodied, he has bruised, like there's been, he's

Xhafer:

been punched like shit has happened.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

he made it out alive and he finds the shadow city.

Xhafer:

He calls down the white star, activates the nukes right as this

Xhafer:

message tells Dalen that he loves her.

Xhafer:

And just before the giant, or just before the white star hits the

Xhafer:

giant skylight in the bathroom, Kashi's voice tells John to jump.

Xhafer:

So he does into the Giant Pit as the nukes go off on Zaha Doom.

Xhafer:

What a fucking sequence.

Laura:

Yeah, this is good.

Xhafer:

It's so good.

Xhafer:

They put it in the theme for next year.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Iconic, if you will,

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

Uh, Yeah.

Xhafer:

This sequence is just like, what a move.

Laura:

that piece of Kosh that Lida detected and said, Hey, there

Laura:

might still be a piece somewhere.

Laura:

That really came in handy, didn't it?

. Xhafer:

It did.

. Xhafer:

And this is the last of it too.

. Xhafer:

I think, I mean, we haven't watched, I haven't watched

. Xhafer:

in a season four in a while.

. Xhafer:

Uh, You know, it's been, been a couple years.

Laura:

It seems

Laura:

Logical way to go out.

Xhafer:

I mean, even Kash is like, he says something along the lines

Xhafer:

of when you go to Zha Doom, well, I'll be with you, but that will be

Xhafer:

the

Laura:

yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Like I will go, this piece of me will live in you

Xhafer:

effectively, and it's going to die at

Xhafer:

Zaha Doom.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

So

Laura:

Yeah, it would've been a nice touch if we could have worked in

Laura:

something about either Anna or the other two, Morden and Justin, like

Laura:

feeling uncomfortable in some way.

Laura:

Like they could kind of feel Kosh and makes them not happy.

Xhafer:

I would vibe with that.

Xhafer:

If they weren't so anti telepath,

Laura:

Huh.

Xhafer:

like I think the way you would've done it is if Ster

Xhafer:

had shown up between Kosh dying.

Xhafer:

And Sheridan going.

Xhafer:

And when he like was in the room with Sheridan, like Sheridan like

Xhafer:

was glowing or something, like there was something different about him

Xhafer:

that he like physically saw, not like an active scan, which would

Xhafer:

set off a whole other conversation.

Xhafer:

But like if we had had a scene where we had like seen Sheridan through Buster's

Xhafer:

eyes and he was like cooling or something,

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

think that

Xhafer:

could've been Or

Xhafer:

maybe had wings, like angel wings or something.

Xhafer:

Like you can do some, a couple things with it to make him look a little more vlan.

Laura:

Yeah,

Xhafer:

would've been a lot of fun.

Laura:

yeah.

Xhafer:

Anyways, the Shadow Ships retreat and Ivano takes it as

Xhafer:

a sign that Sheridan is dead.

Xhafer:

Uh, The only reason they would leave leave is if we're no longer a threat.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Uh Oh.

Xhafer:

And then Kar gives us our end of the year wrap up.

Xhafer:

It's the end of 2260.

Xhafer:

My favorite line to this is it's the universe is holding.

Xhafer:

Its.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

That was good.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Corwin can't raise the white star.

Laura:

Turns

Laura:

out,

Laura:

one, one of the fighters that scrambled to try to save babbel on five from all

Laura:

those shadow ships didn't come back

Laura:

and it was Mr.

Laura:

Garabaldi.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

And we see him in a shadow, like we see his star fighter in a shadow ship.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Not a good sign.

Laura:

And uh, then we end on the smoking crater of Zaha with a couple of shadow ships.

Laura:

Flying around, assessing the situation, perhaps.

Laura:

So very bleak way to end a season.

Xhafer:

Yeah, I mean, the name of the season was point of no return.

Xhafer:

It feels like we hit a couple of those, and this episode is for sure one of

Xhafer:

'em.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Well, you had teased us a little bit at the start with a hint

Xhafer:

as to your rating of this episode.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And so I'd really like to hear your rating of this episode

Xhafer:

on scale of babylon's one to five.

Laura:

before I put numbers on it specifically I said, That sloppy

Laura:

was not the word I would use for a specific part of this episode.

Laura:

Right.

Laura:

A word I would use for this episode is rushed.

Laura:

Everything felt rushed and when you know the context of what

Laura:

was going on with the show.

Laura:

And we think we're not gonna get a fifth season, so

Laura:

we're trying to cr I thought it had,

Xhafer:

Okay.

Xhafer:

I'm not a hundred percent sure I'd believe it.

Xhafer:

But it does, the episode definitely felt the pacing was

Xhafer:

not as solid as some other ones.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

It feels

Laura:

like we were cramming too much story into this spot.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

But I also don't feel like this needs to be a two-parter.

Xhafer:

Um, I feel like this episode needed 10 minutes,

Laura:

like

Xhafer:

five, 10 more minutes.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

And it would've been great, but that was a lot harder to do back in the day,

Laura:

Yeah, that's true.

Laura:

You know, in streaming world, we can just tack out another 10 minutes.

Laura:

Who cares what,

Xhafer:

yeah.

Xhafer:

Who, who cares how long the episode is?

Laura:

You're not short-changing any advertisers.

Laura:

You're not running into the next show.

Laura:

Like, it's fine.

Laura:

But I don't know, I, I do feel like I needed more than one

Laura:

episode with Anna Sheridan.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

I feel like we could have established her a little bit better

Laura:

and, and maybe had a little more like mystery about, what happened to her.

Laura:

Is she really real?

Laura:

Is she not real?

Laura:

Like we could kind of like 20 minutes of that and then we

Laura:

know exactly what's going on.

Laura:

I felt like there could have been a little more with.

Laura:

I agree with you about the nukes, like maybe the nukes could have

Laura:

been planted a little earlier.

Laura:

Um, If we'd had two episodes, we could have kind of done that.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

I, the way I remember this story, this part of the

Laura:

story, I almost do remember it.

Laura:

Like it was more than one episode.

Laura:

A little bit longer on Z Hadum even could have

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Laura:

Like all of that kind of comes down to maybe another 20 minutes.

Xhafer:

yeah.

Xhafer:

You know, maybe you could cut a little bit of stuff out of, and the rock cried out.

Xhafer:

No hiding place.

Xhafer:

You know, get, get something about the nukes there before Jaar leaves maybe,

Xhafer:

or maybe he can't have those if he knows he's going to home world that

Xhafer:

might add a complication to things.

Xhafer:

Whatever you could figure that out.

Xhafer:

You know, do that.

Xhafer:

Move a couple things out of there.

Xhafer:

Maybe cut a little bit out of the Franklin walk about stuff to just

Xhafer:

get like a little bit of breathing room at the end of the episode.

Xhafer:

And then when share, when Anna shows, when Anna Sheridan shows

Xhafer:

up, do a little bit more with it.

Xhafer:

Move that conversation from the start of this episode and the flashback

Xhafer:

stuff to the end of that episode.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

And then get yourself a little bit more space in this

Xhafer:

one to do a couple of things.

Xhafer:

But

Xhafer:

I mean that we're playing 3D chess now, like it's all over the place.

Xhafer:

There's all kinds of considerations to be made.

Laura:

And, and we have the benefit of like, storytelling

Laura:

has changed in 30 years,

Xhafer:

because of this show, so we can only give it so much shit.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

So all that said, like, I feel like it was rushed.

Laura:

I wish certain parts of it had been a little more, but this

Laura:

is still a very solid episode.

Laura:

I don't know if I can give it five out of five, cuz I have those criticisms

Laura:

that like, ah, I wish there was more, but it's definitely four out of five for me.

Laura:

I mean, it's solid.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

No, I had it a four and a half.

Xhafer:

It's a great episode.

Xhafer:

I really would've liked to have seen the fight with Sheridan

Xhafer:

and the three of them in the shadow.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

But that's my only real, like, heavy complaint.

Xhafer:

And maybe that was, you know, all, we had the giant action

Xhafer:

sequence a couple episodes ago with the big shadow fleet fight.

Xhafer:

So maybe you didn't want to do another one so soon.

Xhafer:

Maybe they couldn't afford to,

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

there's, there's, it's the end of the season so you, you know,

Xhafer:

how many c g dollars you've got left.

Xhafer:

So maybe it was a budgeting thing.

Xhafer:

I don't know.

Xhafer:

It just felt a little off, out of like that scene.

Xhafer:

But besides that, four and a half outta five.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

Alright, well that's our season.

Laura:

It is.

Laura:

So what do we have coming up?

Xhafer:

well we've got a couple things listener.

Xhafer:

If you've been with us since the beginning or gone back and are listening through,

Xhafer:

you'll know that we have a little bit of a different cadence when we get to the end

Xhafer:

of the season than our normal episodes.

Xhafer:

We're not gonna go straight into season four episode one.

Xhafer:

We're gonna do a season three recap next week.

Xhafer:

The week after, we're gonna have a book club, which is gonna be

Xhafer:

the Cycore Trilogy book two.

Xhafer:

We're then gonna take two weeks off for our own sanity and uh, editing

Xhafer:

catch up and to give us a little bit more leeway with the baby.

Xhafer:

Uh, That, that, that's our excuse this time.

Xhafer:

We only get, we only get to use that the once, but we take two weeks off

Xhafer:

at the end of every season anyways.

Xhafer:

And then after those four weeks, between the two episodes and the two weeks of

Xhafer:

break, we'll be back with season four episode one, which is Hour of the Wolf.

Xhafer:

But I'll read the episode description

Laura:

Yeah, leave us hanging just like this cliff hanger

Laura:

at the end of the season.

Laura:

Did, although, did you look at on your, I guess you're on Voodoo, right?

Xhafer:

Yes.

Laura:

Did you look at the episodes on Voodoo?

Laura:

Does it have the air dates all of your episodes?

Xhafer:

I have no idea.

Laura:

Okay.

Laura:

Because we noticed on, we were watching on iTunes or, or the Apple tv, whatever you

Laura:

call it these days that the air dates for end of season three, beginning of season

Laura:

four, were remarkably close together.

Xhafer:

really.

Laura:

Yeah, and I guess I should have Googled it before I sat down

Laura:

here, but I'm gonna do it now and try to figure out if that was right,

Laura:

because it was like season three.

Laura:

This episode was like October of 1996, and the next one was in November of 1996.

Laura:

I'm gonna

Xhafer:

That's real tight.

Xhafer:

If they, if it was that tight.

Xhafer:

Then that would check out with the uh, the counting clock of the show

Xhafer:

and the whole season four thing.

Laura:

Yes.

Laura:

Okay, I'm confirming it.

Laura:

I am looking on the Babylon five fandom Wiki,

Laura:

Zaha Doom, season three episode 2022.

Laura:

First aired October 28th, 1996, the Hour of the Wolf, season four,

Laura:

episode one, November 4th, 1990.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

That's not how I remember TV working in the nineties, but I was a child.

Xhafer:

See January to October for season one.

Xhafer:

November to August for season two.

Xhafer:

November to September for season three.

Xhafer:

November to October for season four, and then January to November for season five.

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

So they must have been taking.

Xhafer:

Long breaks in between airings at that point, cuz they're, that's like, that's

Xhafer:

not running an episode every week.

Xhafer:

You know,

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Laura:

Okay.

Xhafer:

like you're having to skip

Laura:

Yeah, I'm

Xhafer:

cuz.

Xhafer:

Oh yeah.

Xhafer:

Oh yeah.

Xhafer:

Look at it.

Xhafer:

So I just pulled up all the dates.

Xhafer:

So War without End part two, May 20th Walk, about September 30th.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

Interesting.

Xhafer:

Um, Although it did air in August 18th in the uk So that's,

Xhafer:

that's your big jump right there.

Xhafer:

So they probably saved these episodes to start the next one.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

That's why there's so little break, cuz Yeah.

Xhafer:

It's, it's October 28th.

Xhafer:

November 4th.

Xhafer:

That's, that's next week.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

a week

Xhafer:

So they just, So they just, end effectively.

Xhafer:

They ended the.

Xhafer:

At War Without End, and then you had to wait your five months

Xhafer:

for the last five episodes.

Xhafer:

Oh, that's some real sci-fi channel shit.

Laura:

Yeah.

Laura:

I mean, you know, I just, I was a child at that time, so I didn't have the context

Laura:

of like why the network would be doing these things or even what they were doing.

Laura:

Like you just hear.

Laura:

Oh,

Laura:

well, it's

Laura:

gonna be a

Laura:

while.

Xhafer:

It's all over the place.

Laura:

It just goes to show you how spoiled we are now with this, the

Laura:

streaming environment where sometimes things will drop all at once.

Laura:

There's a few of the networks that are stringing some things out,

Laura:

like, you know, new Star Treks are one a week and when H B O Max is

Laura:

doing a Game of Thrones, one a week.

Laura:

But we're really spoiled with all these shows that drop all at once.

Laura:

And then these podcasts that record every week.

Xhafer:

You know what else?

Xhafer:

We're really spoiled with

Laura:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

theme music from Jeremy Siegel.

Laura:

We really are.

Laura:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

You can find more of Jeremy's work at Jeremy Siegel 40 two.bandcamp.com.

Xhafer:

Also on the Spotify uh, nuclear Jaguar wire.

Xhafer:

Has the March album dropped yet?

Xhafer:

It has not.

Laura:

And not at the time of recording, but it will be out before this episode.

Laura:

I am

Xhafer:

I'm sure.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

As, as if it, if it's, if it's happening.

Xhafer:

I haven't talked to Jeremy about it.

Xhafer:

Uh, cuz my Facebook friend request is still pending Jeremy.

Laura:

Oh, rude.

Laura:

I'll say something.

Xhafer:

But I, I did actually, I sat down with both the albums

Xhafer:

the other day and they're great.

Xhafer:

I really liked them a lot.

Xhafer:

I really liked there it is an ebb and flow off January.

Xhafer:

It was really good.

Laura:

And I know

Laura:

March is in process cuz I have seen some postings about it.

Xhafer:

Okay,

Xhafer:

cool.

Xhafer:

I'm looking forward to it.

Laura:

and uh, also we're spoiled with great podcast artwork from Angry Deck Time

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

Thank you Angry duck time machine.

Xhafer:

Thank you Aaron for editing our podcast and putting up

Xhafer:

with our collective bullshit.

Xhafer:

Like,

Xhafer:

Xhafer:

can't imagine liking a podcast on Twitter and then getting blocked by them.

Xhafer:

Laura:

Hmm.

Xhafer:

Don't post hateful shit on the internet.

Xhafer:
