Nathan:

And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye?

Jesus. Matthew 7:3, 4. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 24 of 30 Days on the Mount of Blessing, PT 2.

I give myself plenty of room to make mistakes and grow—I imagine it’s like giving myself a six-lane highway, and even then, I make excuses for why I veer off the road and crash into guard rails. I was tired. I have too much to do at work. She gets on my nerves. I couldn’t help it. The devil made me do it—along with a host of other excuses. On the other hand, when I look at those around me? I give them a narrow racetrack and deduct points every time they even come remotely close to the shoulder. And do so, all the while feeling very successful because of how I handle my little car on the empty six-lane highway. Sound ridiculous? It is. That’s why Jesus calls us out. Others deserve no less room to be human than we give ourselves. I’d argue, in fact, that Jesus teaches us to give others more room. I get a six-lane highway—they get at least a ten-lane. Wait, should I even be counting the lanes on their highway?
