Ever heard of Iris Apfel, the 101 year old fashion icon? Well, she’s got some great decorating advice for all of us. I’m Dan Hansen and this is a Minute at RepcoLite.
Last time I talked about a quote I heard Iris give and it’s this: the biggest mistake people make when it comes to fashion is to look in the mirror and see someone else.
I love that quote because it relates to more than just fashion. It also pinpoints a key mistake people make when decorating. We all do it. We go to a friend’s house and see a beautifully decorated space–the perfect colors, cool furniture, you name it. We snap a picture of it, ask the paint color, and often leave with the intention of making that space happen in our home.
Or we see friends and designers on Instagram, people on TV, you name it . . . they design spaces we love and we record the colors, take screenshots of the layout, and plan to do that in our home.
But while it can work and look nice . . . we’re missing something HUGE if we do that: Us. I’ll explain next time. I’m Dan Hansen and that’s a Minute at RepcoLite.
