Netflix dabbling into the superhero world takes on a new face in Mark Miller's TV adaptation of the comic Jupiter's Legacy.
Trying to imitate the likes of The Boys without the pizzazz, blood and guts, and a sense of its own humourless self-importance, here lie the bones of an intriguing story, if you can get past the annoyance of the constant random flashbacks interrupting its flow of course.

This first generation superhero gang are known as the Union of Justice, with the utopian Lady Liberty played by Leslie Bibb and Brainwave played by Ben Daniels as the leaders of the pack. The Utopian and his mop top of ageing rocker hair is stuck in the past and stuck on the Union's code of not killing another being, which they tend to bang on about a copious amount of times throughout the whole series. Thanks to the escape of supervillain Darkstar, the next generation of heroes are split on the outdated code when a number of their friends are killed; no more so than Brandon played by Andrew Horton, who just happens to be Utopian and Lady Liberty's son, and he can frustratingly do no right in his father's eyes. Then there is their daughter Chloe played by Elena Kampouris, again majorly pissed off at never being good enough for her father, she wants nothing to do with The Union, despite her powers, but would rather sleep around and indulge in a dangerous amount of alcohol and drugs.
We do have a satisfying amount of superhero battles with super strength, laser-shooting eyes and the old psychic mind capture, and a major twist or two, but volume one is about building the foundation of what to expect in the following volumes. Just as the story gets juicy it ends, and whilst it starkness resembles DC it tries hard to unpack parallels with the divided world we live in today. The issue is, should this type of entertainment remind us of the shitshow of our own world, but create one we can escape to.
