When you are dealing with relentless daily chaos, cleaning up messes, trying to protect your kids, and fighting an exhausting mental battle that whispers you aren't doing enough, it is incredibly easy to feel defeated. But what if you were never meant to fight this heavy battle alone?

In this episode of the Arise Women of God podcast, host Tamara K. Anderson is joined by author and mother of six Kari Anjewierden to share practical, biblical strategies for the battlefield of motherhood. We dive into Exodus 17 to discover why even the great prophet Moses needed a support team to hold up his hands, and how you can assemble your own spiritual backup! Tamara opens up about her deeply personal journey of raising two sons with severe autism and shares the profound whisper from God that finally broke the enemy's crushing comparison trap in her mind.

You will also learn how the adversary targets our specific vulnerabilities and how our Lord Jesus Christ provides a highly personalized, custom battle strategy for your exact situation, just like He did for David against Goliath. Tune in to stop fighting in your own exhaustion, drop the heavy armor of comparison, and claim your family's victory today!

Episode Takeaways

  • You Can't Fight Alone (Exodus 17): When the Israelites fought in the valley, Moses stood on the hill holding up the rod of God. But when Moses grew exhausted, the enemy gained ground! Even a great prophet needed Aaron and Hur to hold up his hands. You must assemble your own support team of human angels to help you fight for your family.
  • The Enemy's Deceptive Strategy (2 Corinthians 11): The adversary does not fight fair. He transforms himself into an angel of light and uses deception, accusations, and strategic interference to target our weakest vulnerabilities and cause shame.
  • God's Personalized Strategy (1 Samuel 17): You cannot fight your spiritual battles using someone else's mold. Just as David had to shed King Saul's heavy armor to defeat Goliath, you must ask God for a custom strategy designed for your specific family and trial.
  • Break the Comparison Trap: The enemy wants you living in the misery of comparing your household to everyone else's. When you fix your eyes on Jesus, He gives you the gift of perspective to see the unique blessings and miracles hidden in your "normal."

Reflection Questions

  • Who are the "human angels" (like Aaron and Hur) that God has placed in your life to help hold up your hands when you are exhausted? Have you asked for their help?
  • Are you currently trying to fight your spiritual battles using "someone else's armor" instead of asking God for a customized strategy for your unique family?
  • How has the adversary been using the "comparison trap" to drain your joy, and how can you reframe your perspective today?

The Arise Women of God Podcast hello, and welcome back to the Arise Women of God Podcast. I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson, and joining me today is my wonderful friend Kari Anjewierden.

Kari's an author, speaker, and mother of six who knows firsthand what it takes to find God's miracles in the middle of life's heaviest battles. And so I'm thankful to have her with me today as we talk about how do I fight against spiritual warfare?

Here's what we're going to talk about in today's episode. First, the fighting mandate why Nehemiah 4:14 reminds us who we are fighting for and why you were never meant to hold hold up your hands alone.

Second, we will talk about the enemy's strategy versus God's strategy, and Carrie's going to break down. Second Corinthians 11 about how the master deceiver operates.

Third, we'll talk about ditching the comparison trap where I will share my personal story of parenting two boys with autism and the divine whisper that freed my mind. Finally, we will share how the adversary targets you and your calling as a wife, mom, friend, and how Jesus Christ strengthens our weaknesses.

All right, let's begin with the mandate of why we fight and the vital truth that you cannot fight alone. When you're in the middle of a thick spiritual warfare battle, exhaustion will tempt you to just throw in the towel.

That is why we need to anchor ourselves in Nehemiah 4:14. Be not ye afraid of them. Remember the Lord, which is great and terrible.

And fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, or your husbands and your houses. Notice where your focus should be remembering the Lord and remembering who you are fighting for. Sometimes our mama bear comes out, doesn't it?

We want to fight and protect our family. You're fighting for their souls and for the peace in your home.

Look at how this battle is won in Exodus 17, 8, 13 when the Amalekites attacked Israel, Joshua fought in the valley while Moses stood up on the hill holding, holding up the rod of God. Whenever Moses held his hands up, Israel prevailed. But when his hands grew heavy from exhaustion, the enemy gained ground.

Moses was a prophet of God, yet he could not hold up his hands alone. Aaron and Hur brought a stone for him to sit on and stood on either side, holding his hand steady until sunset, which meant the Israelites won.

I lived this reality years ago when my son Nathan was diagnosed with autism. And then just one year later, our son Jacob was also diagnosed with autism.

My home felt like a daily battle zone, both for their physical safety and my own sanity.

They didn't sleep well, so I was running on empty from before sunrise until long after dark, cleaning poop out of the carpet, chasing three year old Jacob before he jumped our backyard fence into the street, trying to communicate with a tantruming Nathan and caring for two other children. To say I was weary is an understatement. How did I survive? You may be wondering. First, I leaned on God heavily.

Second, my husband stood on one side of me and I'm so thankful for that. Third, God dispatched human angels to hold up my other side.

For example, Mrs. B, our incredible autism teacher who taught me how to create schedules for non verbal children.

Our local autism support group in Bentonville, Arkansas also helped me because they were parents who were just a few years ahead of me and had learned some practical hacks that they shared.

Another angel was a wonderful teenage girl from church named Melissa who stepped in and helped me during those summer months when I simply did not have enough hands. Sister, hear me clearly. Do not try to fight this battle alone. Trust in God and ask him to send you helpers to hold up your your hands.

Now, as you stand on the battle line, you must understand who you are up against. The adversary does not fight fairer. He uses disguise and strategy.

Let's listen to Kari explain why we need God's personalized strategy to counter the.

Kari Anjewierden:

Deceiver, his, the devil and those demonic forces that are in direct spiritual conflict. They are deception accusations and just straight out attacks. And if you don't know to expect that, you're going to find yourself in trouble. Right?

So in Second Corinthians:

The adversary has strategy and we also need to have strategy to Combat. You can't fight a war without some kind of way to fight back against what is coming at you.

And so having a strategy and God's scriptures are full of strategy and praying brings strategy. God can tell us what we need individually.

Tamara K. Anderson:

Oh my goodness, guys. Kari is so right. God knows the exact custom strategy you need. Just ask. Think of the story of David before Goliath.

In 1st Samuel 17, King Saul tried to put his heavy armor on David, but David couldn't even walk in it. David had to shed Saul's armor and fight using the simple tools God had trained him with, declaring the battle is the Lord's.

You cannot fight your spiritual battles using someone else's mold. During those exhausting early years with my boys, my biggest battle was in my mind. Ladies.

Prayer was my primary lifeline and I poured out my raw, aching heart before God. Lord, I am so tired. Why do I have two kids with autism? Wasn't one enough? Why can't we just be a normal family?

I'm thankful I kept that connection open with God because I was spiritually hungry and thirsty. And one day a quiet divine whisper pierced my heart. Tamara, this is normal for you. That is the day the lights went on in my mind.

That whisper instantly broke the enemy's comparison trap. Satan wanted me living in the misery of comparing my household to any everybody else's. But God gave me the gift of perspective.

Stop looking at others and look at the unique gifts in your family. Stop seeing it as a curse and start looking for the blessings and miracles. That single truth changed the entire battlefield. In my mind.

When you focus on Jesus Christ, he frees you from comparison and teaches you how to fight your specific battle with confidence in him, that it eventually leads to peace and joy. Oh my friends, the adversary also likes to attack.

When we are stepping into our divine callings as a spouse, wife, mom, friend or sister, he tries to convince us that our vulnerabilities or insecurities disqualify us. Let's head back to Kari as she shares how Satan targets our weak spots and how God can turn them into strengths.

Kari Anjewierden:

Satan, he targets intentional interference to help disrupt our faith, our belief, our purpose, our peace.

In John 8 and Revelations, it talks about him targeting key moments when you're trying to step into a God given calling or experiencing some kind of physical weakness or seeking reconciliation, or in my situation the last six months, all three of those situations. He tries to bring in the shame.

He tries to bring in the doubt and those whisperings that you know, the mind chatter of who are you to think that you can do this or you already know what they think of you. And the way that Satan generally works is to put all three of those together because that is those chinks in the armor, right?

That's those Achilles heels where we're vulnerable.

And unfortunately the adversary knows those vulnerabilities and unless we're paying attention, it's going to be easier for him to be able to attack and affect us in our weakest places. Which is why we need God because He also knows our strength and he knows how to strengthen those weaknesses.

And he's the only one that can help us do that because he sees all when we can't see.

Tamara K. Anderson:

Oh my dear friend, my dear sister, when you know how to fight, leaning on God, locking arms with your support team and letting the Lord strengthen strengthen your weak spots. The adversary cannot defeat you.

If you want a step by step roadmap to fortify your home, identify the enemy strategies and close those vulnerable doors in your household.
