The Red Hawks entered the game laser-focused and came away with their first district championship in 24 years, defeating Sandusky 49-30. Senior Mike Fernald finished with a season-high 24 points and season-long pacer, Carter Patrick completed the district championship with 19 points. Cass City had only two other scorers in the book for the night: Riley Swiderski with 4 made free throws on 6 attempts and Evan Clark with one made basket for two points.
Sandusky was led by their big man, Jackson Kartanys with 13 points and Caleb Minard at 8, Brenden Long with 5 and Kyle Guibord with 4 points. All scorers for Sandusky on Friday were seniors.
Cass City now advances to the Region 24 Semi-Final to take on Flint Beecher at USA High School on Monday, March 13 at 7pm. Beecher has won nine state championships in its school history.
