The difference between a practice owner and a CEO isn't what she knows. It's how she decides. And most of the weight you're carrying right now belongs to decisions you could undo next week.

You were trained to decide under pressure, with almost no information and very little time. A lot of us started in crisis work — I spent my early career in victim services, on call with the RCMP and we got very, very good at it. That skill is now the instrument you reach for on a Tuesday afternoon when nothing is on fire.

Before any of the deliberation starts, there's one question: if this goes wrong, can I undo it? Some decisions are a two-way door — you try the thing, and if it doesn't hold, you walk back through next week. A five-year lease is a one-way door. Most of us treat every decision like a one-way door.
