This week, we've got an industry update, meeting deadlines, elections.

And award-winning students.

The new issue of scoring boxes will be available later today.

Scoring boxes is written by Dick store at the president of

Richard store and associates.

According to Dick's August report.

The U S economy showed surprising strengthen in the second quarter.

As GDP grew at a 2.2% annual rate.

In Q2 of 2023.

Up from 2% in this year's first quarter and significantly above

the second quarter of last year, which was 0.6% to the negative.

Spending on nondurable consumer goods rose by 0.4% during June.

But production of non-durable goods declined by 1% in June as

inventory reduction continued.

Personal incomes grew by an inflation adjusted 0.3% in June.

Still tracking closely with the 0.4% gain and consumer outlays.

Most of consumer spending was directed towards services where recovery

of spending continues to be strong compared to that spent for goods.

One factor for stronger economic activity than expected has

been the residual COVID fiscal.

Stimulus granted by the government in 2020 and 2021.

However recent data on record high us loan and credit card balances could signal

that economic impact from the pandemic stimulus money is nearing its end.

through the AICC emerging leader program.

Emerging leader, activities and events are led by their delegates.

Each year.

A new delegate is elected by their peers in the program.

This year, the AICC emerging leaders have selected Evan Clary.

delegate, Jordan Dawson of Harris packaging on the ER leadership team.

The annual AICC student packaging design competition concluded with resounding

success, highlighting the exceptional talent and creativity of students in the

field of corrugated packaging design.

The competition has two distinct categories, structure and design.

And it sheds light on the future of the corrugated packaging industry.

Participants were tasked with creating a hardware shipper box.

That could safely transport assorted items, including traditional light bulbs,

a hammer, and a box of nails all while enduring the rigors of courier delivery.

The event offers AICC members and packaging professionals, a glimpse

into the designs that will shape the industry's landscape in the years to come.

The first place team in the structure category came from

Dunwoody college of technology.

And first place and graphic design went to a team from the

university of Texas Arlington.

The winners will join us at the AICC fall meeting and make connections with

independent converters who can bring them on board, their teams in the feature.
