The weather changes. The mountain does not. An old meditation of mine, back by request, for when everything outside you is going off.

About 18 minutes, ending on the singing bowl.

You picture a mountain in real detail, the trees, the snow, the clouds sitting on top of it. Then you let it become you. Storms arrive on the outside and it stays exactly where it is. I leave you sitting in that for a couple of minutes and keep an eye on the clock.

Treat me to a coffee, keep the podcast free, and get my Weekly Calm every Sunday. It is all on stevenwebb.uk

Thank you for sitting with me.

Transcripts

Steven Webb:

Welcome to the Stillness Meditation. This is where we use the image of a mountain to help to ground ourselves

Steven Webb:

and deal with whatever comes our way. This is an older meditation of mine that I was just reminded

Steven Webb:

that isn't on the podcast, so I've added it here today. So thank you to the person that reached out

Steven Webb:

to me to let me know. and If anybody wants to reach out, please feel free. The links in the

Steven Webb:

show notes below. StevenWebb.uk. And you can also find my other podcast, Stillness in the Storms.

Steven Webb:

As well as how you can support keeping these meditations free for everybody and to help everybody have a little

Steven Webb:

bit more stillness in life. So please enjoy the mountain meditation.

Steven Webb:

So let's just get comfortable and invite our bodies to relax. And you can gently close your

Steven Webb:

eyes if you wish or just soften your gaze just a couple of feet in front of you.

Steven Webb:

If we take a deep breath and raise our arms above our heads, and as we relax and let the

Steven Webb:

breath out, slowly lower our arms either side of our bodies and let them relax on the thighs of our

Steven Webb:

legs. As we just settle into this upright posture where our backs up straight and

Steven Webb:

you

Steven Webb:

can imagine there's a little cord above our heads

Steven Webb:

just dangling down and holding us upright with our chin tucked in slightly.

Steven Webb:

And as we bring our focus and our attention to our breath, just recognise that we're breathing in and we're

Steven Webb:

breathing out.

Steven Webb:

Breathing in calm. Breathing out relax

Steven Webb:

You may notice some areas of tension somewhere in your body.

Steven Webb:

Just Imagine them relaxing and fading away as you breathe out.

Steven Webb:

Everything is well in this moment. You don't have to do anything. Just sit and invite your body to relax

Steven Webb:

and stay alert and present but relaxed at the same time.

Steven Webb:

If you find your mind wanders, just smile and thank it for the story and bring it back to your

Steven Webb:

breathing.

Steven Webb:

If you miss any part of this meditation, it really doesn't matter.

Steven Webb:

Just come back and join in whenever you realise that you've been wandering.

Steven Webb:

Imagine a mountain. Maybe local or maybe some picture of a mountain.

Steven Webb:

And imagine it in lots of detail. One that resonates with you. One that you feel like you could be

Steven Webb:

part of.

Steven Webb:

Imagine the details of maybe it has trees.

Steven Webb:

Perhaps it has snow near the top.

Steven Webb:

And you can imagine the clouds up above it.

Steven Webb:

Maybe there's a lake.

Steven Webb:

A mountain that you particularly thinks really beautiful and the way it sits in the earth and it feels

Steven Webb:

grounded and still and calm.

Steven Webb:

Notice how the mountains stay serenely calm no matter what the weather is on the outside.

Steven Webb:

No matter what's happening, the mountain stays grounded. And it stays still.

Steven Webb:

Now imagine this mountain becoming part of you inside. So you are now this mountain.

Steven Webb:

You're connected and grounded to the earth.

Steven Webb:

You're strong and you're stable and no matter what weather on the outside comes your way,

Steven Webb:

You're able to handle it.

Steven Webb:

You're prepared and you're ready.

Steven Webb:

You are the stillness no matter what goes on in your life.

Steven Webb:

We are often battered by our emotions and our thoughts.

Steven Webb:

Yet when we become still and

Steven Webb:

serenely calm, we're able to handle whatever the weather is, whatever the thoughts, whatever the

Steven Webb:

emotions that come our way.

Steven Webb:

See the qualities of this mountain

Steven Webb:

And imagine those qualities in you.

Steven Webb:

The serenely calm. The

Steven Webb:

stillness.

Steven Webb:

The unwavering groundedness.

Steven Webb:

The beautiful nature of the growth on the outside

Steven Webb:

And the strength and stillness from inside.

Steven Webb:

These are all beautiful qualities that you possess. And

Steven Webb:

when we slow down and take a deep breath and recognise these qualities, it means we are ready for whatever

Steven Webb:

life or whatever thoughts or emotions come our way.

Steven Webb:

There's also a beautiful richness and quality too all the life on the mountain.

Steven Webb:

What makes the mountain beautiful?

Steven Webb:

From the trees, to the birds, to the snow and the clouds above.

Steven Webb:

All of this richness

Steven Webb:

makes up who you are.

Steven Webb:

I'm going to leave you with this feeling of the mountain for a couple of minutes. I will keep an

Steven Webb:

eye on the time. Just imagine the qualities of the mountain throughout your whole body and your life

Steven Webb:

moment we're going to come back and I want you to feel this quality of strength, this unwavering presence,

Steven Webb:

this ability to stand tall no matter what the weather is on the outside.

Steven Webb:

I want you to bring this quality back with you and to project it to the rest of your day.

Steven Webb:

In a moment I'm going to come back from five And at the end I will just bring my singing

Steven Webb:

bowl. And that will signal us to come back to the present moment and bring this quality of stillness

Steven Webb:

and strength and groundedness back with us.

Steven Webb:

Five. Four. Open your eyes gently. Three.

Steven Webb:

Shake out your arms. Move your body a little bit to Take a deep breath. And

Steven Webb:

one. Release it with a little more energy.

Steven Webb:

Thank you. I'm Steven Webb, your host of Stillness in the Storms podcast, and you can find that on
