Traveling can get expensive at times. Add in traveling around the holidays and you’re looking at even more expenses. What are some ways that we can be cost-efficient this year while still traveling to see our loved ones?
It’s time to really start thinking about holiday travel and a few suggestions that I have for holiday travel this year is:
1) Book everything refundable.
- Be sure that if you need a refund or unforseen circumstances happen, that a refundable booking is available to you.
2) Insurance Policies
- Cancel for any reason insurance policies
- If your trip is non-refundable, get an insurance policy that allows you to cancel for any reason.
- Peril insurance
- 2 providers that I have found that provide peril travel insurance (included in links below). You can select a policy specifically outlining these perils such as if you have a rock hit your windshield in the rental car, it covers the car.
- When looking at these insurance policies, be sure that it is worth getting a policy to begin with. For instance, if you found cheap plane tickets but they are non-refundable, it may be worth it to get the insurance policy.
3) Don’t travel during holiday season
- This is another idea if you are trying to be cost-efficient.
- Choose to travel in January and February to see family after the holiday is over - rates are typically lower.
- If you do travel during the holiday season, see if you can stay with family or even drive to them rather than fly.
-
Plan ahead but stay flexible during this holiday season! What are some ways that you are being cost-efficient while traveling this holiday season?
