Torrey:Hello, my aspiring modern humanitarian development leader.
Torrey:I hope you're having a wonderful week.
Torrey:And this is just a really quick episode to give you some exciting
Torrey:news and ideas for 2025 as you plan your training schedule and what you
Torrey:plan on doing over the next year.
Torrey:So one is that my goal if you don't already know it is to create a movement
Torrey:of humanitarian and development leaders who don't necessarily have to be at
Torrey:the top, but understand that they have the influence, no matter how
Torrey:small a team you have, or a sphere of influence you have, you still
Torrey:have the ability to create change.
Torrey:And my goal is to help, especially those who graduate from my course Becoming
Torrey:the Modern Humanitarian and Development Leader to form a kind of movement together
Torrey:to start to change the development and humanitarian sector from the inside out.
Torrey:And what I mean by that is to create a culture of very caring and
Torrey:empathetic leaders who understand how to empower their teams.
Torrey:Who understand how to create an even bigger impact.
Torrey:While also stepping away from the overwork and overwhelm and the hustle culture.
Torrey:This is what I hope, that I can help all the graduates from my course,
Torrey:especially the alumni to achieve.
Torrey:And to start to change the culture of their organization so that more and
Torrey:more of us realize that we can make a bigger impact when we slow down.
Torrey:And we focus on people over results.
Torrey:And I think this is what we need in the humanitarian and development
Torrey:sectors when it comes to all the changes that we're seeing with localization
Torrey:and decolonization and so on.
Torrey:To be this type of leader, you need to have a certain way of
Torrey:thinking -a certain way of leading.
Torrey:And that is what I teach in the course.
Torrey:What I see is a lot of my alumni are already influencing those around them to
Torrey:do the same and to Create more impact without the overwork and overwhelm.
Torrey:So that is one thing that I'm very excited about is as I grow the course, as I grow
Torrey:the number of students who graduate, I'm able to create that even more.
Torrey:And part of the way I'm doing that is several different
Torrey:initiatives that I have going on.
Torrey:One will be the launch that I do through my email list where you find out that
Torrey:course registration is open and so on.
Torrey:But also I am partnering with Humentum and we will probably be doing a podcast
Torrey:episode about this in the next month.
Torrey:And this is a very exciting partnership for me.
Torrey:I think it has a lot of win-win here.
Torrey:What, really attracted me to Humentum was that they do actually walk their talk.
Torrey:They live into their values.
Torrey:Their CEO, Christine Sow I interviewed her about a year ago, I think.
Torrey:And it was just so impactful for me that I knew I wanted to partner with them.
Torrey:And so they're going to offer my course on their platform.
Torrey:And it's so exciting because I'll be able to reach even more
Torrey:humanitarian and development leaders.
Torrey:I'll have the added power of Humentum and their support and their ideas.
Torrey:And I have my own way of working and they have theirs and I think
Torrey:that we're going to be able to learn and make each other stronger.
Torrey:And so I'm just so excited about that.
Torrey:And like I said, They'll probably be on an upcoming episode
Torrey:about that in the next month.
Torrey:And then also I have partnered with, at least one organization to
Torrey:create or to really intentionally form more of a learning or coaching
Torrey:culture within that organization.
Torrey:And I really hope this year, I'll also be able to have them on the podcast so
Torrey:that you can learn from that and their experience and what they are seeing.
Torrey:So far what we've noticed and I don't want to mention the name of the
Torrey:organization as of yet, but like I said, I think that we'll be able to have
Torrey:them on the podcast sometime this year.
Torrey:But so far, what we've noticed is that the leaders that take the course that I'm
Torrey:giving, which is similar to the "Becoming the Modern Humanitarian and Development
Torrey:Leader" course, in that teaches coaching skills and coaching as a way of leading.
Torrey:We are seeing that leaders are having better relationships with their teams,
Torrey:more empathetic, they're listening more, they're gaining more ideas, they're
Torrey:including a broader spectrum of ideas.
Torrey:They're allowing their teams to do things their own way.
Torrey:They're able to free up their time to focus on bigger picture
Torrey:things because they're not in the day-to-day weeds of solving problems.
Torrey:And just an overall amazing amount of growth considering the short
Torrey:time that these, these students have graduated from the course.
Torrey:That's all very exciting as well.
Torrey:And we'll continue to expand and 2025.
Torrey:So what this means for you is if you are interested in becoming a modern,
Torrey:humanitarian and development leader you can perhaps join one of the courses for
Torrey:Humentum or through my own platform.
Torrey:Or, if you want to learn more about the work that I'm doing on an organizational
Torrey:level, like I said, I hope to share that in 2025, at some point I'm going
Torrey:to have more alumni of the course on so that if you have any questions
Torrey:for them, you can definitely ask.
Torrey:And like I said, I am supporting the alumni through monthly meetings where
Torrey:I'm encouraging them to broaden their own impact and really take what
Torrey:they've learned and to create more of a coaching culture within their team.
Torrey:But also one that steps away from overwork and overwhelm and really values people.
Torrey:So these are the things for 2025.
Torrey:I'm really excited.
Torrey:And also next week, I will have, a special guest on the podcast we've
Torrey:done a collaborative episode, maybe you've heard of her, Tosca of
Torrey:the NGO soul and strategy podcast.
Torrey:So that's also going to be exciting way to start the year and we have a really
Torrey:great and interesting discussion together.
