Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase wisdom and create a living legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1290 of our trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged.  This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today’s trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let’s jump right in with today’s nugget.

Today’s quote is from Michael Josephson, and it is, “Whether we want them or not, the New Year will bring new challenges; whether we seize them or not, the New Year will bring new opportunities.”

New Challenges Bring New Opportunities

As we begin a brand new year, and indeed a brand new decade, it is the perfect time to choose how you will face the new challenges and opportunities. It is refreshing to start a new year and a new decade, but it also comes with the associated responsibilities that we must be willing to accept. There are no rights without responsibility. They are twins and must be accepted together.

If you live in the United States, our constitution states that “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all persons are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” These rights do not guarantee us anything but must be pursued if we hope to attain them. There are two certainties that we can expect to happen in the new year.

The first certainty is that the new year will bring new challenges. Are you ready to take responsibility for and accept these challenges? The second certainty is that the new year will bring new opportunities. Are you ready to take responsibility and seize these new opportunities? Nothing will change in 2020 if nothing changes in your life. Yes, we will have challenges and difficulties, accept them, and turn them into opportunities to improve your life and the lives of those individuals whom you will impact.

As we face the challenges and seize the opportunities that will certainly come to us in the new year and decade, let us do so with God’s kingdom in mind. Let us pursue them fervently with the mindset that we are to help others as we ourselves grow and prosper. Keep the following truth in mind as you move forward.

Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.
