So let's start with some compelling stats about using live streaming video for businesses.

In 2024, Wistia was telling us this particular stat, and I find it most engaging stat yet.

Brands get the most video views in quarter one and quarter four.

And it's probably when people are most likely to buy products or services.

So New Year's sales, Valentine's happen in quarter one.

That's a lot that folks are looking at, videos and trying to find things to buy or places to go vacation, that sort of thing.

And then Black Friday and Christmas is another time that holiday

I find this most interesting because I did not know that stat until I started looking this up.

live streaming has grown in popularity over the past few years. We're talking about live streams,

live webinars, event streaming. So here's some more insights on using live video. The majority

of marketers who run live events do so monthly, being consistent. 38% of people say they do live

events to engage prospects and customers.

So webinars are the most common type of live event

Monique:

that brands put on and think of. Okay. 38% of brands use live events to engage with prospects

Monique:

and customers. And I don't do TikTok, but they say 64% of TikTok users love live content. Seeing

Monique:

people get out there and be in front of the camera, doing their live engagement is something

Monique:

that we are seeing those stats support. So how are you

Monique:

your live content? Are you

trying to engage with your clients? Are you showing demos? What is it you're doing? So think about how

you... Or what is it you're not doing? What is it you're not doing, right? Let's talk a little bit

streaming is. Live streaming is the streaming of video or audio in real time or

near real time. It's often referred to simply as streaming. The real-time live nature of live

streaming differentiates it from other non-live broadcast forms of stream media, such as video on

Demand. And what does that mean? Think Netflix, Hulu, and all the other streaming platforms.

Monique:

That's video on demand. Vlogs and video sharing platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, Vimeo,

Monique:

and those things where you actually have a channel and you post for your own content.

Monique:

And

what do you watch live?

Monique:

I watch sports live. That's something that's probably not going to change. I like watching

Monique:

concerts live, events that are happening either local or

Monique:

in

Monique:

national, international stages.

Monique:

Award shows, that is something that I like to watch live. I'm not a gamer. It's not something

Monique:

I like to watch, but I get it. But when I do watch live, I watch personalities and brands,

Monique:

behind-the-scenes content, how they did things, recapping, that sort of thing. And I also watch

Monique:

live inspirational talks and presentations about how to manage my business or mindset.

Monique:

watch that live? I'll watch it a lot recorded.

Yeah, well,

that's... Yeah, I mean, it

was live.

Oh, it was recorded live.

It was

recorded live, but I enjoy watching those. So that's something that I watch. That's what I

Monique:

engage with. This idea of what you watch live, this is where you and your company, your brand

Monique:

can use live streaming.

And why live recording, streaming content versatility?

:

So

Monique:

the reason you want to live stream is because you have versatility in your content, right? It's

Monique:

not just a talking head review or something like that.

:

Right. What do you like watching live? You

:

you enjoy watching live might also mimic what your ideal customer or client watches live.

:

So if you think about it, we are all looking for different kinds of content. Like you said,

you'll watch some stuff live, you'll watch some stuff recorded. I will too. And it's not just a

:

usual business card or testimonial that we're talking about. It looks

different. It looks

different. And has a different presentation. It's a different feeling to it. It can be used

:

ways from product launches and tutorials to Q&A sessions.

Monique:

Or demos on how to use something.

This versatility allows businesses to keep their content fresh and engaging. It can also save time

:

if planned out correctly. I will say sometimes the live events, it's interesting because it even for a

:

product, because the people who are there who are engaged will also let you know how they're using

:

the product. And as a person who uses the product, it may not necessarily be how you're using it and

:

gives you a new idea. Right. Or

they're using it in a way that was not intended, but is a very

Monique:

valid way to use your service or product. Right.

Livestreaming is important because it facilitates

real-time communication. It allows for immediate audience engagement, enables businesses to connect

with a wider and maybe even a global audience.

That's exciting.

start with a list of live

recordings or streaming ideas that you might be considering.

interviews, a talk show,

a podcast, panel discussion with a virtual audience that can interact and ask questions

of your panelists or maybe from us. And that interaction would create engagement. Another way

Monique:

to do this too is a live interview might be specifically for a testimonial from your business

or your product

a review of your business or product, not just a testimony, but a review.

Live from the field, you can show live action or doing your special sauce, a factory install,

school kids visiting the office, introducing volunteers, activity that has a low-key impact.

So

live from the field, a lot of people think of, oh, let's just, you know, go live right now.

Monique:

And so sometimes you need to have this be a little bit better planned out or thought out because it can be, hey, we just got this great x-ray machine and we're about to be able to do some better high-tech diagnostics for either a dentist or some sort of medical facility.

Monique:

And so something like that where you're from the factory floor or from the field might be something like that.

Monique:

Another thought is literally in the field.

Monique:

So I deal with a lot of nonprofits.

Monique:

And so if you have a constituents like Student Actions for Farm Workers where you're literally in the fields with folks that are picking crops or harvesting crops,

Monique:

then you might literally go to the field.

Monique:

And instead of having an interview, it's actually from the field and talking about how

Monique:

this

Monique:

or that is happening or engaging with your constituents about what your specialty is, what you want folks to look to.

Monique:

So live from the field can literally be from the factory floor, from the office, from the field, from the parking lot.

Monique:

And if you actually engage with your clientele on their sites, potentially it's in somebody

Monique:

else's business or home.

Monique:

So that is live from the field.

Monique:

And I love live behind the scenes.

Monique:

Like that is something that I like.

Monique:

It's like, hey, we just got a delivery.

It's sort of like, what do they call it, the unpacking, the unboxing?

Monique:

So it can also sort of be an unboxing.

Monique:

So that is kind of a behind the

scenes.

The reason that that works sometimes is like people want to know.

So if they can see you doing it, it's like, well, what does it look like?

How is it?

And the same for behind the scenes.

It's like it gives your client comfort.

Monique:

You're pulling back this curtain and showing and being transparent for what it is that you do,

Monique:

how you interact, and how you get things planned or done, and expectations.

Monique:

Expectations.

Monique:

Another thing that you might be considering is a live event, recording an in-person event and posting it, such as you have brought in a auctioneer and you might have an auction happening.

Monique:

So you might have that event happening and you want to have a little live happening of the exciting, you know, bid here, bid there sort of activity.

Monique:

So that is one thing you could do, a live event like that.

Monique:

What other kind of live events come to your mind?

Monique:

Hit them in the chat.

But Piper, what do you think about a live event?

Oh, Lord, put

We've done a lot of those.

So let's say that you have a

And you are doing this event and you have a room full of people and you want to videotape that.

Monique:

not just videotape it, but you could actually send it live or record it and present it as if it were

Monique:

live. Live Q&A or ask me anything

Monique:

the AMA. I've seen this happen. This is great for engagement

Monique:

for businesses that have services. So I like the Q&A idea. So let's say that you're a financial

Monique:

advisor and or an attorney with specialty like family law, divorce, or estate planning. And you

Monique:

want to do a live Q&A so that you can plan. It's like an event, but it's virtual. And so you have

Monique:

this interaction with people. So that is something that you can do as a live Q&A. Piper, can you think

of any other live Q

&As that might be something that you engaged with? Well, we did the non-profit

and we

offered

up that people could ask questions, governmental things. Right,

Monique:

live meetings. So you

Monique:

have a board meeting of some sort that you want to have live and it is a chance for your constituents

to give feedback or ask questions. So that is something else that can be done live in a virtual

Monique:

setting. It doesn't have to be recorded. It could actually be live, which I think in the era of Zoom,

Monique:

that is something that people don't consider as part of what they do. They just consider a meeting

Monique:

these days. It is and can be a more formal video presentation and a more formal Q&A back and forth

Monique:

if

designed properly.

Monique:

You

could be doing a live video series.

We

did the non-profit conversation

on LinkedIn.

Monique:

You know, the video series could be that, or let's say that you have a three-part

Monique:

series on how to do estate planning, or maybe you are doing a series about

Monique:

wellness

Monique:

for employees

Monique:

by having presentations at the desk.

Monique:

So we did a live event that had a,

Monique:

it was an amazing event that had sound bath.

Monique:

Oh, right.

Monique:

For folks at their desk,

Monique:

which I thought was really interesting to do.

Monique:

They had the experience in one place

Monique:

and they streamed it live to folks at their desk as employees.

Monique:

And it was a series, right?

Monique:

It was several sessions of the sound bath during the day.

Monique:

And so you could sign up to be part of that experience at different sessions.

Monique:

So that was what I considered a video series.

Something that's been happening a lot because of folks wanting to make comments on things that are happening in the world is a thing called live news jacking and commentary.

:

And this is commenting on current events that you're passionate about.

commenting on news, trends, different topics

Monique:

in the moment that people are talking about right then.

Monique:

Right. So, you know, think about this. This can be, you know, a comment on something silly,

Monique:

something cultural, some pop culture, or it can be, you know, just commentary on how it impacts

Monique:

you and your business that this news event occurred. Or

:

an awareness. I mean, like sometimes

:

being an entrepreneur in business, we find out about something and it's news to us. We didn't

:

realize, so we assume that other entrepreneurs don't know about it either. Right. So one of the

:

things that we were,

Monique:

you know, wanting to do was the BOI, which I thought was something we should

Monique:

have done on a live situation and let our colleagues know that this was a, you know,

Monique:

a mandate by the government to do. And it

:

kept getting moved. Like every day there was new

:

information. It's not our industry, so it wasn't urgent to us. But I really felt like

Monique:

the finance

Monique:

folks, bookkeepers, CPAs, I thought this was a great opportunity for them to do a live event

Monique:

that is about news or newsworthy topic that they could have leaped into and got engagement with

Monique:

their clients. So next we're moving on to live crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing. When we think

Monique:

crowdsourcing, we think, oh, funding, you know, somebody has a medical need and you're crowdfunding

Monique:

or crowdsourcing the funds to do that. Think about it this way. This is a more private conversation

Monique:

with

Monique:

a

Monique:

special invite of folks and only they can participate. And you want to get live feedback

Monique:

either on a question or how to solve a problem that you are having. So let's say that I, you know,

Monique:

we see these posts all the time. Hey, I need, you know, babysitter or dog sitter because I'm going

Monique:

away for three months or a house sitter. I'm going away three months. That is a crowdsourcing.

Monique:

Now to do this with a video, think about it this way. So let's say that you are a business and you

Monique:

have maybe the roof has got sprung a leak, you are now displaced out of your office and you need a

Monique:

space quickly, you can email your contacts or you could go live and say, hey, I'm looking to solve

Monique:

this problem. Do you know anybody that can help find us an appropriate space to lease? So that is

Monique:

one thing to think of when you think of live crowdsourcing. Another example would be I provide

Monique:

financial advice on this brand new legislation. And what does it mean to you? Now, we see newsletters

Monique:

go out. We see lots of posts on LinkedIn and that sort of thing. But let's go to live because people

Monique:

are really engaged with live. What did we find out about live? We found out that 99% of folks watch a

Monique:

video to figure out if they're going to use a product or service and it helps them decide. So

Monique:

let's say you're a financial advisor and let's say you're going to put out that newsletter.

Monique:

Too long, didn't read. A lot of times, too long, didn't read. But the video,

Monique:

video hooks eyeballs and gets people engaged. So moving on, we also have recorded content. Some of

Monique:

this stuff is actually live, literally live. They whip out their phone, they hit record and they are

Monique:

connected to whatever platform you're going to. But if you're smart, you will record that,

Monique:

save it somewhere, and use bits of it or the whole thing on your website. Not only that,

Monique:

you might record a how-to, a demonstration, a course on how to

Monique:

do

Monique:

some special new skill,

Monique:

right? Maybe you're going through a certification or you teach a certification. That is an education

Monique:

video in a video series that can be recorded live just like you were standing in front of the room

Monique:

or maybe you are standing in front of the room and you're going to enlist your next 30 students

Monique:

with that video. This is also a way to get that content out to your

Monique:

audience,

Monique:

to your clients,

Monique:

to

Monique:

potential users of your service or video.

Monique:

I

can hear some of you thinking,

other people, not me. I hear the fear. I hear that you're not sure about doing this because it's not

you. It's not your personality. Some of the objections also that I hear is we don't want the

organization story to be about

me, me. What you don't understand is that you have a voice

and that you are part of the organization and that your voice is important to push that message out.

Monique:

So get over yourself there. Fear that the audience doesn't care about your message.

Monique:

Now, if they're engaged, they see you, they're going to be engaged with your message. So it's a

Monique:

made-up story in your head about whether they're going to be engaged. Another objection.

Monique:

don't

Monique:

have anything to say

Monique:

or

Monique:

we're not ready to say it yet.

Monique:

If

Monique:

you're in business, you have something to

Monique:

say. If you're in business, you are ready to say it. You have an offer. You have a service. You solve

Monique:

a problem. You engage your community. That is just fear talking. I'm not good at lives. You're

Monique:

camera and that you have a look for radio. Okay, you need to have some courage about what's going

Monique:

on there because ultimately if you're in business and you do business face-to-face with people or on

Monique:

the phone, you are out there

Monique:

the

Monique:

same way you would be in front of the camera. So having that fear and

Monique:

having that objection out loud

Monique:

isn't

Monique:

going to serve you in your business or your service. Another

Monique:

maybe sometime soon,

Monique:

one

Monique:

day we'll do it, maybe next time we have an event.

Monique:

So you're procrastinating. You have a strategic plan for your messaging,

Monique:

and I'm thinking that you're not procrastinating about other things in your business, your business

Monique:

plans, how you put together an event. Those are the things that you are not procrastinating about,

Monique:

and so by saying we're not going to incorporate this part of the messaging in live,

Monique:

doesn't serve you

Monique:

in

Monique:

your business. You don't have a good grasp on technology. You're not very skilled

Monique:

with going live. And this is where, you know, having that plan in place and having somebody on

Monique:

staff to be able to do that is important because you're missing out on this opportunity to use

Monique:

that story, that voice, that

Monique:

passion

Monique:

about the mission, about your nonprofit or your business,

Monique:

leaving out those EDs and those CEOs, that is a big mistake in my estimation for leaving them

Monique:

out of your messaging and your plans for your messaging for your company. So you're having a

Monique:

lot of this dialogue in your head about, I can't, I don't have time, maybe next time it's not in the

Monique:

plan, it's not going to serve us. And so

Monique:

take

Monique:

a moment, honor that feeling of trepidation and

Monique:

intimidation of the new

Monique:

activity,

Monique:

going live, using that live, using the video, having a course,

Monique:

selling the course. This is something that is part of the plan.
