Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
Jesus. Matthew 5:6. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 5 of 30 Days on the Mount of Blessing.
For Jesus’ listeners, hunger and thirst were real-world challenges. Much of each day’s energy was expended just surviving. Being hungry or thirsty was most certainly not an aspiration of anyone in the crowd. YET, there was a kind of hunger and thirst that this radical teacher said should be a daily aspiration: a hunger and thirst for righteousness, genuine goodness. A focus-shifting, action-driving kind of craving. For God-likeness to be more and more deeply realized in every-day interactions. A longing for a society built on the goodness of Divine wisdom. A personal commitment to act for the cause of right in daily words and actions. And this deep craving is met with the assurance of equally-deep satisfaction. These hungry ones will eat and drink deeply of the beautiful character of God they so eagerly long for.
