Shownotes

This episode features a valuable tip from Phil Cowley of Inspire Instructor Training, emphasizing the importance of silence in the teaching process. Phil advises driving instructors to embrace moments of quiet, whether after asking questions or following a pupil's response. This pause allows instructors to truly listen and reflect on what their pupils have said, rather than jumping in with immediate responses. By cultivating this practice, instructors can enhance their understanding and improve their teaching effectiveness. Join Terry Cook as he shares this insightful advice and encourages listeners to become better driving instructors through mindful communication.

Phil:

Hi, I'm Phil from inspire instructor training.

Phil:

So my top tip is to shut up.

Phil:

So whether that is after you've asked your pupil a question and you're holding the silence and just not talking for a while and let them be the one that breaks the silence, or even actually after the pupil has finished talking, just take a second to stay silent.

Phil:

Have they finished talking?

Phil:

Do they want to add more onto it?

Phil:

But it also gives you that opportunity to really just take in what they've said and actually analyze.

Phil:

Like, have I actually listened to what they've said?

Phil:

Rather than being ready to jump in instantly with what have you said?

Phil:

So yeah, be.

Terry:

More quiet is.

Phil:

My tip.

Terry:

So I hope you found this tip useful.
