Shownotes

Today's discussion centers around the profound truth found in Romans 8:28, emphasizing that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose. Dr. David Spoon dives deep into the relationship between predestination and free will, asserting that they coexist as two sides of the same coin. With personal anecdotes and theological insights, he explores the importance of understanding our spiritual family and the blessings that come from God, regardless of life's challenges. Listeners are encouraged to engage with the concepts presented, reflecting on their own experiences and the transformative power of faith. The episode also includes interactive elements, inviting audience participation through trivia and personal testimonies, creating a dynamic and engaging listening experience.

The podcast dives into deep theological discussions, centering around the essential concepts of predestination and free will, as derived from Romans 8. Dr. David Spoon articulates how these two ideas are intertwined, emphasizing that they are two sides of the same coin. The conversation highlights how God’s foreknowledge and choice of His people serves a divine purpose, aiming for believers to become like Christ. Dr. Spoon takes this opportunity to illuminate the importance of the Christian family, suggesting that the spiritual connections among believers often surpass those of biological ties, underscoring the significance of community in faith. The episode is rich with scriptural references and practical applications, encouraging listeners to engage actively with their faith and recognize the blessings that come with being part of God’s family.

As the episode progresses, Dr. Spoon touches on the assurance believers have in God's support, famously stating, "If God is for us, who can be against us?" This powerful assertion serves as a reminder of the confidence Christians can have in their spiritual journey, regardless of the challenges they face. Listeners are invited to reflect on personal testimonies of God’s faithfulness and the ways He answers prayers, fostering an atmosphere of encouragement and hope. Dr. Spoon also engages with listeners by posing trivia questions, blending educational content with interactive elements, making the theological discussions accessible and engaging for everyone.

The episode culminates with a call for listeners to draw closer to the Lord daily, emphasizing the importance of prayer and scripture in nurturing one’s faith. Dr. Spoon encourages a genuine relationship with God, advocating for a heartfelt approach to reading the Bible and communicating with God. The takeaway is clear: understanding one’s identity in Christ and the workings of God leads to a life filled with purpose, connection, and divine assurance, encouraging every believer to actively participate in their spiritual growth and community involvement.

Takeaways:

  • Understanding that God works all things together for good requires recognizing His sovereignty in our lives.
  • Predestination and free will are intertwined concepts, both essential to understanding Christian faith.
  • The importance of spiritual family in a believer's life often surpasses that of natural family.
  • Experiencing God’s call involves both His initiative and our responsive choices as believers.
  • Daily prayer and reading scripture should be driven by a desire to connect with God.
  • The concept of apophatic theology emphasizes knowing God by understanding what He is not.

Transcripts

Speaker A:

And now for something completely different.

Speaker A:

Here's what's coming up this hour on today's Experience.

Speaker A:

It's totally terrific, totally transforming and totally triumphant Tuesday as we find unity from the Father, through the Son and by the Spirit, all for the glory of God Almighty.

Speaker A:

First picking it back up In Romans, chapter 8, we're going to dive backwards to verse 28, but in this intro I want to talk about verse 29.

Speaker A:

Some people's theology can get a bit misguided, but it doesn't need to.

Speaker A:

Keep in mind that predestination and free will are two sides of the same coin, regardless of what position people argue for.

Speaker A:

The Scripture says God knew his people in advance and chose them to become like his son, Jesus.

Speaker A:

He foreknew us, meaning he knew ahead of time, and he chose us in spite of us, which is pretty cool.

Speaker A:

Next, why?

Speaker A:

So that his son Jesus Christ would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

Speaker A:

Guess what this is about family.

Speaker A:

Did you know that?

Speaker A:

It's about Christian family.

Speaker A:

The family that God has placed you in is exceedingly important.

Speaker A:

To say otherwise would be sinful.

Speaker A:

The spiritual family God has connected you to also holds great importance and in several cases in the New Testament surpasses that of the natural family.

Speaker A:

Can't change the Book.

Speaker A:

Finally, we are truly blessed beyond anything we could ever deserve or ever fully comprehend.

Speaker A:

He concludes verse 31 by saying, if God is for us, who can be against us?

Speaker A:

That puts us in this enormous place of confidence and victory in partnership with God.

Speaker A:

Nothing is impossible.

Speaker A:

And how could you have a better partner than the King of the Universe?

David Spoon:

David Spoon's life has been an experience.

David Spoon:

Speaker A:

And yesterday we heard from the Lone Ranger of professional radio.

Speaker A:

He agreed.

Speaker A:

Jim and Jacob, he said, yeah, not professional radio.

Speaker A:

And we concur.

Speaker A:

But we're asking you, what do you think?

Or you can call us.

Speaker A:

That's right.

Speaker A:

Call anytime.

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

Talking to Jim and Jacob is like sharing a cheat meal on your diet with your favorite person.

Speaker A:

Hello.

Speaker C:

Thank you, David.

Speaker C:

Happy Tuesday.

Speaker A:

Happy Tuesday to you, my friend.

Speaker A:

How you doing today?

Speaker A:

Things going well?

Speaker C:

Going well so far.

Speaker C:

How are you doing today?

Speaker A:

Doing great.

Speaker A:

Like your intro?

Speaker A:

Like it?

Speaker A:

Like the music?

Speaker A:

Very, very cool.

Speaker A:

Very, very cool.

Speaker A:

I mean, that's a really good one.

Speaker A:

Did you have anything special over the weekend?

Speaker A:

I can't remember if I asked you that or not.

Speaker A:

Even though Don.

Speaker A:

I brought Don some candies and he opened them up and put them in the little kitchen room.

Speaker A:

Did you see that?

Speaker A:

They're in the kitchen room right now.

Speaker A:

That box of candies that you guys got.

Speaker C:

Oh, really?

Speaker C:

So what you're saying is we have free candy in the kitchen?

Speaker A:

Yeah, free candy in the kitchen.

Speaker A:

That's true.

Speaker A:

Okay, just letting you know.

Speaker A:

Did you have anything this weekend special?

Speaker A:

Anything unique?

Speaker A:

Anything kind of cool?

Speaker A:

Anything?

Speaker C:

Nothing really special this past weekend, but last night I did have tacos for dinner and they're really good.

Speaker A:

Good for you.

Speaker A:

Were they homemade tacos or did you.

Speaker C:

Yes, they were homemade.

Speaker A:

Oh, very, very nice.

Speaker A:

I will tell you that.

Speaker A:

Our big treat, actually, my big treat, because Noel doesn't like them, is I had the eclairs.

Speaker A:

I like those.

Speaker A:

Eclairs.

Speaker A:

Chocolate eclairs that got the cream in the middle.

Speaker A:

I like those.

Speaker A:

Those are good.

Speaker C:

Those are good.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

A little fattening.

Speaker A:

Fattening.

Speaker A:

What is that anyway?

Speaker A:

That.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Let's see if you guys remember what that movie's from.

Speaker A:

That then.

Speaker A:

I really do love you.

Speaker A:

Fattening.

Speaker A:

Anyhow, bottom line is simply this.

Speaker A:

If you want to reach out to us, you can do that.

Speaker A:

You can call, you can text, you can email.

Speaker A:

It could be for a praise report.

Speaker A:

Has the Lord done something phenomenal?

Speaker A:

Has the Lord done something cool?

Speaker A:

Has the Lord done something for you?

Speaker A:

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.

Speaker A:

You should share it.

Speaker A:

You just don't know how God will use it.

Speaker A:

I'm telling you, people don't realize God takes the weirdest things and makes them so powerful because he's God.

Speaker A:

You see, that's how that works.

Speaker A:

Additionally, it can be a praise report, a testimony, something along those lines.

Speaker A:

It can be for a prayer request.

Speaker A:

We love it and we love to pray.

Speaker A:

The reason we love to pray is because God answers prayers.

Speaker A:

We've had call after call, show after show.

Speaker A:

We've done over:

Speaker A:

We've had hundreds of people say God answered this prayer.

Speaker A:

That's not a coincidence.

Speaker A:

It's just ridiculous.

Speaker A:

The Lord does stuff, so pray about it.

Speaker A:

Let's bring it to the Lord.

Speaker A:

Maybe you got something you want to share your scripture or something that the Lord showed you or shared with you.

Speaker A:

It's just blessing you.

Speaker A:

Well, good bless somebody else with it.

Speaker A:

Maybe you know the answer to this Bible trivia and you should know the answer to this Bible trivia, but I'll set it up anyway.

Speaker A:

Is the Book of Ezra in the Old Testament, the New Testament, or neither?

Speaker A:

The Book of Ezra.

Speaker A:

Is it in the Old Testament, the New Testament, or neither?

Speaker A:

If you think you know the answer, you can reach out to us here.

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

You can also text:

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

Or you can send an email davidemustincrease.org the Book of Ezra E Z R A Ezra.

Speaker A:

Hello, is that in the Old Testament, the New Testament or neither?

Speaker A:

There it is.

Speaker A:

If you think you know, reach out and let us know.

Speaker A:

And in the meantime, what are we gonna do?

Speaker A:

We're gonna do our DNA.

Speaker A:

DNA D stands for Draw closer to the Lord daily.

Speaker A:

So I had lots of cool things going on today.

Speaker A:

Just wanted to say that.

Speaker A:

But nothing was better than my Bible time.

Speaker A:

Is that just the weirdest thing?

Speaker A:

It's like I had all these cool things the Lord was doing and showing me.

Speaker A:

Just.

Speaker A:

But my Bible time was like off the charts.

Speaker A:

And the thing about it is this.

Speaker A:

Don't read your Bible because you have to.

Speaker A:

I'm just going to tell you right now that already puts a begrudging spirit in you.

Speaker A:

Don't do it that way.

Speaker A:

Read the word of God because you want to hear what God has to say.

Speaker A:

Say, read to hear.

Speaker A:

You don't have to read to teach a Bible Study.

Speaker A:

You don't have to read to say, I made my two Chapter 3, Chapter 5, Chapter 10, Chapter fulfillment.

Speaker A:

Read to hear.

Speaker A:

It's the word of God.

Speaker A:

And when you're reading it, he's talking.

Speaker A:

The biggest question is, are we listening?

Speaker A:

That's the question.

Speaker A:

And when you're praying, try.

Speaker A:

There's nothing wrong with using a model.

Speaker A:

Jesus gave us the model in the Sermon on the Mount.

Speaker A:

He gave us the model in Luke, the same approach.

Speaker A:

Here's the thing.

Speaker A:

Zero wrong with that.

Speaker A:

But don't get so caught up in a model that you are just doing repetition.

Speaker A:

Repetition is not davening is a repetition and that's a form of worship.

Speaker A:

And there's nothing wrong with that.

Speaker A:

But when you're talking to the Lord, you're doing that heart thing.

Speaker A:

Pour out your heart.

Speaker A:

Yes, he knows what's in your heart.

Speaker A:

But when you pour it out to him and he responds to you either through his word or through comforting you or through guiding you or directing you, there's a great sense of connection and relationship.

Speaker A:

Draw closer to the Lord daily.

Speaker A:

D Give us this day our daily bread.

Speaker A:

Remember, remember N Never be ashamed of Jesus or his words.

Speaker A:

And I do not care.

Speaker A:

I know government seems like some people are saying, well, it's shifting and it's going this direction.

Speaker A:

You're going to hear me talk about that.

Speaker A:

Putting confidence in man is a bad idea.

Speaker A:

And we need to make sure to stay stable in our commitment to where our citizenship is.

Speaker A:

And your citizenship better first be in heaven or you're going to have a very interesting discussion with Jesus when he says, I told you, seek first the kingdom of God.

Speaker A:

Yikes.

Speaker A:

Never be ashamed of Jesus or his words.

Speaker A:

Luke 9:26 and then a Always be ready.

Speaker C:

To serve.

Speaker A:

Ah, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready.

Speaker A:

Just like in my I'm in.

Speaker A:

What am I in?

Speaker A:

Luke.

Speaker A:

So I'm reading from six different books right now.

Speaker A:

Seven different books actually.

Speaker A:

So my Luke studied Luke 13.

Speaker A:

There's one spot in there, 13 and 14, where he says be ready like three times in like four paragraphs.

Speaker A:

I was like, ready, ready, ready.

Speaker A:

It's like you just hear the repetition of what he's trying to teach.

Speaker A:

It's like you gotta be ready.

Speaker A:

We can't get so engrossed and what's taking place.

Speaker A:

And I'm just gonna say this, right?

Speaker A:

I like entertainment.

Speaker A:

Let's not get weird out of this.

Speaker A:

Love comedy movies.

Speaker A:

Love sci fi movies.

Speaker A:

I'm just telling you, I really enjoy funny shows.

Speaker A:

I like some of the older shows more because they're just dumber and funner and they're not always trying to make a message.

Speaker A:

There's not quite as many social messages as in Green Acres as there are in emergency 911 kind of thing.

Speaker A:

Right?

Speaker A:

So I like all that, I enjoy that entertainment, all that stuff.

Speaker A:

But there can be an overindulgence in any of those things.

Speaker A:

And I've told you this in the past, I will tell you again.

Speaker A:

It was my daughter, first one ever told me about this, that when she was going through her training to go into ministry at Master's Commission, which is an Assemblies of God connected group where they go out and they minister to different groups of children at schools and so on and so forth, they talked about doing media fasts, social media, regular media even to some degree, academia, television, politics, and anything along those lines.

Speaker A:

Hollywood kind of thing.

Speaker A:

Fast, in other words, don't always consume it because it can really take over a lot of territory in your life.

Speaker A:

Be aware of that.

Speaker A:

You're supposed to be mastered by nothing except for the master.

Speaker A:

Okay?

Speaker A:

So you're always ready to serve.

Speaker A:

Not so caught up in all the things around you.

Speaker A:

I like entertainment, but if I get too much of it, it's not good for my heart, it's not good for my mind, it's certainly not good for my spirit.

Speaker A:

Get it?

Speaker A:

D Draw closer to the Lord daily and never be ashamed of Jesus or his words.

Speaker A:

A always be ready to serve.

Speaker A:

Here you go.

Speaker A:

Is the book of Ezra in the Old Testament, in the New Testament, or neither?

Speaker A:

If you think you know.

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

You can send an email davidemustincrease.org so I wanna take a second here before we jump into the teaching.

Speaker A:

I wanna mention two people and I want you to listen.

Speaker A:

Listen.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Jeff Gauss is offering.

Speaker A:

He wrote me this email, by the way, I said his name wrong last time.

Speaker A:

He has a painting company and he's wanted to be able to help brothers and sisters fixing up anything that they have need on their house to do.

Speaker A:

He's been doing it for 30 years, right?

Speaker A:

He wants to for brothers and sisters who can and cannot afford to pay for work that needs to be done on their house.

Speaker A:

So they always end up working something out.

Speaker A:

And so what he's offering is to help people.

Speaker A:

We're going to mention Jeff's business and his phone number.

Speaker A:

I'm going to give you his phone number.

Speaker A:

They usually do condos, apartments, during the week, but looking to help people on the weekend.

Speaker A:

So if you need help with something, listen to this phone number.

Speaker A:

Because a brother in the Lord is saying, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.

Speaker A:

We'll help.

Speaker A:

Right?

Speaker A:

Here it is.

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

One more time.

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

Brother Jeff, you want to talk to him?

Speaker A:

He'll be glad to help you out.

Speaker A:

He's trying to be a blessing to the audience.

Speaker A:

The other person I want to mention is Elizabeth Fory, who also, she does massages.

Speaker A:

She arranged it so that Noel could get a massage.

Speaker A:

And there's a few people in the world that need massages as much as.

Speaker A:

As much as my wife who has to put up with me.

Speaker A:

Could you imagine living with me 24 7?

Speaker A:

It's a little intense, right?

Speaker A:

I'm just saying.

Speaker A:

So Elizabeth, phenomenal job.

Speaker A:

Noah was super blessed by it.

Speaker A:

Her number because she's wanting to be a blessing to people.

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

She can also be reached at parkcitymassages.com so what's cool about that is if you've got a business or something and you want to be a blessing and you want to help people and just coordinate with people, you let me know.

Speaker A:

We'll just share it.

Speaker A:

Why?

Speaker A:

Because the Bible says, do good to all men, especially those of the household of God.

Speaker A:

And that's what these people are doing.

Speaker A:

Kind of cool, isn't it?

Speaker A:

I think it's cool.

Speaker A:

All right, so your trivia question, which most of you should have got, I'm just going to say that be really, really nice.

Speaker A:

Okay?

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker A:

Your trivia question is the book of Ezra in the Old Testament or New Testament or neither?

Speaker A:

That's your trivia question.

Speaker A:

If you think you know.

Speaker A:

So before I get into this teaching, we're going to get into Romans 8:28.

Speaker A:

So you can imagine how this is going to go.

Speaker A:

I want to back up just real quickly to Romans 8:27, because I don't want people to get the wrong idea.

Speaker A:

Most people know I'm Baptistal.

Speaker A:

That means I actually have ordination papers from the Pentecostals and from the Baptists and from Foursquare.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

A charismatic one.

Speaker A:

And then I have a BA degree from Foursquare, a master's degree from a Pentecostal group, and a doctorate from a Baptist group.

Speaker A:

And I was born and raised Jewish.

Speaker A:

And my whole goal is just to draw near to God through Jesus Christ.

Speaker A:

I don't know what the problem is that.

Speaker A:

Here's what it says in verse 27.

Speaker A:

I just want to make sure you understand it.

Speaker A:

And the Father, who knows all hearts, knows what the Spirit is saying.

Speaker A:

For the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's will.

Speaker A:

I just need you to understand if I can communicate it.

Speaker A:

When Jesus said, I will not leave you as orphans, he moved his ministry from earth to the right hand of the Father.

Speaker A:

The Bible says he's at the right hand of the Father interceding for us while he is interceding for us.

Speaker A:

And who could you have praying for you that's better than Jesus?

Speaker A:

The Holy Spirit is who he sent in order to not to leave us as orphans.

Speaker A:

And it's that Holy Spirit that lives inside of you.

Speaker A:

Jesus is in your heart by faith.

Speaker A:

The Holy Spirit is actually inside of you.

Speaker A:

Temple of the Holy Spirit, you are and is petitioning on your behalf.

Speaker A:

That should do one thing more than anything else.

Speaker A:

Let you find the comfort that even when you're not even sure what to say to God, that coming before him, there should be a confidence.

Speaker A:

He knows every nuance, even of what you're feeling, but can't express.

Speaker A:

And he does that, communicates that.

Speaker A:

So you and I recognize how much he loves us.

Speaker A:

I mean, I wouldn't have picked me, but he did.

Speaker A:

And I probably wouldn't have picked a lot of people.

Speaker A:

But God knows.

Speaker A:

And the Holy Spirit is in you, petitioning, pleading on our behalf.

Speaker A:

And that should give you a great sense of comfort and confidence.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker A:

By the way, Eric, I sent you the wrong text.

Speaker A:

That was for somebody else.

Speaker A:

Okay, back to the trivia question.

Speaker A:

Then we'll exit.

Speaker A:

Here it is.

Speaker A:

Is the Book of Ezra in the Old Testament, New Testament, or neither?

Speaker A:

And the answer is Old Testament.

Speaker A:

Ezra is the fifth.

Speaker A:

I think it's the 15th book in the Old Testament.

Speaker A:

Should be right around there.

Speaker A:

Ezra, Nehemiah Connection.

Speaker A:

Actually thought of as one book by some scholars.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Okay, great.

Speaker A:

All right, we'll take our break and then come back.

Speaker A:

You're listening to the David Spoon Experience right here on Kaam 770, the truth station here in Texas.

Speaker A:

Short break.

Speaker A:

We'll be back.

Speaker A:

Don't go anywhere.

David Spoon:

David Spoon:

Be a representative.

David Spoon:

Why not?

David Spoon:

It couldn't hurt.

David Spoon:

Well, we hope not.

David Spoon:

Anyway, you don't need to be a professionally qualified minister.

David Spoon:

You need to have a pulse.

David Spoon:

By that we mean you need to have a heart.

David Spoon:

Just go to hemustincrease.org that's hemustincrease.org.

Speaker A:

What is the David Spoon Experience?

Speaker A:

Let me tell you what.

Speaker A:

I'm torn between the two.

Speaker A:

I'm twixed between the torn two.

Speaker A:

You want to know why?

Speaker A:

I've got the biggest breaking story ever.

David Spoon:

To do that first.

Speaker A:

I just can't wait.

Speaker A:

More than my whole thing about the four way stop sign.

Speaker A:

Yep.

Speaker A:

You want me to do the number one story?

Speaker A:

Ladies and gentlemen, you better get ready.

Speaker A:

Here's my advice.

Speaker A:

I don't give this advice very often and I don't give it uncheckfully.

Speaker A:

What's uncheckfully?

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

Here's the biggest story you have ever heard on the David Swoon Experience.

Speaker A:

If you have children who are listening, if you are not in a car, it's time to cover their errors or send them into another room.

Speaker A:

That's how chilling this is, ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker A:

I have it off the press literally within the last two and a half hours.

Speaker A:

Actually, it's less than two and a half hours ago.

Speaker A:

Here it is, ladies and gentlemen, I have it right in my hands.

Speaker A:

Get ready.

Speaker A:

Do not, do not get nauseous when you hear this.

Speaker A:

Ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker A:

It is a fact that as of today, the Navy, the United States Navy officially has.

Speaker A:

Has made its proclamation.

Speaker A:

Ready?

Speaker A:

Are you ready?

Speaker A:

Are you listening?

Speaker A:

This is the most important thing ever.

Speaker A:

You ready?

Speaker A:

That Captain Crunch is a fraud.

Speaker A:

Ladies and gentlemen, the United States Navy has declared that Captain Crunch.

Speaker A:

I do not buy it.

Speaker A:

No, listen to this.

Speaker A:

Here's why.

Speaker A:

Let me tell you why.

Speaker A:

Captain Crunch has three stripes on his cuffs.

Speaker A:

And that signifies a commander and not a captain.

Speaker A:

So the United States Navy has made it absolutely known today.

Speaker A:

Captain Crunch.

Speaker A:

Nay, he.

Speaker A:

Nay, a captain.

Speaker A:

Nay.

Speaker A:

Now, it is true.

David Spoon:

He named the serial Commander Crunch.

Speaker A:

Yes, Commander Crunch.

Speaker A:

That's the new.

Speaker A:

That's why I told you, don't Let your kids hear this.

Speaker A:

It is possible that that uniform could represent either German or Portuguese navy.

Speaker A:

They are not sure because all of those uniforms were lost with their great nav.

Speaker D:

Foreign.

Speaker A:

Welcome back to the David Spoon Experience.

Speaker A:

Thank you for joining us here at Kaam 770, the truce station here in Texas.

Speaker A:

That's Ka Man 770, the truth station here in Texas, where apparently my text is not working correctly.

Speaker A:

So if people get texts and it doesn't make sense, they're getting mixed up because I have it on my phone and on my computer and I think they're crossing wires.

Speaker A:

So make sure.

Speaker A:

If you get a text from me and it doesn't make sense, you understand that we call that Oopsie.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

It's called Oopsie.

Speaker A:

Right?

Speaker A:

Oopsie.

Speaker A:

Get it?

Speaker A:

Okay, great.

Speaker A:

All right, here is your next trivia question.

Speaker A:

What girl answered the door when Peter knocked at the house of Mary, the mother of John?

Speaker A:

Mary, the mother of God?

Speaker A:

What girl actually knocked on the door?

Speaker A:

Acts 12, 12, 13.

Speaker A:

What was her name?

Speaker A:

We've done this one before.

Speaker A:

We'll just say it this way.

Speaker A:

Neighbor to Mary Tyler Moore.

Speaker A:

So if you can figure that out, there it is.

Speaker A:

What girl answered the door when Peter knocked on the house?

Speaker A:

Acts:

Speaker A:

Your hint.

Speaker A:

Neighbor to Mary Tyler Moore.

Speaker A:

There you go.

Speaker A:

Nobody was.

Speaker A:

It's just a hint.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker A:

If you think you know, you can reach out to us.

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

Excuse me.

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

Davidemustincrease.org what was the girl's name who answered the door?

Speaker A:

Actually, she didn't answer the door.

Speaker A:

Technically, when Peter knocked on the house, when he was escaping, he had just escaped from prison, from the angel that brought him out.

Speaker A:

I think it was Mary, the mother of John's house.

Speaker A:

What was her name?

Speaker A:

Acts:

Speaker A:

And then it was also Mary Tyler Moore's neighbor.

Speaker A:

See that?

Speaker A:

See how we do that?

Speaker A:

All right, I am going to tell you right now.

Speaker A:

We are going to do.

Speaker A:

Just so you can know, we are going to do history after this.

Speaker A:

Because primarily history has one thing on there that might be one of the best things.

Speaker A:

Things ever for me.

Speaker A:

Let me just say that.

Speaker A:

So in the meantime, let's do.

Speaker A:

Can you do a Jake's take?

Speaker A:

Are you ready to do that?

Speaker A:

You feel good?

Speaker A:

All right, let's Do a Jake's take.

Speaker A:

All right, my friend.

Speaker A:

What do we got in the realm of football?

Speaker C:

Well, last night, the wild card round wrapped up with the Minnesota Vikings losing to the Los Angeles Rams.

Speaker C:

And not really a close game.

Speaker C:

I don't know how much you watched.

Speaker A:

Of it, David, but just enough to know after the first half there was nothing happening.

Speaker C:

Yep, yep.

Speaker C:

That's about it.

Speaker C:

But the divisional round is now set for this weekend with, David, your Detroit Lions taking on Washington.

Speaker C:

That would be.

Speaker C:

I think that would be a good game.

Speaker A:

That should be a good game.

Speaker A:

It's not.

Speaker A:

I think it's seven on Saturday night.

Speaker C:

Yes, Saturday night.

Speaker A:

Yep, yep.

Speaker A:

Got that one.

Speaker A:

Then.

Speaker A:

Then we've got everybody else kind of pulling together.

Speaker A:

Right?

Speaker A:

What do we got, like, four games left?

Speaker C:

Yeah, four.

Speaker C:

There's eight teams left.

Speaker C:

Four games this weekend.

Speaker C:

Saturday nights, the Lions and then the early game, I believe is the Chiefs and Houston Texans.

Speaker C:

I think the Chiefs will win that one, probably.

Speaker C:

And then Sunday is the Eagles and Rams, and then it'll be the Bills and the.

Speaker C:

I'm having a brain.

Speaker A:

Baltimore.

Speaker A:

Baltimore.

Speaker C:

Baltimore.

Speaker C:

That's right.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

I'm going to actually, I'm going to.

Speaker A:

Actually, I'm going to pick Baltimore.

Speaker C:

Really?

Speaker A:

Yes, I am.

Speaker A:

I think Baltimore is playing really good, and I think.

Speaker C:

You know, it's funny you say that because Don came in earlier, before he came and talked to you, and he said the same thing.

Speaker C:

He's picking Baltimore as well.

Speaker A:

I think.

Speaker A:

I think they're going to go.

Speaker A:

I think it's.

Speaker A:

I'm just going to say I think it's going to be.

Speaker A:

I'm not going to call Philadelphia and the Rams because one of my best friends sometimes listen to the show, and then if I said Philadelphia, which will probably win, he'd be really heartbroken because I'm not picking the Rams, so I'm not going to say that.

Speaker C:

So you're going with Baltimore.

Speaker C:

I'm going to go with Buffalo.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker A:

That'll be an interesting thing.

Speaker A:

I am, though, I am very curious about the Houston, Kansas City game.

Speaker A:

I just want to.

Speaker A:

I just want to make sure Houston doesn't get blown out.

Speaker A:

That's my only.

Speaker A:

Yeah, they really need to represent, but Texas needs.

Speaker C:

I'm just hoping it's close game.

Speaker A:

All right, I'm with you on that one.

Speaker A:

Excellent job.

Speaker A:

Thank you.

Speaker A:

And then we will look forward to see what takes place after that.

Speaker A:

All right, your trivia question then.

Speaker A:

I'm getting into the.

Speaker A:

More stuff that we got to cover.

Speaker A:

Mary, the Mother of John Acts:

Speaker A:

I think everybody who's ever listened not just to this show but has gone to church for more than 20 seconds has at some point heard this verse.

Speaker A:

This verse people say, well, it gets taken out of context, which it doesn't.

Speaker A:

But that's okay.

Speaker A:

I'm going to read the verse and I'm going to read it in like seven different translations just real fast.

Speaker A:

Shouldn't be very complex.

Speaker A:

Here's the first one.

Speaker A:

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Speaker A:

Next translation and we know that God causes everything to work together for the good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose.

Speaker A:

Next version for we know that those who love God in all things, they work together for good for those who are called according to his purpose.

Speaker A:

Here's the Berean Literal Bible and we know that God works together all things for good to those loving God, to those being called according to his purpose.

Speaker A:

King James and we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them that are called according to his purpose.

Speaker A:

You guys have to be getting this at some point.

Speaker A:

NASB:

Speaker A:

So there's a couple things that you cannot escape from this verse, right?

Speaker A:

Here's the first thing you cannot escape in the Greek no matter what translation and I've got 40 translations right in front of me.

Speaker A:

Here's what you cannot escape shape and we know.

Speaker A:

So let's just stop right there because that deserves the time that it does not get.

Speaker A:

We are not hoping that things work together for good.

Speaker A:

We are not thinking maybe you know something somehow, someway.

Speaker A:

All of that are expressions of not knowing.

Speaker A:

And that, my friends, is not acceptable.

Speaker A:

What we need to grasp is that we, you and I, you, me, us, all of us believers, we know.

Speaker A:

We know know.

Speaker A:

We don't wonder.

Speaker A:

We know.

Speaker A:

And this is something we know as surely as we know we're saved.

Speaker A:

You're not throwing the dice and hoping, man, I hope this is right.

Speaker A:

It is something that we Absolutely exist in a confident level.

Speaker A:

And before we get to that rest of that verse, I want you to catch this first part.

Speaker A:

You.

Speaker A:

When we look at Romans 8:28, you are required by God to acknowledge that you know.

Speaker A:

Don't tell me.

Speaker A:

Well, I'm wondering or I'm hoping that is not what it says.

Speaker A:

It says, we know.

Speaker A:

And so I'm just simply going to say this.

Speaker A:

If you are a person who does not know, change that so that you know as much as you believe in the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, you ought to know who's working things on your behalf.

Speaker A:

No movement, no backing off, no restricting.

Speaker A:

And don't give me this.

Speaker A:

That's out of context.

Speaker A:

It's just right there, as plain as can be.

Speaker A:

And we know.

Speaker A:

And the next portion, as you know, we're getting into is all things, everything.

Speaker A:

We'll get to that in a second.

Speaker A:

We do have somebody on the line, and I think they want to answer the trivia question, so let's do that.

Speaker A:

Or do they just have a question?

Speaker C:

No, they have a question.

Speaker A:

Okay, well, let's bring them through and see how that pulls together.

Speaker A:

So go ahead and send them on through.

Speaker A:

Knock, knock.

Speaker A:

This is David.

Speaker A:

Who am I talking to?

Tyler:

Hi, David.

Tyler:

My name's Tyler.

Speaker A:

Hello.

Speaker A:

Who's this?

Tyler:

Can you hear me?

Speaker A:

Say that again.

Speaker A:

I can't hear you.

Tyler:

Can you hear me now?

Speaker A:

Yeah, a little bit better.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Who's this?

Tyler:

My name's Tyler.

Speaker A:

Hi, Tyler.

Speaker A:

How are you?

Tyler:

I'm doing okay.

Tyler:

I'm struggling today spiritually.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Tyler:

You kept repeating the lines, and it made me think about, how do we know God chose us for his purpose?

Tyler:

The choice on our part to accept him as Lord and Savior?

Tyler:

How do we know that he chose us to be a part of his kingdom?

Speaker A:

That's a great question.

Speaker A:

So I'm going to give you.

Speaker A:

And I want to give you that answer.

Speaker A:

I want you to kind of think this through.

Speaker A:

When people talk about free will and predestination, okay?

Speaker A:

Which they say, well, if it's free will, they go, it's predestination.

Speaker A:

It's free will.

Speaker A:

It's predestination.

Speaker A:

It's both.

Speaker A:

It's always been both.

Speaker A:

It's never been anything but both.

Speaker A:

And here's how it goes.

Speaker A:

You wouldn't feel the pull or know the pull to the kingdom if God never pulled you.

Speaker A:

You would never have the pull.

Speaker A:

But then again, let me give you something else.

Speaker A:

You would never stress or not stress, but fret about sin if God didn't pull you towards him.

Speaker A:

You wouldn't care if you weren't God's property.

Speaker A:

You would care less.

Speaker A:

But because you are God's property, you know you want to make the right decisions.

Speaker A:

You know you want to do these things right.

Speaker A:

You bear responsibility for decision making.

Speaker A:

You need to make from your side of it.

Speaker A:

But God knows everything about you and pulls you.

Speaker A:

And you would never be pulled.

Speaker A:

You would never be connected.

Speaker A:

You would never be desirous.

Speaker A:

You would.

Speaker A:

You would never shun your own sin if you weren't pulled in by him.

Speaker A:

He actually is, behind the scenes, the author of all of it.

Speaker A:

But you and I still bear responsibility, like Adam and Eve for the decisions we make.

Speaker A:

And we make those decisions and have to be accountable before God.

Speaker A:

But we wouldn't care if God didn't call us.

Speaker A:

That's the big ticket.

Speaker A:

So they work together.

Tyler:

Is there a scripture to back that up?

Speaker A:

Oh, sure.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Because in fact, we're going to.

Speaker A:

I don't want to do it ahead of time, but if you will, look at Romans, chapter nine.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

I mean, I'm just going to.

Speaker A:

Just real quickly, let me just share it with you and then you can tell me what you think.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

I'll just share this scripture with you real quickly.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Verse 11 of Romans 9.

Speaker A:

But before they were born, before they had done anything good or bad, Rebekah received a message from God.

Speaker A:

This message proves that God chooses according to his own plan, not according to our good or bad works.

Speaker A:

She was told, the descendants of your older son will serve the descendants of the younger son.

Speaker A:

In the words of the scripture, Jacob have I loved, but I have rejected.

Speaker A:

Esau.

Speaker A:

What can we say?

Speaker A:

Was God being unfair?

Speaker A:

Of course not.

Speaker A:

God said to Moses, I'll show mercy on who else.

Speaker A:

Show mercy and I'll show compassion on who else show compassion.

Speaker A:

Get this right here.

Speaker A:

Ready?

Speaker A:

So receiving God's promise is not up to us.

Speaker A:

We can't get it by choosing it or working hard for it.

Speaker A:

God will show mercy to anyone he chooses.

Speaker A:

For the scripture says, God told Pharaoh, I have appointed you for this very purpose of displaying my power in you, so that my fame might spread throughout the earth.

Speaker A:

So you see, God shows mercy to some just because he wants to.

Speaker A:

And he chooses to make some people refuse to to listen.

Speaker A:

So that's in Romans 9.

Speaker A:

And that we're going to get to that.

Speaker A:

But the point is, it doesn't alleviate our responsibility, but it shows you the underneath pull that God has brought towards all of us.

Speaker A:

To say the only reason that you could even desire and here's where it really comes down to.

Speaker A:

And I think, Tyler, you'll like this.

Speaker A:

You can't breathe without God's hand help, Correct?

Speaker A:

I mean, without the gift of God, not one person would breathe.

Speaker A:

Then how could you do anything else without his help?

Speaker A:

Since you can't breathe without his help, how could you do anything else?

Speaker A:

Everything ultimately comes from God.

Speaker A:

That's where you get that.

Speaker A:

What's that?

Tyler:

So, I mean, with that logic, then, if he's giving every person on this planet breath, we are all called, correct?

Tyler:

Every one of us.

Speaker A:

Correct.

Speaker A:

Well, many are called, but few are chosen.

Speaker A:

So that's exactly right.

Speaker A:

And everybody has that opportunity.

Speaker A:

Unless you're like the Son of perdition, which is a separate incident.

Speaker A:

But the idea behind that is we have a responsibility to respond.

Speaker A:

It's not like we're faultless, because we will be called on the carpet for the decisions we made, the actions we've taken, the thoughts that we've had, and the words that we've used.

Speaker A:

We'll still be judged for that.

Speaker A:

But God knows whose heart is inclined to him.

Speaker A:

And then the argument comes, well, does God originate it or does he know?

Speaker A:

Because it's a foreknowledge.

Speaker A:

And it's like, great question.

Speaker A:

When we get there, we can ask him because it's a little bit of a tough.

Speaker A:

It's a little tougher to get to that specific part of the core of God.

Speaker A:

But there's no way you would want God without God helping that process.

Speaker A:

You can't want them.

Speaker A:

You can't have anything.

Tyler:

Thank you so much for letting me interrupt you.

Speaker A:

Oh, dad, no problem, man.

Speaker A:

I know, and believe me, I've gone through this for years and years, and everybody's like, this is a perfect answer.

Speaker A:

This is a perfect answer.

Speaker A:

Here's the perfect answer.

Speaker A:

On our end, we have responsibility.

Speaker A:

On God's end, he's doing the choosing.

Speaker A:

Okay, well, let's work our end, because that's what we're supposed to do.

Tyler:

I appreciate David.

Speaker A:

You got it, man.

Speaker A:

God bless you, bro.

Tyler:

Hey, God bless you, too.

Speaker A:

Bye.

Speaker A:

Bye.

Speaker A:

And so Tyler asks just a brilliant question.

Speaker A:

And it's the same theological question.

Speaker A:

It shouldn't divide anybody.

Speaker A:

I mean, that's the only thing that bothers me, is this kind of thing divides people.

Speaker A:

Like, no, it's this.

Speaker A:

No, it's this.

Speaker A:

No, it's this.

Speaker A:

I'm from Peter, I'm from Paul, I'm from this.

Speaker A:

I'm from this.

Speaker A:

Stop.

Speaker A:

You're going to find out that some weeks that you live, it's all about making the right decisions.

Speaker A:

And other weeks that you live, it's all about God stepping around your right decisions and getting you through it.

Speaker A:

Anyway, it works together.

Speaker A:

They're not really working separately.

Speaker A:

All right, the trivia question, which I still have to answer is, and I love this question, by the way, so just bear with me.

Speaker A:

The trivia question is, what girl answered the door when Peter knocked at the house of Mary, the mother of John?

Speaker A:

Acts 12, 12, 13?

Speaker A:

And the answer is the neighbor to Mary Tyler Moore.

Speaker A:

Rhoda.

Speaker A:

Rhoda.

Speaker A:

Remember Rhoda.

Speaker A:

Oh, Rhoda.

Speaker A:

I like it.

Speaker A:

All right, we are gonna take a break.

Speaker A:

There is somebody calling in, but we're gonna take a break, see if they can hang on.

Speaker A:

You're listening to the David Spoon Experience right here on Kaam 770, the truce station here in Texas.

Speaker A:

Short break.

Speaker A:

We'll be back.

Speaker A:

Don't go anywhere.

Speaker A:

The David Spoon Experience.

Speaker A:

I'm not gonna do an overriding teaching that will make the Baptist or the Church of Christ proud.

Speaker A:

So neither one of you groups can be all excited about this because that's not the purpose of this.

Speaker A:

Here's where we're picking it up.

Speaker A:

As verse 34 ends Eunuch, the eunuch asked Philip, what was Isaiah talking about himself or someone else?

Speaker A:

Verse 35 from Acts, chapter 9 or chapter 8, said, Philip says Philip began with the same scripture and then began to tell him about the good news about Jesus.

Speaker A:

As they rode along, they came to some water.

Speaker A:

And the eunuch sit, said, look, there is some water.

Speaker A:

Why can't I be baptized?

Speaker A:

So let's just stop right there.

Speaker A:

When Philip was explaining the gospel to the eunuch, he had to include the understandings or the teachings of baptism, or the eunuch never would have said, why can't I be baptized?

Speaker A:

He never would have said.

Speaker A:

It never would have come up unless Philip had brought that information to light.

Speaker A:

In multiple translations, it then says, you can.

Speaker A:

Philip answered, if you believe with all your heart.

Speaker A:

And the eunuch replied, I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God.

Speaker A:

This is often known as believers baptism.

Speaker A:

Some texts will show this in the footnote.

Speaker A:

I disagree that it should be reduced to the footnote.

Speaker A:

I think it's a part of the text.

Speaker A:

I would not fellowship with you over that.

Speaker A:

I just think it is a part of the text because he asks a very pointed question.

Speaker A:

And in this exchange, Philip is giving a very pointed answer.

Speaker A:

So he's like, there's some water.

Speaker A:

I want to be baptized.

Speaker A:

I want to respond to the gospel.

Speaker A:

I want to Say yes.

Speaker A:

And Philip responds by saying, you can.

Speaker A:

You can get baptized.

Speaker A:

As long as you believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God, you can be baptized.

Speaker A:

Now, why that's important is because this is the difference between many different groups about who can be baptized.

Speaker A:

Some people think, well, a child can be baptized, yeah, but a child can't believe in Jesus.

Speaker A:

So then how can a child be baptized?

Speaker A:

That's the argument.

Speaker A:

Okay, those again, those are not fellowship issues.

Speaker A:

Those are disagreements.

Speaker A:

You know, we spent.

Speaker A:

I spent 10 minutes talking about understanding who's got the spirit of God and who doesn't have the spirit of God.

Speaker A:

When you have a difference of application of scripture, that person's not an evil person.

Speaker A:

They're not some kind of demonic whatever.

Speaker A:

They see something different than you.

Speaker A:

Okay?

Speaker A:

They're genuinely in a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Speaker A:

The blood of Jesus Christ is what redeems us.

Speaker A:

They are acknowledging their heavenly father, praying, our Father, who art thou in heaven.

Speaker A:

They drink of the same Holy Spirit.

Speaker A:

They come to a different conclusion.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

What else is new?

Speaker A:

Does everybody think McDonald's is the best fast food?

Speaker A:

Are you kidding?

Speaker A:

There's only a few people.

Speaker A:

Welcome back to the David Spoon Experience.

Speaker A:

Thank you for joining us here at Kaam 770, the Truth Station here in Texas.

Speaker A:

That's Ka Men 770, the Truth Station here in Texas.

Speaker A:

Excellent pickup by Aunt Deb.

Speaker A:

How.

Speaker A:

That has a very similar tone to what we were just talking about with Tyler.

Speaker A:

Because it's important to understand that there are sometimes people sit on one side or the other side, and that part's fine.

Speaker A:

When somebody teaches something different than your eschatology or ecclesiology, that doesn't make them evil.

Speaker A:

The key is to make sure that the core tenets are not altered, which is redemption through Jesus Christ.

Speaker A:

I mean, that's just really the starting point of all of that, Right?

Speaker A:

Okay, cool.

Speaker A:

All right, before we do anything else, we do have somebody on the line, which tells you already the rest of the show probably won't go anything the way we think it will.

Speaker A:

Welcome to my world.

Speaker A:

Anyhow, we do have somebody on the line.

Speaker A:

Let's go ahead and send them on through.

Speaker A:

Knock, knock.

Speaker A:

This is David.

Speaker A:

Who am I talking to?

Speaker A:

Hello, Hello.

Speaker A:

Hi, Ann.

Speaker A:

How are ya?

Ann:

Hey.

Ann:

Oh, I started listening to you.

Ann:

I got in a little late on your show.

Ann:

I'm glad you taken my call.

Ann:

Oh, I'm just down today.

Ann:

I don't know.

Ann:

Allergies and hurting.

Ann:

You know, I'm elderly lady, like I told you.

Ann:

And this winter, this cold has really been Pulling me down.

Ann:

And I made it through them bad days.

Ann:

My niece invited me to come stay with her, but, no, I told her I'd much rather be here at home.

Ann:

So I didn't go.

Ann:

I didn't want to go stay for no five days.

Ann:

You know, one day would have been okay, but I made it okay.

Ann:

Toe warmers and hand warmers and a bunch of blankets and.

Ann:

But this cold.

Ann:

And I was out yesterday and the day before for a little bit, trying to get some sunshine since the sun finally came out and getting recycled together.

Ann:

But then when that wind picked up and it got colder, well, boy, I was hurting.

Ann:

So I just had to stop and go in the house.

Speaker A:

Well, I understand being a little bit bluesy from it.

Speaker A:

So here's what I'd like to do.

Speaker A:

I'd like to pray for you that the joy of the Lord would be in abundance in your heart and mind so that the discouragement of the cold and the things around you don't overwhelm you.

Speaker A:

Is that okay for me to pray?

Ann:

Yes, it is.

Ann:

I know there's nothing we can do about our weather.

Ann:

We have to tolerate it.

Ann:

But, you know, when you get old, it's a different thing.

Ann:

When I was young, you just run and go and, you know, it really didn't bother you.

Ann:

But since I have some arthritis and osteoporosis, I have to be careful.

Ann:

And when I put on a whole bunch of clothes within, it makes my neck, My shoulders start hurting, you know, So I just have to work it out the best way I can.

Speaker A:

Well, let's pray.

Speaker A:

Let's pray that God will help you work it out.

Speaker A:

How about that?

Speaker A:

Let's pray.

Ann:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Father, we come before you right now.

Speaker A:

We lift up Ann to you.

Speaker A:

She's a precious sister of ours in you.

Speaker A:

And we thank you that you're her heavenly Father and that she's a part of our family as Christians.

Speaker A:

And we ask you, Lord, the cold weather for some people can be discouraging.

Speaker A:

And sometimes when it's cloudy, it gets discouraging a little bit more bluesy.

Speaker A:

Lord, what we're asking for is the joy that comes from your presence.

Speaker A:

And your Word teaches us clearly in your presence is the fullness of joy.

Speaker A:

So we're asking for the joy that comes from your presence to touch her heart, not just inwardly, but even in her home, that there would be a sense of the atmosphere just being blessed because of your presence, because of your grace, because of your mercy, that Ann would find a seed or two or three of joy and of satisfaction.

Speaker A:

And contentment.

Speaker A:

And that the darkness and the blues and the windy stuff would not discourage her because her focus of her mind and her heart are on you and your kingdom and your love for her.

Speaker A:

And you know exactly what she's going through.

Speaker A:

You know exactly where it's uncomfortable.

Speaker A:

You know everything she needs physically, spiritually, emotionally, psychologically.

Speaker A:

And we are asking you, heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, that you would put joy, your joy, your presence into her house and into her heart, that she might be lifted up and have a new song in her mouth and put her feet on a different rock and let her be strong in you and in her.

Speaker A:

Focus on you and encourage her.

Speaker A:

For you are a God of encouragement.

Speaker A:

We ask you to bless her and thank you for her.

Speaker A:

We pray this in Jesus name.

Speaker A:

Amen and amen.

Ann:

Amen.

Ann:

Thank you, sir.

Speaker A:

You are more than welcome.

Speaker A:

It's great to have you call and we will continue to pray for you.

Speaker A:

Okay?

Ann:

Yes, sir.

Ann:

I appreciate it very much.

Ann:

I enjoy your show.

Speaker A:

Thank you.

Speaker A:

God bless you.

Ann:

God bless you, sir.

Ann:

Bye bye.

Speaker A:

Bye bye.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker A:

Great job by Ann, just sharing her heart.

Speaker A:

We've got one trivia question.

Speaker A:

I've got to do one history.

Speaker A:

You're not going to escape this history because it's Dave's most important history.

Speaker A:

Doesn't matter if it's anybody else's.

Speaker A:

Isn't that mean for me to say, here's your last trivia question from Acts 10.

Speaker A:

A little tougher, but listen.

Speaker A:

What was the occupation of Cornelius?

Speaker A:

Was he a fisherman, a centurion, a tax collector, or a scribe?

Speaker A:

Acts 10:1.

Speaker A:

Acts 10:1.

Speaker A:

What was the occupation of Cornelius?

Speaker A:

Fisherman, centurion, tax collector or scribe?

Speaker A:

Acts 10:1.

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

-:

Speaker A:

You can send an email davidemousincrease.org okay, that's what we got going.

Speaker A:

That now before we do anything else, any color, I have to do this one piece of history because if I don't, I'm going to cry.

Speaker A:

Okay, so got the trivia question.

Speaker A:

We just asked it.

Speaker A:

We get somebody ready to answer it.

Speaker C:

Yes, yes.

Speaker A:

Trivia question.

Speaker A:

They just need to wait for this one split second.

Speaker A:

Can they wait for one split second?

Speaker A:

All right, do the history and you'll understand why when I do it.

Speaker A:

Go ahead and do it.

Speaker A:

Let's go live faith in the past.

Speaker A:

Let's go live faith in the.

Speaker A:

right, so this isn't even it:

Speaker A:

I played the clarinet when I was in band in elementary.

Speaker A:

But the big thing for today is National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day.

Speaker A:

Come on.

Speaker A:

Get it.

Speaker A:

Come on, Stella.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker C:

Anyway, how did I know it was.

Speaker A:

Food and pastrami, my friend?

Speaker A:

Oh, come on.

Speaker A:

All right, Somebody's ready to answer a trivia question.

Speaker A:

Let's send them on through.

Speaker A:

Knock, knock.

Speaker A:

This is David.

Speaker A:

Who am I talking to?

Speaker D:

Hey, David, it's Samson.

Speaker A:

Hey, Samson.

Speaker A:

What's happening, bro?

Speaker A:

You ready for the Triv?

Tyler:

Sure.

Speaker A:

Okay, here we go from Acts, chapter 10.

Speaker A:

What was the occupation of Cornelius?

Speaker A:

Was he a fisherman, a centurion, a tax collector or a scribe?

Speaker D:

I'll go with a centurion.

Speaker A:

That is 100% correct.

Speaker A:

Like I did that 100 centurion.

Speaker A:

Okay, just thought I.

Speaker A:

David, I have.

Speaker D:

A question for you.

Speaker D:

I was looking for some theological terminology.

Speaker D:

This is the very first time I came across.

Speaker D:

It's called probably I'm gonna butcher it the way I gonna say it.

Speaker D:

Apophatic theology.

Speaker A:

Wait, say that again.

Speaker A:

Apophathic, Apostolictic.

Speaker D:

No, I'll spell it for you.

Speaker D:

A P, O, P, H, A T.

Speaker A:

I, C.

Speaker A:

Oh, so apostasizing.

Speaker A:

That's the theology.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker A:

So spell it again.

Speaker A:

I can tell you what it is.

Speaker A:

A P, O, S.

Speaker A:

No, ap, O.

Speaker D:

P, H, A T, I, C.

Speaker A:

Ophthetic.

Speaker A:

I don't know how to pronounce that.

Speaker A:

I'm not.

Speaker A:

Unless.

Speaker D:

That's why I say I'm going to butcher it.

Speaker A:

Yeah, you know what?

Speaker A:

I am, too.

Speaker A:

I mean, I'm not going to.

Speaker A:

Because.

Speaker A:

Unless it has to do with.

Speaker A:

What is it that you came across that it brought up.

Speaker A:

What is the theology?

Speaker A:

I mean, in which I'm hoping.

Speaker D:

I was looking for some theological terminology.

Speaker D:

So this is the very first time they say it's a negative theology.

Speaker D:

Something like that.

Speaker D:

So I say I need to know more about it from.

Speaker D:

Dr.

Speaker D:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I'm not going to be able to answer you because I don't have that in my research bowl.

Speaker A:

So I can't do it because you're saying it's ophat.

Speaker D:

No, no, Apo.

Speaker A:

Oh, Apo.

Speaker A:

You know, you think I could spell, wouldn't you?

Speaker A:

But you'd be wrong.

Speaker A:

Apo.

Speaker A:

Ophatic.

Speaker A:

Oh, there it is.

Speaker A:

I gotcha.

Speaker A:

I gotcha.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker A:

It's a way of thinking about God that describes God by what he is not rather than what he is.

Speaker A:

That's what it is.

Speaker A:

It's known as a negative theology.

Speaker A:

So you're Describing God by what he isn't versus what he is.

Speaker A:

So in other words, you're describing God in terms that he's not.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

He's not sinful.

Speaker A:

He's not.

Speaker A:

You know, he's like.

Speaker A:

You're approaching it from the other side of it, which is like.

Speaker A:

Okay, it's just like everybody else got some theology or something going on.

Speaker A:

Here's my biggest advice.

Speaker A:

Don't worry about it.

Speaker D:

Oh, okay.

Speaker A:

That's it.

Speaker D:

Well, no, for the sake of my knowledge, I was just studying it.

Speaker A:

Yeah, so it comes on the second.

Speaker A:

It comes on the backside of it.

Speaker A:

But see, like.

Speaker A:

But some of it.

Speaker A:

Some of it's not really good because it says God is not wise, but God is.

Speaker A:

God is not wise, but God is not ignorant.

Speaker A:

That's stupid.

Speaker A:

Because God is all wise.

Speaker A:

So that doesn't make any sense.

Speaker A:

So some of it's just not.

Speaker A:

It's just not bearing.

Speaker A:

God is not existent.

Speaker A:

It's a philosophical approach from mankind to God as opposed to just using his words.

Speaker A:

So here's my encouragement.

Speaker A:

Nah, don't worry about it.

Speaker D:

Oh, okay.

Speaker A:

That's what I tell you.

Speaker D:

I'd rather eat a sloppy joe sandwich.

Speaker A:

Yeah, you can do that.

Speaker A:

Do that.

Speaker A:

All right, my brother.

Speaker A:

God bless.

Speaker D:

All right.

Speaker D:

Thank you so much.

Speaker D:

The real doctor.

Speaker A:

You're better than Dr.

Speaker A:

Phil Balder anyway.

Speaker A:

All right, my bro.

Speaker D:

All right.

Speaker D:

Love you, brother.

Speaker A:

Love you too.

Speaker D:

God bless.

Speaker A:

Bye bye.

Speaker A:

All right, so it's a good question.

Speaker A:

It's just not something I've come across.

Speaker A:

I mean, there's always new philosophies and new things coming along.

Speaker A:

Somebody will say it's 20,000 years old.

Speaker A:

No, it's not.

Speaker A:

All right, let's go back to just want to close out on all things, work together for good.

Speaker A:

So we stuck in that one little part.

Speaker A:

And we know that all things are.

Speaker A:

That God causes all things.

Speaker A:

I prefer the rendition that God causes because I believe God is the agency behind things that take place.

Speaker A:

Again, not a fellowship issue, but what it does imply is that eventually something will be good.

Speaker A:

We talked about this, and it's one of the Phils.

Speaker A:

It doesn't mean you have this disease.

Speaker A:

You don't have to be thankful for the disease.

Speaker A:

But what comes out out that the Lord does.

Speaker A:

And Jay mentioned that yesterday.

Speaker A:

Just by the scars that we know, we know the heart of God more.

Speaker A:

And just by the stuff we go through, we get a better identity and connection to the Lord.

Speaker A:

And that's a big thing that happened to me.

Speaker A:

So it happened to me when I went through My bad church experience, and it ended up being a cult.

Speaker A:

So the idea behind this is that I think that's pretty straightforward, is that God causes it to go in a certain direction.

Speaker A:

If you love God, you want to please Him.

Speaker A:

That's how you know.

Speaker A:

And if you're called according to his purpose, you want to do the things that make him smile.

Speaker A:

That's kind of like the same statement, but put together in two different phrases.

Speaker A:

Everything works together for good.

Speaker A:

To those who love God.

Speaker A:

I love God.

Speaker A:

I want to honor Him.

Speaker A:

I want to do what's right before him and that are called according to his purpose.

Speaker A:

I want to do what he wants me to.

Speaker A:

I want to take hold of that for which God took hold of me.

Speaker A:

I want to fulfill what he created me to be.

Speaker A:

That's what that has to do with.

Speaker A:

And I want to do it because I love Him.

Speaker A:

And in that, I know that whatever we're going through, he'll make it become good.

Speaker A:

Even if it doesn't start off good, it will become good because God is able to do it.

Speaker A:

And next week we'll touch back on this.

Speaker A:

But I just want you to understand, we know this, that he causes it all to work for good.

Speaker A:

We love him and want to do what's pleasing to him before his eyes and before his heart.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

If you're a real Christian.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

All right, folks, you've been listening to the David Spoon Experience right here on Kaam 770, the truth station here in Texas.

Speaker A:

22 and a half hour break.

Speaker A:

And we'll come back, More insanity with Spoonanity.

Speaker A:

Talk to you then.

Speaker A:

The views expressed on the preceding program were those of the speakers and not necessarily those of kaam, DJRD Broadcasting or its sponsors.
