The economic forecast for 2020 looked great for about two months and then SLAM! The shit hit the fan and it all came to a screeching halt. We can’t go into the office, kids can’t go to school, you can’t find toilet paper, I’m washing my fucking groceries before I bring them in the house.
How are we supposed to sell to people and companies during this time, when we are so on edge that we are washing our fucking groceries?
Is it even appropriate to try to sell?
The answer is yes, yes, if you adopt the idea that selling is serving. If you are actually helping people along the way.
Here’s some Do’s and Don’ts for how to sell and stay connected to your potential clients during Covid19.
Do’s
- Get in touch with them.
- Remember to be human
- Be honest and transparent
- Think of creative ways that you can be an asset
- Be Patient
Don’ts
- Don’t let anxiety take over your values
- Don’t put your needs before your clients
- Don’t aggressively pitch
- Don’t send unnecessary communications
Yes, you can sell during the pandemic, yes, you can do business development during the pandemic. Yes, you can create a pipeline of leads during the pandemic, but you have to Embrace all the tools that make you an asset to your clients and your potential clients and use those tools to serve first and then sell.
People will choose to do business with you because they want to. Your clients can always find someone else doing the same thing as you or selling the same product. In the end it will be the personal connection and how you treat them that will ensure that they chose you.
This is your time to stand out against your competition, to be the person that helped them fix something, came up with a solution to something else, treated them like a person going through a pandemic and not a potential sale.
