-:
Here in the UK, it's a bank holiday weekend this weekend, so there's Saturday, Sunday and then Monday off work if you happen
-:
to work a traditional role where those are your hours.
-:
At this time, this end of vacation, this end of holiday season, there is a feeling of new beginnings, new term, perhaps new
-:
uniform, that idea that we're hopeful about new starts.
-:
We are going to move towards something new, whether that's starting a new education program or getting our woolly jumpers out and putting our shorts away.
-:
When we have this opportunity to move towards something new and improving, we also get to work move away from something that perhaps wasn't serving us so well. Let's take stock.
-:
This summer, have you been binge drinking?
-:
Did you know that just 2 glasses of wine can be considered binge drinking?
-:
If you're drinking the 250 millilitre glasses, the recommended limit is 14 units for men and women in the UK.
-:
We can hit 6 units in just those two glasses.
-:
Now, the recommended units in the UK up until recently were for 14 units for women and 21 for men.
-:
Now, I'm no scientist, but I already know to be suspicious about that unit calculation being equal for men and women.
-:
Why wasn't the women's recommendation moved down to 7 when the men's one was moved down to 14? How strange. Call me cynical. Canada is much more progressive.
-:
Did you know that their recommended unit of alcohol intake is 0. Yes. 0. How bold, how brave, how fabulous.
-:
I really hope that the rest of the world start to follow suit with their brilliant, brilliant idea.
-:
In preparation for the bank holiday weekend, our supermarkets will have offers encouraging us to buy.
-:
There'll be discounts on beer, on wine, and on spirits.
-:
There will be many, many adverts in our newspapers, our magazines, and popping up in our social media news feeds.
-:
Over this weekend, there might be celebrations, parties, family lunches, gatherings, get together.
-:
Ask yourself this question: at the moment does my lifestyle regularly revolve around a drink?
-:
If it does, maybe it's time to use this new term, new season, to rethink it. We shrug it off.
-:
We tell ourselves it's normal to wake up after a big night or, in fact, a small night feeling lousy, and it's not.
-:
It's not normal, and you can choose different at the end of this summer season.
-:
