Wisdom-Trek / Creating a Legacy

Welcome to Day 216 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.

This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom

7 Thought Patterns for a Rich and Satisfying Life #2

Thank you for joining us for our 7 days a week, 7 minutes of wisdom podcast. This is Day 216 of our Trek. Yesterday was the start of a brand new year, and I want to emphasize again how important it is for us to have the proper mindset as we begin 2016. For the first three days of this year, we will explore how we need to renew our minds so we can transform our lives. After that, we will spend a few days focusing on setting our plans and goals for this new year. If you miss any of our Wisdom-Trek episodes, please go to Wisdom-Trek.com to listen to them and read the daily journal.

We are recording our podcast from our studio at Home2 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Paula and I arrived back in Indian Trail late New Year’s Eve and were able to sleep in a little on New Year’s Day. The remainder of the day was invested in watching the Rose Bowl Parade, working on more life planning, and visiting with Paula’s sister Ruth and her husband Joe who brought Mom Jarvis back from her Christmas week with them.

Let’s continue on our Wisdom-Trek for 2016, as we hike our trail for today on the Mountain of Transformation. Personal transformation of any area in our life first begins on the trail of renewing our minds, or it might be said, changing the way we think.  The only way 2016 will be a better year is if we change how we think.  The trek up Transformation Mountain will take us three days as we explore the…

7 Thought Patterns for a Rich and Satisfying Life

I stated yesterday that if you desire to live a life that is rich and satisfying in 2016 and beyond, then it starts with changing the way that you think. It is such a simple concept, and yet for most of us, it is so difficult to do consistently each day. Your thought patterns, your habits, and the manner in which you live is so engrained in you. To make significant and lasting changes, it takes consistent and persistent commitment to change the way you think. Changing the way you think first begins with what you allow to enter into your mind. Your mind is programmed for certain thought patterns and outcomes based on what you feed it. Yesterday we covered the first two thought patterns of trust and thankfulness. Today we will explore the next two thought patterns that you need to infuse into your lives to make a real and lasting change. The first of those is…

3. Truth

If you want your life to be transformed, you must fill your mind with thoughts of truth. You must meditate on the Word of God and fill your heart and mind with the revelation of the truth from the Word of God, which will bring freedom and deliverance in your life. You should not be deceived by the lies of the devil. You must put away thoughts of lies, slander, gossip, impurity, falsehood, and evil. You must not allow your minds to be filled with the filth of this world and not allow your mind to dwell on the evil that may reach your ears. You must meditate on thoughts of goodness and purity and truth and not allow yourself to be deceived by appearances. When your minds are filled with the truth, your life will be transformed.

Your mind is a powerful thing. When you fill it with positive thoughts your life will start to change.
You must be willing to seek truth.

John 8:32  – And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

You must be willing to obey the truth.

Genesis 3:1-5
The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”

“Of course, we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. “It’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’”

“You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman.  “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”

You must be willing to accept the truth.

Romans 8:32 – Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?

You must be willing to believe the truth.

Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

You must be willing to spend time in the truth.

Psalms 1:2-3

But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.
They are like trees planted along the riverbank,
bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither,
and they prosper in all they do.

You must be willing to meditate on the truth.

Joshua 1:8 – Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.

You must be willing to think about the truth.

Philippians 4:8 – And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

4. Timing

If you want your life to be transformed, you fill your minds with the understanding of God’s timing and purpose. God has His divine timing to fulfill His plans and purposes for your life. You must not be restless, hasty, and impatient with God. You must be patient until you receive the harvest for all that you have sown. Only then can you inherit the promises of God. God may bring deliverance little by little, step by step according to your ability to handle the changes it may bring. You must allow God to develop His character in you through the various circumstances through which He leads you. When your minds and hearts comprehend the timing of God, you will allow Him to transform your life according to His divine plan and purpose.

You must be willing to wait for God’s promises.

Hebrews [10:35]-36

So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

You must be willing to wait for God’s blessings.

Galatians 6:9 – So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

You must be willing to wait for God’s timing.

Deuteronomy 7:22 – The Lord your God will drive those nations out ahead of you little by little. You will not clear them away all at once. Otherwise, the wild animals would multiply too quickly for you.

You must be willing to wait for God’s firm foundation.

I Peter 5:10 – In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.

You must be willing to wait for God’s complete provision.

James 1:2-4

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

On the first two segments of our trek up Transformation Mountain, we explored the concepts of trust and thankfulness. Today we explored the concepts of truth and timing. These four segments of our trek are crucial for changing the way we think and renewing our minds. If we apply the principles that we explore this week, we will change our lives by changing our thought patterns. Tomorrow we will cover the elements of travail, tempter, and teachable. So encourage your friends and family to join us, and then come along tomorrow for another day of our Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.
