Hello and welcome to today's episode of the Made for More podcast. Today is a bit of a special episode because most recently I have launched a very special report on the future of leadership in the age of AI. So today we're diving into a big shift that's redefining what it means to lead in 2025 and beyond. And really, that's moving from authority to adaptability. Not too long ago, leadership was simple, or at least it looked that way. The person at the top had the title, the knowledge, and the power to control outcomes. Leaders were expected to have all of the answers, call all of the shops, and keep everything moving in a straight line. But let's be honest, the world doesn't exist like that anymore. We're living in an age of AI. Hybrid work, generational change, and constant disruption. Information is moving at lightning speeds and problems don't come with simple answers anymore. And your people, they're not looking for a boss with all the authority. What they're looking for is a leader with adaptability. And this is really why authority no longer works. Here's the thing. The old command and control model of leadership simply does not hold up in today's complexity. We've got things like information overload, where no one leader can know or process everything. We've got generational change. Younger employees don't buy into rigid hierarchies. They value collaboration, purpose, and shared ownership. There's disruption happening everywhere. Authority might bring stability when things are calm, but when the rules are changing daily, authority collapses under the weight. Leaders who cling to that authority, they become bottlenecks. Leaders who cultivate adaptability, they create resilience. And here's what adaptability looks like. Now, let's get clear. Adaptability doesn't mean being flaky. It doesn't mean bending to every breeze. Adaptability is courage. It's the willing to, willingness rather, to change direction when the landscape shifts. And here's what it really looks like in practice. Listening before acting. Authority dictates, adaptability inquires. Testing and learning. Authority insists on being right, adaptability experiments and adjusts. empowering others, authority hoards decisions, adaptability shares ownership and trusts their team. Thinking most recently about the global change pandemic, the leaders who thrived weren't the ones clinging to rigid processes, they were the ones adapting in real time, pivoting to the new realities, keeping their people connected and still moving the mission forward. So how can we build adaptability in your leadership? How can you build adaptability in your leadership? How do you become more adaptable as a leader? I think there's three powerful practices to consider. Scenario planning. Don't just make one plan. Create three. The best case, the worst case, and the most likely case. That way, when circumstances change, you're not paralyzed and running around. You're actually ready. The second one, and this is probably my most favourite, is curiosity mindset. Trade the I know for tell me more. Ask better questions and you'll get better answers. Model learning right in front of your team. Show them that curiosity is a strength. Flexible cadence. This is really talking about adjusting the rhythm of your leadership to match the season of work. Sometimes it's daily alignment, sometimes it's quarterly reflection. Adaptability is about sensing what's needed right now. The future of leadership doesn't reward the loudest voice in the room. It rewards the most adaptable one. If authority was about having answers, adaptability is about creating the conditions where the answers can emerge. And that's the kind of leadership our future demands. If you're interested more about what the future of leadership looks like when it comes to AI, now I'm speaking to you as a leadership expert, not as an AI expert.
