Amy shares her powerful revelation from Ephesians 6:13—how learning to just "be still" and stand is actually our greatest preparation for battle. We explore the profound truth found in Zechariah 4:6, reminding us that we fight not by our own might, but by God's Spirit.

You will also discover the critical importance of humble surrender and how to properly invoke the legal, authoritative name of Jesus Christ to command the darkness to depart. Tune in to learn how to let go of your perfectionism, trade human strategy for divine intervention, and step into God's ultimate strength today! Stop striving in your own power and start thriving with God as your general.

Episode Takeaways

  • Release Spiritual Perfectionism: The phrase "doing it the right way" often triggers our human pride and perfectionism. We must stop striving to perform or control the battle and move into humble surrender.
  • The Power of Stillness (Ephesians 6:13): Having done all, we must simply stand. Sometimes the most powerful preparation for spiritual warfare is taking five minutes to just "be" still, away from distractions, and feel God's presence.
  • Not By Might (Zechariah 4:6): When facing an impossible mountain of opposition, we cannot outmaneuver the adversary with human strategy. We must rely completely on the Spirit of God.
  • Invoke the Name of Jesus Christ: We cannot command the enemy to depart on our own authority. As James 4:7 teaches, we must first submit to God, and then actively resist the devil using the legal, authoritative name of the Savior.

Ordinary women, extraordinary faith. When God calls, we say yes. Hello and welcome to the Arise Women of God podcast.

I'm your host, Tamara K. Anderson, and joining me today is the wonderful Amy Johnson. Amy is an amazing woman's ministry leader and a busy mom and grandma with a whirlwind of warmth and laughter.

And she's here to share her battle tested wisdom with us today as we tackle and how to do spiritual warfare the right way. All right, my friend, here's what we're covering in today's episode.

First, releasing perfectionism, how to overcome the human trap of trying to do everything right and perfectly and moving into humble surrender. Next, we're going to talk about not by might, but by my spirit, and how to rely on God's power rather than human strategy.

Then we're going to talk about invoking the name of Jesus Christ, the legal authority we need to command darkness to depart. But first, let's start by addressing a trap so many of us Christian women fall into. Spiritual perfectionism.

When we hear the phrase doing spiritual warfare the right way. Our natural instinct is to try to perform, control and do more.

But let's listen to Amy share why that mindset cringed her spirit and what it means to take unto you the armor of God.

Amy Johnson:

When I first heard this, how to do spiritual warfare the right way, everything inside of me cringed. Everything like my whole spirit was like, no. Because we have this challenge in humanity, mortality. We have to do everything the right way.

We have this perfectionism, right? And so we get caught up in that and then we get caught up in the pride mess because we, we have to do it the right way.

We have to do it the right way. We have, we have to stop that because.

And, and then, and then later, you know, you mentioned with God on our side and we need to actually move forward and prepare ourselves to receive. Or as it says in Ephesians 6, 13, wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God that ye May be able to withstand in the evil day.

ving done all to stand. Covid:

And Covid hit I had actively raised five teenagers for the the previous six years while my husband was traveling. Covid hit I couldn't go anywhere, and I didn't have kids at all, and I didn't have a husband.

He was traveling, doing his thing, and they were keeping him out of town for two months at a time because they didn't want to have to re quarantine him to get him ready to go out to work and stuff. So I was alone and I was like, this is new. And I started to learn how to stand. And this scripture of receiving so that we can stand is what we miss.

We get really frenetic in doing, doing, doing, doing, doing. I just cannot tell you how clearly I have learned that. It is in the stillness we prepare. I'm going all the time. I live in Idaho. I now work full time.

I'm going home once a month at least to take care of my widowed mother and my children. And I work and then I come home at night and I take care of the women in my congregation, and I'm tired.

And the other day my husband came home and I had to go to a meeting. And I was just laying on the floor on my back in our bedroom, looking at the ceiling. And he came in, he was like, are you okay?

I was like, yep, I'm good. And he was like, what are you doing? Just being. He was like, okay, I'm going to go start dinner. Okay. I wasn't on my phone.

I wasn't thinking about all the laundry. I just took five minutes, probably maybe 10 to myself to just stand on my back. I was just being.

And it was during COVID that the Lord taught me that being is really important.

And so I just really, really know that if you really want to take God, which is the only way to do spiritual warfare, as your partner, as your general, you need to be still five minutes a day. Just be still and imagine what it would be like if God was sitting next to you. You don't even have to talk to him. I don't. I just sit there and feel.

And I promise, in the stillness is where we find our Father in heaven. And that is what we need.

Tamara K. Anderson:

I love how Amy pointed out that we have to let go of perfectionism. Doesn't that feel when we try to fight spiritual battles using our own human muscle? We will burn out every single time.

As Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6:10. Finally, my brethren and my sisters, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might.

It is only through the power of Jesus Christ and as we rely on him that we can conquer the enemy of righteousness. We see this exact lesson in Zechariah 4:1:7.

When Zerubbabel was tasked with rebuilding the temple, he faced an impossible mountain of opposition and enemy threats. He was completely overwhelmed. Sound familiar? And trying to outmaneuver the adversary with human strategy.

But the Lord sent the prophet Zechariah with the ultimate key of engagement not by might nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

God declared that those opposing building the temple, although they seemed like they were as big as a mountain, would become flattened like a plane, not by a physical force, but by divine intervention. So, my friends, how do we ensure we are tapping into the strength of our Savior?

Doing spiritual Warfare the right way starts with a submissive and humble heart. As James4.7 tells us, Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Did you notice that first, we need to submit to God and second, invoke the authoritative name of Jesus Christ as your master, Lord and Savior. We cannot command the enemy to depart on our own authority. We do it solely in the name of Jesus Christ.

When the seven sons of Sceva tried to cast out evil spirits in Acts 19 without a true personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the evil spirit answered Jesus, I know and Paul I know. But who are ye? We must turn to Jesus, use His name and rely on his grace. We for he alone is mighty to save.
