Hi! I am Tim Malm . I was a 3x qualifier to the National High School Finals Rodeo and the 2009 National High School Reserve Champion Calf Roper. I suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury in 2010 and am working hard to make a full recovery back to roping. I have made so much progress, but I am still working hard each and every day to reach that goal.

In 2018 I started my own coffee and merchandise business Stronger413. My Stronger line comes from my favorite Bible verse, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens Me" (Philippians 4:13).

What part of the world are you in today?

I'm in the Wyoming God's country.

Wyoming is beautiful, my friend.

I experience the mountains.

Wow, it's beautiful.

Yes.

You talked about praying before we actually got into our conversation.

How about you do that now?

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for this day.

I thank you for Angel and his willingness to interview me.

Lord Jesus, I just ask this podcast to go out to everyone listening that needs some inspiration, that they would draw from my story to keep pressing on, because my story is ultimately your story, Father.

We thank you.

We praise you.

We love you, Lord.

So for those that are listening, who would have heard you speak and wonder what's going on with the way you're speaking, please let them understand your story.

Well, on June 6, 2010, it started off like any other Sunday before.

We got up.

We went to church.

I went to a veggie's house for lunch, and we decided to do some roping practice that afternoon.

And the first steer I tied onto, I roped him around the horns, went left side of my tube, and unbeknownst to me, the rope took it under the right front leg of the horse.

And for the half hitch, so when the rope came tight, the horse went down, and there wasn't a violent fall or violent wreck or anything like that.

It was a sudden jerk, break, and fork that caused whiplash in my brain and caused my brain to shake from one side of my head to the other.

I was transferred by ambulance to Shrine Regional Medical Center, where I spent two weeks in the ICU, and then I was transferred to Englewood, Colorado, or Gregory Meditation Hospital, where I spent almost four months.

And then I came home, and I had the opportunity to speak at numerous Bible studies at radio churches, and even got to speak to almost 2,000 people at Shrine Frontier Days, Frontier Sunday.

But dear little angel of God, it has been good.

Do you remember this from your memory, or did they show you a video of some kind that allowed you to see it in replay?

I have no memory of the day of the accident.

I have a great memory after and before the accident.

I remember these days were really good, but nothing about that time of the accident was kind of a blessing.

It is, I would imagine, because I would imagine you were in a lot of pain at that point, yeah?

I have no idea.

I was unconscious for two weeks.

What was life up to that point?

Were you married?

Did you have children?

Were you a single guy?

I was single, and still am.

But everything before that was revolving around roping and rodeo.

I loved the sport of roping, calf roping, just individually.

And there was my love.

Everything revolved around what I would do to get better to go to BNFR.

Yeah, I saw some videos.

You were amazing.

I saw some videos.

In fact, I saw that you were roping again as well, even today.

Yes, sir.

But God had other plans.

What keeps you going?

Definitely, I could just stop and accept it all as God was mad at me and didn't die.

But God is using this as something amazing in my life.

And he brought the team in to allow me to do some amazing things.

Because of my accident, he brought my business team into life, Stronger 413.

And I had the opportunity to speak to numerous people all over the globe.

How did the idea come about for that, for Stronger 413?

I wanted an avenue to be able to share my story about how amazing God's plan was for us.

And what did you create as a result of it?

What is Stronger 413 about?

Well, Stronger 413 started off as a coffee mug company.

And then they added t-shirts, hats, and then coffee down the line.

Now it's mainly a coffee company.

And I went to probably 20 to 25 different restaurants to find the coffee I got now.

It is amazing coffee at a really good price.

That's amazing.

Again, you just keep going and going.

Are you in pain physically?

Well, I have a super high pain tolerance.

I would imagine.

But I am in no pain usually unless it's my own fault.

Okay.

So then would you, if you could, improve the way you're speaking through technology?

Definitely.

So what is on the horizon for you, Tim?

I want to share the love of Jesus Christ with everyone if possible.

One cup of coffee at a time.

When you think about your relationship with Jesus today, what are you mindful of from the Bible?

Who is a character that reminds you of who you are today?

Well, right now it's Nehemiah.

But I really love David.

What do you like about Nehemiah?

Jesus Christ.

He was so strong and he believed in what he could not see.

But that has not happened yet.

And what do you like about David?

David is the man.

He was so strong when he took down Goliath.

And as someone said, I mean, that had to be scary when you go against a giant.

Those are two characters I love as well.

I love Nehemiah.

Just as you mentioned, I love the part where his truth opened up a way for him to fulfill the vision, right?

When the king asked him, why is your continent so sad?

And he told the truth and it opened up a way for him.

And then with David, I love the fact that, well, I don't really love this, but the reality of no matter what challenge you face and conquer, there's always another.

Exactly what I draw from David is no matter what you've done, God can still use you.

Well, I can imagine how many people are impacted by who you are today.

I would dare say that I think that you're more powerful today than you were when you were considered strong and fit and fast and nimble.

Definitely, yes, without a doubt.

Before my accident, you would have said five people would guess what I was doing in a day.

I would have said, you're crazy.

And now I have over 5,000 friends on Facebook.

Five years from today, you're listening to this conversation.

What's a message you'd leave for future you listening to this?

I would say never give up.

Never give up on God because he's never giving up on you.

So I would keep trying to have one more time because everyone is on the road to recovery.

Whether it be a serious brain injury like mine or a bump on the knee, everyone is on the road to recovery.
