Shownotes

Episode 40 of We Should Probably Edit This – But We Won't is a catch-up episode — and they have a lot to catch up on. Matthew and Nancy recap a summer that included flying to Florida to help Nancy's mom (and discovering a collapsed septic line on arrival), four days of retirement scouting in St. Augustine, and a gender reveal that means grandchild number five is a girl — and she'll be right there in the same town.

There's also the Ultra event in New York City, which got them thinking about how small they are in the grand scheme of things and how much more they want to do. Matthew tipped his bike in the driveway, lost a thumbnail on the Belgian block, and ended up at the ER at 7 AM. They went to a strawberry festival with one strawberry vendor. They did six miles on the Newport cliff walk with an injured hand and couldn't turn back.

Through all of it — health struggles, behavior change, bougie travel standards, and a son who can't decide what he wants for his 30th birthday — they're still figuring it out. Together. Loudly.

💡 Key Takeaways:

  • Four days max — with anyone, anywhere; it keeps everybody loving each other
  • Changing a behavior takes time — years of habits don't shift overnight; give yourself grace
  • Explore before you decide — retirement scouting is about narrowing down, not locking in
  • Bring the joy even when it's hard — especially when you're in a crowd of people who aren't
  • Slow and steady wins — two pounds a month beats crash dieting every time
  • Sometimes you just have to commit — the cliff walk had no exit; you finish or you finish

Transcripts

Speaker A:

Welcome to.

Speaker A:

We should Probably Edit this, But we won't.

Speaker B:

This is about our life's messy journey.

Speaker B:

It's unscripted talks about growth, real laughs sometimes.

Speaker A:

Real laughs sometimes just the chaos and, and we think there's a little bit of comedy here.

Speaker B:

Everything.

Speaker A:

It's about our 37 years of marriage and our experience.

Speaker A:

I'm Matthew Greger.

Speaker B:

And I'm Nancy Greger.

Speaker B:

And we're your host of We Should.

Speaker A:

Probably Edit this, But we won't.

Speaker A:

And we probably should have edited that.

Speaker A:

So here's our next episode.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Hello.

Speaker A:

Hi, I'm Matthew.

Speaker B:

And I'm Nancy.

Speaker A:

So you said to start, so I'm starting.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So we're on.

Speaker B:

We had an action pack.

Speaker B:

Now we did record a previous episode, but somebody didn't test the sound and so there was no sound.

Speaker A:

The tech guy over here failed.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker B:

So in his primary function.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

But that was okay because we've had an action package last few weeks.

Speaker B:

We went down to Florida.

Speaker B:

First half of Florida was to see my mom and kind of help with a few things.

Speaker A:

And yeah, that was kind of a shock when we pulled in and saw the excavator in the, in the yard and a big trench down there, only to find out that the septic tank, the septic line had collapsed.

Speaker A:

The, the old cast iron had collapsed.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

But she didn't let you know that?

Speaker B:

No, it was a surprise.

Speaker A:

Fortunately, it was reconnected with new PVC and it was all done by the time we got there.

Speaker A:

Otherwise.

Speaker A:

Otherwise it would have been bucket.

Speaker B:

No, I would have said, I'm going to go to the hotel and call me when the water's been connected.

Speaker B:

And do you want to join us?

Speaker B:

We can bring the dog too.

Speaker B:

But so that was interesting.

Speaker B:

Just even from the get go of showing up, that was interesting.

Speaker B:

But compared to a lot of other people, we had a great flight.

Speaker B:

I mean, it was jam packed, but it was smooth.

Speaker A:

Yeah, but flying these days just, it's just not a luxury item anymore.

Speaker A:

I mean, it's, it's, it's a challenge.

Speaker A:

But if you get a good crew, we found a pretty good set.

Speaker A:

If we can't get the more space, we're in the emergency exit road.

Speaker B:

Correct.

Speaker B:

Which ended up this time first going down was not that bad because we had the entire flight crew, all from the previous flight.

Speaker B:

From the previous flight.

Speaker B:

They literally took everything up, which made me laugh because they looked at us and said, if there's an emergency, are you willing to, you know, provide service?

Speaker B:

And I looked around, I said, you have your entire crew here.

Speaker B:

That should be, that should be more than enough.

Speaker B:

But you know, as, as protocol, you had to say yes, yeah, that you're willing to do it.

Speaker B:

But I, I mean, overall it was pretty good.

Speaker B:

Look, short flights going on to Florida, it just is what it is.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Longer flights.

Speaker B:

And by longer, I mean anything, four hours or more.

Speaker B:

I do.

Speaker B:

We do our normal thing.

Speaker B:

If we're not going to be able to, to do first class, we buy all three rows, we buy all the seats in the row.

Speaker B:

People thought I was really kooky until they suddenly realized that buying that middle seat really gives you that extra space that you need.

Speaker B:

And you know, we don't have to sit on top of each other in the middle seat.

Speaker B:

Could be like a dump seat where we put all of our stuff in.

Speaker B:

It's well worth the extra price.

Speaker B:

And I've, I've known a few people that have decided to, to test that theory and buy all three seats.

Speaker B:

And it's, it is a much more comfortable flight.

Speaker B:

You don't feel overwhelmed.

Speaker B:

But that was, it was good.

Speaker B:

We got down there, it was hot.

Speaker B:

But that's Florida in July.

Speaker B:

It's hot.

Speaker A:

Well, it just happened to be actually cooler there than it was here in the Northeast.

Speaker A:

We had that really odd fourth of July heat wave and they had apparently a really big lightning lightning storm.

Speaker A:

So, you know, nature put on its own fireworks expedition.

Speaker A:

So a lot of wind and rain too.

Speaker B:

So we were, we lucked out because we were in Florida at the time.

Speaker A:

Yeah, we had a sheriff storms too.

Speaker B:

But the Florida, well, they, they, the.

Speaker A:

Raindrops are about this big around when they hit, when they hit.

Speaker A:

If they hit you, if one drop hits you, you're so.

Speaker A:

You're soaked.

Speaker B:

You're soaked.

Speaker B:

There's no, there's no saving you.

Speaker B:

But, but it was good.

Speaker B:

I mean, we hung out with my mom.

Speaker B:

We did a few things around the house that she needed.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

See, my primary objective of going down there was a tech update for her upgrade for her, I mean, her old PC.

Speaker A:

I think she was running Windows 8.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

If that.

Speaker A:

And just had too many problems with it.

Speaker A:

And so we decided to give her old laptop, your old laptop, which is actually still in pretty good condition.

Speaker A:

But we, we went from a PC to a Mac.

Speaker A:

And for somebody in their 80s, that's a huge challenge.

Speaker B:

Huge.

Speaker A:

Even as simplified as we tried to make it.

Speaker A:

And it's already using an iPhone and an iPad, so he tried to set it up very similar.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker B:

But overall the, the beginning was a little Bit of a transition to.

Speaker B:

To get her into it.

Speaker B:

And then when I left, she did call a couple of times for some.

Speaker A:

I think you still need to do an online session.

Speaker B:

I probably.

Speaker A:

And we have to re.

Speaker A:

Re rearrange the desktop and the start page.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So that it's somewhat easier for her.

Speaker B:

Kind of looks like Adele, but it's.

Speaker A:

Not really a Dell or looks like the iPad.

Speaker A:

One of the two.

Speaker B:

One of the two.

Speaker B:

But in any case.

Speaker B:

So that was good.

Speaker B:

And then we.

Speaker B:

After our four days.

Speaker B:

Because remember, we do four days with any.

Speaker B:

If we're visiting anybody.

Speaker B:

Four days.

Speaker B:

My sons know that four days.

Speaker B:

And that keeps everybody healthy and still loving each other.

Speaker B:

So after the fourth day, we went to St. Augustine, which happens to be one of our potential destinations for retirement.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

And it happened to be the fourth of July weekend.

Speaker A:

So we got there Sunday.

Speaker A:

So it was the end of the Fourth of July weekend.

Speaker A:

But there was still.

Speaker A:

There were still a lot of people and there was still a lot of people that had too much alcohol, I should say, walking around.

Speaker B:

Well, we had.

Speaker B:

Where we were staying, I thought was fine.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

We were on Bolano Beach.

Speaker A:

Yeah, we were right.

Speaker B:

Right on the beach.

Speaker A:

On the ocean.

Speaker B:

Right on the ocean.

Speaker B:

Which was great because my happy place is literally as you can see on the ocean.

Speaker A:

As you can see behind us, this is the sound.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

But still it's on the ocean.

Speaker B:

Yeah, it's on.

Speaker A:

Getting a nice breeze.

Speaker B:

So we had.

Speaker B:

We had a good.

Speaker B:

A good spot.

Speaker B:

The only thing that was missing was the pool boy.

Speaker B:

That would have made.

Speaker B:

Or.

Speaker B:

Or at least vendors on the beach.

Speaker A:

For the looks or the drinks?

Speaker B:

Both.

Speaker B:

They didn't have any vendors on this beach.

Speaker B:

Like, we found it odd.

Speaker B:

There was no bicycle riding.

Speaker B:

I didn't see.

Speaker A:

There were a couple people with bicycles, but there wasn't.

Speaker A:

It's definitely not a new Smyrna or Daytona feel at all.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

Which is actually nice.

Speaker A:

You just have to.

Speaker A:

I never did look up renting bikes either.

Speaker A:

Which would have been.

Speaker A:

Which would have been.

Speaker B:

It would have been interesting because then we would have.

Speaker B:

We could have potentially had done that.

Speaker B:

But in any case, we were too.

Speaker A:

Busy exploring that part of the.

Speaker B:

Of St. Augustine.

Speaker B:

I thought was really nice.

Speaker B:

Not very commercialized for sure.

Speaker B:

Lots of homes and you know.

Speaker A:

But then.

Speaker A:

Then the downtown is very active.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

And.

Speaker A:

And it's very.

Speaker A:

It's like they said, it's one of the original towns.

Speaker A:

And so all the buildings are very small and the streets are really narrow.

Speaker A:

Many of the streets are shut down strictly for pedestrians.

Speaker A:

So if you go, you got to make sure you park in the parking garages or find a spot to park.

Speaker B:

But it's very, very touristy.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

And I'm not sure that's what we really want is a touristy area.

Speaker A:

The, the art scene was pretty good.

Speaker A:

The galleries were.

Speaker B:

The galleries were nice.

Speaker B:

They had some high end galleries and then they had some like local, local stuff from artists that are local.

Speaker B:

But one of the.

Speaker B:

I, I guess for us it was kind of like, it's okay if you have a tourist area close by, because if people come to visit you, it's nice if they could go there.

Speaker B:

And they did have a couple of really nice restaurants in, in the town.

Speaker A:

We happen to eat it.

Speaker A:

One collage.

Speaker B:

Great food.

Speaker A:

Very small.

Speaker B:

Very small.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

But very, very good food.

Speaker B:

But very good food.

Speaker B:

And I think my husband has now accepted the terminology that's been referred to me many a times of being bougie.

Speaker B:

Do you know what bougie is?

Speaker B:

Bougie.

Speaker A:

You want a certain level of comfort.

Speaker A:

Comfort, yes.

Speaker A:

Service style.

Speaker A:

Service.

Speaker A:

The whole thing.

Speaker A:

Bougie.

Speaker A:

Some of it's okay at times not to be, but yeah, okay.

Speaker B:

He accepted the word.

Speaker A:

Well, even, even the massage we got was.

Speaker B:

It was, it was different.

Speaker B:

It was different.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

You know, and here's the thing.

Speaker B:

When you go to certain places, most of the places that we've gone to in the past where we've gotten massages are because we went to that bougie hotel.

Speaker B:

We went to that bougie hotel and they had a spa and they had a spa.

Speaker A:

So we should have chose the hotel spa.

Speaker B:

But you checked ratings and you listen to Claude and if Claude says to you, no, go here, it wasn't bad.

Speaker B:

I didn't say it was bad.

Speaker B:

It just wasn't something we were used to that we've done in the past.

Speaker A:

If she worked my neck anymore, I think I would have come out like this.

Speaker B:

It didn't cost that much.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker B:

Other massages we've had have cost a good deal.

Speaker A:

Yeah, no, they were, they were nice.

Speaker B:

They were nice.

Speaker B:

They were, they were respectful.

Speaker B:

And it was in the old town, but they had parking, which was good.

Speaker B:

But I think overall it gave us an idea because a lot of this is what we're doing is trying to figure out what works for the two of us.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker B:

Where.

Speaker B:

Where do we want to.

Speaker B:

I mean, if I just like living.

Speaker A:

Here when we, when we go, when we go back to like determining the next phase of this, after we see all seven places.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Then we'll come Back around and pick the ones that we actually want to go back again.

Speaker A:

Dig into a little deeper.

Speaker B:

Dig in.

Speaker A:

Like if.

Speaker A:

If this is a place that we dig into, I'm definitely going to book a fishing trip.

Speaker A:

Yes, we would.

Speaker A:

I would look more into the art scene a little bit more.

Speaker A:

They.

Speaker A:

They have a couple of studios and things that we didn't get to.

Speaker A:

So for me, that's what it would be.

Speaker A:

I don't know about.

Speaker A:

For you.

Speaker A:

What would.

Speaker A:

And into more if we were to.

Speaker B:

Go back, really, it's just a relaxation, a place that I'm going to feel very relaxed.

Speaker B:

What are the homes looking like?

Speaker B:

And that really is going to dictate where we're going to end up.

Speaker B:

Because there weren't a lot of condos on that beach.

Speaker B:

They had a few, but there weren't that many.

Speaker A:

But we're also not sure we want to be in a condo.

Speaker B:

Yeah, we're not sure.

Speaker A:

Yeah,.

Speaker B:

Whisper that part.

Speaker B:

Yeah, but I mean, I do, I do.

Speaker A:

I do enjoy this condo right now and this part of my life.

Speaker A:

I mean, I enjoy it from the aspect of lesser responsibilities a lot less and local scene of being able to walk.

Speaker B:

I think that for me is more critical is that even when we went there, it's not really a walking type.

Speaker A:

Of town like St. Augustine.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

You'd have to live.

Speaker A:

You'd have to live too close to the center.

Speaker B:

To the center.

Speaker B:

And that wasn't my cup of tea.

Speaker B:

Like here we have.

Speaker A:

Otherwise we have to get a golf cart.

Speaker A:

I'm not sure.

Speaker A:

I'm not sure.

Speaker A:

A golf cart.

Speaker A:

I'm a golf cart kind of guy.

Speaker B:

But maybe there wasn't like, oh, let's go down the scene, down the.

Speaker B:

The area where there were lots of restaurants.

Speaker B:

There really wasn't.

Speaker B:

Not on Bolano Beach.

Speaker B:

There really wasn't.

Speaker B:

But in any case, this is the part of our lives where we've designated to give ourselves time.

Speaker B:

Just time.

Speaker A:

Time and time to figure things out.

Speaker A:

You know, it's like just walking the beach was great.

Speaker A:

You know, we got up one morning and saw the sunrise.

Speaker B:

Yeah, I'm not a really good morning person, but we did it.

Speaker A:

Are you trying to tell me that you didn't enjoy it?

Speaker B:

I'm.

Speaker A:

You would have rather slept in.

Speaker B:

I would have sat.

Speaker A:

Okay, but we need a.

Speaker A:

We need a good morning walk.

Speaker B:

We needed some form of movement because otherwise you're sitting on a.

Speaker B:

On a beach chair.

Speaker A:

And I got lots of good pictures.

Speaker A:

I mean, we're trying to find something for this one place in our Living room, you know, that we can put out there.

Speaker A:

So it's either going to be something that I've taken or created or it's going to be purchased.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

And we did see some really cool art.

Speaker B:

We did.

Speaker B:

But somebody didn't let me buy the one piece I really liked.

Speaker A:

I didn't.

Speaker B:

And then the other, the other artist that we liked, we have to go to London.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker B:

And I'm trying to convince somebody we could do that.

Speaker B:

It's a weekend.

Speaker B:

We take a Friday and his Monday off, we.

Speaker B:

And we go.

Speaker B:

He's got an exhibit this month.

Speaker B:

Yeah, we can make it happen.

Speaker A:

But I'm not sure I want a New York scene or we want a beach scene.

Speaker B:

New York is who we are.

Speaker A:

I know.

Speaker B:

And no matter where.

Speaker A:

But his stuff is.

Speaker A:

His stuff is amazing.

Speaker B:

Really, really extraordinary pieces.

Speaker B:

Not like, and I trust me, if I could afford one of his originals, that would definitely be on my wall.

Speaker A:

But his prints, his prints are like 40x40 and 40x48, something like that.

Speaker A:

So they're.

Speaker A:

They're reasonable.

Speaker A:

They're almost 4ft squares, so.

Speaker B:

And they're reasonably priced for.

Speaker A:

For what it is for edition.

Speaker B:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker B:

But in any case.

Speaker B:

So who knows, I might convince him to do.

Speaker B:

I said to him I would give up my facial if we.

Speaker B:

To go.

Speaker B:

To go to London for a quick in and out.

Speaker B:

Maybe we might see Big Ben.

Speaker A:

I just don't know if I want to go that distance just to go in and out.

Speaker A:

You know, I'd want to spend a couple more days.

Speaker B:

I don't know if London has a lot to offer that I would be.

Speaker B:

Let me put it this way, it was not on my bucket list of places I would like to go.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker B:

So for me, just going in and out wouldn't really mean anything.

Speaker B:

It would just be like in and out if I.

Speaker B:

If I wanted.

Speaker B:

If it was a destination.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker B:

Like if he was showing and exhibiting in Portugal, I would probably say, yes, let's go.

Speaker B:

Or Italy or Spain.

Speaker A:

That's one thing we're trying to also hone in on is how we travel, how we booked the travel.

Speaker B:

We ventured into a different area because one of our Ultra members.

Speaker A:

Yeah, he's.

Speaker B:

He's part of the dream trips.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker A:

And so he's been around one of the very first people that ever joined and then they're relaunching it and.

Speaker B:

And you mean joined Ultra?

Speaker A:

No, joined.

Speaker A:

Joined the dreamtrips many years ago.

Speaker B:

Many, many years ago.

Speaker A:

So he's the something.

Speaker A:

Something with growth and vision.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

For It.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

But it's got some really good potential.

Speaker A:

So we're.

Speaker B:

We're going to test it out.

Speaker A:

Yeah, we're going to test the waters and.

Speaker B:

Test the waters and see what it could bring us.

Speaker B:

Even if it finds us hotels that are bougie but affordable.

Speaker B:

But affordable.

Speaker B:

That would be great.

Speaker A:

And what I've seen so far, there's some pretty.

Speaker A:

Pretty cool deals.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker B:

So we'll.

Speaker B:

We're going to play that one out.

Speaker B:

So we just joined that, so hopefully it'll help us plan the trip to Portugal, which is really the first big European trip we want to take this year.

Speaker B:

So that would probably almost be the end of our trips there.

Speaker B:

Might.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I've got to go back and see my parents.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

Go down.

Speaker A:

That would have to fit it in into August.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And then you got to worry about our last child who's turning 30.

Speaker A:

30.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Well, he hasn't.

Speaker A:

He hasn't told me what he wants to do.

Speaker A:

He still has.

Speaker B:

Honestly, I don't think he will tell you.

Speaker B:

I think he.

Speaker A:

I guess I'm just gonna have to say, hey, no, we're doing this.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker B:

He's not very decisive when it comes to that kind of stuff.

Speaker B:

I don't know why his brother and his sister are.

Speaker B:

I.

Speaker B:

We offered suggestions and they came, and my oldest didn't even suggest.

Speaker B:

He said, this is what I want.

Speaker A:

Noah.

Speaker A:

Noah's either one of one way or the other.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

He doesn't really want to do anything locally or.

Speaker A:

It's really too grandeur.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

That.

Speaker A:

It's just like, okay, this isn't gonna happen.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Like, he wants to go to Scotland and play golf, you know, with.

Speaker A:

With him and his friend.

Speaker B:

And I said, no, no, you can't go to some place that I want to go to.

Speaker B:

That's not it.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

Yeah, so that would.

Speaker B:

That was.

Speaker B:

We still have to figure that out, though, because I don't.

Speaker B:

He's the last one, and I don't want to jip him out of an event or doing something special like we did with his other two siblings, just because he's indecisive.

Speaker B:

So we need to be decisive and say if he gives us the weekend.

Speaker A:

Well, but.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

But it's supposed to be me and him.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker B:

Give you the day.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And go for it.

Speaker B:

Give you the day.

Speaker A:

And I've got some ideas.

Speaker A:

I'll talk to you later about it.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker B:

But in any case.

Speaker B:

So that's.

Speaker B:

It's been.

Speaker B:

It's been a super Busy couple of weeks since.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Do you remember what.

Speaker A:

What our.

Speaker A:

What our silent version was about?

Speaker B:

No.

Speaker A:

What we talked about?

Speaker B:

Nope.

Speaker A:

Nope.

Speaker A:

And I can't go back and listen to it either, so I have no.

Speaker B:

No clue as to what it was that we were discussing at that time.

Speaker A:

Yeah, I mean, we've.

Speaker A:

Let's see.

Speaker A:

So we did have.

Speaker A:

We also had a gender reveal party.

Speaker A:

I don't think that was been mentioned since we were last on.

Speaker A:

No, it wasn't.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

So, I mean, Noah's having a baby girl, which is exciting.

Speaker A:

That's number five now for us.

Speaker A:

The.

Speaker A:

The fifth grandchild.

Speaker A:

The first for.

Speaker A:

That means I have four girls and the first for them and.

Speaker A:

And.

Speaker A:

And her mom and dad especially.

Speaker A:

That's number one.

Speaker A:

So they're.

Speaker A:

They're like really excited.

Speaker B:

They're.

Speaker A:

I mean, we're excited because.

Speaker A:

Because.

Speaker A:

Because we'll have a grandchild right here in the same.

Speaker B:

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

That when I, you know that there's a baby smell, and when you get that baby smell, you're like.

Speaker A:

Yeah, you're waiting.

Speaker A:

You're waiting to.

Speaker A:

To be able to see Fei.

Speaker A:

Shawn's baby.

Speaker A:

My.

Speaker B:

Oh, my goodness, I can't wait.

Speaker A:

My systems developer, that's the first baby.

Speaker B:

They can't wait until probably October.

Speaker A:

No, you have to wait till vaccinations are done.

Speaker A:

That's what he said.

Speaker A:

Oh, so he had.

Speaker B:

That could be almost a year.

Speaker A:

No, no, no.

Speaker A:

I mean, the main.

Speaker A:

The.

Speaker A:

The core ones, which are coming up really soon.

Speaker A:

Okay, so then.

Speaker A:

Then he'll go out and venture out a little bit.

Speaker A:

You know, it's the baby.

Speaker A:

I know, but baby number one, boy,.

Speaker B:

There are a lot of rules.

Speaker A:

Yes, there's.

Speaker A:

There's a lot of rules when you have the first one that you're not sure what you're doing.

Speaker A:

Number one.

Speaker A:

Number two is you're afraid.

Speaker A:

I think you're really just afraid to do certain things.

Speaker A:

Or should I do this?

Speaker A:

Should I not?

Speaker A:

Yeah, Benjamin has.

Speaker B:

Benjamin has some quirky things because he was.

Speaker B:

He was.

Speaker B:

He was sensing his mother's levels of anxieties.

Speaker B:

Like.

Speaker B:

No, no, no, no, no, don't touch that.

Speaker B:

No, no, no.

Speaker A:

And that's.

Speaker A:

And that's why Noah's completely the opposite and just flying by the seat of his pants.

Speaker A:

Because.

Speaker A:

Because by the time number three came.

Speaker B:

Out, it was like, my God, you made it.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Can you imagine?

Speaker A:

Can you imagine what Millie's gonna be like?

Speaker B:

Hey, listen, Noah had a lot of challenges, but a lot of it was self induced challenges as well.

Speaker B:

I mean, he was A preemie.

Speaker B:

He was very early.

Speaker B:

He was really, really tiny.

Speaker B:

He still had an obsessive mother when he was really small.

Speaker B:

But then he.

Speaker B:

He also had an older sister, and by I mean older.

Speaker B:

She's only 14 months older, but she.

Speaker A:

They used to share the bottle.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

That was always like, please don't give him your juice because he's not ready for that.

Speaker B:

But those were his challenges.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

The two of them were very funny together.

Speaker B:

Very.

Speaker A:

That.

Speaker B:

Like two peas in a pod, man.

Speaker A:

Yeah, two peas in a pot.

Speaker B:

But in any case.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

Yeah, so we'll.

Speaker B:

We'll see.

Speaker B:

But it is exciting with the next baby coming.

Speaker B:

It's always good.

Speaker B:

It's Christmas time, too.

Speaker B:

It's Christmas time.

Speaker A:

It'll be a gift.

Speaker A:

That'll be a good gift.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

But it.

Speaker B:

It'll be very tentative.

Speaker B:

I think there might be a little bit more, you know, protection around that little person.

Speaker A:

Yep.

Speaker B:

But that was.

Speaker B:

That was one of the things that happened.

Speaker B:

So big baby reveal of what's coming up next.

Speaker B:

What else?

Speaker A:

Well, we had Ultra in New York City.

Speaker B:

No, I think we don't talk too much.

Speaker A:

We haven't.

Speaker A:

It's been.

Speaker A:

It's been a month or two with this.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I think that's might have been what we talked about.

Speaker A:

I'd have to check.

Speaker A:

We might be repeating ourselves.

Speaker A:

See, when you get to certain age, sometimes you forget.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

You're not sure whether you're repeating or the.

Speaker A:

You told the story, who you told the story to or what.

Speaker B:

So that might be more.

Speaker B:

We've told the story.

Speaker B:

We just don't know if we've ever recorded the story.

Speaker B:

But we have told the story.

Speaker B:

We definitely have told the story.

Speaker B:

But that was.

Speaker B:

That was fun.

Speaker B:

You know, I think we.

Speaker B:

We.

Speaker B:

We should have done a few things a little differently when we went, like,.

Speaker A:

Not stay in Times Square.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

That's.

Speaker A:

That's the first thing we should not have done.

Speaker B:

Picked a different destination spot.

Speaker A:

The city is just so dirty right now.

Speaker A:

I don't know why.

Speaker A:

It's just different.

Speaker A:

You know, they.

Speaker A:

They don't.

Speaker A:

They used to have people that actually would clean up the.

Speaker A:

The trash in New York in Times Square area.

Speaker A:

They had.

Speaker A:

They had, like, sweeper guys that were coming around.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And doing that.

Speaker A:

And I don't know, I just.

Speaker A:

I just felt grimy.

Speaker B:

It.

Speaker B:

It was.

Speaker B:

And it was hot, too.

Speaker A:

And there was just so many people.

Speaker B:

There were a lot of.

Speaker A:

And it really.

Speaker A:

What.

Speaker A:

The thing that I took away with it the most is we were about 250 of us in Ultra.

Speaker A:

And, and we're about personal development, personal growth, about making a difference in this world.

Speaker A:

And you really realize how small we are.

Speaker A:

When you're in an environment like that and you, you step outside the time centers that we were at and you're just all these people from all over and you realize you're a pebble.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And you realize how much you need.

Speaker B:

To work on, summon your best.

Speaker A:

That and how much, how much we need to really, you know, expand what we're doing.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

You know, I agree there was, there was a lot there.

Speaker B:

But sometimes what you give out is what you get back in as well.

Speaker B:

And so if you have really good vibes and you have a really good, like, Persona about you, I think people feed off of that energy and they, they'll match it, you know, they'll, they'll match that level of energy.

Speaker B:

But you gotta, you've gotta always be on your game.

Speaker A:

Yeah, that's really, that's really hard to bring the joy all the time.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Especially depending on your past and how you were and your habits that have been ingrained.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

In you for 50, 60 years.

Speaker A:

You know, when you're trying to shift, you still tend to fall back.

Speaker B:

But here's, here's the thing.

Speaker B:

You, It's a learning experience.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker B:

Transitioning from, from one behavior to a different behavior.

Speaker B:

It's a process and it takes time and you got to give yourself time.

Speaker B:

Remember that old lesson that was told to me when, when the kids were little is if you're looking to change a behavior, you take the number of years that you've been alive and that's how many months it's going to take for you to change that behavior.

Speaker A:

Yep.

Speaker B:

So it's going to take five years for me to change behavior.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Well, you're on year four.

Speaker B:

It takes time.

Speaker B:

You really have to be very conscious about and you have to be diligent about it.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker B:

It's no different than health wise and trying to do things more healthy.

Speaker A:

Let's not talk about health.

Speaker A:

That's, that's a real, that's a real struggle right now for me anyways.

Speaker A:

I mean, it's, I think it's a.

Speaker B:

Struggle because we're also, we're now 40.

Speaker A:

Well, no, that's what I mean.

Speaker B:

40 Would be.

Speaker B:

I didn't say 30.

Speaker B:

I said 40.

Speaker A:

Things that used to be easy to do.

Speaker A:

Meaning, like for me, I could just change the way I eat and I could drop a few pounds.

Speaker A:

It doesn't matter what I change right now.

Speaker A:

They just don't Move and how much exercise I, I put in place.

Speaker B:

It's hard.

Speaker B:

Yeah, it's just hard.

Speaker B:

But I think a lot of that is your body chemistry.

Speaker B:

And you seem to resist the part that you are not a 40 year old.

Speaker A:

No, I'm not resisting it anymore.

Speaker A:

I'm just trying to figure out what to do about it.

Speaker A:

Well, so I understand.

Speaker A:

I know what I need to do and I'm working on that.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Okay, There you go.

Speaker A:

I'm just trying to determine what those steps are.

Speaker A:

I don't know and I don't know if I want the shot, you know, or, or any.

Speaker A:

I mean, I feel like I need a boost, that's for sure.

Speaker B:

I don't know if you can go on that and then get to where you want to be and then take yourself off of it.

Speaker A:

So that's where.

Speaker A:

That's where.

Speaker A:

That's where I'd be disappointed.

Speaker B:

You.

Speaker B:

There's no harm in Fallon trying because even taking that shot, you shouldn't be losing weight quickly.

Speaker B:

No, you should be losing weight grass consistently and consistently, not like drop £40 in a month.

Speaker B:

Yeah, you don't want that because that's not sustainable at all.

Speaker B:

So you have to figure out what your balance is.

Speaker B:

And usually they say if you can do £2amonth, that's a good consistent way of going at it.

Speaker B:

Two pounds.

Speaker B:

And if you could do that consistently, you'll get to where you need to be without necessarily making yourself feel as though you're not successful and you're not getting where you need to get.

Speaker B:

I think you just need to accept the expectations of being slow and steady versus super fast.

Speaker B:

You don't want.

Speaker A:

Well, I mean, we are still riding our bike in the morning.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Or be it that we need to do more.

Speaker A:

You'll stop injuring yourself.

Speaker A:

That was one thing.

Speaker B:

I can injure myself, but I tend to pick myself up pretty quick.

Speaker A:

So you lost your thumbnail.

Speaker B:

I did.

Speaker A:

I lost my thumbnail and fell off the bike.

Speaker B:

I tipped over the bike.

Speaker B:

I didn't.

Speaker B:

The bike and I went to the side.

Speaker A:

You were waiting for me riding in circles in the driveway and just.

Speaker A:

And just miscalculated the turn.

Speaker A:

The turn and then just fell on the gulch and block and.

Speaker B:

No, my body fell on the glass.

Speaker B:

My fingers.

Speaker B:

The grass.

Speaker A:

Yeah, not the glass, the grass.

Speaker B:

Yeah, my finger hit the Belgian block.

Speaker A:

Yeah, your thumb popped that nail right on off then.

Speaker A:

Then we got to visit Norwalk's finest resort, their, er, resort, because that's the only place it was open at 7.

Speaker B:

At 7.

Speaker B:

Am.

Speaker B:

Which is funny because I'm like, where's urgent care?

Speaker B:

But it probably wouldn't have made much of a difference anyway.

Speaker B:

Urgent care might have sent me to the emergency room, but it was.

Speaker B:

It was.

Speaker A:

So now it's a process of regrowing a nail, just going to take several months.

Speaker A:

But there's a lot to be thankful for this summer.

Speaker B:

I didn't break my thumb then.

Speaker A:

That's one thing to be thankful for.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker B:

I could have broken it.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So we went to.

Speaker A:

We went to Mystic.

Speaker B:

We went to mystic.

Speaker A:

Toward mystic, which.

Speaker B:

We went to mystic for one purpose and that was to go to the strawberry festival.

Speaker A:

You would think a strawberry festival, you would have strawberries.

Speaker A:

One vendor had fresh strawberries.

Speaker A:

One vendor had a strawberry dessert.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Strawberry shortcake with ice cream.

Speaker A:

And the other 50 plus.

Speaker A:

It wasn't nothing.

Speaker A:

It was like a carnival.

Speaker B:

It was exhibit.

Speaker B:

And what.

Speaker B:

What we learned from that is, is we're not good with a lot of people.

Speaker B:

Like.

Speaker A:

Let's rephrase that.

Speaker A:

Not good with a lot of people that are not bougie.

Speaker B:

That is so wrong.

Speaker A:

I know.

Speaker B:

Say that.

Speaker A:

No, I don't.

Speaker B:

It's just a lot of people.

Speaker A:

A lot of people that are the.

Speaker A:

In the hot, hot setting with vendors that have stuff that we're not interested in.

Speaker B:

Correct.

Speaker A:

It usually brings out different people that also are just feeding on that stuff.

Speaker A:

That's not where.

Speaker A:

That we're not interested in.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

So going there was okay.

Speaker B:

We went to Newport.

Speaker A:

That was nice.

Speaker B:

That was nice.

Speaker B:

But also along the waterline, lots of people.

Speaker B:

And I have this thing.

Speaker B:

If, if you're behind me and I can hear your.

Speaker B:

All your conversation, I'm going to stop, move to the side and let you pick.

Speaker A:

Cliff walk was nice.

Speaker A:

With exception of your thumb was just injured and you were in the brace.

Speaker B:

And I was very conscious about that.

Speaker A:

Cliff walk required some stone hopping.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

And so stone hopping with a thumb and a hand that you're not confident in didn't give you the greatest sense of balance.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker B:

Correct.

Speaker B:

And if I fell, I knew what I was going to do is cover that.

Speaker A:

Cover that end up injuring something else.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker B:

Something else.

Speaker B:

So as.

Speaker B:

As my friend said, when I said to her, we did six miles that day, I was exhausted.

Speaker B:

And she says, yeah, because you were also very conscious of not falling and, and watching your hand at all costs.

Speaker B:

That you exerted a lot of thought.

Speaker B:

Like it wasn't like an easy walk.

Speaker B:

Some spots were easy.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Some.

Speaker B:

But other spots were like the first.

Speaker A:

The first half and then Then it became there was no exit point either, because you were in all these estates where you couldn't get out.

Speaker B:

You couldn't get out.

Speaker A:

You couldn't get out of the trail.

Speaker B:

You were.

Speaker B:

You had to commit.

Speaker B:

And we got to the very.

Speaker B:

Almost the very end.

Speaker A:

We're on the tip.

Speaker A:

Had a little.

Speaker A:

Had about a half mile to go.

Speaker B:

And so I saw this lady sitting down there, and her husband was.

Speaker B:

Was coming back towards her.

Speaker A:

And because.

Speaker A:

Yeah, because he walked with his kids.

Speaker A:

Kids which were older kids, not little kids.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker A:

They decided to move on, keep going.

Speaker B:

And so dad went, mom stayed behind, dad went, and dad come back.

Speaker B:

And I said, so how is it?

Speaker B:

He says, well, there are spots.

Speaker B:

You're gonna sit and scoot.

Speaker B:

I was like, I think I'm gonna miss out on that last little tip.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

To get on over.

Speaker B:

So we ended up going back.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

Well, on that note, we should probably edit this, but we won't.

Speaker A:

So until next time.

Speaker A:

And we will start getting back into a more consistent routine again.

Speaker A:

And we are planning to bring on some guests, so.

Speaker B:

Yeah, I don't know what you keep saying that.

Speaker B:

I don't want to hurt your feelings, but I'm not ready to bring on anything else to know.

Speaker A:

You're not ready to talk?

Speaker A:

No.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Well, that's news to me.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

So until next time, if you guys would dislike us.

Speaker B:

Share, comment, share comment, all those things.

Speaker A:

Even if we.

Speaker A:

You can even tell us.

Speaker A:

You guys shouldn't be so bougie.

Speaker A:

Bye.

Speaker B:

Bye.
