On July 4th, 1776, 56 people gathered in a sweltering Philadelphia hall and signed the Declaration of Independence. Thomas Jefferson wrote that when one people needs to cut political ties with another, they owe the world an explanation. That explanation became one of the most important documents in American history.

Thomas Jefferson wrote it down when in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, to assume among the powers of the earth the separate and equal station to to which the laws of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

This, of course, was our Declaration of Independence, one of the most important and transformative documents ever written, inspiring a nation and generations to come.
