Shownotes
World Dairy Expo is known for cattle, competition, education and the latest in dairy technology. Now, the world of dairy showmanship is also making its way to the big screen.
Cows Come Home: A Competition Like No Other is a feel-good family feature film centered around dairy showmanship, 4-H and a woman finding her way back into the show ring after experiencing heartbreak.
The film is set for a nationwide release in the United States and Canada on October 6 through Amazon.
Filmmakers Katie Uhlmann and Lindsay Middleton say the project grew out of their shared love of agriculture, animals and small-town communities.
Bringing the Dairy World to a Wider Audience
Middleton grew up participating in 4-H dairy, while both women grew up in small towns. Those experiences became an important part of the film's foundation.
For Middleton, 4-H provided much more than an opportunity to show livestock. It taught lessons that stayed with her well beyond the show ring.
“Learn to do by doing” was a motto the women carried with them throughout the filmmaking process.
That philosophy also helped shape the way they approached agriculture in the movie.
Uhlmann and Middleton felt the dairy and farming communities have often been underrepresented—or inaccurately represented—in entertainment media. They wanted to create something that reflected the people they knew growing up.
