The Holy Spirit, The Person

By Tammy Lacock

“But these things I have told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning because I was with you.” (John 16:4, KJV)

In this eye-opening series on the Holy Spirit, Warren begins with Christ's introduction of the Holy Spirit and the role He would serve after the Cross, from the Gospel of John.

He’s never been seen or even really known to be a person, but the Holy Spirit is indeed a person. He is the third person of the Holy Trinity and so his job is of utmost importance in carrying out God’s plan. He was sent by the Father to teach us ONLY about Jesus, opening our minds and hearts to the revelation that Christ lives in us and to know who He is in us.

John talks about our “soulish” area in the above verse when he speaks of remembering. Just as Christ lives in our spirits, the Holy Spirit lives in our “soulish” area, our minds, wills and emotions, constantly renewing our minds and helping us to remember who we are in Christ and what we are to learn from Scriptures. John saw that God saved us by grace, by no effort of our own, only by believing on Jesus. Our spirits are locked in and saved. But John knew that we also need to be transformed in our “soulish” area. This is the work of the Holy Spirit, to empower us to do the will of God which is to serve and glorify Him in our daily lives by teaching us how to grow in our love affair with Christ in us.
