Entrepreneur Lee Xian Jie is a Singaporean who studied in Tokyo, worked in tourism as a guide in Kyoto, and is now a community builder and entrepreneur in Ryujinmura village, Wakayama - deep in the Kumano mountains, where is he preparing to open his own cafe and guest house.
In this talk, Lee tells us about the old houses he has been renovating for himself and his friends, cutting grass, harvesting Japanese tea on ancient trees around the area, composting, creating bee hives, and creating a cafe which will feature local foods as well as his own signature tea blends. All of Lee's projects provide a service to the local community as it is bringing life back to a dying rural village.
I met Lee at the 2022 Minka Summit where he shared insights about his life and efforts to revive the dwindling community in Ryujinmura where he founded the RYUNOHARA project - 'a
traditional Japanese farmhouse restoration and future farm & farm-to-table cafe.'
