The fifth episode features a bottle of Bärenjäger Honey Liqueur. It's 35% alcohol by volume, 70 proof. Imported from Germany by Niche Importing Co. to the USA. Made in Germany by Schwarze und Schlichte using an original 18th century recipe. Known as Bärenfang in Germany.

Brief Historical Timeline:

  • 15th Century - Teukce and Koneig commercialize the liqueur as bear bait
  • 18th Century - Recipe is refined and Bärenjäger as it's known today is born
  • 2011 - Bottle changes to be all glass, losing the straw basket and strap

Key Cocktails:

This is taken directly from the bottle's hangtag.

Bees Knees:

  • 1 oz. Bärenjäger Honey Liqueur
  • 1 oz. Gin
  • .75 oz. Lemon juice
  • Top with Club Soda

Mix in a Collins glass on ice. Add lemon and mint as garnish.

Also, try as a substitute in any recipe that calls for honey, or pour over pancakes for breakfast!
