Speaker:
a poem by Alex T. Dragonson
Speaker:
As I look out from my familiar couch
Speaker:
Through a new window,
Speaker:
at new trees, in my once and
Speaker:
future hometown I ask myself,
Speaker:
could I have imagined
Speaker:
Six weeks ago, when my mother texted me
Speaker:
While I was waiting for my suitcase, coming not-really-home,
Speaker:
if I had a plan to go back
Speaker:
And before I had my bag,
Speaker:
I had a plan Could I have known,
Speaker:
eight months ago
Speaker:
When I tried and tried to log in at my job
Speaker:
and found out from a teammate's text
Speaker:
that it was my job no longer
Speaker:
Could I have foreseen,
Speaker:
two years ago When I boarded that
Speaker:
fateful flight to Follow my finances away
Speaker:
From everything I loved,
Speaker:
and swore I would return
Speaker:
that I would return,
Speaker:
and could, with no regret?
Speaker:
I have been so long in coming to this place
Speaker:
And yet no time at all.
