What happens when you grow up learning not to trust what you see, feel, or know?

In this episode of the Adult Child of Dysfunction Podcast, I sit down with Chris Wasko, energy healer, spiritual counselor, psychic medium, creator of Spicy Old Souls, and author of An Old Soul's Journey: A Guide to Inner Child Healing and Conscious Evolution.

Chris shares her experience growing up with narcissistic and abusive parents and eventually making the incredibly difficult decision to walk away. She describes how that decision began a healing journey that she believes also opened intuitive and spiritual abilities that trauma had previously muted.

We explore something so many adult children understand: when you're repeatedly taught that your perceptions are wrong, you eventually stop trusting yourself. We talk about intuition, trauma, nervous system patterns, boundaries, self-love, family estrangement, and what Chris describes as the energetic weight we can continue carrying long after an experience has ended.

Chris also shares the importance of releasing the expectation that our parents will someday become the people we needed them to be—and learning to give ourselves the love and acceptance we spent years seeking from others.

And one of my favorite reminders from this conversation:

Healing can happen in micro movements.

You don't have to change everything overnight. Small shifts in awareness, movement, breath, and self-compassion can begin interrupting old patterns and bringing you back to yourself.

Whether you identify as an old soul, are curious about energy healing, or simply want to understand why childhood trauma can make trusting yourself so difficult, this conversation offers a different perspective on healing and reconnecting with yourself.

Speaker:

hello everybody, and welcome

back to another episode of

2

:

Adult Child of Dysfunction.

3

:

Today we have with us a special guest.

4

:

We have Chris Wasco.

5

:

She is an energy healer, spiritual

counselor, and psychic medium

6

:

who empowers old souls and

survivors of narcissistic abuse.

7

:

She is the creator of Spicy Old Souls,

a program designed for healing both

8

:

human and soul levels of trauma.

9

:

Chris is also the author of An Old

Soul's Journey: A Guide to Inner

10

:

Child Healing and Conscious Evolution.

11

:

Welcome, Chris.

12

:

Thank you so much, Tammy.

13

:

Yeah, I love that introduction, too,

because I love the old soul thing, and

14

:

it's funny how some people, like my

son is 22 now, but he was kinda one of

15

:

those kids that was like 6 going on 50.

16

:

Yeah.

17

:

And that was a, a saying

that we used to always say.

18

:

I'm like, "Oh, you have to excuse him.

19

:

He's an old soul."

20

:

It was like he had this deep, dark

wisdom that nobody else seemed to

21

:

have around him, so I love that,

that you use that Old Soul's Journey.

22

:

- Yeah.

23

:

That's the best description, too

24

:

it, yeah, and some people just do.

25

:

Some people have that, I don't know.

26

:

Yeah.

27

:

It's a different aura about them.

28

:

Exactly.

29

:

So talk about how you got into that work.

30

:

For myself, I always

identified as an old soul.

31

:

I was even told a lot as a kid.

32

:

Usually when, like in your son's

example, you just know, and so

33

:

many people start telling you.

34

:

So it's just something that I guess

I just really identified with a lot.

35

:

- My journey just evolved in probably

the most chaotic way because , I

36

:

had a very different background

than what I'm doing right now.

37

:

I was in business.

38

:

I was working in New York.

39

:

I had a very what one

might call a muggle life.

40

:

I one day made the most difficult

decision of my life to cut

41

:

off my narcissistic parents.

42

:

They are both abusive in their own way

physical as well as emotional, and that

43

:

abuse was starting to affect my children.

44

:

My father hit my first child-

Ooh … and that should have been my

45

:

walk away I'm done, I'm not doing this.

46

:

But it actually took time after that

because anyone who's in an abusive

47

:

relationship knows how - difficult

it is to walk away, and especially

48

:

as your parents, you don't wanna

break ties with the people who've

49

:

essentially brought you into this world.

50

:

I certainly didn't.

51

:

And that was actually the first time my

dad ever apologized to me, and if anyone

52

:

knows narcissists, they do not apologize.

53

:

Oh, they do not.

54

:

So to have gotten that, I was like, "Okay,

maybe he might do better and be better.

55

:

I'm actually getting an apology."

56

:

So it was another eight years

until I officially walked away.

57

:

Just the cycle continued.

58

:

We never left him alone with

any of my children ever again.

59

:

, At that point, he threatened my

husband, and that was, I was, "I'm done.

60

:

I'm not doing this anymore."

61

:

In any kind of abusive situations, we

always think in theory we're gonna leave

62

:

and we're gonna feel this feeling of

peace or freedom or whatever we think.

63

:

But no, your body is hardwired

to whatever that chaos was.

64

:

So I was terrified.

65

:

I didn't know what my parents might do.

66

:

My mother is extremely vindictive,

so I was definitely in this state

67

:

of, fight, fright, fear, and flight.

68

:

So a lot of different Fs

on the, the trauma scale.

69

:

But I knew I needed to heal.

70

:

So my healing journey, which is

why it's so surreal, it opened

71

:

up - all my spiritual abilities.

72

:

I didn't know I could

see people in spirit.

73

:

I didn't know I could

read the chakra system.

74

:

I wouldn't even call myself psychic.

75

:

I would have maybe said I was,

like, an intuitive empath.

76

:

But what I learned is all of my

trauma muted these abilities.

77

:

So my life changed for the better,

all because I made the most

78

:

challenging decision of my life.

79

:

And for the people out there

listening, it's a decision that

80

:

so many people have to make.

81

:

And I'm going back to where you said,

"My father apologized," and narcissists

82

:

don't apologize, and it's like,

okay, so but narcissists manipulate.

83

:

So … was it really a real apology?

84

:

That's would've been my first thought.

85

:

My mother was the same way, and I'm like,

if she had ever apologized to me, I'd

86

:

be like, "Oh, yeah, that's backhanded.

87

:

There's something coming."

88

:

Something is behind that.

89

:

It's a manipulation tactic.

90

:

That's how I would've seen it.

91

:

But no fault of any of ours, because

if you grew up like that, , again,

92

:

you want to trust the parents.

93

:

You want to believe that your parents,

like you said, the people that brought you

94

:

into the world are the people that go, are

going to protect you and have your back.

95

:

Exactly.

96

:

So but I love that.

97

:

I love that you got into that.

98

:

And so often you made such a good point,

too, and I talk about that a lot, is

99

:

when you grow up in that kind of trauma,

and just any really trauma, and you

100

:

forget that you actually have intuition.

101

:

I feel like we are all-knowing.

102

:

We are born all-knowing.

103

:

Yes.

104

:

And then as we explore that as children,

if it's stifled or violated in any

105

:

way, you stop trusting yourself.

106

:

Exactly.

107

:

And so those little things are

constantly spinning in your

108

:

head, but you're like, "Oh no.

109

:

That can't be right.

110

:

I can't be right.

111

:

I must be wrong."

112

:

… So many people I've talked to where

it's really opened up this spiritual

113

:

journey, and I love to see that.

114

:

So when you talk about

trauma energy, what is that?

115

:

Tell the audience.

116

:

Trauma energy reveals itself

in so many different ways.

117

:

If I see it, it'll be

blurred, it'll be distorted.

118

:

It might show some fragments or fractures.

119

:

It will really depend on what the

person's energy body is revealing.

120

:

If I feel it, it'll

reveal itself in weight.

121

:

So the heavier it feels, the more

trauma that has gone on in that

122

:

person's body, because it's literally

being carried by them, and it's heavy.

123

:

So trauma energy piles up, That,

those are the more frequent ways I

124

:

experience it when I do reads on people.

125

:

Sometimes I might hear things.

126

:

I might hear verbal abuse, for example.

127

:

I almost feel like I- I'm just

getting yelled at over and over.

128

:

But I guess in my own experience, because

I had all of this, I understand what it

129

:

looks like, it feels like, it sounds like.

130

:

So when I'm doing these reads,

it's easier for me to interpret.

131

:

So in my experience, I could thank

my parents for the upbringing I have,

132

:

'cause it helped me do what I do now.

133

:

And I'm also separate from it,

where I'm not taking it on.

134

:

It's not personal.

135

:

It's not even something I'm

taking on energetically.

136

:

I'm just witnessing in a client,

and I'm sharing with them.

137

:

Because more often than not, people

don't know what they're carrying or

138

:

how they're carrying it, so my just

bringing it to their attention, sometimes

139

:

the awareness alone is enough to help

them heal it, because they might be

140

:

holding onto something that they don't

need to hold onto anymore, that it has

141

:

served as a protective mechanism, so

it probably did serve them at one time.

142

:

But awareness is always that first

level, so I work to bring that awareness.

143

:

What am I seeing?

144

:

What am I hearing?

145

:

What am I feeling?

146

:

And sharing it with them, and showing

them where it is in the body, and

147

:

where I feel it's connected to.

148

:

So I won't always get an exact

story, but I'll feel a mother energy

149

:

or a father energy or sometimes an

experience, like I feel like I'm

150

:

in school, I feel like I'm at work.

151

:

It's just something going on in that

e- experience, so it just, again,

152

:

depends on what story the body

wants to share, because the body

153

:

always reveals itself in layers.

154

:

The first layer is always that way

of waving "Hi, I need attention.

155

:

I'm here.

156

:

I'm ready to be seen."

157

:

And then as you uncover those layers,

other ones start to come to the surface.

158

:

So I'm always very

respectful because they're…

159

:

the body has energetic boundaries as

well, so there are times people get a

160

:

little scared, "What is she gonna see?"

161

:

And I might see a barrier and

I'll say, "Hey I'm noticing

162

:

something here that's very guarded.

163

:

I'm not gonna go beyond it."

164

:

Because I've…

165

:

I also deal with people that deal

with a lot of trauma, as far as sexual

166

:

abuse and really traumatic experiences

that they don't want to relive.

167

:

So I'm always very respectful of that.

168

:

So the body will only reveal what

it feels safe for you to reveal.

169

:

I was gonna ask that because I have,

I've dealt with a couple people that do

170

:

Akashic records and things like that-

where they're literally reading past

171

:

lives, and they're opening this book.

172

:

And, I had the woman on my podcast,

and she literally said "Okay,

173

:

I knew, I saw that in this past

lifetime, this person may have

174

:

been beheaded," or whatever it was.

175

:

And I'm not going to bring that out.

176

:

I'm not gonna traumatize someone.

177

:

So there is a fine line.

178

:

And I mention that because people that

are curious about going to someone

179

:

like you, that is an energy healer

and a spiritual counselor there is

180

:

that kind of trepidation, as far

as can I trust whatever's going on?

181

:

It's the same thing I always

thought it was fascinating.

182

:

I wanna go to a psychic.

183

:

I want them to tell me, like, why?

184

:

Why am I like this?

185

:

Or what is going to happen in the future?

186

:

That always fascinated

me, it never scared me.

187

:

But at the same time, I can see

where sitting down with you,

188

:

and you going, "Okay, there's

something deep and dark here."

189

:

Yeah, it's vulnerable.

190

:

Nobody wants to hear that.

191

:

Vulnerable.

192

:

That puts you in a very

vulnerable p- place.

193

:

So for the people listening, rest

assured, this is not to trigger

194

:

anybody or anything like that.

195

:

But that if you go to someone, and it

is a professional, they're going to be

196

:

gentle and compassionate and understand

that this is not to read your mind and

197

:

throw every, all this stuff out there.

198

:

But you deal with mostly, when

you say old souls, spicy old

199

:

souls what is that program?

200

:

Spicy Old Souls is a program I developed

to help people with their trauma

201

:

energy, because we carry a lot…

202

:

Old souls carry a lot of trauma

in their current lifetime, because

203

:

I always say old souls take on

the most challenging lessons.

204

:

When you have an old soul, if you

are an old soul, you sign up for

205

:

I call it the advanced courses.

206

:

You've done the easy, so you're here

to really take on the very traumatic,

207

:

emotional upheaval kind of lessons.

208

:

So as wonderful as that sounds on

a soul level, on a human level,

209

:

we just look at that absolutely

sucks, and we can carry that trauma

210

:

energy, we can carry that weight,

that heaviness that I talked about.

211

:

So this program helps you release

a lot of that, and really allow

212

:

you to understand your own energy.

213

:

Because the more you understand

your own energy, the more you can

214

:

work with it to heal it, and to help

yourself evolve however you want to

215

:

in this lifetime, and even beyond.

216

:

But also, any kind of healing

you do now sends ripples into

217

:

all of your lives, because we're

existing all at the same time.

218

:

So those ripples do something.

219

:

So developing this program, I

was absolutely called to do it…

220

:

I didn't wake up one day

like, "I have to do this."

221

:

I was just one day doing a

chore, and it just came to me,

222

:

"You're gonna create a program."

223

:

And I said, "Okay."

224

:

So it evolved over time.

225

:

I'm really happy with how it's come

together and how it helps people, because

226

:

the reason it's called Spicy Old Souls is

'cause the acronym for it is SOS, because

227

:

old souls often need help, but so many

of us are so bad about asking for it.

228

:

We've become so programmed to just

do it ourselves, to figure it out.

229

:

So this program is an independent program.

230

:

You don't have to go to someone.

231

:

It's, "Hey, here are some tools.

232

:

Here's how to work with this," and

allow yourself to relieve yourself

233

:

of some of that trauma energy so that

you don't have to carry that burden

234

:

anymore, 'cause you're not meant to.

235

:

No.

236

:

Now, how would you know if,

let's say, my son is an old soul.

237

:

. Like I said, he was 5 going on 50.

238

:

He just had this wisdom about him.

239

:

How would people know to question

"Hey, maybe I am an old soul.

240

:

Maybe I am reliving those things"?

241

:

'Cause I remember one time someone

on my podcast said, "You're put

242

:

on this earth to do something.

243

:

You have a mission, or something

to learn- Yes … or something

244

:

to teach, or whatever it is.

245

:

And until you do it and get it right,

you're gonna keep coming back over

246

:

and over again, so you might as

well get it right the first time."

247

:

I remember when they told me that so

changed the way I kinda looked at things.

248

:

Is that what you're kinda talking about?

249

:

I would agree with that because

it is about intention, right?

250

:

The more intentional we are towards

this life and what we're living in our

251

:

experience, because we're meant to be

creators, we're meant to experience life,

252

:

the more we do that, the more we connect

with our path, our purpose our journey.

253

:

- I do believe, yes, we all

have a reason to be here.

254

:

Sometimes I feel we get so

mixed up in what that is.

255

:

We live in a very capitalistic

society, so often we tie it

256

:

to money and financial gain.

257

:

But that is not how

the soul often evolves.

258

:

Doesn't mean it can't, but what

if you're just meant to learn with

259

:

exactly the circumstances you're

in to create circumstances around

260

:

it to allow yourself to evolve?

261

:

It's hinting along what it is to

start manifesting- … because we

262

:

are creators of our own reality.

263

:

So the more we connect to that, the

more we understand ourselves, which is

264

:

again, why I like this program so much.

265

:

The more you have control of your

body energy, you understand it, the

266

:

more powerful a manifester you are.

267

:

You literally change your life

because you change your energy.

268

:

And that's power.

269

:

It- but in a beautiful way, not

in a control, narcissistic way

270

:

that our society is based on.

271

:

So that's why I feel it's just

so beautiful to connect to that

272

:

because it's very soul-centered.

273

:

And how would you suggest to

people if they're like, "Okay, I

274

:

don't even know what my energy is.

275

:

What does that even mean, Chris?"

276

:

… How would you suggest or help

people kinda understand what kind

277

:

of energy they're putting off?

278

:

I do have a quiz.

279

:

I have a quiz on my website.

280

:

It is a free quiz that people could

take, see what comes back at them.

281

:

Do they feel aligned to it?

282

:

So that's one start.

283

:

And when it comes to your own energy,

it's really looking at your life and

284

:

your circumstances, whatever it is.

285

:

Whatever in front of you, that is what

you have brought into your reality.

286

:

That is what your energy has

attracted to, into your reality,

287

:

for better or for worse.

288

:

And you have the ability to change that

or keep it, depending on what you desire.

289

:

And that's really the first way to start.

290

:

When you start looking around,

especially if you're complaining

291

:

about things, you are the only one

that has the ability to change that.

292

:

We always want others to change.

293

:

I absolutely wanted my

parents to be better.

294

:

I wanted to be loved.

295

:

I wanted to be - consoled.

296

:

I wanted to have that genuine

feeling of what it is to be

297

:

loved by a mother and a father.

298

:

But my parents were so damaged,

they didn't have that ability.

299

:

I think they loved to the best of their

ability, but when we are raised in any

300

:

kind of narcissistic system, you can only

love to the level that you've learned.

301

:

And it's hard to learn beyond that.

302

:

So your love is very limited.

303

:

So one of my desires was to

learn unconditional love.

304

:

But in order to have that,

I couldn't expect my parents

305

:

to give it and change that.

306

:

I had to find it.

307

:

I had to find it and give it to myself

first, but first I had to discover it.

308

:

So look at your environment, look at what

you're desiring, and then figure out how

309

:

you discover that within yourself first.

310

:

Because when you start giving

it to yourself, that's when your

311

:

reality starts reflecting back

to you exactly what you wanted.

312

:

Exactly.

313

:

And it's funny that you said that because

my last podcast, we just had a whole

314

:

thing on unconditional love, 'cause

that's where I hit that was my rock bottom

315

:

when I was 26, pregnant, and realized

I don't even know what that means.

316

:

Like, how am I gonna have

this little baby and…

317

:

eh, I don't know what it means.

318

:

I had no clue.

319

:

I had never experienced it, and I'm

like, "I don't know if I can do this."

320

:

It was like that two by four, , it

had to happen because it had to

321

:

catapult me into how do I become

better than my parents were?

322

:

How do I do that?

323

:

And that was a big part of it.

324

:

But I love what you said about the

look at your life right now, and it

325

:

is without a doubt a culmination of

everything that you have done, every

326

:

decision you've made, every choice

you've made, for whatever reason.

327

:

And like you said, the good or the bad.

328

:

And that's a hard thing for some

people because- When you grow up in

329

:

that kind of trauma, especially until

you become violently aware of that

330

:

concept that you just said, you can

tend to live the life of a victim.

331

:

100%.

332

:

I fully agree with that.

333

:

Although I will say this, when you have

grown up in, in a traumatic environment,

334

:

an abusive environment, I believe having

that victim period is important because

335

:

you need to allow yourself that grief.

336

:

You need to allow yourself that

ability to process what you've

337

:

experienced and to be validated for it.

338

:

So I never wanna criticize

anyone that's in that mode.

339

:

I absolutely was in that mode of "I

can't believe my parents did this to me.

340

:

I can't believe my family did this to me."

341

:

But I had to move beyond that.

342

:

I'm not the victim.

343

:

They're not the villains.

344

:

This is the experience I needed,

I signed up for, and I - was

345

:

able to make choices around it.

346

:

And because I did I took my power back

and I changed my life for the better.

347

:

I have never been more happy in my life,

but I've also never realized the kind of

348

:

peace I could have brought into my life.

349

:

I thought that kind of peace could

only exist within that family

350

:

system because it was my family,

and we're understood, oh, you have

351

:

to connect, stay with your family.

352

:

It's your mother.

353

:

How many times I'd hear that.

354

:

But my gosh, breaking away from that,

I have more peace than I've ever had.

355

:

It's amazing.

356

:

It's beautiful.

357

:

I don't miss them.

358

:

I just miss the idea of them.

359

:

It would've been nice, but I'm

not seeking it from them anymore.

360

:

I'm giving them the love from a distance.

361

:

I love you.

362

:

I send you love.

363

:

I wish all the best for you, but I

recognize I love me, too, and I deserve

364

:

the love that I now have in my life.

365

:

Amen.

366

:

And that is a good place to be.

367

:

And I tell people, because there is

that guilt, I don't know how many times

368

:

people would say, "How can you say that?

369

:

That's your mother.

370

:

How can you not love her?"

371

:

"That's your mother.

372

:

How can you say, 'I hate you'?

373

:

That's your mother."

374

:

I'm like, "How can she pimp

me out to her drug dealers?

375

:

That's my mother."

376

:

You know what I mean?

377

:

Exactly.

378

:

I'm like, there is a flip-flop here, and

the people like I s- tell my clients, that

379

:

are having struggles like, "Oh my gosh, my

brother, it's such a toxic relationship."

380

:

I said, "If he wasn't blood,

would he be in your life?"

381

:

Exactly.

382

:

And if the answer is no, then it's okay.

383

:

The people that I consider my family

have no blood ties to me at all.

384

:

Exactly.

385

:

And that's okay.

386

:

And yeah, so you…

387

:

And to feel guilt about that, yes,

you can feel sad about that, that

388

:

you did lose that part like you said.

389

:

You're gonna grieve that loss of

what could've been or should've been

390

:

or blah blah blah, but you can't.

391

:

You can't delve on that

for the rest of your life.

392

:

. You have to take care of

you in the here and now.

393

:

What would you suggest…

394

:

I know I'm kinda talking

all over the place.

395

:

What does healing look

like to you energetically?

396

:

'Cause I love the whole energy thing.

397

:

What does it look like?

398

:

It w- like it comes on in layers,

it releases in layers too.

399

:

So when people are going through a

healing process, I'll feel the shifts.

400

:

I'll sometimes see it,

but most often I feel it.

401

:

You feel different today.

402

:

- When people work with me one-on-one,

they'll usually work with me

403

:

- especially if they've had intense

trauma, usually about a year.

404

:

And it is amazing to see the

transformation from the first

405

:

session to the last session.

406

:

And they're not the same person anymore.

407

:

They're just this better version

of themselves, and a lot of it is

408

:

just that the energy is lighter.

409

:

It's more vibrant.

410

:

I would say vibrancy is the one thing

that really stands out, and it's magnetic.

411

:

And they feel it too.

412

:

.. And really, it's because they've

learned to love themselves.

413

:

Yep.

414

:

They've learned to look at themselves in

a beautiful way a- and not have all that

415

:

heaviness of what was weighing them down.

416

:

And it always looks and feels

different for each person, but that

417

:

feeling of that lightness and that

brightness in them and in their auric

418

:

field is, it's just, it's beautiful.

419

:

And I get very excited about it

because, I always say my job is to

420

:

get you to a point where you don't

feel like you need me anymore.

421

:

Amen.

422

:

And then I feel like I've done something.

423

:

You know- … you want me?

424

:

Sure, and , I'll - happily help,

but where … I've given you the

425

:

tools, and you're now out in the

world just living your best life.

426

:

It can be a session or it can be a year.

427

:

It doesn't matter.

428

:

I feel lighter.

429

:

Yes.

430

:

Because when you walk into me, you have

a backpack of experiences, emotions,

431

:

this full backpack on your back that you

can't see, but it's weighting you down.

432

:

And like you said, every time you release

something, that is an energetic release,

433

:

and you're getting a little lighter.

434

:

I use that for an example, and test it.

435

:

Test it with yourself.

436

:

If you forgive, quote unquote, "forgive"

somebody for wronging you, and then

437

:

they walk into a room and your stomach

clenches, you are still holding onto

438

:

that energy, and it's not gone yet.

439

:

So that's how, you can do body tests.

440

:

I'm sure you do, check your own body.

441

:

Where are you feeling it?

442

:

That is energy.

443

:

Emotion is energy in motion.

444

:

Get it out.

445

:

Do you do a lot of that?

446

:

Exactly.

447

:

The body tells you everything.

448

:

The body tells you everything you need

to know about yourself, your experiences,

449

:

and like you said, just those reactions.

450

:

Those gut reactions are powerful.

451

:

Yep, and that's a lot of, I'm sure a

lot of what you're do- . It's energy.

452

:

We are all energy.

453

:

I actually do a, an energy scan

with my clients as a kind of bring

454

:

them into my world kind of thing

that checks 171,000 different

455

:

frequencies of your energy, checks

your chakras, checks your meridians.

456

:

It checks your kneecap, whatever it is.

457

:

And it just finds those imbalances,

but at the end of the day, it's all

458

:

getting these imbalances to release

themselves however you have to do that.

459

:

With animals, it's shaking that energy.

460

:

That's that nervous energy.

461

:

Yeah.

462

:

They shake.

463

:

With humans, if you need to shake, shake.

464

:

So be it.

465

:

Exactly.

466

:

So how would you suggest to your

clients that they start doing

467

:

these small shifts on their own?

468

:

What would be a couple first

steps you would suggest to them?

469

:

Always look at where you're at,

because - there are people that can't

470

:

get out of bed every day, and then

there are people that are just feeling

471

:

very weighed down - by experience.

472

:

So movement is always helpful.

473

:

If you're at the point you're not getting

out of bed, the little micro movements

474

:

that you do in bed will help you.

475

:

And, m- and maybe one day you're just

sitting up and you're putting your

476

:

feet on the ground, so it's that,

the, how it, you're building on it.

477

:

A lot of things people also do is

recycled thoughts, recycled experiences.

478

:

When you are reliving these past

experiences, you're constantly

479

:

putting yourself in past energy.

480

:

So working to rewrite those or shift

it to something present, and it could

481

:

be just as present as I'm looking at

a dish right now, and it's blue, and

482

:

I'm gonna wash this dish, and start

saying it out loud to distract your

483

:

mind from that old recycled pattern.

484

:

That takes more time, but we

often get so caught up in that,

485

:

especially when we've had trauma.

486

:

We relive the traumatic experiences

because it's the body's way

487

:

of connecting to safety.

488

:

The more I prepare myself for the future

based on the past, the safer I am.

489

:

But it keeps us stuck in that old

traumatic energy, and you're more

490

:

likely to manifest it in the future-

because you're literally recycling

491

:

it over and over in your mind.

492

:

So the universe is saying,

"Oh, you like this.

493

:

We'll give you more of it."

494

:

And it sucks.

495

:

I've absolutely experienced that myself,

but when we get to that where some old

496

:

memory comes up or some trigger comes

up, start writing a different story,

497

:

and make it the story about your day.

498

:

What are you gonna do that day?

499

:

And start saying it out loud.

500

:

"Okay, I'm grabbing my keys right now.

501

:

I'm grabbing my sunglasses.

502

:

I'm walking out the door."

503

:

Just to get that out of your mind,

or you have to do something physical.

504

:

Bounce a ball, jump up and down.

505

:

Spin.

506

:

Spinning is a good one also for chakras,

- clockwise motion, and, not too fast.

507

:

But it just allows the body a reset.

508

:

That's essentially what you are

working on, is the energy of resetting.

509

:

Because the more your body

learns that reset, it doesn't

510

:

go back to that default setting.

511

:

So the reset is the process you're working

on, and ultimately, you'll get to a place

512

:

where you don't have to do it as much.

513

:

Yeah.

514

:

But it makes sense, especially

when you've gone through trauma,

515

:

you go through these spirals.

516

:

Yes.

517

:

One little thought, if you don't

nip it in the bud and replace

518

:

it with something else, like you

said, where does anxiety come from?

519

:

Either a memory from the past or

catastrophizing about the future

520

:

based on a memory from the past.

521

:

So at no point are we in the present.

522

:

So any of those things.

523

:

I love that tip of just

looking at something.

524

:

I do that.

525

:

I'll be like, just stare at something

on your wall and be like interesting."

526

:

Focus on the design on

your paint, whatever it is.

527

:

Just something to grab your

attention back to not that.

528

:

Exactly.

529

:

Exactly.

530

:

Not that.

531

:

Wow, this has been fun.

532

:

This has been super fun, actually.

533

:

… I want you to - reiterate what

you consider an old soul, and who

534

:

might be a good client for you.

535

:

Old souls are often recognizable

through that energy weight.

536

:

They just have this presence.

537

:

You used the word in

relation to your son, wisdom.

538

:

They just have this wisdom connected

to them, and you can't explain why.

539

:

And this isn't always connected to, I, I

will say intelligence, because old souls

540

:

don't always do well academically, because

school and them do not fit very well.

541

:

The structure of a school

environment does not work very

542

:

well for an old soul's energy.

543

:

So if you have that type of child and you

think they're not very wise 'cause they're

544

:

getting Cs and Ds," I'd be like, "Yeah,

that's probably an old soul" because

545

:

they're frustrated with that environment.

546

:

And this is usually on that when you're

working with a child, a teenager.

547

:

Older people, when they get especially

to their 20s and their 30s, they're

548

:

probably exhausted because so much of

that trauma energy has been weighing.

549

:

So if they haven't been able to

face it, work with it, allow any

550

:

of it to release, by the time they

get to the, definitely their 30s

551

:

they're depleted on so many levels.

552

:

So often they'll actually see, especially

women, adrenal fatigue, and adrenal

553

:

fatigue unfortunately can be connected

to so many things, especially motherhood.

554

:

Yeah.

555

:

So it's not always, oh, you're

an old soul, yeah, 'cause

556

:

you have adrenal fatigue.

557

:

But it's just one of those things I see.

558

:

But other things is

just the inner knowing.

559

:

They have this inner f- knowing…

560

:

their ability to read people is uncanny.

561

:

They can read a room like nothing else.

562

:

They'll walk into an environment,

they could tell you if something

563

:

is not good about it or if

something is amazing about it.

564

:

They just understand things without

even knowing fully why they understand

565

:

it, and they also have a deeper sense

of who they are and what they want.

566

:

Maybe not so much what they wanna do,

because that's part of the journey.

567

:

Sometimes they do.

568

:

It really will depend And especially

it depends on how connected t-

569

:

they are to a previous life.

570

:

So when you're seeing a very young

child especially a prodigy or someone

571

:

very connected to, like an instrument

or an experience, you have these kids

572

:

that are obsessed with outer space or

obsessed with history, and no one in

573

:

the house does anything of that nature.

574

:

It's just very unique to that child.

575

:

Those are all old soul hints.

576

:

And I would say more often than not, they

tend to be very challenged or challenging.

577

:

I often say no one challenges a parent

like an old soul child, because it

578

:

is their clearest mirror of really

showing you the things about yourself

579

:

that you may or may not wanna see, and

that could be a little triggering Okay.

580

:

Yeah.

581

:

No, that makes total sense.

582

:

And I'm laughing because I'm thinking

of my son in all these situations.

583

:

I remember we used to pass the plates,

and what's one thing you learned today?

584

:

And I think he was in kindergarten,

and we were passing our plates, and

585

:

what's one thing you learned today?

586

:

And he said, "I learned I

don't really like school."

587

:

Yep.

588

:

And I was laughing.

589

:

And he really didn't.

590

:

He dropped out of college and everything

else, but now he's in the military where

591

:

he is the decision-maker, he is the

critical thinker, he is the guy, and

592

:

he's excelling like you wouldn't believe.

593

:

And- Believe that, though, now- Yeah

594

:

because he's just connected

to him, so he got the…

595

:

it's a freedom.

596

:

It's a sense of freedom.

597

:

Old souls don't do well with constructs.

598

:

That's why school doesn't

work well for them.

599

:

So if anyone has the ab- knows

they have an old soul child, if…

600

:

And if they have the ability to

homeschool I absolutely do recommend that.

601

:

It makes the educational

path a lot easier.

602

:

Not at first, especially if you're

not used to it, but over time,

603

:

because they connect with who they

are, and they just don't have that

604

:

restriction that school often places.

605

:

B- 'Cause school puts us in a box.

606

:

Not everyone belongs in the same box,

but school puts us all in the same box,

607

:

and it's tough for a soul that knows

there's more to them and more to life.

608

:

But they're in this box.

609

:

So, that constriction

affects their body energy.

610

:

That's why a lot of times they come

home and they're in such a bad mood.

611

:

It is very hard for them after a

while to shake that energy, 'cause

612

:

they don't know that a lot of what

they're carrying isn't theirs.

613

:

No, that makes total sense.

614

:

- You probably can't hear

it from where you are.

615

:

We are having a huge storm here, and I'm

watching lightning right by my house.

616

:

Oh, crazy.

617

:

I'm like…

618

:

Yeah, it is crazy right now.

619

:

You can't hear it, can you?

620

:

No.

621

:

I, When you said that, maybe that

little rumble, but no, - Okay.

622

:

No, it's crack, and my dog's barking.

623

:

Oh, that's crazy.

624

:

Yeah.

625

:

Zoom is a wonderful thing, right?

626

:

Yeah, indeed.

627

:

But this has been super fun, but I

love all of the, the conversations

628

:

people have about energy, and I

love when you bring it in with the

629

:

intuition part of it and what you do,

because that is so vitally important.

630

:

And I encourage anybody

to go - take that quiz.

631

:

Just find out.

632

:

You never know.

633

:

So tell people if they wanna take

the quiz, learn more about you, come

634

:

work with you, how do they do that?

635

:

Easiest way to find me is my website,

which is my name, chriswasco.com.

636

:

Okay, perfect.

637

:

And before you leave…

638

:

first of all, thank you

so much for coming on.

639

:

And before you leave, can you give the

listeners some words of advice or words

640

:

of wisdom or just something kind of

tangible they can take with them today

641

:

to make their day a little brighter?

642

:

Yeah, I often tell people that

energy heals in micro movements.

643

:

We often, especially in a very fast-paced

society, want to heal yesterday, and that

644

:

causes what I call a rubber band effect.

645

:

You rush something, but you snap

back into those old patterns.

646

:

So when we want to make energetic

changes that have the ability to

647

:

last for long-term success, it's the

smaller things you do each day to

648

:

allow for those changes to stick.

649

:

And doing that also honors your

body to accept it, to allow it to

650

:

integrate, and to allow it to accept

this version of you're trying to be.

651

:

But a lot of that is about having patience

for yourself, and sometimes we get

652

:

really frustrated with that part of the

journey, 'cause we just wanna feel better.

653

:

And I completely get it, but you didn't…

654

:

it didn't happen overnight, so

to switch it to where you want

655

:

that's gonna take a little time

but it also takes a lot of love.

656

:

So that patience you have your, for

yourself, the more you have, you realize

657

:

those are those little bits of love

you continue to give yourself each day.

658

:

I love that.

659

:

I absolutely love that.

660

:

And I'm picturing the rubber

band, and it's so true.

661

:

Just- and not only that, when

you think about that too,

662

:

what happens to a rubber band?

663

:

Eventually it's- Yeah … doesn't come

back to its- Exactly … original shape.

664

:

It comes back to a frayed, falling apart.

665

:

It's not a good thing.

666

:

And then it thinks that's the new norm.

667

:

So yeah.

668

:

Exactly.

669

:

Make those small little micro steps.

670

:

What would be your very first step

you would encourage people to take?

671

:

Two things, movement and breath.

672

:

Because breath always keeps

you in the present moment.

673

:

So when you're getting into

those past experience, future

674

:

worries, start breathing.

675

:

You don't have to do breathwork.

676

:

The more trauma someone's had, the

less aligned they are to breathwork.

677

:

It takes time to connect to

breathwork because you have

678

:

to calm the nervous system.

679

:

While breathwork can calm the

nervous system, in those more high

680

:

traumatic energy bodies, breathwork

is a little too challenging.
