Shownotes

In this DEBUT episode of "Mutual Success," we explore the journey of Ben Holmes, a scientist and entrepreneur dedicated to revolutionizing the treatment of cartilage damage. Brace yourself (especially your knees), because he goes deep into the technology and medical aspects of the knee joint as well as the ethics of entrepreneurship.

Ben's passion for research and his desire to make a tangible impact in the medical field led him to found Nanochon, a company focused on developing innovative solutions for cartilage damage. Their groundbreaking material, Nanochon, mimics the structure of collagen found in cartilage and promotes tissue regeneration when implanted. This off-the-shelf, 3D-printed implant offers faster recovery times, reduces the need for extensive rehabilitation, and provides a cost-effective solution for patients. Join us as we delve into Ben's inspiring story and the potential impact of his groundbreaking technology.

Ben came to the role after realizing his skill set and motivations moved him out of academia and into entrepreneurship.

He explains how the rewards and challenges of entrepreneurship transcend financial remuneration.

Knee cartilage, the healing of which is the first challenge of Nanochon's product, is an amazing material that has defied medical intervention until now. Current standard-of-care treatments are almost medieval, complex and prohibitively expensive. Today's amazing new technological advances triggered and facilitated Ben and his team of inventors' truly revolutionary, simple, cost-effective solution.

There seems to have been some tendency to cure arthritis in horses! Meanwhile, preliminary animal testing indicates no rejection issues. The synthetic nature of the procedure also obviates known issues with organ and tissue trafficking.

No guarantees from the management or host, but the addressable market for the cartilage repair platform seems to be about 10 billion USD. No current treatment comes close to Nanochon's effectiveness, cost and simplicity of procedure.

There is a current fund-raising round to finance the undertaking of human trials. Available to qualified investors now with a late 2023 closing.

Fascinating note: Ben's leadership prowess started at an early age with his Eagle Scout project where he supervised a team throughout 600 Man-Hours to serve his community!
