Speaker:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: Hello and

welcome to another episode of the Growing

2

:

a Deeply Rooted +Business==+++++ podcast.

3

:

My name is Jess.

4

:

Your operational sustainable

business growth advocate with

5

:

Rachel, our marketing mastermind.

6

:

And today is a special day because

we're celebrating our anniversary.

7

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: know it

feels, it feels longer than a year

8

:

because of how many episodes we've

done, but it's wild to think that

9

:

we've cranked out so many incredible,

content pieces, like episodes that I'm

10

:

just so proud of in like only a year.

11

:

Like it's wild to me.

12

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: Yeah.

13

:

So we're actually recording this on.

14

:

August 16th and our anniversary, our first

episode published was August 17th, but you

15

:

guys probably won't be listening to this

until sometime in September because we

16

:

are that ahead and plan full, but we did

want to take a minute just to celebrate

17

:

the one year anniversary of our podcast.

18

:

We did outline some start, stop,

and continues for this episode,

19

:

but now I'm taking this off script.

20

:

And I just want to think like

lessons learned that we didn't

21

:

think of going into the podcast.

22

:

Or like things that we just

knew would be confirmed.

23

:

I think one of the great things

that Rachel and I did is we never

24

:

put pressure on ourselves about

like how big our audience is.

25

:

or how many people are actually listening?

26

:

We are just doing this purely

as an experimentation and to

27

:

get our thoughts out there.

28

:

And I think that's why we were

able to make it a year I do think

29

:

it's a big accomplishment actually

making a year because there's like

30

:

a lot of dead podcast out there.

31

:

If you scroll through the apps, even when

we're like researching names, we're like,

32

:

Well, this name we like is taken, but

they haven't published in like four years.

33

:

They only published three episodes.

34

:

So I do think it's a huge accomplishment

for us to have posted one year.

35

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: And

I mean, that speaks to like the

36

:

accountability that like both you

and I like hold each other to.

37

:

But also I think that when you

set these kind of like, what

38

:

would the types of goals be?

39

:

Like our goals that we've set are more in

the sense of like emotional goals, right?

40

:

Like we're trying to reach these

certain breakthroughs and milestones

41

:

and none of them are super vanity goals.

42

:

sure the vanity goals one day they'll

come like I have no doubt because

43

:

our podcast is But I really think

that we've really kind of come

44

:

into this with the right mindset.

45

:

And I think that that is what's pushed us.

46

:

But it's also just been so refreshing

to have a place to like share these

47

:

ideas that are one, not just email

marketing specific, which is what

48

:

my entire business platforms are

about is just email marketing.

49

:

this allows a lot more of that, like.

50

:

ecosystem that I always like to

talk about, which is fun for me.

51

:

And I think that that's the most important

thing is that I'm actually having fun with

52

:

this.

53

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: why we've

both been able to stick with it.

54

:

It's like something that I look

forward to at the end of the week.

55

:

Even if my week has been crazy busy,

like it has this week, I still enjoy

56

:

getting on here and talking about it.

57

:

And I think the things that we

didn't like, we really quickly

58

:

outsourced or systemized so that we

wouldn't have to kind of do that.

59

:

So I think that's a lesson that.

60

:

I'll probably need to carry forward

to other places in my business.

61

:

Another thing that I was thinking about

is also the snowball effect is so real

62

:

because I think maybe like three months

ago or three or four months ago was

63

:

the turning point where we went from

having just like A little sprinkling of

64

:

listeners to now, we have a consistent

amount like it keeps like doubling and

65

:

tripling and that exponential growth

that you see, like you always hear like

66

:

getting your first thousand people your

email list is the hardest or getting your

67

:

first thousand listeners is the hardest.

68

:

It really is true because now I

can see that like each week we're

69

:

growing not just by a little bit,

but it's growing like exponentially.

70

:

I think we're like up 150 percent

over the past 30 days, which is crazy.

71

:

And it's really exciting

to see that growth.

72

:

But also there were six months

where We were just doing it just

73

:

to talk to each other where nobody,

you know, nobody was listening.

74

:

I mean, people were

listening, but not a lot.

75

:

I'm sure.

76

:

Thank you to whoever has

been here from day one.

77

:

I know you're here still listening.

78

:

Thank you.

79

:

Reach out.

80

:

Say hi.

81

:

it's just so crazy to see

like how much that grows.

82

:

And I'm trying to grow my

YouTube channel as well.

83

:

And I can just see where kind of like

that momentum has finally kicked in.

84

:

And it was the same kind of goal that I

set with the YouTube channel that I set

85

:

with, we set with this goal was like,

I'm just going to, Published videos.

86

:

My goal is not to reach a

certain amount of people.

87

:

It's just to like do it get comfortable

get better at it and Eventually

88

:

as long as I'm putting out quality

content, then the people will come

89

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: we talked

about this in our episodes a lot like

90

:

the initial part of us like just getting

started was like learning those marketing

91

:

habits like we were literally just going

through and saying, okay, what feels good?

92

:

What doesn't feel good?

93

:

Like, how do we?

94

:

transition this into like more feel less

like, uh, like this feels a little forced

95

:

and like, it's every part of business,

requires that stage of just kind of

96

:

assessing what are we can continue?

97

:

What are we stopping?

98

:

Like, that's why that, that

start, stop, continue is such a

99

:

great practice in all areas of.

100

:

business and in life.

101

:

But yeah, I mean, I'm so, so proud of

just the one year accomplishment and

102

:

the growth and like all of those things.

103

:

And in the beginning, like, You know,

there was no pressure because nobody was

104

:

listening and we spent so much time kind

of like putting together these episodes

105

:

and we learned all these lessons and now

we have this like actual process of like

106

:

coming together and like the confidence

of balancing both what you have to say and

107

:

what I have to say and like all of that.

108

:

I'm just obsessed.

109

:

And yes, it is just fun to talk

to Jess like, twice a week.

110

:

And now that we're working on more clients

together, it's more and more and more.

111

:

But like, you guys get to hear some like.

112

:

Actual just conversations between

Jess and I, where we're talking about

113

:

things that we both like really love.

114

:

So thank you for being a part

115

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: I'm glad you

enjoy talking to me because sometimes

116

:

like Rachel's probably getting aggravated

because I start before our podcast.

117

:

I'm like Let me show you

what I found this week.

118

:

I always have to show her some new tool

or new trick that I learned how to do.

119

:

And I'm like, do you have time?

120

:

And she's like, yes,

121

:

show it to

122

:

me.

123

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: Okay.

124

:

Let's get into some of the

start stops and the continues.

125

:

So, start I'll go first.

126

:

So coming from the email

marketer, I need to figure out a

127

:

system and a process to really.

128

:

Consistently plant the podcast

into my newsletter strategy.

129

:

It has not ever been a priority for me.

130

:

And then in the last like quarter or

two since, trying to prep for maternity

131

:

leave and everything, like I will

make a very dramatic announcement.

132

:

I have fallen off my newsletters

as the newsletter person.

133

:

So really making sure that

I have a podcast strategy.

134

:

newsletter strategy that like makes

it easier for people to, or for me to

135

:

share this to my list is definitely

a start kind of mode for me.

136

:

Like it's a necessity.

137

:

I'm doing it.

138

:

And I'm like, we're doing it as

soon as the next season starts.

139

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: The next

start we have is we want to start, and

140

:

I guess all of these kind of go together

because we want to start being able to

141

:

monetize our podcast because our time and

effort and energy go into this podcast.

142

:

We also outsource a pretty big chunk

to it, to our wonderful podcast editor.

143

:

So we want to make sure that we

are seeing some ROI on all of

144

:

our time, effort, and energy.

145

:

one of the things, this has nothing

to do with money, but we do want to

146

:

start including, kind of like a free

resource page per episode topic.

147

:

So I'm going to build out this beautiful

little notion, like live page where

148

:

we'll not only share the episode in

the show notes, but also any resources

149

:

that we either share or ones that

I love to create a new resource.

150

:

You can ask Rachel, how many free

resources I have stacked up in my Notion.

151

:

So including a free resource with each

episode that's related to whatever

152

:

topic that we're interested in.

153

:

So we just need to set up kind of

like this system to get your email

154

:

addresses so we can get you that link.

155

:

But that's something that

we're definitely going to do.

156

:

And then another thing that we're going to

start doing, which we kind of have led up

157

:

to with us with our launch series that we

did earlier this season, is that we were

158

:

going to start doing some collaborative

starting with just launching, and then

159

:

maybe it might go into other things,

because we both have a lot of experience

160

:

with launching group courses and programs,

that's where we're getting started and

161

:

we kind of have our 1st, It's not a beta

tester because it's going to be a big

162

:

launch, but our first actual like collab

launch client, we've worked on a couple

163

:

of like smaller projects together, but

our first like full launch client is going

164

:

to be launching pretty soon in September.

165

:

And then once we get her results solidify

the offer, all of that, we'll start

166

:

booking those out for the new year.

167

:

Yeah,

168

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: it's

169

:

going to be a hundred K launch.

170

:

Like I already know this.

171

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: so

172

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: It's so, so,

173

:

good.

174

:

Not to toot our own horns, but

175

:

like, everything we have built

in this is pretty phenomenal.

176

:

But

177

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: yeah.

178

:

it's pretty good.

179

:

So stop.

180

:

We did not have, well, we

didn't write it down any stops.

181

:

One of the things that I'm actively

working on, and I'm sure our podcast

182

:

editor does a great job of making me

sound good, but just overall, I've

183

:

had on my bucket list this year,

speaking in a more concise, clear

184

:

manner and dropping all the likes.

185

:

There actually is a speaking

course that I've kind of been.

186

:

You know, like you see a course

you want to take, but you

187

:

just, it's not the right time.

188

:

There is a course that I want to take,

but I just want to refine my speaking,

189

:

be able to get my thoughts in a more, out

in a more concise and not roundabout way.

190

:

I just think that's more professional.

191

:

I

192

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: makes fun

of me because when I tell a story, I'm

193

:

like, everybody needs all of that context.

194

:

So it includes actually

like 10 layers of stories.

195

:

I think I say the same thing when

it comes to like email marketing

196

:

because I'm like, but we can't

forget about this and we can't forget

197

:

about this and then this and this.

198

:

you know, if you're not a

neurodivergent person, maybe your

199

:

brain doesn't track stories like that.

200

:

Mine does.

201

:

I hear you on totally.

202

:

making it more concise.

203

:

will take that as a lesson too.

204

:

Cause I do need to do that.

205

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: think my

thoughts come out as like one big long,

206

:

I know they do actually, they come

out in one big long run on sentence

207

:

because I'm out of breath by the time

that it's time for Rachel to talk.

208

:

So I did like Toastmasters, have

you ever heard of Toastmasters?

209

:

I did Toastmasters for a little

bit, which was where you learn

210

:

how to do public speaking.

211

:

I dropped out because it was

actually one of my biggest fears.

212

:

But there's a course called Ultra

Speaking that I've been eyeing

213

:

for about the last six months.

214

:

And just as soon as I have the time,

effort and energy to put towards

215

:

that, that's just a personal goal of

mine is to get better at speaking.

216

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: That's so

217

:

funny.

218

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: here we go.

219

:

Continuing.

220

:

Okay.

221

:

These things have worked with

us in the past, and it's, it's

222

:

probably the same old thing that

we always say, which is planning.

223

:

we do an awesome job of

planning and getting ahead.

224

:

And I think that is the major

contributor of why this is so fun

225

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: the effort

we put in on the front end saves us from

226

:

when it is time to record and when it's

time to kind of like get into the mode of

227

:

like, you know, processing it, we're not

scrambling, whether it's been a busy week

228

:

or we're just like brain tired that day.

229

:

Like we've really put in the effort to

make sure that like, When we're planning

230

:

it, it feels like a cohesive experience.

231

:

Like this launch series we just did

what we're tapping into from like an

232

:

annual perspective, like the trends

that are happening in the industry.

233

:

Like all of that effort is to

make sure that the content is.

234

:

relevant, it's targeted and that it's

intentional for the listener because

235

:

we're all like coexisting in the same

online space or small business space.

236

:

And like, trends are real

and things like that.

237

:

Like there are things that

are, everybody is experiencing.

238

:

So

239

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: And I

think giving ourselves a good runway,

240

:

being mindful about our calendars and

knowing what we need to record when

241

:

to stay ahead systemizing what we can.

242

:

I also started adding in some automation

so that things are automatically getting

243

:

shared on Pinterest now and they're

getting shared on LinkedIn and they're

244

:

getting shared on, I don't know where

else, but they're probably getting

245

:

shared on anything that I can automate.

246

:

It's getting shared on.

247

:

I do want to kind of just refine

that, but that is a continued thing.

248

:

That I want to keep doing we're

going to continue keeping our podcast

249

:

manager because I think it's such

a blessing just to record it and

250

:

then I upload the link and then it's

251

:

like

252

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: done.

253

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: done.

254

:

that feels so much lighter than

like, Oh no, I have to edit it.

255

:

Now I have to post it.

256

:

And like, I still do a little bit of

posting here and there, but like as soon

257

:

as you can afford a podcast manager, let

us know because we've got a great one.

258

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: Totally.

259

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: Okay,

so Our themes are really great.

260

:

So if you didn't know, we do

spring, summer, fall, winter.

261

:

Do we do winter?

262

:

Do we start with winter?

263

:

So have we done all of them now?

264

:

Or we haven't done fall,

265

:

right?

266

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: no, we started

with winter fall is going to be good.

267

:

Cause fall really is a different energy.

268

:

Like people kind of are in this

very busy mode and fall, like.

269

:

I'm excited for it.

270

:

I'm excited because I do think there's

a lot of reminders of balance and

271

:

intentionality and living within like

sustainable focused like tactics.

272

:

And then you have like

the chaos of Black Friday.

273

:

You have the chaos of

a lot of those things.

274

:

And then winter is like recharge,

rest, regroup kind of thing.

275

:

So I'm excited.

276

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: Maybe that's

what I'm feeling, cause I got on the

277

:

phone today and I was like, I feel like

we went from like zero to a hundred

278

:

this week, and I think it's that fall

energy coming in where everybody's

279

:

like ready to get ripped and roaring.

280

:

That's really, ripped and roaring.

281

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742:

We are bodybuilders

282

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: We're

rippin and rollin and ready to

283

:

just aim the New Year's Strong.

284

:

Anyway, I'm going a little crazy because

we had quite a busy week over here.

285

:

So, as always, if you liked this

episode, make sure you like, subscribe

286

:

on your favorite podcast player.

287

:

If you found any of these tips

helpful, share them with the vids.

288

:

Bestie, follow, leave us a review,

all the things, you know what to do.

289

:

Next episode, we're going to, well,

our plan from here going forward we're

290

:

going to have a couple of guest episodes

to kind of bridge the gap from Rachel

291

:

being out, to when she comes back.

292

:

I might record a solo episode.

293

:

So there may not be a

break, but they're also.

294

:

Maybe a break we just need to see how

295

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: Yeah,

296

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742:

everything shakes out

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: and we might

just kind of like highlight some important

298

:

episodes that maybe just need to be

replaced into your feed because, you know,

299

like we're closing summer, summer, this

year did not feel like summer typically.

300

:

Summer typically is like

slower, relaxing, like.

301

:

energizing.

302

:

Q1 was so slow, summer took

303

:

prioritize some of those episodes that

305

:

maybe would embrace a little bit more

balance into your life or kind of give

306

:

you some more sales tactics if you

need a bigger push in the Q3 season.

307

:

jess_1_08-16-2024_131742: So until next

week, because we will be here next week,

308

:

it'll be a guest episode or a solo episode

309

:

We're rooting

310

:

for you.

311

:

rachel_1_08-16-2024_131742: for you.
