Hey, I'm Samantha Murrell and this is you've had a baby, not a lobotomy. [...1.3s] You might recognise my voice from my earlier podcasting days when this podcast was actually called the Mothers Hood Podcast, but I've been working away behind the scenes and she's had a bit of a glow up for Season 2 and beyond.
I'm a Back to work coach and a matrescence guide for women returning to the workplace after having a baby. And this podcast exists to provide a space to share what I talk about with the women I work with and interact with on a daily basis because these conversations are not happening enough in mainstream media and they need to be heard.
There's a lot to unpack, and trust me, you'll never see me run out of things to say about this! But here's a taster of what to expect from this brand new series, which I hope will become a special space for us to explore, share, and celebrate all things motherhood identity, ambition, and beyond.
2.6s I'm here to disrupt the narratives on motherhood, work career, and ambition. I support mothers in leadership who have big careers and they're like, what the fuck's happened to me? I've been the good girl, been to university, got the grades, done what they're supposed to have done, and then followed the path. And then motherhood kind of explodes, this realisation on what has been working till now. And they're trying to juggle motherhood and work and career. And I'm here to show them a way to integrate that and follow the path that's right for them, not what everybody else is telling them to do. It's very much about thriving, not surviving.
We have this messaging of, you know, oh, you just got a muddle through why can't we enjoy our lives? Why can't we thrive as well as our children?
I felt so weak and vulnerable when I had my daughter. It was actually quite scary how I felt like that. And, and I think maybe I had this perception of feeling really in control before, really I wasn't. We can really get lost in that transition of matrescence when we aren't supported properly because of the lack of understanding about motherhood that oh, it's just you pop out a baby and crack on and you just bolt it onto your life.
But when we supported properly, it's really incredible. You know, this transition of becoming a mother is needing to come back to that original core of yourself. It can be actually quite a painful transition into motherhood, but actually coming through the other side, it's just such a beautiful thing.
