I'm thrilled to dive into something super special today. Imagine gathering the top experts in education, putting them in a room, and giving them just two minutes to share their absolute best tip with every teacher out there. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, guess what? That's exactly what we've done for you today!

We're back with the number one teaching tips from the experts in 2024. I am beyond excited to kick this off again. Last year, this series was a hit – seriously, our top downloaded episodes of 2023! And it's no wonder why. In this episode, you get a treasure trove of inspiration and wisdom from so many incredible educators. It's like getting a year's worth of professional development in just a few minutes.

Transcripts

Speaker:

If you took some of the top experts in education, put them in a room,

Speaker:

and said that you have 2 minutes to share your top

Speaker:

tip with all the teachers who are out there, you would

Speaker:

probably get some really good stuff. Right? They would need to pick, like, just 1

Speaker:

little thing. What little nugget is really going to move the needle forward for you

Speaker:

in whatever area of education they are an expert in.

Speaker:

And that is what we've really done for you today. So let's dive into

Speaker:

the number 1 teaching tips from the experts in 2024.

Speaker:

Welcome to educate and rejuvenate, the podcast to help you revitalize

Speaker:

your teaching, renew your spirit, and reignite your passion for

Speaker:

life. I'm your host, Kelsey Sorensen, a former teacher,

Speaker:

current homeschool mom, published author, and certified life coach. Whether

Speaker:

you are a teacher in a traditional classroom, homeschool from your kitchen

Speaker:

table, or anywhere in between, I am on a mission to help you not only

Speaker:

survive as an educator,

Speaker:

experts and discover the missing piece, rejuvenating yourself.

Speaker:

Are you ready to both educate and rejuvenate? Let's

Speaker:

go.

Speaker:

I am so excited to start this series again. We did it

Speaker:

last year and it was honestly, I think they were our top downloaded

Speaker:

episodes of 2023. Everybody loved getting these little bite sized

Speaker:

tips from so many incredible people, where you could listen to 1

Speaker:

episode and get so much inspiration from so

Speaker:

many experts. And the reason I do this is because, as you

Speaker:

might know, I host a virtual conference, each year. And now we actually

Speaker:

do it twice a year. It's called Educate and Rejuvenate the Conference. Although that's now

Speaker:

the name of our whole brand. But we always get such an incredible speaker

Speaker:

lineup. Like the talent we are able to get in this event always blows my

Speaker:

mind. And the reason I think people say yes is just because

Speaker:

of the engagement of the community. They see how engaged the people who come to

Speaker:

this event are and the people we bring together, and like attracts like, and we

Speaker:

get some really incredible people at the event. But I also want everybody here

Speaker:

on the podcast, whether or not they grab a ticket to the event, to benefit

Speaker:

from hearing from these amazing people. And I can't but I can't do, like, over

Speaker:

50 interviews. There are over 50 speakers. That would become a full time job to

Speaker:

do it and get all the episodes out there. So

Speaker:

instead, what I did is I put together a little survey called a video ask.

Speaker:

And then what we did is we took all those clips and my amazing team

Speaker:

member Megan is editing them together for you here on the podcast. So you can

Speaker:

just get tip after tip after insight after insight. And likely, some of them

Speaker:

are really going to stick out to you more than others. And you can pick

Speaker:

and be, okay, I'm really gonna focus on that 1 or I'm gonna focus on

Speaker:

that 1, but you're going to just feel so inspired by the end of this

Speaker:

episode. And honestly, let me tell you, these are their best tips. They brought

Speaker:

their a game because they only had 2 minutes. It was really what would they

Speaker:

share with you? They only have 2 minutes. Like, it's like a TED talk

Speaker:

where they get that short amount of time and they have to take out all

Speaker:

the extra and really just be like, what is 1 little quick thing you need

Speaker:

to share? And I think that's why these episodes did so well last year. So

Speaker:

I'm excited to do that again. But without further ado, it's all about them and

Speaker:

what they have to share and not me. So let's dive in to their tips.

Speaker:

Hi, everyone. I'm Amy Bodkin, and my top tip, regardless

Speaker:

of whether you're a classroom teacher or a homeschool parent, is to

Speaker:

invest in relationship. That is what makes all the

Speaker:

difference. And for my ask, I would ask that you would go to my

Speaker:

website, amy bodkin.com. And please check

Speaker:

out my book, Special Needs Kids Are People Too. There is a free chapter

Speaker:

on the website for you to read, because that is what my book is

Speaker:

all about, investing in relationships.

Speaker:

So this is actually my 2nd year presenting at educate and rejuvenate, and it's

Speaker:

just such a fantastic event. I know I had a lot of fun last year

Speaker:

with the roundtable discussions and checking out all the other presentations,

Speaker:

And it's just a great opportunity to learn about new things, for

Speaker:

you that might be learning about hyperlexia for the first time. So it's just a

Speaker:

really great event for both teachers and homeschoolers. So I hope you go check it

Speaker:

out. Hey. I'm

Speaker:

Shanti, and I help busy preschool and toddler parents and

Speaker:

teachers make learning fun while keeping it simple. And

Speaker:

that happens to be my number 1 tip to all teachers and parents.

Speaker:

Keep it simple. I'm referring to what you teach your

Speaker:

child, how you teach your child, how to manage your time, how

Speaker:

to get things done. Right? Anything that's related to you or your

Speaker:

child, when you keep things simple, it creates this inner calmness

Speaker:

and peace in knowing exactly what's expected and what's

Speaker:

coming next. We avoid things like burnout, anxiety,

Speaker:

stress, and all those other things that we don't need. So keep it

Speaker:

simple. I hope that helps. If you wanna connect with me, you can always

Speaker:

find me on the Preschool Made Easy podcast, and that's

Speaker:

in Apple Podcasts and Spotify and all the other ways that you can

Speaker:

listen to podcasts. Thanks.

Speaker:

Hi there. My name is Charlotte Jones, and I'm a podcaster, a speaker, and a

Speaker:

coach. And you can find me at Mydwell Homeschool and the Striker Balance

Speaker:

podcast for working homeschool moms. Today, I have a tip for homeschool moms

Speaker:

and working homeschool moms. But first of all, tell me if you can relate. Is

Speaker:

every single day full to the brim with tons of activities? Do you

Speaker:

feel like things are piling on, that things fall through the cracks, that you're

Speaker:

saying yes to things that you don't want to do, that there's no

Speaker:

time for self care, that you end your day feeling exhausted

Speaker:

and depleted. If you can relate to any of these, then I have a simple

Speaker:

and powerful tool that's gonna start to help you overcome this. And that is to

Speaker:

do a time audit. When you do a time audit, you note how you spend

Speaker:

your time for 3 to 5 days, and it just gives you so much

Speaker:

information. And it helps you to start being more

Speaker:

intentional about how you spend your precious, precious time. So

Speaker:

I'll just use myself as an example so you can see what it looks like

Speaker:

in practice. I saw that I was spending 2 hours, 7

Speaker:

to 9, mindlessly scrolling at the end of the day on Instagram

Speaker:

or whatever it was, and I couldn't fall asleep. I

Speaker:

couldn't switch off, and I didn't sleep well. And so from that

Speaker:

information, I decided to switch off my phone at 7. So now I read, and

Speaker:

I feel much calmer. I fall asleep much easier, and I feel

Speaker:

rested when I wake up in the morning. So I'd love to offer you a

Speaker:

time order that you can use to track your time, and then you it'll also

Speaker:

help you to start categorizing your activities, and you can start

Speaker:

doing more of what you want to do and less of what you don't.

Speaker:

Hello. Hello. This is Dana from

Speaker:

Teacher Text Studio, and my top

Speaker:

teaching tip is to make sure that you

Speaker:

are putting a emphasis on

Speaker:

building math fact fluency from the very, very

Speaker:

beginning. It is so super important, and I say all the time

Speaker:

that math is completely

Speaker:

changed whenever students know their math

Speaker:

facts by memory. So if you would

Speaker:

love to hear more about math fact fluency and

Speaker:

all math things in general, upper elementary, I invite

Speaker:

you to check out my podcast, upper elementary simplified,

Speaker:

or you can check out my website, teacher tech studio

Speaker:

dot com to see everything that I have to offer.

Speaker:

Have a great day.

Speaker:

Hi, everyone. My name is Eric Kelly. I am a 7th grade English

Speaker:

teacher at Wonder Junior High School in West Memphis, Arkansas,

Speaker:

and I am very excited to be joining you for the

Speaker:

educate and rejuvenate conference. This is my first experience

Speaker:

in the conference, and it's a very unique experience for me in that I am

Speaker:

actually a public school teacher, but I'll be speaking to you in the

Speaker:

homeschool track of it. My top tip for

Speaker:

homeschoolers is this. Locate the single parents in

Speaker:

your homeschool coop and ask them what their biggest

Speaker:

challenges are related to homeschooling as a single

Speaker:

parent. My topic will be educating the children

Speaker:

of homeschoolers, and I originally wrote this presentation as a

Speaker:

public school teacher and as a former single parent. But

Speaker:

as I've researched this, I found that there are many

Speaker:

items of information in this topic that will help you as

Speaker:

homeschool parents as well. This is my call to action.

Speaker:

Follow me on Facebook at Eric Kelly. It's

Speaker:

erickelly, and follow

Speaker:

my professional page, biz of teaching, biz0f

Speaker:

teaching. And tell me your your

Speaker:

own tips. Tell me what you're seeing in the realm of single parents

Speaker:

who are homeschooling. I can't wait to get to know you better.

Speaker:

I hate writing essays. Does that sound

Speaker:

familiar? Hey there. I'm Francini Estes, a life

Speaker:

coach for teachers and moms of neurodivergent

Speaker:

children. So if you're struggling to foster intrinsic

Speaker:

motivation in your child or student, here

Speaker:

it is a proven tip to help you out. Connect

Speaker:

before correct. This approach has been

Speaker:

effective in many situations, and I'm confident

Speaker:

it can work for you too. So, for instance, if your

Speaker:

student finds a challenge challenging to begin

Speaker:

writing an essay, Begin by saying, hey. I

Speaker:

noticed that you are finding it tough to start

Speaker:

your essay. What's on your mind? Then

Speaker:

listen actively and without judgment. Try to

Speaker:

understand and support their perspective. What is

Speaker:

the root cause of it? Do they want to write,

Speaker:

but they struggle coming up with ideas or they

Speaker:

struggle with spelling or grammar. Acknowledge their

Speaker:

feelings acknowledging their feelings, listening

Speaker:

actively without judgment, identifying the root

Speaker:

cause of the problem, and working together to

Speaker:

overcome it will help foster intrinsic

Speaker:

motivation in them. So would you like to learn more about

Speaker:

instilling intrinsic motivation in your students,

Speaker:

join, educate, rejuvenate 2024. And

Speaker:

I will share all the tricks and tips I have

Speaker:

used with my students and children. This

Speaker:

event could be a game changer for you

Speaker:

and your students, providing with tools and

Speaker:

knowledge to make a huge difference in your lives.

Speaker:

Speaker:

Hi. I am Gina Prash, author of Joy, You Find What You Look

Speaker:

For, and Hope, More Than Wishful Thinking, 2 children's books

Speaker:

from Boys Town Press. I also co hosted the Only Schoolish

Speaker:

podcast about homeschooling only kids. I

Speaker:

homeschooled my only kiddo from k through 12, and here

Speaker:

is my best tip for parents, particularly homeschool parents.

Speaker:

Watch your face. Now I got this piece of

Speaker:

advice from a long time homeschool mom who said that your face

Speaker:

does not lie. So if you're sitting there at the table

Speaker:

working on math, the unibrow and the RBF are going

Speaker:

to show your truth. So if you're saying it's all good, but your face says

Speaker:

it's all bad, your kids are going to believe your face.

Speaker:

Today, when I work with home school parents, I remind them that it is

Speaker:

about pulling up your own socks, getting your act together. If you can't

Speaker:

consciously control your face, take a moment, take a deep

Speaker:

breath, take a walk, and begin again, because

Speaker:

building that relationship with your kid is way more important than any

Speaker:

subject that you might be teaching. I invite you to pop over

Speaker:

to Substack and join my mailing list there, genaproshrights.com.

Speaker:

That is www.genaprosh,

Speaker:

p as in peanut, R0SCH, writes.com,

Speaker:

and you can follow me on all the socials. Just look for the

Speaker:

handle Gina prosch rights. Thanks a bunch. Watch your

Speaker:

face.

Speaker:

Hi. I'm Maria Golden from Growing in Literacy where I

Speaker:

educate and empower parents of young preschool children

Speaker:

in supporting their child's reading development through play based learning.

Speaker:

And my tip for you today is to answer

Speaker:

the thousands of questions that you may get from your little 1 each

Speaker:

day. And I say to answer them

Speaker:

because when you answer those questions, there's a few

Speaker:

things that you are doing. You are promoting their

Speaker:

vocabulary growth, You are promoting their,

Speaker:

the information that they have by answering these questions. You

Speaker:

are promoting their curiosity as a learner

Speaker:

and as a person, and you're also building a relationship

Speaker:

with your child when you're having these conversations and

Speaker:

and taking time out of your busy day to

Speaker:

answer their questions. Now, I know this is not always possible.

Speaker:

I have 3 little ones at home, and sometimes the questions are so overwhelming

Speaker:

that I just can't. I just can't answer them. But whenever possible,

Speaker:

please do have conversations with your child, encourage them

Speaker:

to ask questions, and then respond in the best way that you

Speaker:

can as answers to those questions. Now if you want to know more

Speaker:

about me and what I do, you could find me on Facebook or on

Speaker:

Instagram at growing in literacy, and from there you can

Speaker:

sign up to receive my free preschool

Speaker:

reading activity guide which has 7 days

Speaker:

of really fun reading,

Speaker:

activities that you can use with your child so 7 days of

Speaker:

activities to help your child learn their letters

Speaker:

and letter sounds.

Speaker:

Hi. This is Amanda from Homeschool Family Legacy dotcom,

Speaker:

and I'm talking to all the homeschool mamas out there.

Speaker:

I wanted to share my biggest tip because it has been a lifesaver

Speaker:

for me as a mom of 4 boys working from

Speaker:

home on my own business, and my top

Speaker:

tip top top tip is to do a brain dump.

Speaker:

If you've never done a brain dump before, you're

Speaker:

like, oh, I've tried that. Brain dumps don't really work for me.

Speaker:

Well, I have an entire process that I'm gonna be teaching at Educate and

Speaker:

Rejuvenate to help you create your homeschool routine that, guess

Speaker:

what, starts with a brain dump. So a brain dump,

Speaker:

basically, I like to describe it as you're you're

Speaker:

taking your purse and you're emptying all the contents of your purse

Speaker:

onto the table. But instead of it being your purse, it's your brain, and

Speaker:

you're emptying all the contents of your brain onto a piece of paper.

Speaker:

Because as homeschool moms, we carry so, so much

Speaker:

in our minds, and what ends up happening is when we're carrying too much

Speaker:

up here, we're less available emotionally for our

Speaker:

family. And we can get snippy or we can give up easily

Speaker:

when we simply got out what was in our brain onto a

Speaker:

clean, crisp, untainted piece of paper

Speaker:

that is away from our emotions, we could

Speaker:

show up as the moms we really want to. So that's my top

Speaker:

tip. If you're feeling a little, like, messy up here,

Speaker:

do a brain dump right away. And if you want to

Speaker:

have a little bit more help with, clearing the mental

Speaker:

clutter and planning your homeschool year, I want you to join

Speaker:

me at my live event, Plan Your Homeschool Year Like

Speaker:

a Boss, and you can sign up for free at homeschoolfamilylegacy.com/

Speaker:

plan like a boss 24.

Speaker:

Hey, mama friend. Katie Hedrick here. I'm the host of the Joy at

Speaker:

Home podcast. I'm also a Midwest homeschool

Speaker:

mom of 3. And so for the summit coming up,

Speaker:

for the educate and rejuvenate summit that's coming up, I'm actually gonna be talking about

Speaker:

our family's journey of transitioning from public

Speaker:

school to homeschool and sharing that

Speaker:

that change, that journey doesn't actually have to be

Speaker:

scary. So join me for my talk. I'll be sharing all about how I stayed

Speaker:

stuck in fear for a really long time, even though God was knocking on the

Speaker:

door of my heart to make the jump and to take the leap of faith.

Speaker:

I continue to stay stuck in fear. Where do I start? What

Speaker:

curriculum do I use? And all the things. And then we finally made the jump,

Speaker:

and it has been so, so good. So join me for my talk.

Speaker:

We'll talk about that journey. We'll talk about the 3 simple steps that

Speaker:

your family can utilize to move from public school into homeschool. And,

Speaker:

also, if you wanna head over to teach me to

Speaker:

homeschool.com, you can download my free curriculum

Speaker:

guide over there. And inside of that free guide download, I

Speaker:

have included my top 10 picks for homeschool curriculum

Speaker:

so we can bust right through 1 of your fears right off the

Speaker:

bat, get you started on some great picks for curriculum

Speaker:

for your family. I'll meet you over there.

Speaker:

Hello. My name is Kelsey Thomas, and I will be

Speaker:

presenting on self care. And

Speaker:

my number 1 tip is to schedule at

Speaker:

least 3 hours each week into your week

Speaker:

to take care of yourself, whether that be working out,

Speaker:

taking a nap, enjoying some fresh air outside,

Speaker:

meal prepping, whatever it may look like, schedule at least 3,

Speaker:

hours.

Speaker:

Hi. I'm Linda Cardamis from Teach For the Heart, and my top tip for

Speaker:

teachers is to create a classroom management

Speaker:

plan. So many times, 1 of the reasons why we have so

Speaker:

many trouble with classroom issues, there's a lot of reasons. But when we're not consistent

Speaker:

in our discipline, the line really isn't clear for students, and so that

Speaker:

makes it really, really hard to hold the line. Right? So having a classroom

Speaker:

management plan is so valuable if you know exactly what you're going to say

Speaker:

and what you're gonna do when students misbehave, then you're able to be really

Speaker:

consistent. You're able to and that really helps to build respect

Speaker:

and get students paying attention and focusing rather than

Speaker:

causing all these disruptions. And we have a free training

Speaker:

that goes into this in a whole lot of detail and shows you how to

Speaker:

do it and why it works. So you can check that out at teach for

Speaker:

the heart.com/free. That's teach, the number 4, the

Speaker:

heart.com/free. I hope to also see you at educate and

Speaker:

rejuvenate where I'm gonna be talking about, some ways to take

Speaker:

worksheets and turn them into more engaging activities.

Speaker:

Hi there. I'm Jen from teach love autism, and my tip that I'm

Speaker:

going to share with you is if you're sick and tired of

Speaker:

printing worksheets, printing materials over and over

Speaker:

again because you wanna give your students or learners more

Speaker:

practice, the best thing you can invest in is 1 of these little

Speaker:

pocket charts. You can stick the worksheet right inside of

Speaker:

it, and then they can use a dry erase marker on the

Speaker:

worksheet to be able to complete it, erase it, and do

Speaker:

it again. And the best is you can put anything inside here

Speaker:

that you want that you want the students to write on. So if

Speaker:

you have not invested in these dry erase pockets, I highly recommend. And

Speaker:

if you would love to connect with me more, you can find me

Speaker:

on Instagram. My handle is teach love autism.

Speaker:

Bye.

Speaker:

Amy from Teaching in BlueJeans here, and let me tell you that

Speaker:

a summer teachers conference is 1 of my most favorite

Speaker:

things. There's nothing quite like getting

Speaker:

inspired and challenged by other educators,

Speaker:

learning and growing both professionally and personally, and

Speaker:

also connecting with other people that are like minded,

Speaker:

and that's exactly what you can do at educate and rejuvenate

Speaker:

2024. So don't write yourself a

Speaker:

note. Don't say you'll do it later. Instead, take

Speaker:

just a couple minutes right now and jump over and grab your

Speaker:

ticket and save your spot for educate and rejuvenate, and

Speaker:

I can't wait to see you there.

Speaker:

Hey, teachers. I'm Mary and Shannon from the Reading Teachers'

Speaker:

Lounge. So good to see you. Here's our top tip for you as the

Speaker:

school year is ending. As the school year winds down, what we do is

Speaker:

typically take this time to reflect on what worked well for us

Speaker:

and where we wanna improve for next year. So while all of this

Speaker:

information is fresh in your mind, why don't you take out a sheet of paper

Speaker:

and write a note for yourself right now so you can read open it and

Speaker:

read it during preplanning, highlight your wins and student successes,

Speaker:

and also remind yourself of your growth goals for next year.

Speaker:

Bonus, you can have the students do the same thing. If you're staying at the

Speaker:

same school, you could deliver all the notes to the students' new teachers

Speaker:

during preplanning, and the teachers could hand them out at the 1st days of

Speaker:

school. Our mission at the Reading Teachers' Lounge

Speaker:

is to arm teachers with confidence and tools that they need to develop their

Speaker:

student learning. Whether you're a new teacher seeking

Speaker:

guidance, a seasoned pro looking for fresh ideas, or a

Speaker:

curious parent, our community offers something for everyone.

Speaker:

So grab your favorite cup of coffee or tea, cozy up in the virtual lounge

Speaker:

with us, and eavesdrop on our professional conversations. You can

Speaker:

find us online at readingteacherslounge.com, on all the social

Speaker:

media channels at reading teachers lounge, and on your favorite

Speaker:

podcast app.

Speaker:

Wasn't that incredible? So many tips from so many

Speaker:

amazing educators, and I bet you really resonated with some of the people. And

Speaker:

if so, make sure to follow them. And be sure to stick around here on

Speaker:

Educate and Rejuvenate the podcast too because we always bring in people like this.

Speaker:

But if there are any specific people who you're like, I wanna follow them or

Speaker:

I wanna grab their their freebie, we link to all of them in the show

Speaker:

notes of this episode. Now that means you'll need to click through the link that's

Speaker:

educate and rejuvenate.com to take you to the page for this podcast. It's way

Speaker:

too many links to put in just the episode description that will be on like

Speaker:

Apple or Spotify or YouTube. So make sure to click through to the educate and

Speaker:

rejuvenate website to get those links for all the presenters. And

Speaker:

while you're there, I would really love if you want to join us at the

Speaker:

educate and rejuvenate event that is happening this month. If you got this far in

Speaker:

this episode and love these just little tidbits from all these people, you're going to

Speaker:

wanna hear more from them. Right? And it's really

Speaker:

all about the people. As you can see, we've got such incredible people who are

Speaker:

at this event. Not only the speakers though, but the people who are

Speaker:

attracted to and buy a ticket to this type of event. Like I mentioned in

Speaker:

the beginning, like attracts like. And if you're buying a ticket to an event that's

Speaker:

not only professional development, but really has that personal development and comedy

Speaker:

and really not only learning how to up level yourself as an educator, but rejuvenate

Speaker:

yourself too. The chat is full of those type of people, and it's always on

Speaker:

fire, and people are connecting, and even making friends. It's almost like

Speaker:

the energy of an in person event at a virtual event. I really don't

Speaker:

want you to miss it. We only do this event twice a year, and

Speaker:

winter is gonna look a little different. So the summer 1, once a year. Don't

Speaker:

want you to miss it. Really want you to be there, and it's happening soon.

Speaker:

Go to educateandrejuvenate.com/conference to learn more. The

Speaker:

event is July 16th 17th is when it's happening live. You

Speaker:

Speaker:

watch for the next month. And also we always have the replays

Speaker:

Speaker:

$97 to get the platinum pass, which gets you access

Speaker:

Speaker:

if you want to just come to the event, come live, like it's less than

Speaker:

takeout for your family. So again, make sure to come. It's going to be a

Speaker:

great time, and I hope to see you there.
