Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. ... Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites ... So He called His disciples to Himself ... “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.” Mark, Jesus. Hey, I’m Nathan, and this is Day 29 of 30 Days Watching Jesus. With Jesus, it was always about the heart. Two near-useless copper coins outweighed the piles of money tossed in the collection box by the wealthy. They had suffered nothing to dump a load of change in the temple collection. Yet, one woman, who had but two small coins, had giving all. How different Jesus sized up people. He saw the size of their hearts—instead of the size of their wealth. He was not mislead by drama or pretense. So, do we see people like he did? Recognizing the size of the heart—or can we not see past the logo on the car, the spiffy sunglasses or the spacious digs?
