Hello, and welcome to another episode of the Traveling Internet. Today, I want to talk about smash rooms. I have been traveling a little recently, and I have always wanted to do a smash room. I've seen them advertised in various cities, and I think a group of my friends went and did it at some event that they went to. And so a smash room is a venue where you can go and smash things with protective gear and eye goggles and all that fun stuff, but you get to take out some people call it the rage cage, some people call it rage therapy smash therapy, where you can go and destroy various items from plates and glasses to large electronics to box fans. The idea behind it is that you can go pick up some equipment and then just spend some time taking out your rage on inanimate objects rather than other things. So I went to do this and I had originally planned to go and I had a 10 minute session because I was going by myself I wasn't going with friends I decided that I wanted 10 minutes to go and rage out on something and I'd never been before. So I went to the venue and they they talked me through everything so they had a room that was there where you got overalls, head to toe overalls that you could put over your clothing and then they told me to choose a weapon and so they had a wall full of those items that you could use to wield to destroy things anything from baseball bats to crowbars to sledgehammers to you get the idea lots of things that are heavy and weighty and that can be used to destroy things and then they let me pick a helmet that had a visor at the front to protect my eyes and it also had ear ear protection coverings, so that you know, I'm not really sure what from the noise, I guess.

They made sure I had, my shoes with covered shoes, and they asked me they led me into the room and then asked me if I had any specific music that I wanted to play and here's a small tip and a little bit of advice before you go into a rage room. If you're just thinking you're just going to randomly rage, that's great one thing is really cool to do is make a list of names of who or what you might be raging about. It could be the DMV, it could be airlines, it could be cancer, Whatever it is, but I make a little list because it helps really, like, now and focus your mind on, like, why you're hitting things. And then they asked me if I wanted any music playing. I couldn't give my own playlist, but I could for example, they said they had Spotify, and I could pick a musician so I said Linkin Park older Linkin Park not newer Linkin Park I realize I'm saying this and they've just released a new album. So that was great, really good music, but also before you go, think about music that would help you in your age, whether it is classical music or jazz, jazz fusion, or some Miles Davis or indeed it is Linkin Park! And so you get to go in there and smash! Some people really like the sound of glass smashing and so they offer extra crates of bottles and they're saying you know that smashing sound if you're really into that that's what you might be into. Some people really like plates. You throw them, they hit against the wall, they smash on the floor and that's one and done But what I discovered was really cool was they had a box fan.

I was like, I'm not going to be able to attack this box fan, but the box fan can take a really large amount of beating and so if you're the kind of person that needs to wail on some one thing rather than hit the smash of glass and fragments and all that fun stuff, getting a large or medium electrical equipment is really good to hit on. Also laptops and that sort of thing. So 10 minutes should be a good amount of time make sure you're not trying to hurt yourself you also give you gloves you wail away and for me 10 minutes was not enough and so I came out and it was really enjoyable and cathartic you can scream you can shout people might be able to see on video they might not depending on the type of environment it is in and so I have to be scheduled in for later on that day and I got a second session which was double the session 20 minutes definitely worked up a sweat it is a really good way to exercise especially in Denver because it's mile high along with sort of your arms and your wrists be careful of a little blistering maybe but you could then specifically once you figure out what you like you can specifically ask for hey I would really like a crate with glass items or electronics or whatever is that works well for the kind of smashing that you want to do but all in all great experience, staff are wonderful, they said people go in, group people go in, couples go in therapy, therapists go in, their HR peeps if you want to let it all out that's my advice to you so rage cages, smash rooms well worth a visit and you can do it alone which is great!
